IPod video via Receiver. Help appreciated.

Okay, after reading all 20 plus pages here, I still can't figure this out.
if I connect the iPod to the TV directly, using RCA cable, I get both picture and sound, yet the sound is only coming through half the speakers.
When connected directly to the receiver, I get sound via all speakers, but no picture on the TV.
Do I need to split the cable and have the Audio going to the receiver and video directly to the TV?
Thanks in advance.

Given the issues you've had, I would connect your iPod and Restore it in iTunes and resync everything.

  • IPod Video anomaly - please help if you can

Hey, anyone else have this problem? -
I have a 30GB iPod video, brand new. During the most recent/its first software update, iTunes froze. I gave it a cautious 10 minutes to see if it would work out, but I eventually had to close iTunes in the task manager. I did a WinXP 'safe disconnect' for the iPod, which I figured was my best option. Anyway, the screen was frozen on the 'Do Not Disconnect' screen - a problem which, after trolling the boards, a lot of people have when disconnecting.
So I did a soft reset, then tried again. Gave it even more time, and it finished updating -- that status bar likes to freeze for a long time, at least on my computer.
My problem is this: since then, the iPod display freezes constantly when it's disconnected and I'm using the navigation - usually within 30 seconds of me turning it on. The backlight will stick on, the screen will get slightly skewed, and a couple small, patch-like color bars pop up around the screen. It still clicks like I'm navigating, but the screen's frozen. The only way to get it back is a soft reset, but it will often repeat the performance after it's done that.
Freezing seemed to coincide with the backlight timer, so I changed that setting to 10 seconds, and it froze after 2 seconds of inactivity anyway.
This iPod is only a month old, it's never been dropped or gotten wet or anything. And aside from that iTunes freeze, I've never pulled the plug on it. I've tried everything on Apple's Support page, but it hasn't helped.
This happens 4 out of 5 times I navigate on the iPod. Is something fried/do I need to send it in? Or is there something I haven't tried?
Thanks to anyone who reads, double to anyone who replies. Cheers

Hey, thanks for the reply. I've restored twice already and it hasn't helped... but I don't have those four options when I select 'Restore.'
However, noticing that difference prompted me to (I can't believe I didn't double-check this earlier) check my version, and I'm still running 7.0.0.70. I can't imagine how that could be causing the problem, but i'm going to install the newest version and then do another restore. I'll post the results.
    Thanks for the advice though

  • 2 kids - 2 ipod videos - 1 computer - HELP!

I am using XP Pro & have 2 kids with an ipod video each wanting to use it. How can they both use different ipods on the same computer? I'm not a tech savy Mom & can use all the help I can get!
    THANKS!
    Hilton Mom

when you plug in an ipod a screen comes up showing a picture of the ipod and gives all the memory info and version for that ipod or the summery page. if it doesnt come up by itself click on the ipod on the left under devices. when you get the ipod info screen 4 boxes come up at the bottom. one should read "manually manage music". click the box for that. now this means you will have to click and drag items to yor ipod and eject it when your done( by clicking the button by the ipod name under devices) but this will allow you to use your 2 ipods on that itunes.

  • Loading iPod videos...HELP!!!!

okay, i just got an iPod video from a friend who didnt want his anymore...it already came with a few music videos on it, so i no that part works. But i dont no how to load my own stuff on their! ive been reading some of these topics and they say to download videora...but that did nothing in my case. i tried to enable the video thingy by pressing 'iPod options' but when i click on the videos tab, im unable to click anything on their. WHAT DO I DO!?!

No it puts them in a folder; open Videora; and go to set-up; then go to where it says output videos to check to see where it is sending your convertered videos. After you find where the Videos are simply click and drag them into iTunes and you should see them load.
Also if you don't even know how to convert videos; go to Convert and click on Transcode New Video then it should open a window and you would need to look for the video you want to convert; after you found it select ok; then select start.

  • IPod video Deleted files help

Hello - The files were deleted off of my computer iTunes. Therefore, we have neither the music, nor the playlists associated with the iPod, on which we already had a bunch of music an video we would like to keep. Is there any way to be able to hook up the iPod to the now oblivious iTunes, and not lose any music and, in fact, be able to add to the iPod itself, without losing any of the music?
Perhaps, some way to repopulate the iTunes program with the playlists from the iPod?
    Thanks!

If you have any iTunes Music Store purchases the transfer of purchased content from the iPod to authorised computers was introduced with iTunes 7. A paragraph on it has been added to this article: Transfer iTunes Store purchases using iPod
The transfer of content from other sources such as songs imported from CD is designed by default to be one way from iTunes to iPod. However there are a number of third party utilities that you can use to retrieve the music files and playlists from your iPod. You'll find that they have varying degrees of functionality and some will transfer movies, videos, photos, podcasts and games as well. Have a look at the web pages and documentation, this is just a small selection of what's available, they are generally quite straightforward. You can also read reviews of some of them here: Wired News - Rescue Your Stranded Tunes
    TuneJack Windows Only
    iPod2PC Windows Only
    iGadget Windows Only
    iDump Windows Only
    iRepo Windows Only
    iPodRip Mac & Windows
    YamiPod Mac and Windows Versions
    Music Rescue Mac & Windows
    iPodCopy Mac and Windows Versions
There is also a manual method of accessing the iPod's hard drive and copying songs back to iTunes on Windows or a Mac. The procedure is a bit involved and won't recover playlists but if you're interested it's available at this link: Two-way Street: Moving Music Off the iPod
If your iPod is set to update automatically you need to take care connecting to an empty iTunes. You can use a keyboard command to prevent your iPod auto-syncing with iTunes. While connecting the iPod to the computer on Windows with iTunes 7 installed hold down the Control and Alt keys (or Shift + Ctrl keys in older versions). This will stop the iPod from auto-syncing with iTunes and the iPod will appear in the source list. Wait until you are sure the iPod has mounted, and that it will not auto sync and then you can let the keys go. This may take between 20 to 30 seconds depending on your computer: iTunes 7 Keyboard Shortcuts for Windows
Your iPod should appear in the iTunes source list from where you can change the update setting to manual and use your iPod without the risk of accidentally erasing it. Also when using most of the utilities listed above your iPod needs to be enabled for disc use, changing to manual update will do this by default. Check the "manually manage music and videos" box in Summary then press the Apply button: Managing content manually on iPod
Whichever retrieval method you choose, keep your iPod in manual mode until you have reloaded your iTunes and you are happy with your playlists etc then it will be safe to return it auto-sync. I would also advise that you get yourself an external hard drive and back your stuff up, relying on an iPod as your sole backup is not a good idea and external drives are comparatively inexpensive these days, you can get loads of storage for a reasonable outlay.

  • My ipod video!! HELP

I accidentally spilled juice over the front of my ipod
it still plays music and all
but it wont turn off manually
and it keeps saying Firewire not connected.
Does anybody know what this means or how i can fix it??

If the juice you spilled had sugar in it, you really need to disassemble your iPod and clean it to get all of it out of your iPod. You can get instructions on how to open it at http://www.ifixit.com.
After thoroughly wiping it dry (and make sure to clean all the contacts on the dock connector) reassemble it, connect it to a charger and let it charge for at least 30 minutes. While it is connected to power, Reset it. You may have to do this several times. If it comes to life, connect it to your computer and Restore it then fully charge it. If it works, you got lucky.
If you don't feel comfortable with doing it yourself, there are 3rd party sites that work on iPods. For $9 http://www.iresq.com will diagnose your iPod and give you a price for how much it will cost to fix it. http://www.ipodmods.com is a similar location, you can Google for more.
You can send it to Apple by going here: http://depot.info.apple.com/ipod/ The prices for service are here: http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=304869#faq14
If you take it to the Apple Store they will tell you it is broken and you can trade it in for 10% off the cost of a new one.

  • 30 GIG Video iPod, Video Options not available - Please help!

    Hi.
I have a 30 GIG iPod Video 5th gen, with the latest iPod updater software installer on it.
But when I look at the iPod preferences, when it's plugged in via USB, all Video options (manual vs automatic etc) are all greyed out and not available for selection.
And I can't drag any videos onto the iPod (even with the right video format!).
It's like the iPod itself doesn't recognised that it is an Video one, like it has a complex and can only deal with music and photos.
Can anyone help or offer advice?
    Anyone had a similar problem?
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks for your help guys.
Even with the iPod set to manual, I couldn't drag iPod format videos directly onto it.
Did a factory restart, and it has fixed the problem.
And just a note; the options in the video tab will always be greyed out, when the iPod is set to manually update songs.
    cheers!

  • Please HELP, "iTunes has stopped working" error after connecting iPod video

People please help me out!  I have a Razer Blade gaming laptop with Windows 8 64bit.
I have an iPhone 5, iPad 2 and an iPod video (80GB).  I had some weeks from not connecting the iPod to my computer, but this morning that I did so I can upload some new music to it, iTunes just crash, I get the "iTunes has stopped working" error message when I connect the iPod video.  I do not have this problem with either the iPhone 5 or the iPad 2, when I connect these, iTunes works fine, once I connect the iPod, then all goes down
Procedures that I already tried and that were unsuccessful to solve the problem:
    Uninstall Quicktime
    Uninstall iTunes and reinstall
    Reset the iPod (several times)
    Delete TEMP files on computer
    Restart the computer (several times)
Use a different cable and a different USB port
The iPod is working fine, if I plug it to my car stereo or if I use it with headphones it works great, no problems nor errors.  My computer also identify the iPod as a hard disk, no error messages from Windows, it is just the freakin' iTunes that freezes everytime that I plug the iPod
PLEASE HELP ME OUT, I've searched forums on this particular issue but with no luck.
    Thanks very much!

It is only when I attempt to add a song to my iPod once plugged in that I receive the error "Itunes has stopped working" and forces me to exit the program, without the song being successfully transferred.
Do you have the "Convert to 128 kbps AAC" preference enabled for syncing to the iPod, laur?
If so, it's quite plausible that you've got the iTunes 10.1.0.54 bug and we need to get you updated to 10.0.1.56 as per the following document:
[iTunes 10.1 for Windows: iTunes may stop working and need to quit while importing or syncing audio|http://support.apple.com/kb/TS3591]

  • Exporting to Ipod video help?!?

I have updated all the software (quicktime pro/ Itunes). I then went to export from Quicktime. Once this file was made (mp4) I dragged it to itunes. Then I connected my IPod and a warning message appeared....telling me that the file did not copy as Ipod could not play this file. I then reexported making sure that I did click on the ipod setting!!! No luck...
Might anyone have any suggestions...I'm new to mac (just switched) and I can't figure this easy task out!!!

I found this link via google. Maybe it will help. It's a freeware QT to Ipod video converter.

after i found a disclaimation mark icon diplays on my ipod vedio, i tried to upgrade and retore my ipod video with most updates ipod updater 1.1.1 version. it doesn't work!; it told that "cannot retore", so i use the Mac's application - Disk utility to erase the disk. the process took 30 hours to finish. i restart my ipod and mac.
but after that, ipod still cannot mount on to my desktop. my OS X 10.3.9 ask me to "format/ignore/eject" after restarted. i press "ignore" to make ipod connect to my mac. open my ipod updater to retore it again , it runs a moment and told "error while format ipod"!

Mine is really close to your set up. Difference my desktop has two drive, dvd-rom and my burn drive. My laptop only has single drive. Here is my take on things.
My desktop computer burns from iTunes perfect in version 4.7.0.42 and 5.0.1.4. When I go to 6.x I can't do anything. Go to oldapps.com if you want an older version.
I CAN BURN on my laptop with new version. It is a toshiba sat M45-S331 with a matshita dvd-ram drive.
    My PC is a dell with a teac dvd+rw dv-w58e, rev D.0n
Did find something sad and while I don't know much about computer programming here is my take. I think it has nothing to do with the drive, my drive works perfect and as evidence being able to burn in older generation iTunes.
I think in the new version, at least as far as I can tell, my bus address in my laptop for my cd drive is [0,0] but on my desktop the bus address is [1,0] for my burn drive.
I think some programmer at Apple took out ability to recognize two seperate bus addresses or to recognize address [1,0]
Opinions? I'm going to research how to change bus address on my drives and if can figure out will get back here. Or if someone else can, please replay to me by e-mail. You can send it to the following removing upper case letters:
