IPod Video Volume Shuffle

I have a 5th gen 30GB iPod video that has a tendancy to change my volume setting all on its own. I use my iPod with my car stereo and religiously keep the volume at approximately 75% because of the distortion that happens above that. Out of nowhere the volume changes to almost mute, then up a little bit, then full blast, then back down all within just a few seconds. When I set the volume back to where it was I can still see it jump around some. I have also seen a screen that gives me a message that says my battery is dead despite showing the battery icon at half capacity and when I tried it again later I had no problems. Strange to say the least, anyone have any info on this one for me?

  • IPod Video Volume Bug

    Hello everybody
I have a problem with the volume for music videos.
if I play them and move the volume up to maximum then the volume is much lower, if I do the same with audio files. funny is, when is choose maximum volume and stop the video and play it again - the volume is much better. but if I touch the wheel, the volume will go down again.
hopefully this is a firmware/software bug. maybe it helps to reset the iPod, but I dont find a description for that.
(sorry for my bad english) thanks, tonic

It does sound like you need to reset the IPOD. If you are using a Mac, you will find the software already on there. Go to:
    Applications>Utilities>Ipod Software Updater
You can also download it at:

  • Ipod video volume help!

when I convert videos the volume stops working
is it because these arnt bought from itunes store?
    help!
    xxx

No, it's probably because they are "muxed".
Quicktime or Quicktime Pro (which iTunes uses) don't convert "muxed" ( muxed means multiplexed where the audio and video are stored on the same track) video files properly. It only plays the video and not the audio.
See:iPod plays video but not audio.
You need a 3rd party converter to convert the file with both audio and video.
See this for help: Guide to converting video for iPod (Mac/Windows).

  • I have an ipod video and I want to get a shuffle too on same pc....

I have an ipod video, and i want to get an ipod shuffle, but do not know if that will cause some type of confusion with itunes. I tried hooking up my girlfriend's ipod to my laptop and I couldn't drag any songs to her ipod. Will I have this same issue with the shuffle?

    - Do you have to right boxes checked in the Tones pane of iTunes for the iPod to get them synced to the iPod:
    - Were the tones purchased with the same account as all the other media on the iPod?

  • Ipod video needs to be reset when using shuffle songs.

I like to shuffle my 4800 plus songs on my new ipod, but I have noticed that after turning it off for an extended period of time usually a couple hours or over night, it needs to be reset. I have not tried to retore it as of yet, but I plan on to see if that helps. Has anyone else experienced this?

  • Belkin Power Pack for shuffle ok w/ iPod video?

    Hi,
I was wondering if I can safely use the Belkin USB Power Pack for iPod Shuffle to power and charge my iPod Video. It is a USB AC Adapter and a cigarette lighter USB car adapter. I haven't found any info on the Belkin web site, and their email support hasn't responded yet.
    Thanks for your input.

  • 1 Shuffle, 1 Ipod Video........How can I use both?

My son has a shuffle that was started on his Dad's computer, and I have a Ipod Video that was started on a laptop. I now have a new computer. I found a way to pull the music files off the shuffle (haven't tried the video one yet..has another problem that needs to be fixed) How can I get the shuffle and ipod video to run off the new computer normally?

You just need to make sure that the new computer has all the music on it, and all the software needed...
    iPod Updater
    iTunes
Then simply connect the iPods. They should be recognized and update.
Know that you can use the iPod with video with multiple computers, but you cannot use the iPod shuffle with multiple computers. All your music for the shuffle will need to be on the new computer

  • Windows XP and ipods (Video & Shuffle)

I have windows XP. My daughter has itunes working fine with her ipod video, but when I plug in my wifes shuffle, the computer won't even say it's hooked in.........
VERY Fustrated! NEED a simple fix

Whenever I try to play my tv episode from the iTunes menu all I get is the audio track and a large blank green screen (aka: no video). The control bar to pause rewind, etc comes up but no picture.
With that one, the first thing I'd try would be the "Disable Direct3D acceleration in QuickTime" section of the following document. Quit and relaunch iTunes prior to checking to see if the settings change has had any effect:

  • 80gb Video iPod Stuck in Shuffle...

I have an issue where my iPod seems to be stuck in shuffle mode no matter what I do. I have set Shuffle to Off in the settings and whenever I go into an album or artist it still shuffles everything and if the album is less than a certain amount of songs it just goes back to album selection screen after scanning through.
Anyone else have any issues like this?
    Thanks.

Haven't tried to reset yet..as my main pc is at home and I am not...
But here is what I think is happening..if anyone knows this for a fact please let me know:
My iPod has the same settings for a playlist as in iTunes..so if in iTunes the playlist is set to shuffle...no matter what you set on the iPod it will shuffle that playlist.
Least that is what I can think of for my situation right now..as I have one playlist that is behaving properly...but others still shuffle...and just by selecting an album in Music causes shuffle too...so maybe they are related in some aspect with iTunes settings.

  • Known disk-mounting fault on iPod Video 80GB?

Is there a known disk mounting fault with the iPod Video 80GB?
I’m running iTunes Version 7.0.1.8 and have so far had two brand new 80GB iPod Video devices, purchased from a registered New Zealand reseller (TotallyMac.com).
Both iPods have successfully loaded my music library and have played perfectly, both on headphones and on my iPod hi-fi. However, when I subsequently plug the iPod into any of the USB 2 ports on my laptop, the iPod does not show up as a device in My Computer, File Explorer or in iTunes.
I’m running Windows XP, Service Pack 2.
The problem also occurs on a second PC – the iPod refuses to show as a device in My Computer, Windows File Explorer or in iTunes. However, it does show up in Device Manager, and the ‘Safely Remove Hardware’ icon shows on the Windows status bar when the iPod is connected. Even so, when the iPod is safely ejected, the iPod screen continues to show ‘Do Not Disconnect’, so the only way to safely eject the iPod is to reset it on the iPod.
I’ve tried restarting the computer, putting the iPod into disk mode and so on. Unfortunately, none of the advice on the Apple website for iPods that refuse to mount helps me – because I can’t get the iPod to appear as a device anywhere on my computer, I can’t rename the Drive Volume (to another letter instead of ‘E:’) or restore the iPod to factory settings.
I can’t help thinking that Apple has created a ‘Catch 22’ situation by removing the iPod Updater option in iTunes 7 – none of the previous versions of iPod Updater is compatible with iTunes 7, meaning it’s impossible for people who have a Disk Mount problem to restore their iPods. If you can’t get the iPod to show up in iTunes, how are you supposed to restore the device or solve disk mounting problems?
There appears to be no other way to restore the device if you’re using iTunes 7.
Why isn’t there a ‘restore’ option in the iPod’s own diagnostics menu, some combination of click-wheel buttons that will allow you to reformat/restore the drive?
My previous (40GB) Fourth-Generation iPod mounts perfectly on both this laptop and another PC, suggesting it is the new iPods that are the problem. Also, as I said, the new iPod fails to mount on the second PC, supporting this theory.
Both faulty iPods have been set to ‘manually update’ and I also ticked the ‘Enable Disk Use’ option and removed the checkmark from ‘Automatically open iTunes’.
It would be good to hear from someone else who has experienced similar difficulties, as I’m by no means a new iPod user and this has both me and the Apple service technicians I’ve spoken to completely stumped. Is it a known problem and, if so, will it be dealt with in future iTunes updates…?

Try forcing the iPod into disk mode:
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=93651
And then see if you can change the Volume Drive Letter:
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=93499
If nothing else works, you may want to give this a shot:
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=302538
Since you did say the iPod continues to show Do Not Disconnect after ejecting it, I'm thinking maybe there's something on your computer that's interfering with the iPod.
Also, when the iPod comes up in Device Manager, does it have any kind of warning on it? You may need to uninstall the iPod's drivers, and then restart the computer with the iPod attached to reinstall it. This may not be the case, though, since the iPod is still showing Do Not Disconnect while it's plugged in.
You may also want to make sure you have the iPod connected to a USB port directly on the rear of the computer, or try a different USB cable.
Also, you might want to try restarting the iPodService

  • Switched iPod Video format from PC to Mac - "Restore" fried my iPod

I bought an iPod Video 30gb in Dec. 05. I originally formatted it to work with my Dell PC Inspiron laptop. Everthing worked great and I didn't have any problems. About two months ago I bought a Macbook and transferred all of my files, including my music, from the former to the latter. I authorized my iPod on my Macbook and registered my Macbook to read all of the music I purchased on iTunes. So, I made the switch from PC to Mac without any problems and my iPod Video worked just fine without any issues. It synched my songs, etc.
Then, about 2 weeks ago I noticed that iTunes would not allow me to update the iPod software because the "Settings" screen that appears when I plugged my iPod into my Macbook said that it cannot update iPods that use the PC format. So, I read the instructions for switching the format of my iPod from PC to Mac and apparently all I had to do was select the "Restore" function in the Settings screen. I did so and it appeared that everything was OK. It erased my iPod, reformatted the software, and then downloaded all of my music.
The next day though the problems started. My iPod started to freeze up; none of the buttons worked and I had to reboot it to shut off the screen. Strangely though, it wouldn't rebott all the way because it didn't boot back up. I waited a few hours and pressed the middle and menu button to try to reboot it again and it worked, but the battery was completely drawn down. I recharged the battery, but the same thing happened again after listening to music for 10 minutes. The iPod froze up, wouldn't respond, wouldn't reboot, rebooted later with an almost dead battery, recharged it and started all over. I thought that perhaps doing the "Restore" function again would fix the problem. So, I "Restored" my iPod two more separate times. But, nothing has worked.
I took my iPod to the SoHo, NYC Apple store this morning and they had no idea what to do. To my extreme frustration, they kept on trying to tell me that there was something wrong with my battery. But, I repeatedly told them that everything was fine until I did the "Restore" function to change the format from PC to Mac. Has anyone heard of this problem? Is there anything that I can do?
    Thank you for your help.

    see doing the following helps
    For Mac computer
    1. Open the disk utility, hope your iPod appears there (left hand side), highlight it
    2. Go to Tab “Partition”, click either “Delete” or “Partition”, if fails, skip this step and go to 3
    3. Go to Tab “Erase” , choose Volume Format as “MAC OS Extended (Journaled), and click Erase, again if fails, skip it and go to 4
    4. Same as step 3, but open the “Security Options....” and choose “Zero Out Data” before click Erase. It will take 1 to 2 hours to complete.
    5. Eject your iPod and do a Reset
    6. Open the iTunes 7 and click “Restore”
seems it could be some bad sectors on the HD of your iPod, if the above does not solve, then do a Restore with a PC, and see what happen

  • ITunes and iPod will not shuffle

I just recently purchased a MacBook Pro, and I finished the long tedious transfer of my 12 gb music library. I connected my iPod, reformatted it to Mac format, and synced my library. However, I just noticed something. Whenever I play a song on iTunes OR my iPod Video (5G 30GB) and the shuffle setting is on, only one song is played before quitting to the main menu or simply stopping. I cannot continuously play an album on shuffle. It plays one song and stops. Also, on the iPod, the "Shuffle Songs" option on the main screen does not work. If I set the options to "Shuffle: none", start a playlist, and then switch settings to "Shuffle: songs" everything works as I want it to. What's the deal?
