Ipod video VS Ipod NANO

All of you nano owners listen up. THere is a competition holding up and seems like The Ipod video is winning. For it's perfect look, out standing features, and styling taste. It is competing against the very thin ipod nano, which features a complete Ipod. What is your opinion of these 2 very outstanding featured ipods?

I wouldn't call it a competition. I think which iPod you buy really depends on what you need it for. If you want to store massive amounts of pictures and music, You want the Video iPod. The video iPod has the added feature of playing videos, obviously. The problem is you can put on your hours of DVDs but you can only play them for 2.5 hours.
I personally like the nano because it is so small and compact. I am amazed that they could fit all this technology into such a small package. The only thing I am worried about is it breaking in my pocket. The video iPod is much bigger so it can store the hard drive in it.

I already have a ipod video and also bought a ipod nano for my wife. Is it posssible to use Itunes (7.3.1.3) for 2 different ipod devices?
We use a different account on our computer, using Vista.

  • Is there an exstension for ipod video to the nano

I got the nano so it could play video but a very nice person told me no theres ipod video so i was wondering if you can get an exstension to the nano to play video
    thank you

You could try and return your Nano and get a 6 generation ipod (with video capabilities) if you really want video playback. Apple only accepts returns within 14 days most others withing 30 days.

  • Do 5th Gen iPod video & 3rd Gen Nano have exactly the same dock connector?

Its just I have a 5th Gen, and have just bought the wife a 3rd Nano.
I have a speaker dock that I use for my iPod Video, can she use it with her new nano?
Also just bought a iPod clock alarm, it states it supports iPod video, but only says Nano (no gen description) so is this going to be the same connector to?
I know I will need a dock plastic adapter thing, which you get it the box of the Nano so am ok there
    cheers

ah I see, so physically they are the same, and wil lfit, but it may be a different matter if they actually work
Ive just put it on a speaker dock I have, and it works fine, wil try it on a iPod dock clock alarm I have as well soon
cheers, I just didt want to push it too hard on incase it was actually a physical different size

  • Would Ipod Video hurt the Nano sells?

I ask this because Apple released the Nano not long ago, and now, they are releasing the Ipod Video.
Lots of people seems to be jumping in into the Ipod Video and wanting to sell their Nano.
What I am wondernig is, do you think Ipod Video is a successer to the Ipod Nano? Or are they in a seperate market that attracts different people?

Yea. I guess you guys are right. Apple does know what they are doing.
I would much rather have the Nano too. I never carry all my musics with me. I just carry the ones that i like the most and 4 G is more than enough for that. And I would never watch video on that thing. LOL that is what my labtop and TV is for.
Nano is perfect for me cause itz soo small and convienent.
Ipod Video, although smaller than the previous Ipod, is still very chunky compare to the Nano.

  • Ipod video vs. ipod nano- longer life?

I have lost 2 ipods to a broken hard drive. Both times i have taken my ipod into the store the mechanic has said that the hard drive is broken and that it wasn't necesarily my fault, it was just that the hard drives arent meant to last a long time. I understand that the ipod nano uses flash memory instead of a hard drive. Would the ipod nano's flash memory last longer than the ipod video's hard drive?

Since there are no moving parts inside flash drives as opposed to hard drives, then the answer wouild generaly be: Yes. It would last longer. How long have you have the other two ipods and what models were they?

  • Exchanged my broken ipod video for a nano

I purchased a 2GB white ipod nano a month or so ago. then i saw they released a video ipod. well of course i had to have it. so i returned my nano and bought one of the first video ipods in white 30GB. well a few days later i started hearing weird noises from the hard drive. like a clunking screetching. i immediately knew the hard drive was failing. took it to the apple store to have a mac genius look at it and of course it was a bad hard drive. they obviously let me exchange it for another.....but instead of getting another video ipod i got another 4GB white nano. i just feel like the nano is more durable (at least the insides are) and will last alot longer. also it will be skip free. and after holding both in my hand the nano just fits alot better. the new video ipod is thin but it is wide and is more akward to use with one hand than the nano is. i know there are some of you that bought a nano and now want a video ipod, and i am hear to say be happy with the nano. it is a very nice music player.

another interesting thing is that my nano has been in my pocket all day and does not have a scratch on it. not even a hair. looks right out of the box. could apple have finally fixed the problem? is this the end of the nanos that scratch so easly???? my first nano scratched like it was made out of candy.

  • IPod Video - iTunes - iPod Options - Videos - All options grayed out?

So how do I get this so I can use it? Right now, I can only get videos on my iPod by dragging them onto the iPod (e.g. an iPod only playlist).
This iPod options tab implies I could sync up using a directory, like with photos.
    Am I missing something?

I mention Photos only because that works the way I'd expect - I tell it to sync with the "Pictures" directory on my hard drive, and every time I plug in the iPod, all new photos are sent over without me having to do anything. (Although it would be nice if photos handled more than one directory deep when browsing on the iPod, but since it's fast, it's good enough).
I've got a directory on my hard drive called "Videos-Portable" that I'd like to point to, and have new videos transferred each time I plug in the iPod, preferably with at least one directory deep (like Photos).
Music I can just copy over as I want it, since that's actually my least use of the iPod. But I'm willing to set music up so that I can get the videos sync'd the way I want (like the way Photos works). I just transferred a couple thousand songs over to the iPod, and given the iTunes question that popped up when I attempted to switch the synch type (and then cancelled), it sounds like it's going to delete all the music I just transferred, but I'm willing to do this once again if it means I get what I want from Videos.
    Makes sense?

Recently , I broke my right earphones and the left one lasted me for about two months .

I searched Apple's stores and only found the earphone speakers with remote or something and I don't want those . I want the original ones you get when you buy a new iPod . Any chance of finding them where I live ? [Calgary]
Or is there another brand of earphones that works as well as the Apple original earphones ?

Did you ask the store clerk if they had any for the 5th gen iPod Nanos? They could have some in the stock room & not on display yet.

  • Using iPOD video and Nano on one PC

Need help. I just got a 60 gb iPOD video and have been using iTunes on my PC for my Nano. If I download videos from the iTunes Music Store for my iPOD Video, will it cause a problem when I later plug in my Nano to update? I.E., is there a way for me to use my same iTunes library for both the iPOD Video and iPOD Nano without the Nano crashing because of the video content? Sorry, I'm new to this. I appreciate anyone's help. Thanks.

If you are adding a second iPod for your own use, just connect the new iPod to your computer and follow the on screen instructions. It will update from your existing library and in the case of the Nano you will not have a problem with videos as it is not designed to use them. Depending on the size of your library and the type of iPod you choose you can have it update the whole library, selected playlists or you can manage it manually. With the first option it will update everything. With the second option only the tracks in the selected playlists (rather than the entire music library) are downloaded to iPod when you connect. With the manual update option, you manage what goes into your iPod by dragging and dropping selected songs or playlists into iPod:
    Loading songs onto iPod automatically
    Managing content manually on iPod

  • Problem with iPod video playback

I have a problem with some of my movies' playbacks on my Nano 5g. Though working perfectly fine on both my computer, and my iPod video, on my Nano some videos are slightly cut off on the right of the screen, I'm missing about 10% of the video due to the cut off. Though technically I should still be able to watch the movies fine, it niggles me and inhibits my full enjoyment of the videos. Is there any way I can crop or rescale the movie so it will fit properly on my screen? Thanks
(I have already tried both wide screen and scale to screen size on the iPod)

Go to the video settings (iPod nano) and turn off fit to screen.

  • IPod notes feature (ipod as a tour guide)

    Dear iPod fans
We were using iPods as tour guides as described in "ipod notes feature guide" (www.apple.com/ipod/ipodtours)
there was a nice feature enabling to link to media files like music and video using instructions like
    link to a song
on the new generation iPod this is not working (at least on the new nano). You basically can't click on the link because the instrucion seems not to be recognized by the new hardware
The iPod does not give any "error" (using the <ERRORS>tag in a note).
Copying the notes folder working on a past generation iPod video on the nano 3G results in "non interactive" menus thus making the tour guide iPod useless
has anyone tryed a way to fix this problem? Is any solution available?
    Thanks

The only way to view video files on the iPod is to
sync them to the iPod using iTunes.
    There's no way around that.
Thanks for the reply. In the guide they show how to point to songs do you know if there is a similar command to point to the movies I add? If that is possible then I would not have a problem.

  • I can't sync a music video to my Nano

I just got my first 2GB Nano for christmas. I purchased and downloaded a George Strait music video but it won't sync to my ipod. The ipod came with a music video playlist on it by the video just won't sync. What do I do?

Unfortunately, the iPod nano does not have the ability to play videos due to the fact that it is not an iPod VIDEO. A nano does however, have the ability to store and show photos. Sorry for the disappointing news. Maybe if you really want you can save up for an iPod video although I don't recommend it because nano's are just as good as a video.
    Cheers,
    Kelsey

  • Ipod nano 4gb and ipod video 80g with windows vista

hello! i've been trying (rather unsuccessfully) to sync the ipod nano to my laptop which has windows vista OS. i have the latest itunes 7.2 (just updated today from 7.1) and i always get the "found new hardware" pop-up everytime i plug the ipod nano via usb port. i also did the 5r's, but still the computer cannot and will not detect any software. i even downloaded the softwareupdater28-06-2006.exe but it will not run because it's superseded by itunes 7. my friend has an ipod video 80gb and i tried connecting it too, same thing popped up. both ipods do not show in "my computer" so i cannot even backup my songs! ah well. i just need to get the driver for the ipod i suppose. please help, any suggestions will be greatly appreciated.

i have been having the same problem. My laptop was upgrade to windows vista and worked perfectly fine with my ipod and with others which had previously been used with the computer when it was running XP. My IPOD unfortunately crashed and need to be replaced. I brought it back to the laptop and connected it. it was not recognised but the others still are!
I have been looking on the internet and you are the only other i can find who is suffering this problem. i have looked in device manager and the new ipod is recognised as a 'other device', whereas the ipod that still works is classed as a 'portable device'. i have looked at the drivers and tried to install them by copying the drivers on the original ipod, but have not succeded. Since updating itunes to 7.2 i have been getting a 'do not disconnect' message on the ipod but it still does not appear in the sources list in itunes.
I have tried everything and am about to give up please HELP!
Someone somewhere must know a way around this........ as the London apple store "has never heard of this problem"
