Ipod Volume Control
I have set the Max volume on my IPOD. The problem is I can no longer lower the volume when a song is actually playing like I used to be able to??? Don't know why this would be happening now?? If I go to turn the wheel and lower the volume when a song is playing the volume bar doesn't show up???
Apparently, all but the Apple Universal dock uses the "line out" from the iPod to the audio out on the dock. This is a constant level output (like the one from you CD player, e.g.) and is not affected by the iPod volume control. The Universal Dock, it would seem, pipes the headphone output to the dock's audio out socket so the volume control does work. This was most likely done to allow for the use of the Apple remote control. Also, this makes the socket on the universal dock the same as the headphone jack on the iPod and allows you to also use the dock's audio socket for video exactly as it functions with the 5G iPod headphone jack.
Anyway, your dock appears to be functioning as it should.

Has anyone noticed the the line out volume (playing iPOd 160GB classic) through dock and stereo is controlled by the iPOd volume control?
Is this correct for the new clsassic - it doesnt work this way for other models where using line out disabled the iPod volume control.so is that the way its supposed to be?

Since upgrading to 3.1 i've been having problems controlling the volume in my 1G touch. Now this is the touch that doesn't have the external buttons, so before when playing a game I could just twice press home button and the little ipod volume control would pop without exiting the game. Now when I do this on 3.1, it exits the game and brings up the ipod app. This happens too when I used the Stanza app to read a book with audiobook and to stop the audiobook the ipod app comes too. Does this mean the 3.1 is only for newer ipods touches?

daChibi, the features that you can set in settings won't do what Mell was asking for.
Here's a rundown of new and exciting features options for the home button. You can double click to:
Bring up the home screen (which is really disabling double click, since you're making the feature identical to single click)
Bring up the search screen (which you can already do with two single clicks)
Bring up the actual ipod app (which you could previously do by bringing up the pop up controls then selecting music).
If you find these options slightly less functional than the old ability to bring up pop-up controls without having to exit an app, even when there's no music currently playing, make sure you've submitted feedback. http://www.apple.com/feedback -
The volume control on my ipod touch 4th Gen is gone,what should I do?
It just happen to me lately, so as I open the music while my earhones are plugged,I saw that there is no volume control on my screen but the song is still playing but I can't hear anything so I remove my earphones then I plugged it again then the volume controls show. I have to do this all over again just to listen to my songs. Also,when I try to play it on loudspeaker,the volume control is missing again. I already restore my ipod but it is still the same. My OS is up to date so my itunes are. what should I do? Does somebody experiencing the same? Somebody help. Thanks

Ipod touch 1st Gen, no volume control after update to 3.1.2
So i just upgraded my ipod touch to 3.1.2 which cost about $6, and the volume control is missing( even with the headphones plugged in).
How can i fix this? i dont want to do a restore and not have the firmware i just paid for.The recovery at a XP-PC was successful! So it's clearly a driver issue.
For he ones who have a similar problem, but without the two "Recovery Mode - Devices" in the device manager, I had this problem, too. But it was easier to solve.
Look for your iPod in the device manager. It can be found in "Portable devices". Let your Windows (even 7) update the driver online. That helped in my case. But only till I tried the firmware update... :-/
So be careful! If you want to update the software of your iPod Touch or iPhone, too, I think, on a Windows 7 machine, make sure, that you have another PC with an older OS in reach!
I hope I could help somebody till Apple releases some compatible drivers...

Ipod Touch Gen 1 and 3.1.3 volume control
Im pretty annoyed at the latest firmware upgrade, the completely removes onscreen volume control. and the ipod touch 1st generation has no side buttons for it, making this now impossible for me to change without going into an app that has volume in it.
Before it was bad enough because I could not double click my button to enter the volume control/song change quick menu unless music was already playing, but I got around it.
I'm pretty disappointed with apples lack of support for earlier versions. Not only that, but I can find absolutely no feedback forms for anything other than itunes and the website.I seem to recall that this issue only exists when there is nothing plugged into the headphone jack -- if you plug something in then you should have volume control. I guess the problem would be if you use an FM transmitter, is that the case?

1st gen iPod touch has lost it's volume control
After last update my iPod has lost it's volume control. I've tried everything I can think of - including doing a complete wipe and reinstall.
I've tested with several different headphones, incl Apples own, a pair of Skullcandy and a pair of Sennheiser.
No matter what I plug in the volume is extremely low, and I have no way of turning it up.
I've tried starting a playlist and then leave the music in the background. Then normally double-tapping the home button brings up music controls. That does happen, but there are no volume controls. Also there is no "Dock Connector" label in the control box.
What can I do?I'm suffering from the same frustrating problem. One thing that worked for me for a week was to go into settings->General and change the sound effects to just come out of headphones. Until recently it's been an intermittent issue, but now appears to be solid. Like you, I've tried with a variety of headphones and nothing happens apart from getting really quiet music playing (barely audible). It's almost as if the volume limit is being set really low.

My ipod touch thinks headsets are plugged in as indicated when pressing volume control. We did a reset but that did not work. What is next?
- Try cleaning out/blowing out the headphone jack. Try inserting/removing the plug a dozen times or so. There is a little switch in the headphone jack that disconnects the speaker when the headphone jack is inserted.

It sounds like the iPod isn't restoring correctly. Try putting the it into Disk Mode manually and then restoring the iPod again as described in the article linked below.

Before placing the iPod into Disk Mode, verify that it has a charge.
Reset the device by pressing the Sleep and Home buttons simultaneously until the display shows the Apple logo. This should take about eight seconds.

I need small earbud earphones with a volume control for my IPod shuffle.
Can any of you tell me what company or companies make small earbud earphones with a volume control to use with my Ipod shuffle? The standard Apple earphones are too large for my ears and after about 30 minutes of use I have to take them off. I ordered some JLab small earbud earphones but now that they've arrived I realize they don't have a volume control.
Hey, I had the same problem when I first bought my Ipod. The issue is not with the Ipod its with iTunes, go to Preferences then Playback, change the volume on SOUND ENHANCER, I recommend the sound check but thats personal.
After you do that, connect your Ipod and go to settings uncheck maximum volume, and sync. I added memory for Ipod usage to make sure (decreases # of songs for ipod usage)

I just got an iphone 4 yesterday. I got everything all set up and working great. When I woke up last this morning, my ipod has no sound and the albums covers are all mixed up. I've checked all my settings and volume control. My text sound won't work either. However, my ringtone works just fine.
