IPod volume varies

I've had some strange volume anomalies using the iPhone iPod. Some songs are very crisp, clear and loud while others are muted to nearly half the volume. At first I thought it might be a difference in the song compression quality and then I noticed that it even happened to songs on the same album. And it doesn't seem to be auto-correcting the volume. It doesn't adjust up and down during the song. Each song begins and plays all the way through at that level.
Anyone else noticing this?

I believe the "Sound Check" option in iTunes affects playback on the computer only.
The "Sound Check" on the iPhone only affects the phone. The option is on on my phone and I am having the same problems. Along the same lines as volume issue, when I am listening to music, I have to turn it up all the way to hear music, but when I answer the phone, I have to turn it down. What gives?

  • IPod volume inconsistant

I have a 30gig ipod video. I have it attached to my Pioneer car stereo via a Pioneer cable that charges the ipod and transfers music to the car stereo.
My problem is that the volume varies greatly from artists and songs. The music that I imported from CD's are low volume and some songs that I purchased from the Apple Music store have high volume, and it blasts me out when I select them.
I know there is a switch in iTunes to make the volume consistant when using iTunes. My question is there a way to make the volume consistant for my iPod when using my car stereo?

Use the soundcheck feature to level out the volume somewhat.
Apply it in iTunes using the edit/preferences/playback menu (Windows).
    iTunes/preferences/playback (Macs).
Turn it on on the iPod using the settings/soundcheck/on menu.
After applying it in iTunes, sync your iPod to reflect the changes made.
There are 3rd party programs that do this more effectively (at least in my opinion).
    For Windows there is mp3/aacGain.
However, mp3/aacgain will have no effect on songs purchased from the iTunes store.

Yes but there's no point doing it here. As the Terms of Use make quite clear this is a User to User forum. It's Users like you talking to other Users. It's not a channel to communicate with Apple.

  • Ipod Volume Control

I have set the Max volume on my IPOD. The problem is I can no longer lower the volume when a song is actually playing like I used to be able to??? Don't know why this would be happening now?? If I go to turn the wheel and lower the volume when a song is playing the volume bar doesn't show up???

Apparently, all but the Apple Universal dock uses the "line out" from the iPod to the audio out on the dock. This is a constant level output (like the one from you CD player, e.g.) and is not affected by the iPod volume control. The Universal Dock, it would seem, pipes the headphone output to the dock's audio out socket so the volume control does work. This was most likely done to allow for the use of the Apple remote control. Also, this makes the socket on the universal dock the same as the headphone jack on the iPod and allows you to also use the dock's audio socket for video exactly as it functions with the 5G iPod headphone jack.
Anyway, your dock appears to be functioning as it should.

  • My iPod volume is locked and I can't hear it anymore?

My iPod volume is locked and I can't change the code it hear it?

    What can I do ?

  • Ipod volumes randomly goes up and down

okay in my ipod i randomly have a problem where i'll be listening to a song and the volume will like control itself, i sware im not touching the ipod when its doing this. it goes either up and down for at least 30 secs before it stops. it happened again today for about the fifth time and was wondering why its doing this.

I have this problem as well. Just got the iPod video on Thursday, worked for a day, then started doing the volume jumping thing. Then I tried playing the Superman clip from iTunes Store, and it froze it. I tried turning it off, to no avail. Then I tried doing the reset. No luck. I tried restoring on the computer. Locked up my computer hardcore.
This is my 2nd person iPod, 5th in the family. first to have this sort of issues.
It's going back, for an exchange. This one's buggy.

And why is the crappy supermarket mp3 player louder then my Ipod Classic then???
I don't know, you tell us!
I also use an extra AKG headphone with a low impedance which fits the Ipods output, otherwise it would even be more silent.
I have an old pair of AKG K340 headphones and I use a Cmoy "altoids" amp to drive them from the iPod.
I compared also with my old 5.5 Video Ipod and with the volume cap enabled (i can also uncap it of course :-)) it is 5dB louder then the classic.
I believe it is a known fact that the 5th gen iPod can be hacked, the Classic cannot.
I am also working for a very big service department for Nokia Siemens Networks and within i learned that the customer is the king, but this doesn't seem to apply for Apple.
As has already been said, it is an EU law - and all mp3 players sold within the EU must comply with EU legislation. If you know of a brand that doesn't, perhaps it's not actually approved for sale within the EU. Apple are not going to ignore an EU law, whatever you think or say! Do you think the EU would simply roll over and let Apple ignore this law?
I am not the only complaining customer i suppose, and normally when a company is loosing (normally satisfied) customers it should think about customer oriented solutions.
    As above!
When i buy an Apple product i automatically assume a very good product, but i am really, really annoyed this time. Other producers within the EU don't play by the book and no one takes care about it, or how can the supermarket mp3 play much louder than the classic (i measured the same!! output impedance).
I believe other manufacturers do play by the book. Is "supermarket mp3 player" a euphemism for something that should not be sold within the EU?
You know - since you feel this strongly about it, you should take the matter up with your MEP (Member of the European Parliament), since what you say here will not change a thing.

  • My 10G iPod-Volume Levels Erratic + Freezing...HELP!

Admittedly, I have a 3 year old 10G iPod. But I'd prefer to getting it working well if I can instead of junking it for a new model. We've been through a lot together...ha ha
The problem with mine is that the volume levels jump in-between songs pretty often. I will be listening to it on the bus and then suddenly a new song will start at a mind-numbingly LOUD level, even though I have not touched the pad. At first I attributed it to how albums are randomly mastered at different volume levels, but I generally make a point to equalize them before loading onto the iPod. I also have the sound check function clicked ON.
Anyone heard of this problem? any suggestions?
It will also freeze playing occasionally, even though the song timer continues to play out. I'd say this happens every 20 songs or so. What's that about?
Should I try to revert back to factory settings? Or should I just throw in the towel?

Hi, i bought my Ipod touch 8g last week, now, when i play my music ( without earphones ) the volume is very low even though it is on full, in fact its pretty useless, it was much louder, has anyone got any ideas please? Thanks.
    Maureen.

  • 2gb ipod volume

2gb ipod shuffle earlier model....right earphone volume is much lower than the left earphone volume....Itunes volume is set to maximum with ipod connected(ipod settings)... I have looked at edit, preferences in itunes..sound enhancer or sound check doesnt seem to help
how do I get the right and left earphones to have equal volume?

Have you tried your headphones in another device? If the problem moves, then it's the headphones. Also, have you tried a different pair of headphones, in order to eliminate them as the cause of the problem?
By the way, for future reference, you would be better off putting posts about a 2GB Shuffle under the correct forum. In this case, it probably doesn't matter, but if your problem relates to the iPod itself, then posting in the Classic forum is unlikely to get many responses from anyone else with a shuffle.

  • IPod volume needs to be more consistent and louder. Ideas anyone?

I am really impressed with the revolutionary achievement of Apple's iPod. Yet, I'm bothered by the difficulty of managing its volume.
Even with Sound Check turned on, there's quite a bit of discrepancy between the volume of older or classical recordings and newer, pop-rock songs purchased from the iTunes Store. I purchased and tried the "iVolume" shareware recommended in other discussions, but it has no effect on the "Protected" music files from the iTunes Store. The best I've been able to do is adjust individual songs with the volume tab in the Get Info window, and that's tedious and hit-or-miss, especially without some kind of volume meter.
Then, ever since an iTunes update introduced a volume limiter (to protect the eardrums of those headset users too reckless to care for themselves), I can't raise the volume of my iPod to match my car radio. Switching from the iPod to the radio produces a loud radio blast that hurts MY eardrums!
Has anyone discovered a fix for these problems?
    Thanks.

John, I've been there and done that. Allow me to repeat what I said in my question: turning on Sound Check does not resolve the issue.
Perhaps it works for you -- if all your music is within the same genre or of about the same age. But I have a somewhat eclectic library -- Pop, Rock, Country, Classical, Oldies, New Age, Easy Listening, Big Band, Soundtracks, etc., etc. With this mix, Sound Check has minimal effect.
Moreover, I still have the problem of being unable to set the main volume level high enough to be compatible with the car radio. This was not a problem with earlier versions of iTunes. It is likely that a code exists to unwrite the code that introduced the volume limitation. I'm hoping that someone can tell me how to do that.
Thanks, though, for submitting your suggestion. It probably will be helpful to others reading this thread.

  • Very Low Ipod volume

I have recently bought a 2GP Ipod with colour display in the United Kingdom and I am very upset with the volume level. On the majority of tracks the volume is very low and when it is cranked up to maximum it sometimes distorts the sounds although they are not very loud. I have fiddled with the EG settings but to no avail.
When using Itunes I set the volume to the maximum - is this incorrect. I am using Sony ear phones - the ones with the little plugs which go straight in your ear.
Please can someone advise me what do as I am rather upset with the iPod - I have used the EU Pro Booster but it doesn't seem to help.

Normally I do not engage in contest such as these, especially when I am correct, however I will take the time to set you straight on a few things.
Your Statement: well thank you for your very kind and informative information.
My reply: Never a problem. I do not mind correcting people that are not well informed, and where I might have a bit more knowledge.
Your question: so do you live in europe and do you have a ipod from europe?
My reply: Yes I live in Europe and no I do not have a European iPod, but I have taken the time to read about the differences between the US and European version. Can you say the same?
Your question: if not do you have a head piece from b&o?
My reply: When you say, head piece do you mean, head phones, or ear phones, or some additional piece of equipment from B&O designed for use with audio devices? You were not clear here so I naturally assumed you meant headphones. Second, how does this figure into the equation?
Your question: if not what made you the king of judges to contamplate about my taste and the way i like my music?
My reply: Show me in my original post where I judged your musical tastes. Second, where did I say any thing about how you life your music. I only stated a FACT (something that you failed to do), about how non-sealing headphones such as the B&O's that can not isolate sound can not match headphones that completely isolate the listener from ambient noise. My facts verses your opinion.
Your sophomoric question: do you work for these folks www.etymotic.com
My answer: No. Even if I did, you are still wrong and I am still correct.
Your question: did i ask your opionion?
My reply: Nope, but this is a public forum and I am providing facts where you are providing opinions. Who would you listen to? You with guesses and conjecture, or me who has provided details and links to possibly solve a problem for the stater of this thread?
Your statement: I was just talking to a fellow who lived in europe and had a problem?
My reply: So was I, and had info to back mine up.
Your question: who are you to tell me that i am mistaken?
My reply: Obviously someone that seems to know quite a bit more than you about this issue.
Your statement: learn to be polite and express your views this way
My reply: Learn or have an idea about what you wish to discuss and I will not have to correct you again.

  • Ipod volume issue

My ipod randomly decided to stop having a volume bar, I cannot use the external speakers or hook up my head phones to listen. Ive done the three Rs and none of those work. However, what I noticed was that when I go into the Itunes store and listen to a preview of a song it says Dock Connector, so Im assuming the ipod still thinks its on a dock despite the fact that I never use the dock I have for it. Once on the dock the sound comes out of the speakers connected to the dock. What I want is for it to be able to play at least through the headphones. Any help is good help.

Mines doing the same thing right now
I connect it to my doc then the volume bar shows for a seconed and then gos into doc mode then when I take it off itl show the volume bar for like five seconeds then it gos into doc mode without being on the f'in thing but I think it's the music app cuz the speaker works for me in recordings but not in the music app mines just the speaker that gets all weird but my headphones work fine this is an Internal issue or external cuz I tried cleaning my connecter but that didn't seem to work I restored it and turned it off and on a million times hut no it doesn't wanna play outloud with the music app may e the update that's coming out for iPhone 4 and iPod touch 3G will fix it but right now I'm in the same spot as u right now ( generaly ****** that my iPod touch 3G that I payed 350$ for doesn't wanna play out loud and trying everything doesn't work is just a **** off for anyone

  • My ipods volume wouldnt go down and every time i tried to turn it down it went back up to full volume, does anyone know what the problem is?

this morning i turned my music on and the volume wouldn't go down, and every time i tried to turn it down it just kept going back up. If i were to hold the volume slide down while playing the music it would make a sort of chopping sound in the music. I finally restarted it and it fixed it but i was wondering what the problem was.

Did you already try to reset the ipod by holding the sleep and home button until the Apple logo comes back again?
If this does not work, restore "as new device" without using the latest backup, in case it contains corrupt files.
