IPod wil lnot synch.

For the last 2 days my iPod will not synch, although I can download purchases and import CD,s and delete items in iTunes, these will not synch.I am seeing 2 error messages that I have never seen before"cannot find file" and "cannot read or write to disk"I have no idea what these mean,I am not doing anything differently to what I have before, the iPod has always synched automatically. In addition, the iPod is not re-charging from the computer,in fact I think the battery is drained while I am trying to find out what is going on.I have changed the firewire but that has made no difference.Anyone got any ideas?I have to mention that I never use a computer except to organise iTunes music files from time to time.

tell us more details.

  • HT204088 How how can I synch my ipod + iphone music to my new computer? I get the same error  "my ipod or iphone is synched with another itunes library. An Ipod can be synched with only one itunes library at a time. What would I like to do Erase and Synch

How can I synch my ipod & iphone music (purchased from itunes on my old laptop) to my new laptop? I keep getting the same message on my itunes on my new laptop: " The ipod/Iphone is synched with another itunes library. An ipod/iphone can be synched with only one itunes library at a time. What would you like to do - Erase and Synch or Transfer Purchases?" What do I do?
    A couple of other items:
    1) I am guessing Apple does not keep a history of all my music purchases? As I did not have my entire library backed-up anywhere, and relying on the music I have on my ipod and my iphone as my only source of itunes music....I have lost over 500 songs!!!
    2) I used to have an Apple account under another account name, and since have switched to a new account name. Is there anyway to find the history of purchases from my old Apple account name and transfer these over to my new account name and onto my new laptop?
I hope someone can help, I am having a very difficult time trying to obtain answers. Angie

The iphone/ipod is NOT a storage/backup device.  Not maintaining a backup copy is a big mistake.
You can transfer itunes purchases from your iphone/ipod to your computer:
Authorize your computer for all accounts and then click  File>Transfer Purchases

  • The ipod cannot be synched. the disk could not be read from or written to?

So I've done everything possible to try to get my touch to sync all my songs from my itunes library at once and nothing is working. So sadly i spent the entire day plugging and unpluggin the usb cord because at most i could put 30 songs on my touch before it came up with the error "the ipod cannot be synched. The disk could not be read from or written to." this is very frustrating as i have many videos i purchased on itunes with anticipation of putting them on my touch but if i try to do so at most it downloads half then it pops up with the same error. If anyone of y'all can help, that would be greatly appreciated i'm slowly but surely giving up on the touch all together even though i love it this error to it is very time consuming and annoying.

Same problem. With an iPod Touch.
This began after I accidently pulled out the USB before it was fully ejected. (I hit eject, and the icon vanished from iTunes, so I THOUGHT I was okay...) But I got the error. And since then, I've got the error you speak of. Mine may be a tad off.
When I drag a song from iTunes or the Finder into the iPod it copies fine but then the error pops up.
But now it's fixed, and I'm not sure why. And I'm hoping it doesn't come back.
I remember I went into the iPod Touch itself. Went to...
Settings > General > Reset > Reset All Settings
After that, I got back to the window from iTunes asking if I want to manually manage songs. I unchecked the box next to the choice of letting iTunes do it automatically.
But Even after that, I had the synching problem.
So I went into the main iPod Touch tab in iTunes. Under options the "Manually manage music and videos" box WAS CHECKED. I decided to uncheck it. Maybe the iPod was observing 'Opposite Day'. I know my cellphone does. On my cellphone, when I choose to play videos without sound, it plays WITH sound. So, I dunno...
Anyway, after I UNCHECKED "Manually manage music and videos" I ejected the iPod and reconnected it. And I plugged the USB into another port. Guess what? It didn't automatically synch. And when I added music on my own from either iTunes or the Finder, it worked well too. The weirdest thing... when I went to have a look at the box next to "Manually manage music and videos" - it had been checked again, without my doing.
UPDATE: And as I began typing that last sentence - THE ERROR CAME BACK. So.. NEVERMIND! I'm still stuck and angry!
*UPDATE II:* The error happened again after a song I was listing to in iTunes from the Touch ended. Once it ended, the error popped up and music stopped playing. I tried dragging a new song from iTunes into the Touch and it wouldn't let me. I unplugged and then plugged the iPod back in, and dragged songs again. So far it works... SO FAR. So far no errors. I tried deleting a song from the Touch and also no problem.
*UPDATE III:* I did a test. I added album artwork to songs that had none, already inside my Touch. It took a bit longer than it would have on my computer, but all tracks on the album got the art work, and the error message has yet to display since I did so.
*UPDATE IV* I've only been adding up to 10 songs at a time, worried that it would freeze. This time I added 31 songs, and they all imported - no error messages. Currently I'm worried that if I play a song from my Touch through iTunes the message will return. I'm too afraid to do it deliberately. I know I was able to do so with no problem with my 2nd Gen 10GB iPod I've had for years. That was working with my computer as of 3 days ago!

  • Error "The IPod cannot be synched. A duplicate file name was specified"

When I drag a song from my ITunes library to my Nano, an error pops up that says "The IPod cannot be synched. A duplicate file name was specified." I've read on other boards that I should delete the IToner bundle, but there is no IToner bundle in ITunes plug ins, just a Quartz Composer Visualizer. ANy suggestions on how to keep the error message from popping up every time I add a song?

  • Ok...i just baught a new ipod touch and synched it to my old computer to get my music off it...but when i synched it to my new comp it wants to erase everything thats not baught from i tunes....how do i keep the music in order to sync to my new comp?

i just baught a new ipod touch and synched it to my old computer to get the music off it but when i synched it to my new computer it wants to delete all the music on it that wasnt baught through itunes....how do i keep my cd's and stuff that are on the ipod now and put it onto my new computer?

These are two possible approaches that will normally work to move an existing library to a new computer.
    Method 1
Backup the library with this User Tip.
Deauthorize the old computer if you no longer want to access protected content on it.
Restore the backup to your new computer using the same tool used to back it up.
Keep your backup up-to-date in future.
    Method 2
Connect the two computers to the same network. Share your <User's Music> folder from the old computer and copy the entire iTunes library folder into the <User's Music> folder on the new one. Again, deauthorize the old computer if no longer required.
Both methods should give the new computer a working clone of the library that was on the old one. As far as iTunes is concerned this is still the "home" library for your devices so you shouldn't have any issues with iTunes wanting to erase and reload.
I'd recommend method 1 since it establishes an ongoing backup for your library.
Note if you have iOS devices and haven't moved your contacts and calendar items across then you should create one dummy entry of each in your new profile and iTunes should  merge the existing data from the device.
If your media folder has been split out from the main iTunes folder you may need to do some preparatory work to make it easier to move. See make a split library portable.
Should you be in the unfortunate position where you are no longer able to access your original library or a backup then then see Recover your iTunes library from your iPod or iOS device for advice on how to set up your devices with a new library with the maximum preservation of data.

  • My new ipod won't synch or restore

My new ipod won't synch. It comes up need to restore, then can't be restored.  Error code 9.  Security disabled.

Error 9: This error occurs when the device unexpectedly drops off the USB bus and communication stops. This can occur if the device is manually disconnected during the restore process. This issue can be resolved by performing USB isolation troubleshooting, using a different USB dock-connector cable, trying another USB port, restoring on another computer, or by eliminating conflicts from third-party security software.

  • IPod Won't Synch on New Computer

I just moved over to a new computer. Now when I try to synch my iPod with iTunes I get the following message "Attempting to copy to the disk "XXX iPod" failed. The disk is locked and cannot be written to." Is this because the iPod is not recognizing the new computer as its "home computer?" Do I need to restore the factory settings in order for the iPod to recognize the new computer as its "home computer?" Will this then allow the iPod to automatically synch again every time I connect the iPod? Any help would really be appreciated!

Hi hey how were able to put it on a new computer because that is what I am trying to do and cant get any help from apple because my warranty has expired..maybe together we can figure this out..thanks Vickie

  • Updated iPod now slow synching to iTunes???

I just got back from 18 months travelling, during which time my PC (with iTunes) was continually switched off, and my iPod was travelling with me. Upon returning I had a few weeks back on my PC before I reconnected the internet at home, during which time I had my iPod connected via USB to my PC and everything continued to work as it had before I left, apart from when I clicked into the iPod "drive" on my HD I got a threat warning for a file "I-Worm/BrontokX Data Graffiti.exe". I have never heard of this worm and so far detected no weird behaviour in either the iPod on its own, or iTunes, or accessing the iPod through iTunes (synching etc). I didn't want it to automatically quarrantine any files on the iPod itself, so I did nothing. At this stage the versions of both iPod software and iTunes were those from February 2009.
I recently reconnected the internet and firstly restored the iPod to factory settings just to be safe with respect to the virus threat warning. I then updated both iPod software and iTunes to current versions (iTunes version 10.0.1.22). I then re-synched my iPod.
The first thing I noticed is that things are MUCH slower now. Whereas I used to be able to synch new contact at the rate of one new song every second or 2, synching my library from scratch again took a VERY long time, up to 1 minute per song, or about 8 hours for 15GB of media.
Secondly, I keep my media on an external hard drive (due to space on my PC) and I find that I'm having relatively frequent issues now with iTunes "losing" my media and not being able to find it on the external drive (little "!" appears next to song etc), and not being able to find the connected iPod, which never happened on the old versions before I did the updates. Closing and restarting iTunes does not fix it, but restarting the PC does.
Thirdly, now that I have re-synched, the media now seems to be taking much less space on my iPod. Before the update, I had virtually filled my 16GB iPod nano with my entire library. Now, the same library takes barely more than 12GB of space on the iPod.
    I guess my questions/issues are:
    * Any ideas about the "virus" threat "I-Worm/BrontokX Data Graffiti.exe"? I assume that restoring the iPod to factory settings would have removed any issue but should I be more worried?
    * The new versions of iTunes/iPod software just seem to be more, well, jittery than what I had, even if it was versions from Feb09 ("losing" my media, "losing" the iPod, taking far longer to synch etc)?
    * Why would media that took 15GB of space on my iPod before the software update, now take only 12GB? I'm worried that stuff is going missing but I can't go through 3,500 songs individually
    Any ideas/hints/tips/comments welcome

1st Gen minis required a connection to the power adapter to complete the Firmware update. AC adapters were provided in the box with all 1st Gen minis. 2nd Gen minis do not need this step.
You'll need to find an adapter to complete the process. Sometimes an auto DC charger can also work.
No way around this requirement for the 1st Gen mini (and some earlier iPods as well).

Seriously though, you are very correct.
"HELP!!!" and "iTunes" are not very meaningful.
I don't even usually look at them.

  • TS1702 My IPod Nano is synched to my ITunes library, but when I click on the Device name, all of the music is "grayed out" and I can't click on anything.

My IPod Nano is synched to my ITunes library and shows up under Devices, but when I click on the Device name, all of the music is "grayed out" and I can't click on anything.

In order for this content to not appear grayed out, you need to enable the Manually manage music option from under the iPod's Summary tab in iTunes.  Keep in minding that manually managing your iPod's contents is different from having content automatically sync to your device from iTunes.  See here for more information.

Try deleting the iPod Photo Cache from the nominated folder that you have set up to sync photos to the devices.

First try to resolve #2 by:
    See
iOS: Device not recognized in iTunes for Windows
    - I would start with
Removing and Reinstalling iTunes, QuickTime, and other software components for Windows XP
    or
Removing and reinstalling iTunes and other software components for Windows Vista, Windows 7, or Windows 8
However, after your remove the Apple software components also remove the iCloud Control Panel via Windows Programs and Featurs appin the Window Control Panel. Then reinstall all the Apple software components
    - New cable and different USB port
    - Run this and see if the results help with determine the cause
iTunes for Windows: Device Sync Tests
    - Try on another computer to help determine if computer or iPod problem
If you can resolve #1 and still get same message for #1 then you have to restore the iPod like the message says.
