IPod will not act as a harddrive to save files

Hi all,
I'm trying to save a file on my iPod in Windows. I've done this many, many times before, when my iPod was in windows format. I had changed it to Mac format, but for this purpose I've changed it back to Windows format. I can't understand why I'm not able to save files...I get error message "The disk in the destination drive is full. Insert a new disk to continue." Then I hit retry and i'm told there is not enough free space.
There is 27Gig free on my iPod. I have 'enable disk use' selected in iTunes. Does anyone know what can be done? has anyone had this problem before?
Any help is appreciated.
Vincenso

I had the same problem, and like Jeff said, it´s all about the FAT32 system, so I converted my ipod into NTFS system, which allows you to copy files without GBs limitn only the free space in your disk. So, when i did this i could copy an 8GB file, and i was smiling but when i syncronized it with i-tunes and then i wanted to listen to my music on my way, the ipod was empty, without any song, video or podcast, even when on itunes said that the syncronization was complete.
So it seems like it works like a hard disk but not like an ipod, an i had to converted again into FAT32, without the posibillity to move files larger than 4GB.
Is it impossible to have the two things in windows? An ipod able to copy larger files? it would be great if it it were possible!!!

  • 4th Gen iPod will not mount or connect to Windows

Hi, one of my iPods will not connect to Windows XP. Its a 4th Gen 40gb non photo iPod
The iPod still plays and works "normally" as a portable device (ie I can play music), but I cannot connect it to my pc at all.
When I plug it in via either USB or Firewire ports the iPod disc whirrs and gets stuck in a loop (that can last over 2 hours plus) before i need to reset it in order to disconnect it from the pc.
When I connect, it doesn't launch iTunes as it should.
It doesn't appear in My Computer.
It doesnt appear in Computer Management>Disk Management
Latest iPod updater cannot read it (even when put in disk mode) and tells me that it can't mount the iPod.
Also, the iPod has since started to mess my PC up - it will not allow the PC to boot up with the iPod connected. If I connect the iPod to the PC with iTunes already launched it causes iTunes to freeze and crash. When I go to restart the PC, Windows will not shutdown.
Getting sick now - any ideas please (besides throwing it out the window!)?
It's weird how the iPod still plays, but it will not connect to the PC when my other 4G 30gb photo and Shuffle will.

I have tried resetting and restoring the ipod before, and I have put it into disk mode too (in order to restore it) but the ipod updater said it could not mount it
However, I did try Deanz advice by putting it into disk mode whilst attached to the mains and then connecting it to the PC has at least enabled me to see it in "My Computer" for the first time as (the "F" drive), even if iTunes is not recognising it.
However, when I attempt to see the ipod in Disk Management I get the same problem outlined above in an earlier post (grey screen).
If I try to browse the iPod via My computer that task freezes. Task Manager claims the function is "not responding"
    Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr
Anyway, all my music is backed up so that's not a problem. The iPod works, but I can't update it so it could be worse. Not really sure how to remap the iPod to a different drive letter
[edit] During the process of closing down the non-responsive "My Computer", Windows had a major gimp out and completely froze me out until I reset the ipod an put it back into disc mode (again). Then Windows reappeared in the same state before it crashed. I suspect this is due to some kind of conflict with the iPod as it has done this a few times now since my iPod started acting up (and only when the iPod is connected).
Thinking of some elaborate home insurance claim now..............

  • An Album (CD) I have imported in my iTunes, and is on my iPod, will not sync over to my iPad. Why not?

An Album  (CD) that I have successfully imported into iTunes, and synced with my iPod, will NOT sync with my iPad, even though I have done everything I know how to do so. When viewing the music in "On This iPad" mode, I can actually see the album there, but it is grayed out, and in the left hand column there is a circle with dotted lines, as if it is an incomplete download--which in essence it is. But I have the album (CD) in my iTunes and on my iPod, just like hundreds of other CD's--what's up with this one?
Another characteristic is that since trying to import this CD into my iPad, I cannot get a successful sync of the iPad now; the syncing process hangs up in "Waiting for changes to be applied" for 3 or 4 minutes, and then it just stops.  No message that "The syncing process is complete. Please eject before disconnecting." The sync just quits on its own, so I take it that the syncing process was unsuccessful.
    Now what?

Make sure that your music is in the format supported by the iPhone. I use either MP3 or AAC.
A friend had the same problem a while back. All his music was in the WMA format and is therefore not playable on the iPhone and would not copy. Once he converted his songs to MP3 they copied to his iPhone without problem.

my ipod touch has a usb cable picture with an arrow pointing to the itunes logo. the ipod will not connect to a computer and is unable to be turned off as there is no red power slider when the power button is pressed. what can i do to fix this?

    Try:
    - iOS: Not responding or does not turn on
    - Also try DFU mode after try recovery mode
How to put iPod touch / iPhone into DFU mode « Karthik's scribblings
    - If not successful and you can't fully turn the iOS device fully off, let the battery fully drain. After charging for an least an hour try the above again.
    - Try on another computer
    - If still not successful that usually indicates a hardware problem and an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store is in order.

  • My ipod will not charge from a wall socket but will charge using the same cable if the usb end is plugged into a computer or an airport power source. My iphone and ipad charge fine on the same cable usin ghte same wall plug in the same wall socket?

My ipod will not charge from a wall socket but will charge using the same cable if the usb end is plugged into a computer or directly into an airport power source. My iphone and ipad charge fine on the same cable using the same wall plug in the same wall socket. This makes no sense but I see that it has been posted as a problem elsewhere. This must be due to some kind of degredation of the Ipod. . It is not fixed by IOS resets as others have noted.
Has anyone asked Apple directly about this?

    Hi there Apples or Pears,
I would recommend taking a look at the troubleshooting steps found in the articles below.

  • My iPod will not show up in the Itunes device list plus I get an error message

    Hello!
My iPod will not show up in the Itunes device list plus I get an error message
" One or more devices is getting too much power from the USB wire" or sumptin like that.
I've tried this with two wires, so the problem is not there.
I reseted the iPod to factory settings but it didn't help.
    Anyone??

    - See:
    iPod touch: Hardware troubleshooting
    - Try another cable. Some 5G iPods were shipped with Lightning cable that were either initially defective or failed after short use.
    - Try another USB port and computer
    - Inspect the dock connector on the iPod for bent or missing contacts, foreign material, corroded contacts, broken, missing or cracked plastic.
    - Make an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store.

  • My Ipod will not transfer all of its songs to purchased Itunes song transfer.  My last pv crashed, I dont have access to it any more.  I want my library back on Itunes.  ANy help?

My Ipod will not transfer songs.  my old PC crashed and could not recover anything from it.  When I purchased my new Dell, when I loaded Itunes back on to it my content library will only transfer over purchased Itune songs.  I have tons of songs I downloaded from the old "CD" onto my new Itunes account from my Ipod.  Any help?

so then technically I can't transfer the songs off my ipod to my itunes library?  since it is one 1 transfer from pc to ipod...correct?  So when I synch my ipod the warning screen comes up and says "there are content not in the library, erase and synch library to Itunes, only purchased songs can transfer."   Can I leave the songs on my ipod and when I purchase new songs to itunes I can still transfer those correct?  while having the others on there that wont transfer?

  • I just got a new computer and my iPOD will not sync to it because of the old computer. How can I get my library to sync on the new computer????

I originally synced my iPOD to my PC in April 2011.  I purchased a new computer but my iPOD will not sync to it because it is synced to the old PC.  I do not want to erase my iPOD to sync with the new PC because I have loaded alot of music from CD's to it.  HELP!

See this article how to transfer your data? How to back up your data and set up as a new device
Make sure your new computer is authorized in iTunes. Disable autosync in itunes, connect your ipod, right click on it in the device list and choose backup.
This will save data, pictures and settings to itunes. See what's included in this backup here: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1766
Transfer your purchases the same way to copy all apps and bought media from the Store to your computer.
Set up at least one contact and event on your computer to be able the merge your calendars and contacts after your ipod got wiped during the first sync.
The rest of the data can be restored from the backup you made.
    Restoring: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1414
As mentioned by vazandrew, music is one way only, from the computer to your device, unless you bought the songs in itunes and transferred your purchases.
There is 3rd party software out there, but not supported by Apple, see this thread: http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=2013615&tstart=0

  • I add songs to itunes, but ipod will not update!

I imported songs onto my itunes library. But when I plug it in the usb to update, it will automatically disconnect after 5 minutes, and the ipod will not update. I've tried adding all music, and just checked songs; both do not not work.
    I have version 7.0.0.7
I have about 50% of room left on my ipod.
    Any suggestions??

    Hello Rex225
The best way to resolve the issue is to remove the music from the iPhone and then download the purchase again using the steps in the following article.
Downloading past purchases from the App Store, iBookstore, and iTunes Store

  • IPod will not update automatically

After installing iTunes 7.0 I find that my iPod will not sync any more. There is no automatic updating. iTunes recognizes the iPod and says it's updating but nothing updates. It has sat for hours updating and nothing comes across.
I've installed and uninstalled and reinstalled iTunes 7.0 but it doesn't make any difference.
Has anyone any ideas, I've over 9,000 songs so I don't want to even think about restoring the iPod.

Sorry to say, but restoring might be what you have to do.
You can try using the ipod diagnostic by going to Help>run diagnostics and see if any errors are reported

  • Ipod will not update!!! Error (-50)  HEEEELLLLLLP!!!!!

My ipod will not update to manual when I click the box to update manual. The box under is checked as it should be but after about 40sec of "Updating Ipod" an error box pops up and says "Ipod could not update unknown error (-50)". In addition I am no longer able to play the songs from my ipod through my comupter. I am only able to play songs on my computer already through itunes. Please help.
    HP 2225   Other OS

im getting kind of the same problem. i got a new computer with vista on it, and i plugged in my ipod with all the songs on it, and i thought if i set it to put all the songs on my computer it would erase the ones currently on it. i started getting alot of errors saying there wasnt enough space on my 8gb nano, which there should have been enough space but since it wasnt deleting the music already on it.
after trying a few different setting i decided to try the restore button and it said it couldnt restore. so i closed itunes went to computer and into my ipod, enabled it so i could see hidden folders and then deleted all the F1, F2,F3 and so on folders and tried an update and it worked.
but something really strange then happened in itunes, it was on my purchased playlist instead of having just my purchased music it had three copies of all my purchased music, but there wasnt three files of each. itunes did this on my previous computer but it made new copies of the files.
it then worked just like it did on my old computer, but i noticed it wasnt working properly went i got all the album artwork and my new purchased music. now i dont really know what to do, do what i did before and delete the music manually or just wait untill the update in a "few weeks"
i hope this has been helpful to anyone else with similar problems.

  • Ipod will not update new songs from itunes

My ipod will not update new songs from itunes. I've purchased several songs from the music store, updated my playlists and as added some from my CD collection and they are not transfering from my library to my ipod.
I've tried numerous configurations under the preferences - ipod menue but still can't get them to transfer.
One error I occasionally get is "ipod cannot be updated because there is not enough free space to hold all of the songs in the itunes music library"
There is plenty of room on my ipod so I can't figure out why. It almost seems as if it is trying to copy all of my songs not just the new ones because all songs in my librbary are checked.

    Thank you for responding.
Doesn't it have to be on either manual or auto update? What other option is there?
I will try downloading latest updates.
I know it will work if I reset it (have done it a few times already). I just hate having to restore factory settings everytime I want to put a new song onthe ipod.
