IPod will not charge when iTunes in open in Windows 2000

I have a problem with WIndows 2000 iTunes install where the iPod will connect but as soon as it has finished synchronizing the iPod will go back to the main screen and stop charging. I saw several posts on this with no resolution.
I dont have a fix yet but I do have a work around.
Fire up iTunes and plug in the iPOD. It will recognize it and sync. Then select Options and in the iPOD tab uncheck the box which says " launch iTunes when iPOD connects" or something similar. Apply and Exit from options menu.
iTunes will resync with the iPOD. You can now disconnect the iPOD and close iTunes.
Now if you connect the iPOD, iTunes will NOT launch and the iPOD will charge fine, at least mine does:-)
If you now run iTunes it will still connect automatically with the iPOD as before and do all the usual stuff. The only downside to this workaround is that you have to manually start iTunes ( hardly a big deal) and close it and disconnect then reconnect the iPOD ( or just connect it and not start iTunes) for it to charge.
Works for me.
There was a lot of black magic quoted on this support site relating to buying chargers, third party or otherwise and USB not having enough power on thursdays with a 7 in the date or having to use a powered hub of a particular color , alien interference etc etc. All bogus.
Its an Apple software problem and I hope they fix it in the next iTunes release.
Hope this helps.

Thanks for the info, but I finally found what was the problem.
It seems to be related to Itunes config and Nano firmware. I found another post talking about this "Topic: Self-ejecting Nano".
I had to enable disk use in ipod options, but this causes me to manually eject Nano.

    - Contact Bose/go to their support site to see if Bose says it will work. Also look for a firmware update for the Bose.
    - What model/iOS is on the old iPod that works. Sometimes an IOS update breaks compatibility
    - Sometimes this works:
    - Reset the Bose unit
    - Reset the iOS device. Nothing will be lost
Reset iOS device: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Reset all settings
Go to Settings > General > Reset and tap Reset All Settings.
All your preferences and settings are reset. Information (such as contacts and calendars) and media (such as songs and videos) aren’t affected.
    - Restore from backup. See:
    iOS: How to back up
    - Restore to factory settings/new iOS device.
BTW the the Lightning adopter does support audio if the dock supports it.

  • IPod will not charge or show up in iTunes

My iPod will not charge when I connect it to my computer through the USB cable. It does not show up on iTunes. Nothing comes up on the iPod screen at all. The iPod is completely dead. I have tried pressing the menu and center button at the same time. I have tried toggling the hold button. I have tried every combination. It is an old iPod (3 or 4 years at least) 80gb video. I have tried charging on another computer. It seems to only stop working like this if the battery dies completely.
Is there another solution to this besides the menu/center button solution?
    Thanks!!

This is the exact same problem I have. The only thing that works for me is to charge it on an old ihome alarm clock. I bought the alarm clock at the same time as the ipod, and I haven't tried it on a newer ihome device. Once my ipod is totally dead, thats the only thing that will work. I even took it to the apple store and they told me all they could do was give me 10% off a new ipod and "recycle" mine. Before you do that, I would really recommend trying to charge it on an ihome or similar device. Here is a link to the ihome I used to charge mine: http://www.uberreview.com/2005/06/ihome-ih5-ipod-alarm-clock.htm
I hope this works for you!

  • My original Ipod 30gb will not charge when plugged in (suspect battery completely dead...). Help

My orignal 30gb ipod will not charge when plugged in to a power socket. I think the battery has completely run down. Any thoughts?

Which model is this iPod.  The "original" iPod was 5GB or 10GB, so this must be a 3rd gen iPod, at the earliest.  This document shows all the iPod models.
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1353
If it's a 3rd gen iPod, it has a dock connector, but it needs to be connected to a FireWire port to charge.  It does not charge from a USB port.

  • Iphone 4 will not charge and itunes does not recogise it at all.  When I plug it in to charge it says that it needs to be restored.

My iphone 4 will not charge when I plug it in, it will turn on but it says that it needs to be restored and will not do anything else.  When I plug it into itunes it isn't recognized at all.  I took it into the verizon store and they were not any help at all.  My phone isn't under warranty anymore so they don't care.  Please help, I had to go back to my old phone, a droid and I hate it so much.

its fixed!!  After posting my problem with the FROZEN ipod classic (2007) 80 gb a screen popped up with similar subjects that I did not find in my original search.  'Rich Fleming' in the community posted a suggestion to someone with a similar frozen issue and it WORKED when I tried it.
hold the 'menu' and the 'circle' buttons down at the same time, KEEP the pressed until the apple appears. and now it is working.  Hope this helps others.

What is wrong with it?it won't charge when it's powered on only when it s off then it turns on and stops charging?? What's wrong with it ad how much is a Genius Bar appt at apple stores??

    Not Charge
    - See:
    iPod touch: Hardware troubleshooting
    - Try another cable. Some 5G iPods were shipped with Lightning cable that were either initially defective or failed after short use.
    - Try another charging source
    - Inspect the dock connector on the iPod for bent or missing contacts, foreign material, corroded contacts, broken, missing or cracked plastic.
    - Make an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store.

  • Ipod will not turn on, itunes will not open, window says ipod is in recovery mode and needsto be restored

ipod will not turn on, itunes will not open, window pops up says ipod is in recovery mode and needs to be restored. what do i do now?

You restore the iPod via iTunes. Don't plug the iPod in. Open up iTunes and then plug it in and then try restoring, if it fails to restore a few times, keep trying. I do it on a daily basis, you're using an Apple product, remember...
EDIT: Do it from another computer if all else fails.

  • My IPOD will not charge and when I plug it into computer, the cord gets extremely hot but no charge, what is wrong with this thing?

Sounds like a hardware problem.  Take it to the nearest Apple Store.

  • My new iPad mini will not charge when plugged into adapter. Any suggestions?

my new ipad mini will not charge when plugged into adapter. What should I try?

Does the charger get warm at all? Plug the cable into your computer with iTunes open. Does it say not charging.? If it does, the cable is good. The iPad will charge very slowly when pluged into your computer.
The quickest way (and really the only way) to charge your iPad is with the included 10W or 12W USB Power Adapter. iPad will also charge, although more slowly, when attached to a computer with a high-power USB port (many recent Mac computers) or with an iPhone Power Adapter (5W). When attached to a computer via a standard USB port (2.5W, most PCs or older Mac computers) iPad will charge very slowly (but iPad indicates not charging). Make sure your computer is on while charging iPad via USB. If iPad is connected to a computer that’s turned off or is in sleep or standby mode, the iPad battery will continue to drain.
Apple recommends that once a month you let the iPad fully discharge & then recharge to 100%.
How to Calibrate Your Mac, iPhone, or iPad Battery
    http://www.macblend.com/how-to-calibrate-your-mac-iphone-or-ipad-battery/
At this link http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/galaxy-tab-android-tablet,3014-11.html , tests show that the iPad 2 battery (25 watt-hours) will charge to 90% in 3 hours 1 minute. It will charge to 100% in 4 hours 2 minutes. The new iPad has a larger capacity battery (42 watt-hours), so using the 10W charger will obviously take longer. If you are using your iPad while charging, it will take even longer. It's best to turn your new iPad OFF and charge over night. • On an iPod Nano 2G, the iPod will not show in iTunes

Using an iPod Nano 2 G, when I plug it into a Mac, the iPod will not show in iTunes. The iPod will charge, but will not sync. This happens across multiple Mac's, so the issue seems to be the Nano, not the computer(s). The iPod will actually show for about 2 seconds in the left sidebar, then it disappears. Any suggestions about how to either fix this, or maybe how to restore the iPod's software. The iPod otherwise seems to be working correctly, i.e. will play music, etc. we have tried switching ports, cables and computers, same results.

    Did you do everything here:

  • My iPod will not connect to itunes after windows 8.1 download

My iPOD will not connect to itunes after windows 8.1 download
I already uninstall itunes and made sure there were no file left before I installed again (it didn't appear to be any files left but music I had on it before was still there when I reinstall it)
My ipod does work on my old computer and it was working on windows 8 before I update to  8.1
I don't want to installed again because I just did that and didn't work!
I want to use my iPod on this computer and system.  Can this be fix?

    Hey TheBurntApple,
Thanks for the question. I understand that you are experiencing issues with your iPhone connecting to iTunes for Windows. While you may have already attempted most of the steps in this article, I wished to provide it to you just in case something was omitted.

  • My ipod will not sync to itunes on new pc

my ipod will not sync with itunes on new pc

What happens when you try to sync?
Have you synced with this iTunes library/computer before?

  • Recent podcasts of podcasts I subscribe to are not downloading when iTunes is opened

recent podcasts of podcasts I subscribe to are not downloading when iTunes is opened or Touch sync is attempted.

Presumably, you normally open iTunes and let it automatically check for new epsiodes. (The frequency with which it does this can be changed, see below.) Have you allowed it time to think about checking? My iTunes is set to check only once a day.
First of all, make sure that the Settings for Podcast downloads are still set the way you want. (Settings have been known to change - especially after iTunes updates).  Look in Library/Podcasts/Settings (which is at the bottom of the Podcasts window) and makes sure that Check for new episodes: is not set to "manually" and that When new episodes are available is not set to to "do nothing".
If those settings are okay, make sure that your iTunes can still access the internet. (Can you get the the iTunes Store front page?) If other programmes can access the internet, but iTunes cannot, check that your firewall will allow iTunes access.
Let us know how you get on.

  • My phone will not charge when plugged in. It doesn't show the charge bar as green

My phone will not charge when plugged in. It doesn't show the charge bar as green

    Hello alleyfun
For issues with your iPhone not charging, check out the troubleshooting below to see if you can get it sorted out and working again.
iPod Displays a Red "X" Icon
    http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1463
    Resolving issues
If your battery doesn't charge, or if your device shows a low-battery image, black screen, or "accessory not supported" alert, follow these steps.
Inspect the connector at the bottom of the phone:
Make sure that there are no bent pins in the connector.
Make sure that the connector is free from debris.
If there are bent pins or debris, please contact Apple Support.
    Otherwise, continue troubleshooting.
Make sure that the outlet you're using works.
Make sure that the Apple USB cable and Apple USB power adapter work.
Plug the device in to power and let it charge until your device turns on. This could take between 10 and 30 minutes. If you don't have an Apple USB power adapter, try connecting to a computer's high-power USB 2.0 port (not a keyboard). The computer must be on.
If the device still exhibits an issue, try turning your device off and then on again while connected to power.
If the issue persists, please contact Apple Support.
    Regards,
    -Norm G.
