Ipod will not play

ok.
everything is fine on my ipod, except when i go to play a song, no sound comes out and the timer doesnt move.
i have the latest version of itunes and i have reset the ipod.
also when i move the timer myself it goes black and the apple appears.
please help!

I'm having the same problem now too. 30 gigs of my life turned into heavy static. I've read other posts about the same issue - however - no one seems to have a solution - I think it might be dead.

iPod will not play any music. Seems like it is in “Pause” mode.  No sound from either the head phones or internal speaker.  I have 418 songs stored and none will play. I have tried resetting, turning on and off the iPod, etc. but to no avail.

Try restoring from backup. Next would be a restore to factory defaults/new iPod.

Have you went to the manufacturer's support site?
Does the manufacturer say the dock works with your model iPod Touch and iOS?  Many do not.

My iPod will not play the next song, it continously plays the same song unless I manually change it.

It sounds like the repeat setting has been enabled. See page 21 of your iPod's User Guide for instructions on turning it off.

iPod does not play content purchased from the iTMS.
If you have made sure that both the iTunes and iPod software are current and have deauthorized and reauthorized your computer, try this test:
    1. Deauthorize the computer.
    2. Create a new user in the system.
    3. Download the free song of the week from the iTMS in the new user account.
    4. Play the song in that user account to authorize again.
    5. Restore the iPod (using the iPod updater) in the new user account.
    6. Sync just the free song of the week and see if it plays on the iPod.
If it does, you appear to have a corrupted iTunes library file, and you should recreate the iTunes library file in your normal user account, and then sync your music back to the iPod and all should be well.

  • My iPod will not play songs that I've put on it from my computer.

It plays Them on iTunes, but they will not play on my iPod.
It selects the songs, and brings up the screen, and the icon is on play, but the songs do not play.
They're not songs I bought, it's some that I put on my iPod manually from the music I had on my computer.
I've restored it, and tried again, but I don't know why that didn't work.
Please help me! I'm dying of music depravation.

Are they in a format the iPod can play?

  • Songs transferred to Ipod will not play in Itunes and don't show in Ipod

I have had a nano for a good 6+ months and have yet to be able to fill it up with music. Under 200 songs it is a crap shoot whether or not the songs will show up after I eject it. If I load 200+ songs to the Ipod one of two things happen. 1. After ejecting the Ipod none of the songs i loaded show up on it, and after linking it back to the computer, itunes tells me that it must be restored. 2. a good number of songs will not play but are skipped over. The album art shows for a split second and goes to the next song. The next time I plug it into my computer it says that It does not recognize it and forces me to restore it again.
I have done the following among other things.
    1. Repeatedly restored my ipod, this does not help.
    2. Re-installed Itunes and Quicktime.
    3. Loaded only AAC files.
    4. Turned off Spy Sweeper while before plugging in my Ipod and load songs.
    5. Disabled Norton Anti-virus.
    6. Confirmed how I am ejecting it.
    6. Replaced my Ipod once.
    7. Bought a new computer HP Pavillion a1630n.
    8. Invested well over 40 hours of my time trying to get this thing to work.
I have over 200GB of music which and I cannot get much more than 2GB on my 4GB Ipod without a problem. As of this writting I have restored it 6 times, after each time I drag my songs to the Ipod icon, when it is done loading, I press the eject icon next to the IPod and each time I click English-->Music-->Artists--> and after that all I get is All-->All-->Nothing. I plug it back into the computer and have to restore it and start over. I have had the same problem on two Ipods, and two Computers. I want this to work so bad. Help Help Help.

The exact message that I get each time I plug my Ipod back in states, "iTunes cannot read teh contents of the iPod "MILOPOD." Go to the summary tab in iPod preferences and click Restore to restore this iPod to factory settings."
I am continually restoring my Ipod over and over again reducing the number of songs on it over and over until I get lucky enough for the songs to stick. Only about 100 or so will regularly stick. I am now restoring it for the 7th time.

  • My 5th gen ipod will not play in itunes

I have updated my ipod and downloaded the most current itunes software.  I can see all of my songs and playlist but they will not play when selected.

I ran into similar problem. This what worked:
OS: XP (itunes 7.5), iPod - classic
    1. Backup itunes.
    2. Uninstall itunes.
    3. Reboot PC
    4. Reinstall itunes.
    5. Reboot PC
    6. Restore itunes from the Backup (it seems this is not necessary, but these are the steps I did)
    7. Restore ipod
After the above steps - the songs that were skipped earlier play.
    Hope that helps.

  • Ipod will not play itunes music store purchased music

I know this topic has been discussed here before, but i still have yet to find a valid answer, so i figured i'd start another thread to see if anyone has found a solution yet. sorry for the repeat subject.
I have a 30GB ipod (with the 4 buttons above the scroll wheel) which suddenly will not play music which has been purchased from the itunes music store. everything which was imported from CDs plays fine. the songs in question play fine through itunes - both from my library on my G5, as well as from the ipod, so it does not seem to be an authorization problem. i've reset the ipod numerous times, trashed itunes preferences, updated to the latest version of itunes, and updated the ipod itself to the latest software version... all to no avail. when i select an itunes purchased album on the ipod, it simply cycles through, song by song, without playing anything.
I haven't restored the ipod to the factory settings yet, as i would like to avoid doing so because i will loose some music which i previously only had on a now dead ibook (faulty logic board). besides, i know from reading old posts, other people with the same problem have tried this as well, to no avail.
can anyone offer any other help/advice on how to remedy this problem? thanks in advance.

It appears that some songs in the iTunes store that were added to the store since the end of November will not play on 1st generation shuffles. They transfer to the shuffle fine but will not play. These same songs transfer to other iPods and play just fine. Many people are having these problems (see the Apple discussion boards). The only known solution is to burn the tracks to a cd and re-import them into your library (a royal pain in the butt). And, yes, I have tried all of Apple's recommendations and even went through troubleshooting with tech support over the phone. I was told they'd call me in a few days after speaking with their engineers but never heard back from them.
PLEASE contact apple either by the following link:
    http://www.apple.com/support/itunes/musicstore/ipod/
OR by calling the support number:
    1-800-275-2273
Hopefully, with enough complaints, Apple will be forced to correct the problem. It seems to me (and quite a few other people) that something changed on the encryption/the way they are encoding new music in the store that has made the music incompatible with our shuffles.

  • 5th Generation IPOD will not play

Up to this morning everything has been working fine. Today only 6 songs will play out of 25 CD's and 2 video's that have been loaded the past 3 months. When I attempt to play a particular CD, it runs through each playlist song but will not play any of them. I reset the IPOD however, that did not fix the problem.
    Gateway   Windows XP

I have the same problem, with a few additional things- these same files which the iPod just breezes through one by one (and not playing) will not play in iTunes on my computer, either- an exclamation point appears next to the track in the album, and it doesn't offer to have me locate anything.
Ditto for some videos- ! in iTunes next to them when I try to play, and on the iPod when I try to play said videos, the screen goes black for a while and then goes back to the menu I was just at.
Some MP3s work fine, some videos work fine, everything else SEEMS ok.
Answers or better yet, a fix...someone, anyone- PLEASE??!!!?
FYI, GQCOP, I just dumped by files that did this, though there were quite a few. Grrr.

  • My 5th Generation iPod will not play

I've never had any problems with my 5th generation iPod before. Then I went to listen to it, and it will not play sound at all. It looks like it is playing the song, the title is coming up, the timer is running... I skip through songs, forward through songs, go to different playlists.... everything. I can do everything on the ipod, but it will not play any sound. HELP!!?!?!?

The above post is great. That technique called a reset, but it should only take about 5-15 seconds before you see the Apple logo. Much longer then that and there might be something else wrong. And it won't hurt your files at all.
If that doesn't fix your problem, try a different set of earphones. Test them on another device first to make sure their working. Or you can test the earphones you're already using with another stereo to isolate the problem to either the earphones or the iPod.
If it is the iPod that's the problem you can also try to restore your iPod in iTunes. You're iPod will be erased and new software will be loaded.

  • Round icon next to song on ipod will not play

I recently purchased 2 new songs the Apple store that loaded to itunes fine. After sycing, the songs were on my ipod touch but with a round icon (with a small rectangle in the middle) to the right. The songs will not play, and when i attempt to play, the pop up on my ipod says, "Cannot play. Connect to a wifi network to play song". In addition, the new songs are duplicated on my ipond, but not in itunes. The songs play fine on itunes. I have tried deleting all music from my ipod, and re-syncing without a resolve. All the previous songs purchased and synced to my ipod are fine...only the two most recent songs have the issue. I haven't had any problems in the last few years until now. Anyone else have the same issue, and find a resolution? tks

It seems like something is wrong with those song files. They might be missing or corrupted.
Try restoring your iPod, and then putting the music and videos back on your iPod, assuming they are in your iTunes library...

  • Purchased Music on iPod will not play in iTunes

I'm trying Authorize my work computer to play my purchased iTunes songs from my iPod, No Luck. It's just keeps asking to authorize, I authorize then it say it was successful.
Try to play and it asks me again...again...again.

I tried all of these steps, but I'm still not getting the Ipod updater to even recognize that my Ipod is plugged in.
The computer is recognizing that the Ipod is plugged in, and it opens Itunes 5.0 like usual, but after I connected my Ipod to sync for the first time since installing 5.0 it erased like 200 songs off my ipod, and says that
"Some of the songs in the Itunes music library were not copied to the Ipod "My Ipod" because your Ipod software is too old. Go to www.apple.com/ipod to get the latest IPod software update."
every time i try to get those songs back on. I believe the songs it erased are ones I purchased from the Music store.
    Recap:
    1. Ipod is being recognized and can be seen in Itunes.
    2. Itunes says my ipod software is too old to load some songs from my library.
    3. Ipod updater 2005 9_06 will not recognize that my ipod is connected to my computer even though it shows up perfectly on my desktop and in Itunes.
    4. My ipod itself is running just fine, its just missing like 100$ worth of music i purchased : (
