Ipod will not restore crashed during update

ipod crashed on update and will not work. it said to do a restore but I have tryed 2 times and both times the restore didn't work

I just did the install of 2.0.02 last and I had one dickens of a time restoring my library. Here is what happened to me. Right before doing the update it tells you that all of your music, videos etc.. will be removed from the Ipod Touch once the update is done installing. So I found a DVD and burned my library to it. Then I went ahead and did the install. It clean my Ipod Touch clean, but my iTunes library was still intact so I thought all will have to do is resync it but that didn't work. I tried and tried. I disconnected my external HD. Oh yeah by the way this is a new computer that I just bought and last night was the first time I used iTunes on it so I had to populate my library using iGadget.
Anyway, I realized that I didn't have manually manage my iTunes library unchecked I unchecked it and it began to sync the back up copy I had of my library. Did either of you back up your library before installing 2.02? Do you have a place where most of your music is stored outside of iTunes? You cannot have Manually manage library checked it won't restore if you do. Be aware though 96% of my cover art was gone with this restore. How annoying. I don't know if this is the information you were looking for but I hope I have been able to shed some light on the issue.

  • Ipod will not restore or update

My friend came over with her Nano and used it on my computer. When I plugged in my Ipod 80G classic into my computer, it said that it could no longer read the contents of the Ipod and to restore it. However, when I click "ok," it automatically disconnects my Ipod and I cannot get it to restore. I keep getting the message, "cannot read the ipod error 1436." It has erased all of my music off of the Ipod. I have uninstalled and reinstalled Itunes, have updated the drivers, with no luck.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks!

  • IPod will not restore in iTunes

when i turn on my iPod it shows a screen that sais "connect iPod to computer, use iTunes to restore." When i connect the iPod to my computer to restore, it sais there was an unknown error and that it could not restore the iPod. How can i overcome this issue?

I think I'm experiencing a similar problem with my
20GB iPod. The iPod displays the flolder with
exclamation icon. iTunes say the iPod may be
corrupted and needs to be restored. It says it has
completed restore and that all I need to do is plug
it into an external power source but the iPod never
changes over to the wall outlet icon and plugging it
in any way does nothing. I've been unable to use my
iPod for over a month now. I think it has to do with
the latest update from Apple since that is when the
    problem started.
My problems started initially with the upgrade to itunes 7.0. I have tried everytthing I can find on the website to completely uninstall and reinstall to the new version. I even ran the check disk utility to see if the problem was my computer, but I didn't get any notice anything was wrong.
I too am convinced that this has something to do with the corrupted files originally reported after I upgraded from 6x to 7.0. My computer and my ipod(s) have not been the same since. My other computer which never got the upgrade to 7.0, but went straight from 6x to 7.1 has no issues. Ipods can be restored, and disk mode works and I can drag and drop stuff from there into the ipod. However, my main library is on my main computer, where the 6x to 7.0 took place and since then I have been in ipod ****.
I even tried using a working ipod that I restored on the old computer, and trying to move the entire library to the old computer via the ipod, and then sync my ipods with it... but I get either "path too deep" errors or "I/O device" errors when I try to move the library from the main computer to the ipod.
So everytime I restore the ipod on the old computer and everything is kosher, I try to use it on the main computer (with the problems) and I get the restore/reformat/corrupt loops - even though hypothetically the ipod was just restored on the other computer and should be fine, and the itunes software there says everything is up to date, etc.
Every once in a while a restore will take place on the main computer and I think the problem is fixed, but the moment I disconnect it, and reconnect it later, the loop starts over. That and not all my music transfers and I'll have one song of one album I ripped from CD last month, and the whole album of a CD I ripped two years ago. Even stranger I have a song that appears on multiple albums (orginal album, greatest hits, live album) and that song will show up on all those albums (So I have like eight versions of one song) but the rest of the songs from the albums won't show up, or maybe one other will show.
I really don't want to have to go through my CD library and re-grab all my music... but I'm afraid that might be necessary.
I have even tried running a virus scan on the whole computer, with ipod attached to see if that's the problem (Due to the new 80 gig ipod I bought last month, which I thought might have a virus on it), but nothing shows up. Although it did pick up some cookies on it and those were removed.
If anyone has any success fixing this problem let me know. I'm getting sooo... tired.

  • Ipod will not restore but it syncs

Dragged my old 2nd gen 8gb Touch out... Software is 2.2.1 (5H11A). Manufactured 2009. It will sync and xfer music, vids, etc. but will not "Update" to new software (which iTunes says is available for it), nor will it restore. I just get a (-1) error message. I just restored my other Touch (1st Gen which already had current software) and that went fine. I even went in and deleted all backups just in case. Anyone have a clue?

Put the hold switch to the OFF/White position. Now toggle it ON/orange then back off again. Then press and hold both the MENU and center buttons on the iPod and hold them for a good 10 seconds or so. Your iPod should reboot starting with the Apple Logo screen.
If it doesn't work the first time, give it a second or third go. Sometimes it takes a few tries.

  • 20GB iPod will not restore

I have tried everything I can find. Most of the time iTunes is not locating the iPod but twice it has and once it attempted to restore and failed because the iPod is stuck in this loop...
when i plug my ipod in to my computer the apple logo comes up then the folder icon with an exclamation point then a few seconds later it says do not disconnect.....well about ten seconds later the apple logo pops up again.....
I have tried to put the iPod into disk mode for the restore but once plugged in it repeats the above cycle and will not remain in disk mode. Any other suggestions would be very appreciated. The iPod also appears in My Computer and then leaves again within this cycle. Please help!!!

Somehow he has come back to life. I kept trying everything I could find, could not change the drive letter because the ipod kept appearing then disappearing from the USB port and windows as it kept cycling through the steps. Then I tapped it against the desk on its side and suddenly it appears in iTunes and even went through the software update and by some miracle everything is even still there even though it spent most of the week in disk mode since that was the only way it would charge in the wall. It may be a fluke since it's friday the 13th but the problem is solved for now...

  • Ipod will not restore in disc mode

I tried the steps listed in ipod support to unfreeze my mini. The icons shift from the apple logo, to file error, to do not disconnect. When I tried to restore it in disc mode, I got a message on my PC that said, "Can't mount ipod." Does this mean that the actual ipod hardware is damaged and cannot be fixed through the common methods?

    Try...
    1. Disconnect iPod
    2. Reset (Menu/Center button)
    3.0 Release Menu/Center button
3.1 When Apple shows up, press Center button and
    Play/Pause button (right after reset).
    4. Display switches to the diskmode.
    5. Connect USB.
At which point, the PC and was able to RESTORE from
    the updater..
I followed those steps, I was in disc mode and then connected USB to computer, and the ipod updater program gave a message entitled: "Can't mount ipod", so the RESTORE option was not highlighted, and I couldn't use it.

  • New Classic iPod will not restore and can't eject from iTunes.

    Hi everybody.
I just bought a new 160 GB Classic a week ago and promptly attached it to my Windows based laptop and installed the newest firmware.
I can add shows and songs to it with no problems, but if I do, I can NOT then eject the iPod from iTunes. It says that it is being used (it's not). The iPod itself says that it is "Synchronizing" despite the fact that I have NOTHING checked to synchronize (I disabled them all).
The only way I can eject at this point is to use the Windows function of "Safely Remove Hardware". However, if I simply connect the iPod to my computer and do NOT do anything with it (ie; transfer a song, etc.) it will allow me to eject.
No matter what, when I connect my iPod to iTunes I can never Restore it. I get Error Message 1418.
When I called Apple Care they had me go and replace it but the second one does the exact same thing.
I am just wondering if any other Windows users are experiencing the same thing before I go crazy.
Again, I have the latest firmware and the latest version of iTunes.
    Thanks.

1a. Your PC can read iTunes, but for some strange reason, it just ignores your iPod. You have:
    a) Reset the iPod (back to factory settings)
    b) Reset the ipod, by flicking the top slider on the iPod on and off, then pressing 'Menu and 'Centre button'
    for 6 secondish. let go!
    b) Downloaded upto date iTunes onto your pc...
    c) spent hours entering all your tracks into your library
    ....and then nothing!
Works ok on the pc ok, but dead on the ipod.
    TRY THE FOLLOWING:
1b. a) Delete iTunes from you 'Control Panel' (click on Add & Remove Software).
Note: Make sure you delete everything to do with the Apple iPod, this is very important. (I just deleted
iTunes, and believe me you will be there for days..get rid of all of it and start a fresh).
    b) Reboot your pc...
    c) Plug in your iPod....it should now work.
Note: If still not working, try an earlier version of iTunes e.g Ver. 7.4.3.1
    READ FIRST:
2a. Somestimes people have problems with iTunes because of the clash with Microsoft Media Player.
    a) All you need to do is uninstall Media Player from your PC and reboot your system.
    b) Load the Latestest iTunes from the iTune & Apple site http://www.apple.com/itunes/
    c) Reboot your PC iTunes, it should now work.
However, like me if you want the best of both worlds and want Media Player, you can re-install Media Player.
Personally I use Ver. 10 - it works ok with iTunes and it has majority of functions as Ver. 11 but without the
registering via redtape as they introduced with ver.11
Note: As long as you install iTunes first and then Media Player you should be ok - Media player has a sub-routine
in its programming to dominate other players - and therefore causes you problems, without telling you why....'Nice One Bill Gates!'
but if say, you have installed iTunes FIRST then for the sub-routine seems to ignore it....strange huh!
Try it....what have you got to lose?
