IPod will not shut off
Just yesterday I realized that I my IPod wasn't turning off when I pressed down on the bottom buttons. I tried running a diagnostic and it said everything was okay. I really don't think that it is a software problem, I am starting to wrry it may be hardware. Has this happened to anyone else? If so what did you do?

IPod will not shut off, or perform any of the 5 R's
My iPod will not shut off, or perform any of the 5 R's. The screen is illuminated with no logo's at all. I try to reset the ipod with menu and select buttons and it beeps after 7-10 secs. This happened when i inadvertantely unplugged the ipod while trying to upgrade. I thought the upgrade had stopped or was having a problem. Can someone please help before i have a very expensive 60 gig frisbee!!!
Try to set it to Disk Mode, and re-do de restore.

my ipod will not shut off. any suggestioins?
No you are CLEARLY not alone. BUT, PLEASE do not get sidetracked with superflouous issues. It does not matter what you used to synch your iPod nor does it matter how you connected; when you bought it; or any of 5 million other distractions. The point is (believe me I've DONE the research and if you don't believe me, feel free to read ALL of the Google entires!) after you synch your nano (and also your 5th Gen Video iPod) you will NOT be able to turn it off the normal way. If you try to play a podcast at this point it will likely freeze your Nano (but that's a whole NEW thread with another giga-thousand people upset with a lack of response...) IF you mash the Menu and Center buttons you can reset the unit and likely gain control over it again. If that makes you happy - go for it. As far as I am concerned, this is NOT an answer. I want a fix. How about you?

Ipod touch 2nd generation (works fine), but will not shut off
my ipod touch 2nd gneration works fine, but it will not shut off. This use to work: I would hold down both top and face button for about 10 seconds and it would shut down. Now nothing happens no matter how long I hold those 2 buttons down. Any suggestions?
Try:
- Reset the iOS device. Nothing will be lost
Reset iOS device: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
- Reset all settings
Go to Settings > General > Reset and tap Reset All Settings.
All your preferences and settings are reset. Information (such as contacts and calendars) and media (such as songs and videos) aren’t affected.
- Restore from backup. See:
iOS: Back up and restore your iOS device with iCloud or iTunes
- Restore to factory settings/new iOS device.
If still problem, make an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store since it appears you have a hardware problem.

My ipod touch will not shut off. lock up
My ipod touch will not shut off. It is just a black screen with the time dial turning. It does not do anything. How can I get it to do something?
Try:
- iOS: Not responding or does not turn on
- Also try DFU mode after try recovery mode
How to put iPod touch / iPhone into DFU mode « Karthik's scribblings
- If not successful and you can't fully turn the iOS device fully off, let the battery fully drain. After charging for an least an hour try the above again.
- Try on another computer
- If still not successful that usually indicates a hardware problem and an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store is in order.

Ipod Classic will not shut off
Ipod classic will not shut off. Have held menu/select until apple logo appears, no change
Menu/Select is to reset the device, not turn it off. You need to press and hold the Play/Pause button until the display turns off. Then activate the hold switch.

IPod does not shut off (? firewire problem ?)
My Ipod does not shut-off and I don't wan't any of the "have you trouble shooted" have you restarted your iPod"....yes and yes I have done all the troubleshooting and have restored my ipod. It says
"FireWire connections are not supported. To transfer songs, connect the USB cable provided.
Press Center to Dismiss"
It says that on my iPod not on iTunes andI am connected to USB and I'm not even completly sure what a firewire port is and yes I do press eject everytime im done using iTunes and take out my iPod....I'm Stumped1. Try a different USB port on your computer.
2. If that doesn't work, try a different cable to connect your iPod,
3. If the above two steps do not work, check the connector on the bottom of your iPod and make sure there are no bent pins. -

HT201401 My home button does not respond and the phone will not shut off
Has anyone had a similar problem where the phone will not shut off and the home button does not respond
You should try taking it to the Apple Store and asking for a replacement.
Or you could enable Assistive Touch from Settings>General>Accessibility. -
Original iPad will not shut off

Reset iPad
Hold down the Sleep/Wake button and the Home button at the same time for at least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears
Note: Data will not be affected. -
IPod will not come off of lock
For whatever reason my iPod will not come off of lock even if it's not in the lock position. Since lock won't come off obviously I can't listen to my iPod or restart it. It charges perfectly fine when I hook it up to my mac. I restored it and it still won't get off of lock. I have no idea why it isn't working. Help would be greatly appreciated.
I agree with the person who said to flip the switch back and forth 10-12 times....
but your hold switch assembly could be on the way out if this issue persists.... -
Samsung Brightside will not shut off.
My Samsung brightside will not shut off. Have to remove battery. Did master reset to no avail. Charging port is clean and never exposed phone to water. HELP!
Hello Four_Soups,
That is incredibly strange! I'm so sorry your son is having this issue. I will be delighted to check into this and see what we can do.
I checked my resources and I didn't see any other recorded reports of this same issue. I truly appreciate you trying to reboot the phone as I would have suggested this as well.
Since you've already completed that step, I would ensure all of his personal information is backed up such as contacts and media (pictures, etc) and reset his phone:

Please let us know how this worked out!

Try a Reset of the Phone... You will Not Lose Any Data...
Turn the Phone Off...
Press and Hold the Sleep/Wake Button and the Home Button at the Same Time...
The Apple logo will Appear and then Disappear...
Usually takes about 10 - 15 Seconds...

Creating an O/R layer with TopLink from Ant or a script
