IPod will only eject once ~ Grrrrrrrrrr!

I don’t know what’s going on with my little 60G 5th. I know I’ve read several-posted question regarding this topic but none seem to help me.
The disk-enabled box is not checked.
I’ve tried to uninstall the device and then reboot, waiting until iTunes opens (even tried to reload a fresh copy of iTunes), and then connecting. The first time around it works great, but then when I set up the photo options (or don't) it all turns to mud on the second attempt.
I’ll be completely honest. I did check the disk use box once, but then unchecked it…and ever since it’s been a nightmare. I just hate it when something like this just all of the sudden “happens”.
I’ve tried disabling firewalls, virus protection…I’ve tried everything I could think of—it’s now 7 hours later and my wife has about had it with me. Do you think it’s something hidden deep within some code that once you check that darn disk enable box that it doesn’t ever “uncheck”?
Help…can someone help me disconnect my iPod and reconnect with my iSpouse? (Actually I can handle the later…but any suggestions are welcome.)
Thanks.

Yes. Now that I’ve had a moment to allow my mind to clear…
What it is doing is following the normal protocol when I update the first time. The bell rings, the updating begins…and then it states that the updating is complete and that I can disconnect my iPod.
What it *is not* doing is, after I do any further updating/changes and then try to update the iPod: I connect the iPod. The updating begins…seems to run normally and then where it would normally end, the screen on the iPod will “flash” into the normal mode (as opposed to the don’t disconnect screen) and then return to the don’t disconnect screen, run for a good 90 seconds and then iTunes states the update is complete but doesn’t mention anything about removing the iPod. …and then I get the, what seems classic from all the posts I read, cannot remove device because it is used by other programs. I can’t remove it in iTunes. I can’t remove it through Windows. When I try to shut down the whole system locks on the shutdown screen…then I’m basically pulling the plug on the whole thing. When I reboot. Same thing. The initial marriage between iTunes and iPod ends in bliss…then the second attempt falls to pieces. It all started when I inadvertently checked the enable disk use, read the warning, and then canceled. I never actually enabled it…but just clicking that little box seemed to make everything go haywire.

  • IPod will only sync once

I have last gen iPod, and sometimes I have a problem syncing it to iTunes. It will sync once, either after I start iTunes or when I plug the iPod in, but after that it won't sync if I choose that option in iTunes. In iTunes 7 I get a message that the "iPod Update Failed," but this happened in the previous version of iTunes too.
Before some wise-*** says "just unplug it and plug it in again," yes, that will let it sync again, but I can never change the settings or the playlists it syncs to because you can only change those after the initial sync.
I have tried different USB ports, I have restarted the computer, I have restored the software, etc. Sometimes the problem goes away, but it always comes back. Can anyone help me?

This is a known issue, and there are other threads in the iPod forums on this. Apple does know about it. Only workaround right now is to set for "Enable Disk Use" while it is doing it's first sync. Just remember, you must manually eject the iPod when in this mode.
You can also quit and re-launch iTunes to get another sync. (that is what I do)
    Thanks, Scott K.

Just what do you mean by " but it will only reset once it connects to a WiFi source."?
If it it says turn off FIndMyiPhone then:
Place the iOS device in Recovery Mode and then connect to your computer and restore via iTunes. The iPod will be erased.

My 30-pin dock is connected to my lightning to 30-pin connector which is connected to my iPod touch 5g. But my iPod will only charge, and will not play music through my dock, only through the iPod's internal speaker. Help please!

Have you tried resetting both the iPod and dock? To reset the iPod, press and hold the Sleep/Wake and Home buttons together long enough for the Apple logo to appear.
To reset the dock, unplug it and plug it back in.

The battery is possibly unable to take as much power as a normal battery. It may need a replacement battery.

I created a new library so I can use it for just my music, but now my ipod will only sync to my old library and not the new one I created, even though I'm in the new library when I open itunes.  Any solutions?

The point is that there are four i product users for one computer in my house, and not everyone wants the same music on their device.  Like I said before, the ipod is not syncing to the new library even though I plug it in when the new itunes library is pulled up.  It keeps syncing to the old library...

  • Ipod will only mount through USB

could anyone please tell me why my ipod will only mount and update with the USB cable, and not the firewire as it used to. it won't mount on the desktop or the new laptop (c/w Tiger) this way but seems fine through USB. Is using the USB a one way road?

... not sure. I have had trouble before. Turned out to be a "bad" firewire port. Others have reported that switching Firewire cables helped.
We can either try to figure it out ... or we could suggest uyou just reset everything. The latter is often easier.
This is in order of difficulty, I think:
    1. Reset several times - http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=61705
    2. Check the iPod directory - with your ipod disconnected, open iTunes and set the iPod preference tab to Manual. Quit iTunes, connect your iPod, and if iTunes opens, quit it again. Open Disk Utility (Applications/Utilities folder). iPod should show up in list of drives on the left. Select the iPod and click "Repair".
    3. Delete the iPodDriver.kext file:http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=61937
    4. Since you have a back-up of your music, open Updater and Restore your iPod - this will reformat it so your music (on the iPod) will be lost. It will be replaced when you resync it with iTunes.
    5. Reset your USB and Firewire ports - you might run a check to see if you get the same behavior using a different port. To reset the ports, go here:

One of those should do it.

  • My IPod   will only  play the same song in the playlist. What is  happening?

My Ipod  will only play one song (over and over) in  a play list. It was workig fine and then  all of a sudden it continues to repeat. Please  help.
    Rita

Go to settings on the ipod itself and make sure on the option Repeat, it doesn't say "One". If it does, click on it until it's says "All" or "Off" - depending on what you prefer. If it isn't on repeat, reset it -if you haven't already; but that's usually everyone's first instinct when there's a problem so I assume you already have. If none of this works, you may have to restore it. If restoring it is something you want to leave as an absolute last resort, go to an apple store or something and ask a professional.
    Hope this helps

  • My ipod will only show the dead battery screen and wont taking a charge.

my ipod will only show the dead battery screen and wont taking a charge on any of my sinc cords or my outlet charger. And I have checked that nothing is in the plug port blocking the electrodes. What do I do now?

Put the device in DFU mode (google it) and restore via iTunes.

all of a sudden my ipod will only hold a charge for an hour

Strange, but if it's under a yr. old, you should still have a warranty on it, and Apple can replace it for you.

  • IPod will only play songs from one album

  • IPod will only play "legit" songs after Vista upgrade

    iPod 80 GB
    Windows Vista Business
    iTunes 7.1.1
Ever since I upgraded to Vista, my iPod will only play songs I personally ripped from CD's or bought from iTunes.
I do have songs downloaded from other sources (friend's bands sites) and the ipod starts to play them for one second and then the "time bar" goes fully blue and the song doesn't play.
It took me a full restore and reload to figure out that it was only the downloaded songs that wouldn't play.
    Thanks in advance.

Quite a number of people have had similar issues because the songs are MP3/AAC using VBR (variable bit rate) and the VBR tags are not correct.

My iPod will only work in disc mode, when i take it off of disc mode it appears with the apple sign but nothing else -
    help please.

Yes a Restore will erase your iPod. But this shouldn't be an issue since you obviously must have your music in your iTunes library or backed up somewhere else, RIGHT????? After all, it would be silly to have all your music on just the iPod and no where else, RIGHT?
