IPod will sync but takes nothing on

iPod will sync but phtos, apps, music etc. wont. All the right boxes appear to be ticked. I have tried a million things but so far the undoutedly obvious solution evades me. iTunes does my head in.

Okay, I believe I have found a reliable fix.
There is pain involved, however
On a Mac, one can hold down "Option" and click on the iTunes icon to bring up a dialog box allowing the user to choose a new library or to create a new library. I created a new library in a different location than my original and was then able to use iTunes's "Add to Library" option under the File menu to recover my purchases. Unfortunately I lost all of my metadata, including play counts, but I am now able to sync my iPod once again.
It looks to me as though the upgrade to iTunes 10.5 corrupted part of the library database in a way that isn't recoverable. Creating a new library and starting over seems to be the fix.
I hope this works for you. According to this Apple support doc (http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1589) if you're on Windows, launching iTunes while holding down <shift> accomplishes the same thing as the  <option> trick I used on my Mac.
Best of luck!

  • Ipod will sync but

My ipod now does something I have never seen before. It syncs okay but itunes has to be closed to start with. I plug in the ipod and windows first will recognize it as removable disk. I can minimize this and it will sync most of the time. Is there something I can do about this?

unfortunatly no, my old G4 died, so I got this new MacBook and my boyfriend has a MacBook as well. thanks though. I would have thought that the new MacBooks would charge thru the USB ports. Is there an easy place to go online and check for this feature?

  • IPod will sync, but works slowly and eventually freezes

5th gen. black video ipod about 1.5 years old. use it daily, then one day i was shuffling and it froze. i reset using Menu & Center buttons, then got error message to restore w/ iTunes.
restored w/ iTunes, tried to use. worked slowly and eventually froze. reset again and it erased everything.
tried to restore again and it wouldn't sync.
downloaded newest iTunes and restored. went to play, shuffle worked slowly again (stall when i would skip songs), eventually froze. when i reset music wasn't erased, but still worked slowly.
received a tip about registering dll files or something. tried that...
tried restoring again. got the following error message:
"iTunes has detected an iPod that appears to be corrupted. You may need to restore this iPod before it can be used with iTunes. You may also try disconnecting and reconnecting the iPod."
tried to restore and got the following message:
"The iPod “iPod” cannot be restored because it contains files that are in use by another application."
no idea what to do now. is my iPod broken?

What antispyware/antivirus software are you using? Make sure your preferences are set not to can iPods and, while restoring, not to scan external storage devices, then Restore your iPod.

Provided the music plays in iTunes on the computer
    Try:
    - Reset the iOS device. Nothing will be lost
Reset iOS device: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Unsync/delete all music and resync
To delete all music go to Settings>General>Usage>Storage>Music>Tap edit in upper right and then tap the minus sign by All Music
    - Reset all settings
Go to Settings > General > Reset and tap Reset All Settings.
All your preferences and settings are reset. Information (such as contacts and calendars) and media (such as songs and videos) aren’t affected.

If I go from 'Devices' to Summary and then Music, I only get one option-Sync Music,There is a box on this page but the options within it are grayed out. If I tick the Sync Music option I get this message-
'Are you sure you want to remove existing music, films, ect, from this ipod and sync with this itunes library?
'Music synced to (my ipods name) from other itunes libraries will be removed and items will be synced from this itunes library' I have only ever used itunes on this PC and the 'Manually manage music and videos' is ticked but
that must be a default setting as I haven't ticked it.

  • 2nd Gen Ipod will sync with itunes but will not download new song

My Ipod will sync with itunes but will not download newly purchased songs.  It is Ipod nano 2nd gen.

If you want to use automatic syncing, you may need to set up or update the iPod's Music sync settings in iTunes.  If the new songs are not included in what gets synced to the iPod, they will not sync.
If the sidebar (along left side of window) is hidden, from the menu bar, under View, select Show Sidebar.  The iPod appears in the sidebar, under DEVICES.  Select it there, to show its Summary screen to the right.  Toward the top, there is a bar of buttons, starting with Summary.  Click on Music next to Summary.  This Music screen is where you tell iTunes how to sync songs to the iPod.
Check the box for Sync Music, if not already checked. This is the "switch" to enable automatic syncing for songs.
NOTE:  If Sync Music is not already checked, that means the iPod is currently set to Manually manage music.  Setting up automatic syncing will replace the iPod existing content.  If you want to add the new songs manually to the iPod (instead of using automatic syncing), please post back.
If your iTunes library fits on the iPod, you can choose the option to sync Entire music library.  Otherwise, choose the option to sync Selected playlists, artists, albums, and genres.  Below that, select (checkmark) what you want to sync to the iPod from the lists.
One convenient way to set this up is to first create one or more playlists in your iTunes library, with ALL of the songs you want on the iPod.  Or you can use existing playlists.  Back on the iPod's Music screen in iTunes, select those playlists under Playlists.
When you click Apply, iTunes syncs the songs in your selection(s) to the iPod (replacing its existing content).  Going forward, to update the iPod, you can just update those playlists in your iTunes library (add/remove songs).  If you have new songs, add them to a playlist that is synced to the iPod.  The iPod does not need to be connected.  The next time you connect the iPod (or click Sync if already connected), iTunes automatically updates your iPod with the same changes.

    or

However, after your remove the Apple software components also remove the iCloud Control Panel via Windows Programs and Featurs appin the Window Control Panel. Then reinstall all the Apple software components
    - New cable and different USB port
    - Run this and see if the results help with determine the cause

If you can resolve #1 and still get same message for #1 then you have to restore the iPod like the message says.

  • My ipod is showing a red circle with a red "X" in it. Itunes tells me it will prepare my ipod for recovery but does nothing, why?

    I have a ipod classic, 160gb.
My ipod is showing a red circle with a red "X" in it. Itunes tells me it will prepare my ipod for recovery but does nothing, why?
My computer is a Inspiron 530S using Windows Vista, duo core.

All you can do is try restoring the device. If you are unable to you'll most likely have to get the iPod repaired.

  • Ipod will sync up once then says cannot read or write to disk.

Is this normal? The IPOD shows up in Itunes after the first sync but when I go and try to update the ipod again it says it cannot read or write to disk. Tech support says this is normal but it does not make any sense as the IPOD still shows up in Itunes.

the IPOd will sync up when I fiorst plug it in. the problem is when it is finished, Itunes says ipod update complete you can disconnect. I leave it connected, and if I try to update the ipod again after I download something or whatever into Itunes it comes back with the cannot read from or write to disk. I can unplug it and plug it back in and it work sfine. There is something with the software I guess that is not staying connected with the hardware after the first sync.

My latest problem is that the Apple site will not recognize my equipment by it's serial number.  I know the mini is old, but I like what it did for me and don't necessarily want to "upgrade".

This is the iPad in the Enterprise forum. You'll be more likely to get help with your issue if you ask in the appropriate iPod forum.

  • I am having trouble downloading a whole playlist to my phone. Parts of the playlist will sync but there are still a lot of songs that won't. I have plenty of space to hold this playlist as far as I can see. Any help is appreciated.

I agree. I don't rely on iCloud as a backup, that is what I have my portable hard drive for. Its 500 GB so I can hold my entire iTunes library several times over on it. I have all my movies on my hard drive, but somehow "The Mist" got deleted off of my hard drive, so I figured "Well, the option to redownload an already purchased movie is available through iCloud, I'll just do that!"
And permissions and download availability have nothing to do with it, the movie's still there, it still allows me to redownload it. The only problem is when I click download, I get that message.
And nobody else uses my computer, but I do have multiple accounts authorized on it. Even still though, I am attepmpting to download it through the account I purchased it under. :/

  • Ipod will charge, but is not found

Hello, I have had my Ipod Mini since march of this year(2005) and it has been working great up until about a few months ago. My Ipod will charge but is not recognized on the computer, and I have tried it in every one of my USB 2.0 slots(10 of them).
When it is recognized sometimes it will update the songs onto my Ipod and then it will just disappear from my computer, like its not connected, but it will still charge. What I want is for when I open "My Computer" it will show that a Ipod is connected and I can open if from there. If anyone has any suggestions, they would be welcomed. And yes, I have tried every one of the support things on the site and in my Ipod booklet.

Ive restarted my computer many times and its still the same, it only works about 15% fo the time, and when it does rihgt when it finishes updating it will act like its not there anymore.

@MikeNTxs - 64bit USB drivers have been available since April of 2010, and they do work. I've synced successfully to my Vista64 bit laptop many times via USB.
