Ipod windows and mac

It is possible to use ipod nano both itunes in mac and in windows if I have two pc with different operation system?
TK

Hello DesoDad, welcome to discussions.
There's two ways you can do this.
1. Format the iPod using the iPod Updater on the Windows XP machine. This will make the iPod Windows-formatted, and it can be used on a Mac or a Windows machine.
The downside to this is that performance will suffer on your Mac. Transfers and mounting times will be slower and longer.
2. Keep the iPod formatted for Mac. Since Windows cannot read an HFS+ volume natively, you'll install third-party software on the Windows machine (such as MacDrive) which will allow a Windows machine to read/write to a Mac formatted volume.
The downside to this option is cost and stability. MacDrive is not free, and who knows how Windows will behave in the long run.
Here's an article from Apple regarding using your ipod on multiple machines:

  • Help please with ipods dock windows and mac based

    Hello everyone,
I have an ipod but want to upload from two different locations. I found out from a reply from a previous question that I can do that but my problem seems to be that I have a windows based laptop at home but at my other location in my office I am using a Mac. From what I read I can not do this from one location to the other without reformating my ipod everytime which would be useless to me sense I do not have the same music or do all of my purchases from one location. Is this possible to upload from a windows and mac computer from two different locations or is this impossible? Thanks in advance!!!

Probably the easiest way to use an iPod on both Mac and Windows computers is to format the iPod (using iPod Updater) using the PC. This will force your iPod to use the Windows file system (FAT32) which both the Mac and PC can read from and write to without the help of additional software. Of course then all your software updates for the iPod will have to be done on Windows.

If you need to use a Mac (HFS+) formatted iPod on a Windows PC, you'll need to install some 3rd party software such as XPlay 2.0 (which you can get from MediaFour Software). This will enable your Windows PC to read a Mac-formatted iPod.
    Then see this.

  • Want to use a Lacie External Hard Disk with Windows and Mac? Can I?...

Hi, I've just purchased a Lacie Extreme D2 external hard disk, I'm looking to use it to move film clips from my Mac G5 to my Sony Vaio laptop. I'll connect the Mac using Firewire 1 and the PC using USB 1.
I understand there is an issue with setting the compaitibility of the hard disk to either Mac or Windows format but I'm wondering if I can set it to both, so it's possible to transfer these files? The hard disk is Windows and Mac compatible but does it have to be partitioned a certain way?
    Any help is much appreciated.
    Thanks,
    Alex

Format the drive as FAT or use the Mac format (HFS Extended) and install MacDrive on the PC.

  • Silent print a PDF from a web page using Flex. We are targeting Windows and Mac with Arcobat reader installed

We are planning to Silent print a PDF from a web page using Flex. We are targeting Windows and Mac with Arcobat reader installed. I have tried using the AIR appliaction and it worked, But our requirement is NO INSTALL to the user machine for the silent printing. It is just from web page and silent printing to the default printer to the desktop/Laptop. Can anyone share your thoughts and experience with us. It will be very helpful..
For AIR : I tried the thread Re: AIR and PDF showing/silent printing

    Hey CodeMonkey & Ross,
Did you either of you ever find a solution? I'm stuck too, it seems I can get remote printing on all these PDFs to work but it just prints a blank page since I've been using Javascript in the browser, not Adobe's (they are Engineering drawings that I do not have permission to edit so I can't just insert code into them but I need to make work instructions). I've been scouring the internet for hours now, it seems that this thread is the only relevant/useful one at this point. No one else was trying to achieve this for similar reasons to mine.
    Thanks guys,
    Lox

  • ITunes 9 - Using 'Home Sharing' between Windows and Mac libraries

I have my main iTunes music library stored on my Windows 7 PC. It is currently around 200Gb in size, so pretty large.
I want to be able to use 'Home Sharing' in iTunes 9 to access this library on my Macbook over my home wireless network.
I don't, however, want to copy the music files themselves over to this laptop, but simply access the library over the network, and play them via either iTunes 9 or Front Row.
I would appear that the Windows and Mac 'iTunes Library' xml files are incompatible. I can't 'Alias' the Windows library on the MacBook for this reason. Does 'Home Sharing' eliminate this problem? Is there a way of accessing the library on the Windows PC without copying all of the files over to the MacBook?
I want to maintain a single library (which is often changing with new podcasts etc), rather than 2 libraries which I have to keep in sync.
Does anybody have any ideas on this one? I'm sure I am not alone in having this problem.
    Here's hoping...:)

i have one apple id, but the family all have ipods, imac and mac book connected to  this account. how do i face time from one device to another?

    Hello chlanli
You would need to use one Apple ID for purchases in order to get them across all of your devices and computer. If you want you can use one Apple ID for purchases and the other one to sync personal data. The article below will explain further.

  • Share iTunes libraries between Windows and MAC

Hi all i've an wifi via "Base AirPort" i've an HD shared between MAC and Windows sistem via the BASE, the iTunes library that i've stored in the HD is non redable for iTunes on Windows because it need an *.itl file...
How can i share an iTunes library between Windows and MAC???

I would like to report back that after struggling for months to get Tune Ranger to work that it is complete rubbish. The first time I tried to sync my libraries (between an empty iTunes library and my existing one) it created duplicates all over the place in my library and generally made a huge mess of everything. The support person (who I suspect is the only person over there) gave me some guff about my id3 tags being corrupt but it was clear that every song that appeared in a playlist was getting duped. Once I fixed this (many weeks later) I tried a one way sync after fiddling with the preferences of Tune Ranger to try to make it work, but it simply wouldn't.
I don't know if anyway has had success using TR where they are also trying to sync playlists, but if you have, I would certainly like to know what you settings are.

  • Portable Hard drive formating for use with windows and mac operating system

Just bought a verbatim sure fire 500g 800 firewire portable hard drive for my new macbook pro. I have not did bootcamp yet because I am deciding on wether to use Vista or the new windows 7 that will be coming out soon. The drive is already formated HFS+, how do I format the drive so I can write both windows and mac files to it. Help!!!

how do I format the drive so I can write both windows and mac files to it.
Either format it to MS-DOS from the DIsk Utility, or install a tool such as MacDrive into Windows and keep the drive in its current format, or install the NTFS-3G driver into Mac OS X and format the drive to NTFS in Windows.

  • Can i use exfat format for my external western digital harddrive so that i can use in both windows and mac?

can i use exfat format for my external western digital harddrive so that i can use in both windows and mac?
    thanks in advance.
    <Email Edited by Host>

Yes you can. OS X version 10.6.6 and later can read/write exFAT. Windows XP SP3 and later can read/write exFAT. As posted by Radiation Mac, you can do it from Windows or from OS X.
However, I've noticed Windows to be somewhat picky about drives formatted on a Mac. So, if Windows can't read it, try formatting it on the Windows machine, and see how it works on the Mac.

  • Use external drive for windows and mac

    Hello,
I just bought a external 320Gb Western Digital Drive. I would like to use
the drive for windows and mac.I will not like to make partation on the drive
to use it on both operating systems. Is there any formating system with which i can use in both operating systems? I would like to use time machine feature on that drive also.
    Thanx.

If you want to use a disk for both PC/Mac file storage and Time Machine, you will have to create two partitions. Partitioning is sort of like creating multiple virtual disks on the same physical disk. One partition should be formatted for PC (which the Mac can also use) and the other should be formatted for HFS+ (Mac only) which is what Time Machine requires. The Disk Utility application makes partitioning and formatting very easy.

  • Need to open word document from flash projector on Windows and Mac

    Hello,
I'm creating a flash program that will be put on a dvd. And the dvd should function well on both windows and mac.
I'm trying to open a word document on click of a button. I used geturl but it works only on windows but on mac it only opens a blank browser.
This is urgent and would be really grateful if I get any help to resolve this problem
    Thanks,
    Sunira

I kind of doubt you could get Safari to open MS Office files. Short of actually getting MS Office for the Mac, the most workable option might be to get NeoOffice/J (a Mac-friendly version of OpenOffice from http://www.planamesa.com/neojava/en/index.php. It won't display some Office files 100% correctly (depending on how complex they are) but it can open and save them.

  • For printer LaserJet Professional CM1410 any chance to set printing password for windows and MAC

    Dear All
for printer  LaserJet Professional CM1410 any chance to set printing password for windows and MAC?please help?

What Windows OS are you using?  Are you networked?
If you are networked, you have to setup your file and print sharing options in order to require password assess.  If you are just trying to control specific files from being printed, you can do that, too.
If you are just trying to control the amount of printing off of a single PC with a printer, you could setup different accounts for each user and limit their access.
Some of the commercial printers can have password options, but I do not find any password options for the CM 1410, other than what I provided earlier.
If I have been helpful, a Kudo is always appreciated.

  • Can I access both platforms, window and mac with one cloud account

can I access both platforms, window and mac with one cloud account

    Yes.
    One Cloud membership = 2 software activations: Win/Win or Mac/Mac or Win/Mac.

"Are there any unique benefits that come with my paid membership?
Yes, as a member of Creative Cloud, you get many benefits that you do not get when you purchase a traditional shrinkwrapped product:
Access to both the Mac OS and Windows® versions of the desktop applications and the ability to install them on your primary computer and one backup computer. So, if you have a Mac at home and a PC at work, you can install your applications on both as long as they are not running at the same time. • I installed Windows and Mac OS

I installed Windows and Mac OS
have installed on my macbook, windows 7 and Mac OS, but the Mac does not work, I tried to access it several times but nothing happens. I need help. Please.

My first guess is that the Windows was installed over MacOS. Then, you will need to reinstall MacOS using the recovery CDs included in your MacBook purchase.
Second option is that both operating systems are installed correctly, and you need to tell the computer to boot from a specific drive at startup.
