Ipod windows xp itunes

I have a PC running Windows XP sp2. iTunes was already installed but it couldn't identify my iPod, iPod touch, and iphone4.
iTunes couldn't be updated due to it required windows XP with SP 3.
Windows couldn't update due to Microsoft no longer supports XP.
So I thought I'd uninstall iTunes and reinstall it !!!!
When I go to iTunes installer it runs but comes up with iTunes wasn't installed it requires Windows XP with SP 3..........
Where can I find a older version of iTunes that I can download and will install on my current PC ???????
PLEASE HELP, Thank You !!!!

  • ITunes freezes, can't update ipod, windows and itunes doesn't see my pod

I have a 2nd gen Ipod with the really sensitive buttons under the screen and whenever I try to plug my ipod into my PC w/xp nothing good happens. It used to be fine about a month ago and now its screwing up. I never dropped it or did anything bad to it.
    I plug it in.
I get a windows error message in the bottom right that says "this blah blah blah has malfunctioned and windows can not recognize it"
That message soon goes away and windows makes that little ding sound.
After that iTunes just freezes up. I cant minimize it, play songs, or do anything. completely frozen.
My Computer doesnt even see it.
The ipod flashes "do not disconnect" until I unplug it.
When I unplug it itunes starts working after a couple seconds.
Sometimes it will completely drain the battery right after I charge it fully and it will reset itself and stay off.
    anybody know whats goin on?
Ive done pretty much everything on this website to fix it and nothing.
    2nd Gen   Windows XP

Are you sure that there is no way to change the
    format?
I never said there wasn't a way to change the
    format.
To change the format, select it in iTunes on the Mac
    and select Restore.
I am having a similar issue with my daughters ipod nano. It was formatted for windows when we bought it (we have the songs on a mac) but it only downloads some of her library not all. Having looked in some of the forums it suggests restoring however when we plug the ipod into the mac the button for restoring the ipod to factory settings is not highlighted. In this case how can the ipod be restored to a mac setting? We are using the latest itunes software and OSX operating system.

  • See "iPod" Songs in iTunes but can't save them in Library or Music Folder!

My apologies in advance, folks, I'm a newbie to the Discussions.
Initially had loaded my iTunes onto a PC and "homeshared" to my Mac. PC died and could not disable homesharing on THAT end. But did disable homesharing on my Mac. Synced by iPod (appears to be a PC model) and all songs showed up under device in iTunes. But, all songs were downloaded from CDs (not iTunes store). So: tried to select all and save to a new folder under music. No dice. Tried "Add to Library" from iTunes File Menu...nada. Since the songs were originally loaded to the iPod from a Windows PC, do I need a utility in order to get them uploaded to my Mac? Really don't want to have to re-record them all (>1000 songs) and know I must be missing something obvious here.
Please tell me I'm just overlooking a VERY easy step!! I now have 1 (yes, one) song in my Library.
Your help is really greatly appreciated!

    Hi folks:
Just in case anyone else experieces this problem (uploading iPod Windows to iTunes Mac, I used iPodDisk freeware (with MacFuse)...loads songs to Finder as organized in iPod and you can drag and drop into iTunes!! Easiest way to get the job done...

  • Error during OS 4.2 update; Ipod no longer recognized by windows or itunes;

I've had my 3G 8gb since last Feb and never updated the OS (3.1.3). Yesterday I tried updating to 4.2. (OS: Windows Vista 64bit Home Premium; iTunes: 10.1.1.4) There was an error (unfortunately did not make a note of). Now my ipod touch is stuck in "Recovery Mode" and cannot be seen by Windows or iTunes. Windows does detect new hardware but when I browse for the drivers, I get the error "Could not find driver software" after I pointed exactly where it was located in C:\Program Files\Common Files\Apple\Mobile Device Support and C:\Program Files\Common Files\Apple\Mobile Device Support\Drivers. I've tried removing all Apple software from my computer and then reinstalling iTunes but I get the same results. I don't know what else to try. Any ideas? Thanks!

I found a solution last night through http://support.apple.com/kb/ts1538. But thank you for trying. The worst part was that I was doing the right thing all along but I think there is a bug in Vista (or I don't understand why I couldn't do it the way I was). On the window that appears after I clicked "Browse my computer for driver software", there are 2 options. The first says "Browse for driver software on your computer" which has an edit box under it and a "Browse" button next to the edit box which allows you to pick the parent directory that driver is in. The second option says "Let me pick from a list of device drivers on my computer". I knew where the drivers were so I was doing option one and it would not work (many repeated attempts after re-installing iTunes, etc.) - VERY FRUSTRATING. But now I'm up and running!!!

  • IPod Touch, not detected in Windows or iTunes...

First of all, hello to everyone...
i want to say that i read a lot EVERYWHERE about my issue and still i couldnt find a solution...
the problem is easy, i have a 3rd gen ipod touch, OS 4.2.1 now fully working... but, it's not detected in windows or itunes, as simple as that, and as u all have read in lots of other posts...
my ipod is now working because i took it to an apple store and they charged it in a MAC and they had no problem at all. the MAC detected the ipod, with all its content and my ipod's name...
but when i took it home -this has been hapenning since maybe... 5 MONTHS!-, i plug it in my PC and nothing happens...
ok, first of all, my spec... win vista home premium 64 bits, last version of itunes...
i tried ALL the solutions provided in APPLE official support page, and nothing happens... that means:
1- completely uninstall itunes and then reinstalling it... i ALSO FORMATED my entire hard drive twice!!!!
2- tried all USB ports and even an entirely different PC and nothing happened
3- bought 3 different IPOD to USB cables and nothing happened
4- tried setting ipod to restore, that way itunes SOMETIMES detected the ipod but i coulnt restore because of different error codes, so i had to take it several times to apple store to "unblock" it...
the only way it works -detection and charge- is with MAC computers or dock systems such as an iHome my gf has thats the way im charging it now, but otherwise it wont work...
i would really appreciate any help, since idont know what else to do!!
    thx in advance!!

HI I was having some other problems getting my itouch to restore because it was not being recognized in itunes and kept erroring out. Now it has finally restored after I updated all kinds of drivers and removed and reinstalled itunes and apple software a million times,(yes this is all after installing itunes 8.1 and paying for an itouch upgrade as well) Now itunes says it cannot do anything with the ipod because it is getting an invalid response from the device. So it won't put anything back on my itouch or even show that I have plugged it in. I emailed tech support, If I find anything out I'll let you know, will you do the same for me?

  • IPod Nano 4Gb (2nd Gen) not detected by Windows or iTunes

I am hoping someone can help me with this as I am at my wits end.
When I plug my iPod into the usb port, it begins the charging process, but neither windows, nor iTunes will detect any new devices. I have tried the 4 R's (the fifth needs a connection with iTunes), putting it into disc mode, and even on 3 different windows computers, but no dice. To save the no doubt normal questions, The usb ports are 2.0, and brand spanking new, which i have tested sucessfully with other usb devices, so I know it's not the usb port. I have the latest drivers & updates installed, and the latest version of iTunes also installed.
    Other potentially useful info:
The model is iPod nano 4bg alu 2nd gen
It's not new, i was given it as a gift by a friend who upgraded to the video model.
Though I can't be sure, I suspect that the dock cable isn't an apple product. Given that *very few* places where I live sell official iPod accessories, it is difficult for me to check.
Like I said, i really hope someone can help me, I really don't know how long i can go listening to my friends rather dubious music tastes...

  • Ipod has stopped being recognised by windows or itunes. tried everything

    hi
My ipod 30gb video is no longer being recognised.
    symptoms:
I plug ipod into the usb cradle
    drive appears in 'my computer'
    itunes 7.2 loads automatically
ipod has usual 'do not..' message
ipod screen then brightens with same 'do not..' message then goes back to menu on ipod
    drive dissapears from 'my computer'
nothing updates and itunes diagnostics say connection has failed. all usb hubs reported in diagnostics are ok.
    I have tried:
    1. resetting ipod
    2. windows /manage/settings/ipod checks
    3. system restore
    4. driver removal of ipod
    5. firmware update removal in itunes directory
    6. ipod lead instead of cradle and other USB ports
    6. everything else suggested on the help and support centre
the ipod works fine and I can see/hear all music and video on it and the itunes library matches the ipod
device manager sees the USB device as (0)ipod and says it is working fine
but the ipod is not being recognised??????
    HELP!!!! please
    thanks

Thanks! But I actually figured it out! Right after I said something about the driver, I went into device mangager. Sure enough even though it did not show up as a drive letter the device manager said is was installed and working.
So I deleted the device out of device manager. Restarted and plugged it in. Although I go some weird error. It found the IPOD and now Itunes sees it.
I believe that killing the process would have done the same thing as you stated.
Thanks to all for taking the time to answer these issues. It beats the apple store or tech support.

  • 5th Gen Ipod not recognized by windows or itunes. Have tried it all. Any Ideas?

Hello everyone. I have a 5th generation Ipod I recently purchased that I'm having what seems to be an common issue. When I connect the ipod to my computer via USB, the Ipod is not recognized in windows or Itunes. Occasionally the Ipod will charge when connected but not always. Though this is the same for the old wire I used and the new one I purchased today. Even when shown charging the Ipod is not recognized and there is no noise that a device has been connected. I have tried the 4 R's (without Restore) which I can't do, chaninging the drive letter, disabling start up software, uninstalling and reinstalling all Apple Software. I have tried connecting to another computer and have gotten the same result. When I check the diagnostic screen on the ipod it shows that a usb cable is detected. I have upgraded all my driver software, disabled and reenabled them. I'm almost 3 hours from the nearest store so that it out of the question. I'm curious if anyone has any other ideas and will try anything you think might be the issue and fix. Thank you for time.

From my experience, the only way you're gonna get a PC afflicted with this disease to work with a 5th gen nano is to roll back to an earlier version of iTunes.  Those affected have been exhausted by this ongoing issue.  To update or not to update?  And I always say never update unless you have to, and turn off all that auto update mess!
I have two core2duo lappies running 32b vista.  My workflow dictates 32b fyi.  One is acer aspire running itunes v 11.1 (.0.126),  5th gen nano was originally formatted and works just fine on this machine to this day.  My other is the bigger badder lenovo thinkpad and the 5th gen will NOT mount using any version of itunes past 11.0 (.1.12)  Windows mounts it just fine.  itunes is not having it.  no shirt no shoes no service.
I have both a 4th and 5th gen nano.  The 4th gen works great on both machines, I even successfully tested it with the latest version (11.1.5) before subsequent deletion on the thinkpad!  Weird huh?  I think my next experiment might be to restore my 5th gen w/ a Mac and theeeeen plug it into PC itunez.
I'm at a loss on the thinkpad.  Scanned for intruders.  Cut the Lenovo bloat.  Executed system and reg maintenance.  Took down msconfig to a safe mode + itunes level to attempt to resolve possible sw conflicts but to no avail.  NO NO NO.  Every single dang port, every time on the thinkpad.  Has me feeling like others might get the same treatment by the next itunes update.  :|
    So in summary for me:
5th gen nano and thinkpad are a NoGo on 11.1^  last working version for me = 11.0.1
5th gen nano is working on an acer aspire 11.1.0  but no way in the world am I updating
4th gen nano is kicking 5th gen nano's @zz so what would make me want to buy a new ipod?

  • Ipod charges but isnt recognized by windows or itunes

Ok so I see this is a huge problem..so here we go again:
My shuffle worked before and all of a sudden Windows or Itunes doesnt show that my Ipod Shuffle is connected. When I plug it into my USB port, the status light is amber and thats all that shows up. I have downloaded the newest versions of the updaters and itunes and still..not working. And when I try to use the updater, first it said NO ipod connected and now it says Ipod service error...I'm not quite sure what to do now, so any help I can get is appreciated!

  • Folder Warning, iPod not recognized by Windows or iTunes

Okay. My other computer froze up while the iPod was in "do not disconnect" mode, and I simply could not get it to shift out of that, so, I disconnected it.
Still stuck in that mode, even after being disconnected, so I reset it (held down the menu and select buttons), which apparently put it into disk mode. I can't access any menus, play any music, anything like that. All I get is the Apple logo and an icon of a folder with a warning triangle.
I've tried connecting it to my computer - Window's won't recognize it, and it doesn't show up in iTunes, just makes iTunes freeze. While connected, it goes back into "do not disconnect" mode, but as I can't eject it from Windows or iTunes, I have no choice but to simply pull the plug, at which point it then gives me the check-mark "okay to disconnect".
I've tried repeatedly to reset it with the various menu-select-play button combinations. I have tried letting the battery die and then plugging it back in. The troubleshooting guides here on Apple.com suggest Restoring it, but as iTunes (the newest, most updated iTunes) won't recognize it, I have no options or menus within the computer to choose to restore it.
    Help?

Okay. Thank you for your continuing attempts to answer my problem. The iPod is already in Disk Mode, though I'm not sure this is really the mode I want to be in, as neither of the computers in my house are recognizing it. I tried the iPod Reset Utility, but it too sits there with a greyed-out "Reset" button as if no iPod is connected.
I have taken a look at the iPod Service site, but as mine's a bit older and not under warranty, it would appear that I can't get free service directly officially from Apple. I'm going to try talking to people at the local Apple Store, if their Genius Bar schedule isn't all booked up.
Thanks again, and if anyone has any more ideas, I'd appreciate them.

  • Ipod not recognized by Windows or ITunes (Ipod updater)

My Ipod Nano was being charged when my 2 year old hit the reset button on the computer. After the computer rebooted I found out what happened. Now my Ipod just flashes the Apple logo . . . it does nothing else. Neither windows nor Itunes recognizes that it is connected to the computer. I have tried the 5Rs, but it will not reset (holding down the menu and center button appears to turn the Ipod off, but when you release the buttons the logo starts flashing again). Is there anything that can be done before I go through the hassle of sending it into Apple for repair?
    Ipod Nano   Windows XP Pro

That is EXACTLY what has happened to mine. I have been on web tech support for 2 days; nothing works. I called Best Buy and talked to tech guy: explained the problem to him and he said it was a hard drive gone bad. He also said that Apple changed their policies and does not still allow them to do any more than just reset the iPod; otherwise it has to be sent back to Apple.
If you get an answer that really helps, I'd love to hear it!!

  • IPod not recognized by Windows or iTunes....I've tried everything...HELP!

When I connect my 30GB iPod (5th gen) to the PC's usb port, Windows or iTunes doesn't recognize it. I know the iPod's dock connector is working because it charges when plugged into the usb port and it also works when connected to my car stereo. I think the problem may have started after updating the firmware to the latest version. I have tried the following things and it still doesn't work:
    1) Five Rs, except I can't Reinstall and Restore because the iPod isn't recognized by iTunes
    2) Updated iTunes
    3) Restarted ipodservice
    4) Tried a new usb cable
    5) Tried 2 other computers
    6) Tried different versions of iTunes
    7) Tried using MediaMonkey or Anapod
    8) Disabled "Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power" for all USB Root Hubs on my laptop.
    9) Deleted the 2 registry keys HKEYLOCALMACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Class\{4D36E980-E325 11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}
    HKEYLOCALMACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Class\4D36E967-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10 318}
I'm running out of ideas! Please help!

I restarted "ipodservice.exe" from the Windows Services control panel. It's one of the suggestions from the Apple website. I didn't try installing iTunes from the installation cd, I just downloaded the latest version from the Apple website. Maybe I should try that.
I have a Dell Dimension 1.6GHz Pentium-4 running Windows 2000. I also tried it on a Dell Latitude D610 laptop running Windows XP Pro, but it still doesn't work. I don't think we have the same problem. It sounds like your problem is with your computer, not your iPod or iTunes.

  • IPod not recognized by Windows or iTunes, troubleshooting didn't help.

I have an 80 gig iPod classic. When I plug it into my computer it is not recognized by either Windows or iTunes. However, it does charge while connected. I have gone through every troubleshooting tip on the Apple website and nothing has worked. The only thing I was unable to try was restoring it because it needs to be recognized in iTunes in order to do so. Any suggestions?

    I had the same problem.......
OK, after 8 hours.. It worked..... I was installling and uninstalling only itunes 9 but not all the apple components in my computer....... uninstall itunes 9 and all its components: Apple Mobile Device Support, Apple Software Update, Bonjour, iPod for Windows, iTunes, QuickTime.
Under the folder c:\Program Files delete the following folders:
Apple Software Update, Bonjour, iPod, iTunes, QuickTime
Search for any hidden folders named "Apple Computer" or "Apple" These may appear under AppData or Local/AppData, Delete these folders.
Restart your Windows machine and install itunes 9 and quicktime again..... good luck!!!!!

  • IPod no longer registering in Windows or iTunes

I am registering this as a new thread as the previous two related threads are marked as answered and it is obvious from the content that they are definitely not!
I have a problem with my 30GB iPod no longer registering in Windows or in iTunes since I updated to iTunes 7.1.1.5. In my case when I plugged in my iPod not only did iTunes not recognise it but iTunes froze and my whole laptop slowed until I forced iTunes closed.
I have tried all remedies previously mentioned but no success. The 'reset all settings' mentioned in previous thead has not worked either but at least iTunes does not now freeze when I plug my iPod in.
My iPod works with my daughters laptop operating on Windows 2000. Is this therefore a problem with the new iTunes and Windows XP? I notice all the other people with problems are running XP. If so is this a bug and can Apple release a fix?
Dell Latitude   Windows XP Pro   with SP2

I am adding to this thread as well because I am having exactly the same problem. Sorry if it seems a bit long, but I want all to have as much info as possible.
Things started "not" happening after install of Itunes 7.1.1.5. I can no longer see my ipod in windows or itunes. It works fine for playing. It charges and everything, but it has become a big no erasable mp3 player.
I have tried just about every option on all of the threads I have read on this forum. I have spent days on this and still no progress. Forget being solved, I hven't seen any positive results yet from any of these suggestions. I know they don't all apply to the same computers but I still have tried the 5 R's., delete USB controllers and reinstall, attempted new driver, but there wasn't one. I've tried every usb port available on the machine. I've tried the reset, the disk mode, everything on these forums. I think I might be missing steps but I'm usually pretty thorough.
Did I mention, I've tried this on 2 different machines? Both had itunes 7.1.1.5 installed. I'm afraid to try any other machines, in fear of having the same happen and if it is itunes, I potentially will mess up the machine(s) for nothing.
Any help with a new soltuion would be greatly appreciated.
My last resort would be to call Apple, but from comments on the forum, it might not be helpful. And sending it back for a new one doesn't seem to make a difference after reading the forums.
So please......any new ideas? Apple please help.
