IPod with AppleCare: problems registering APP

Hello,
I have the following issue: I purchased an iPod video with AppleCare Protection Plan - APP (May 2007). When I am trying to register the APP through the web process (apple.com/support/register), I get stuck on the "What is your extended service agreement number?" question - It does not accept the iPod Registration No. from the Web Registration Instructions from the APP (nor any other S/N from the purchase receipt).
My question is:
- how do I register the APP? Is there an alternative route or am I inputting the wrong no.?
- Is the APP automatically registered for my iPod? When I enter the iPods hardware serial number to find out what coverage is available for it, it does show only the original limited warranty plan though
I would need to find out how to register APP since I am located in Europe (iPod bought in US) and thus without it I am not eligible for a warranty repair. Contacting 1-800-MY-APPLE is not an option from here (1-800 numbers are not reachable outside of US)
Many thanks for your help,
Laco

Register you Applecare using the info (date of purchase and serial number) from your original iPod.
With my replacement iPod came a letter saying any future problems need to be logged to the original serial number.
As it states, if you have any problems, use the original serial number. Apple has the replacement serial #linked to the original.

  • Do i register relacement iPod with Applecare of original iPod?

Apple have replaced my iPod under the 12 within the 12 month warranty period.
Now my iPod has been replaced under warranty i thought it was a good time to purchase Applecare. I am a little confused as to which iPod i need to register the applecare to. With my replacement iPod came a letter saying any future problems need to be logged to the original serial number.
Also any remaing time on my original Warranty would be transferred (Which would leave me with 45 days) I checked the serial number on the apple site and it says that i still have a year left on the new serial number? i am confused as i have not even registered my applecare yet.
So the simple question after all the history is...
Do i register my applecare to my original iPod or my replacement iPod.

  • If I bought a computer from someone else unopened with applecare already registered, do I need to do anything else or am I good?

I bought a brend new, unopened macbook pro 15" computer, and it has applecare already registered with it.. I'm worried that if I go in with a problem in a year, they will tell me it's not mine, even though it is. And the person I bought it from got it as a gift.. so she doesn't have any of the numbers for the apple care or proof of purchase. HELP!!!! Please

Call Apple and transfer ownership, get it resolved now before trouble sets in.
Also the other can provide a notorized statement transfering ownership to you.

  • Itunes/ipod with colour problem

recently, ive been having problems with my ipod. i accidently dropped it onto concrete a couple of months back, and since then, it keeps coming up with the sad ipod icon. fortunately, tho im sure it doesnt do it any good, a swift smack to the back of it, and a restart usually gets it to work.
a couple of days a go, i had a pop-up on itunes saying that my ipod was corrupt, and needed to be restored. i clicked cancel the first time, but it came up again when i restarted itunes. i done this, and everything was fine. no sad ipod icon. however, now itunes wont open when my ipod is connected, but when it isnt, it'll load fine. i've tried it on my other pc without the internet, but that says about the ipod software not being installed properly.
i also cant access it via my computer on either computer, they both freeze, and stop responding.
i didnt buy my ipod from apple, so im pretty sure i cant just send it to them to get it fixed/whatever they can do. is there anything i can do, or would it be easier just to get a newer ipod?

if still does not solve try this
. Windows users having trouble with their iPods should locate a Mac user. In many cases when an iPod won't show up on a PC that it will show up on the Mac. Then it can be restored. When the PC user returns to his computer the iPod will be recognized by the PC, reformatted for the PC, and usable again. By the way, it works in reverse too. A Mac user often can get his iPod back by connecting it to a PC and restoring it.
    Tips
    a. It does not matter whether the format is completed or not, the key is to erase (or partly) the corrupted firmware files on the Hard Drive of the iPod. After that, when the iPod re-connected with a computer, it will be recognized as an fresh external hard drive, it will show up on the iTunes 7.
    b. It is not a difficult issue for a Mac user to find a window base computer, for a PC user, if they can’t find any Mac user, they can go to a nearest Apple Shop for a favor.
    c. You may need to switch around the PC and Mac, try to do several attempts between “Format” and “Restore”

  • CompUSA USB 2.o Card, iTunes 7.02, iPod with Video Problem

I just purchased a new 80 gig iPod with video and had to upgrade my MDD Duak 1 Ghz for USB 2.0, as transfer in USB 1 takes far too long. I purchased a card from CompUSA (SKU 304244) which adds two external ports only. When I attempt to transfer files into the iPod it seems to function at the faster speed, but will then freeze on a file, not allowing me to eject the iPod or sometimes to even force quit iTunes. I have tried this several times and there is no consistency regarding how many files have transferred or their size as to when the freeze will occur.
I originally tried this without adding a driver (using OS X 10.4.8), then I added the one from the included disc - same results. I then re-installed the 10.4.8 updater thinking this might have a more recent driver, but things are still the same.
I don't have any other USB 2 devices to use to test the card.
    Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Not all of the USB2 PCI cards out there are completely compatible with Mac as they claim to be.
I tried a two-port IOGear card that had that same problem.
Replace it with a 5 port (1 internal and 4 external) Belkin and it works just fine.
Someone has had a list somewhere of the ones that work best. I know that Belkin is one of the good brands to buy for loading a video iPod on a PowerMac. There are others, though.
You might find more on it in the video iPod board.

  • I have a video ipod with a problem

i just got my ipod and i had uploaded a lot of songs and two music videos with songs. Well now the songs with the music videos and the two music videos are gone. I bought them from itunes but i cant find any of the FAQs for that. Everything else is fine. But the music videos are no longer on there. Any ideas as to how i can get them back on.

Not everything about an iPod can be fixed by taking it to an Apple store. Problems exist with computers, too. So, please only post this message (that I've seen on countless threads already) if the problem itself can actually be fixed by resetting, restoring, or replacing, because that's about the extent of what a Mac Genius can do with an iPod at a Genius Bar. I'm not knocking them, but a lot of things do need to be done on a computer.
    Thank you.

  • Replacement iPod with identical problem.

I just paid good money for one of the new 80GB iPod's. As soon as iTunes had successfully loaded my 40GB+ collection onto it and indicated that it was safe to disconnect, the iPod started boot cycling, and couldn't be got out of it.
I got a replacement unit. Same issue.
Tried phoning apple support. Got told I needed to hold to speak to someone more senior. No, they couldn't possibly call me back. 15 mins of lift music and then I'm cut off.
    Can anyone tell me
    a. What's going on with my iPod(s)
    b. Who do I have to sleep with to speak to someone capable of resolving the issue or refunding my money, or do I really have to hire a lawyer?

  • Ipod with strange problems

I bought a second hand ipod 5G and first I had to restore it but I was tracked in a restore cycle. then when the problem was solved, it couldn't sync music. After the second problem solved and all the music sync in ipod, I tried to play music but after a few minutes it froze and the battery level became very low...
Any idea what to do now?

Seems like the problem 1 was solved changing the drive letter without networking,
the problem 2 was solved opening itunes without connecting ipod et press ctrlaltdelete
the last problem is temporarily solved by getting the ipod reinitialized and do not block the ipod by "hold" button

  • New ipod with major problem?

Ok... last night I received my new 2GB iPod nano (so excited, of course!) I plugged it in, it started charging, the "do not disconnect" was showing on the iPod screen, all of which I know to be normal. I downloaded iTunes version 7, and my iPod didn't show up in it. So I read up on a few things and decided to restart the computer.
Here's where I mad my mistake: When I went to disconnect the iPod, instead of clicking on the "safely remove hardware" (I have windows), I accidentally clicked to not allow this to be used or something like that.
Now when I plug in the iPod, the computer doesn't recognize it (it makes the beep noise to say that something is plugged into the USB port, but nothing else) and the iPod doesn't charge or say fully charged or "do not disconnect" and of course, iTunes doesn't recognize that there is an iPod plugged in.
So... what do I do? Help! I want to use my Nano!

In Windows XP, go to control panel, then system, then select the hardware tab, then device manager. If the iPod shows as disabled, right click it and select "enable".
I hope that works for you.

  • 2nd Gen iPod with Vertical Screen Lines

I've got a 2g iPod (10 gig) that has vertical lines in the screen that no longer work. This a monochrome lcd so I figured that it was a faulty connection between the board and the glass. So I opened my iPod to investigate. there's a plastic ribbon connector sheet with embeded metal connectors that go from the main board to the screen. It looks like pressure from the click wheel's outer ring has stressed the 'wires' in the plastic sheet.
The ribbon connector is folded into a Z shape going from the bottom of the screen to the PCB. If I push up (as in from the bottom toward the firewire port) on the fold in the connection ant the bottom of the screen, all my screen lines, one by one, quickly jump into action and begin functioning normally. However I haven't found a way to make this permanent. I don't expect there's any way to replace the plastic connector. I think the more I move it the more stressed and broken the wires will become.
Has anyone ever fixed an iPod with this problem. Any experience with fixing or working around this type of ribbon connector problem?
I'll be working on it tonight but I want to see if anyone has any suggestions.

Well I decided it's definitely a manufacturing error. Every time the menu button is pressed it pushes down the connector a fraction of a milimeter. The button has a small shroud like protrusion. While I can press the wire in and regain my missing lines temporarily, it's clear that doing so further damages the wires. Apparently there's no way to hold the wire in place with pressure because the menu button is in the way (nothing can fit between them).
Anyway I can only see 2 lines of the bite of the apple when my iPod starts up. I fully expect that this will only get worse. Any help, history or suggestions are welcome.

    Very likely yes.
