IPod with colour display loop in restart mode unable to stop

During a synchronisation of mi 60 GB iPod colour display sync. stopped and iTunes did not work at all until i disconeted the iPod (With the display frozen as it was synchronising). I tried the select-menu stuff and the restart seemed to start. But it was only to enter in an aparent loop where the apple sign apears first, then the display backlight opens and then everything shuts down and retarts...until the battery is empty.
Trying to connect the iPod to the Mac did not solve anything, the iPod did not apear neither in the finder or in iTunes.
Any idea before going to Apple services?

could be reaching a time for a battery replacement, but have a try to put it in disk mode, do a Restore then have a charge for few hours
Try to put the iPod into Disk Mode if it fails to appear on the desktop

  • IPod with colour display frozen in 'hold' mode

My iPod with colour display has frozen whilst in 'hold' mode. Toggling 'hold' does not unlock 'hold'. Screen remains frozen despite following reset steps and searching he forums. Anyone got any suggestions or links for me to check out please ?
    Thanks, Jeff

The reason I asked about podcasts is that I experienced that problem for much of a year and it was finally fixed with one of the recent updates to iPod and/or iTunes. I also found that Reset may take 10 or more attempts. I know it's a pain, but, just keep trying for a long time. Another thing that may work is to just leave it sit for a day or so until the battery goes fully discharged, then do the Restore.

  • IPod with colour display

Im getting an ipod with a colour display i just wanted to know how often do people have issues with it because i had a mini and i had terrible battery problems. does the ipod 20gb have any known battery problems?

    James,
normally none of the iPods have battery issues. But I have heard of a very funny story: if the alarm is set by accidence, the default time is 2400 hours, midnight! Most of the people do other things rather than listening to music on the iPod at that time. So the next day when they take it, it is running and the battery is empty (no wonder!). So sometimes this can be the cause for very short battery life...:-)))

  • Itunes will not recognise my 4th generation 60gb ipod with colour display.

itunes no longer recognises my 4th generation 60gb pod. It connects the machine for a short time, but I cannot add anything or delete anything from the ipod. It then says safe to disconnect without having requested this. I am using a re3cent version of itunes.I do not wish to loose all my music by syncing the machine and at the moment that appears impossible anyway. Can anyone help?  And while I'm here, is there a simple way to remove gaps in playback on ipods ?  jonnyMDG

    Hello alicee1303
If the computer recognized your iPod Nano, then the next step would be to try the steps in the following article to isolate and resolve the issue.

  • Itunes/ipod with colour problem

recently, ive been having problems with my ipod. i accidently dropped it onto concrete a couple of months back, and since then, it keeps coming up with the sad ipod icon. fortunately, tho im sure it doesnt do it any good, a swift smack to the back of it, and a restart usually gets it to work.
a couple of days a go, i had a pop-up on itunes saying that my ipod was corrupt, and needed to be restored. i clicked cancel the first time, but it came up again when i restarted itunes. i done this, and everything was fine. no sad ipod icon. however, now itunes wont open when my ipod is connected, but when it isnt, it'll load fine. i've tried it on my other pc without the internet, but that says about the ipod software not being installed properly.
i also cant access it via my computer on either computer, they both freeze, and stop responding.
i didnt buy my ipod from apple, so im pretty sure i cant just send it to them to get it fixed/whatever they can do. is there anything i can do, or would it be easier just to get a newer ipod?

if still does not solve try this
. Windows users having trouble with their iPods should locate a Mac user. In many cases when an iPod won't show up on a PC that it will show up on the Mac. Then it can be restored. When the PC user returns to his computer the iPod will be recognized by the PC, reformatted for the PC, and usable again. By the way, it works in reverse too. A Mac user often can get his iPod back by connecting it to a PC and restoring it.
    Tips
    a. It does not matter whether the format is completed or not, the key is to erase (or partly) the corrupted firmware files on the Hard Drive of the iPod. After that, when the iPod re-connected with a computer, it will be recognized as an fresh external hard drive, it will show up on the iTunes 7.
    b. It is not a difficult issue for a Mac user to find a window base computer, for a PC user, if they can’t find any Mac user, they can go to a nearest Apple Shop for a favor.
    c. You may need to switch around the PC and Mac, try to do several attempts between “Format” and “Restore”

  • Ipod Video Vs. Apple iPod with color display Dock

Can someone help me with this question, can the Apple iPod with color display Dock works for the fifth generation ipod???? or just works with the universal Dock???

Can someone help me with this question, can the Apple iPod with color display Dock works for the fifth generation ipod????
According to the local Apple Store here, the Color iPod dock (M9868G/A) will work with the 5G iPod but is a "loose fit" as far as the seating in the well goes.

  • IPod Classic 160GB Reboot loop BUT Disk Mode Works!

I have searched the internets and have yet to find someone with the same problem as me.
I have an iPod Classic 160GB which is stuck in a reboot loop (apple logo appears for 10 seconds, then restarts again). This happened shortly after using it as a disk to transfer a file from a Linux machine to a PC. This is probably not the culprit though as I have done this many times.
The reboot loop continues and neither windows nor a mac will recognize the iPod until I put it into disk mode. When I do this, it functions perfectly. I can move files to/from the disk, add songs in iTunes and then play them from the iPod. I am able to restore the iPod but when it tries to complete the process it goes into the reboot loop.
So, in brief, I have tried:
    1) Resetting the iPod (duh).
    2) Restoring it using iTunes while in disk mode on a Mac and a PC.
    3) same as above but manually choosing an older firmware version.
    4) Manually formatting the drive using a Mac and a PC.
So perhaps there is something wrong with the iPod that is not hard drive-related or there is something wrong with the firmware partition. Needless to say, I'm baffled.
Answers such as "Send it back to Apple." or "You're screwed, it's a brick." will not be considered helpful unless they accompanied by an explanation.
    Thanks in advance.

    Some more info:
I can get into diagnostic mode by pressing select and REV, but I can't force a disk scan by pressing MENU, SELECT, REV, and FFW.
    Any help?

  • HT1386 My husband and I traded ipod with each other. Now, I am unable to put my entire library on the ipod. Only some songs imported. HELP

My husband and I exchanged ipods with each other. I attempted to import my whole music library to this current ipod. only certain songs imported. Not all. How do I get the WHOLE library to this ipod?

if I sign in my iTunes on my husband's computer, will it delete his iTunes library?
LOL!  If Home Sharing deleted the other person's library, then Home Sharing wouldn't have too many users, would it?
Seriously, Home Sharing sounds like a fine solution to the need you express.
However, your question suggests that your library is not backed up, right?  You and your husband should each make a backup of your libraries.

  • Not waking up with external display in closed clamshell mode.

    Hello all!
I have the newest Macbook (late 2009), and have had it docked in a BookArc using an external display, keyboard and mouse. Everything has been working perfectly since I got it a couple months ago. I've traveled with the Macbook and redocked it at home a few times. This morning, I woke the computer and the display lit up as usual. A moment later, the display went black, said no signal and the power light went yellow (it's blue when operating). I hit the keyboard and clicked the mouse to wake it again to no avail. Took the Macbook out of the stand, opened the display and it works perfectly. Checked my energy saver settings, fine. Closed the clamshell, redocked, wont wake/start the external display. Took it out of the dock again, everything is fine, rebooted. Docked again, no wakey. I'm using it now as a normal laptop typing this. Any ideas as to suddenly why it wont wake/work with the external display? Thanks!

Last week I bought an Acer X223W 22 inch display for my MacBook (13-inch, Late 2009) – Model A1342 Polycarbonate Unibody and an Apple Keyboard MB110LL/A - Also using a Apple wireless Magic Mouse but not a BookArc. ( Just leaving on the desk next to the Acer display )
I've found that you have to have the MacBook connected to the AC Power Supply to keep the MacBook awake when trying to use an external display. It's kinda a pain sometimes, I usually boot up my MacBook before connecting the Display and Keyboard then once I'm logged in......
and Once everything is loaded I plug in the Keyboard first then The Display adapter cable, Close the MacBook up then Click/Move the Magic Mouse ( System Preferences settings - Bluetooth ( Advanced: Allow Bluetooth Devices To Wake This Computer - checked ) Energy Saver AC and Battery set to 3 hours ( All other settings Unchecked )
Sometimes takes a few clicks before the Desktop appears on the external display, Now once its on I can open the MacBook ( just enough to help keep it running cooler ) and unplug the AC Adapter unless it needs charging.

  • FUJI F10 works with iPOD with color display

I purchased a 30GB color iPOD, camera connector, and a FUJI F10 camera and successfully transferred from camera to iPOD and iPOD to iPhoto.
It isn't listed as supported, so I wanted to pass this info along.

    Welcome to Apple Discussions!
It may work, but it won't come with the appropriate adapters to fit your iPod right.
The best bet is the iPod Universal Dock

  • Can't seem to upload .TXT files to my iPod with Color Display 80GB

Hello - I've enabled disk use, but the iPod keeps rejecting any .txt files that I try and put on it. It says in the manual drop it into the 'Notes' folder, but on my Mac, in iTunes, the only folders showing up are Music, Movies, Videos, Podcasts, and then a list of playlists. How do I add notes to this iPod, or can I?
Thank you for any help you can give.

Follow the instructions in this article and then add the notes through the Finder.

  • Ipod with Identity Crisis

I have a 60gb ipod with colour display, which I think is fourth gen. Recently i had problems with it. It was getting stuck on the apple icon at start up. I would turn it on, and then it would stay on the apple icon no matter what i did. I had to drain the battery to get it going again. this happened a few times, and each time i restored it after drainage. I could hear the hd spinning when it was stuck on the icon. Eventually i restored it and it hasnt stuck since.
But since then whenever the ipod shows in itunes, or in windows, or even in the about section in settings on the actual ipod it says it only has 16gb worth of capacity!!! Can anybody help me with this problem? The ipod is working fine otherwise, its just now I only have a quarter of the capacity i had before. I have already tried renaming the drive.
    Thanks for your help

If your iPod is recognized in "my computer", changing the drive letter can sometimes resolve this issue.
Click on control panel/admin tools/computer management/disk management/right click on the iPod to re-assign the drive letter.
Choose something lower down the alphabet, say 'M' or something similar.
The iPod can be confused by any other storage devices assigned a similar drive letter even though they may not connected at the same time.
If the device manager is empty, see this: iPod not appearing in Windows device manager.

  • IPod with Color will not connect to G5

I recently bought a used iPod with Color display with a 60 GB drive for use in the car. I have a BMW with the cable that accommodates an iPod. I plugged it into the G5 with all my music on it and.... nothing.
I tried plugging it into my work PC and it connected. Then I went over to my daughter's new iMac and it connected perfectly. While I was there, I decided to "restore" the iPod since it was used and I was not sure what might have been on it previously. Restore went great.
Went over to my G5 and plugged it in. This is when it gets weird. As many of you know the G5 has three USB ports. One conveniently located in front and two in back. Obviously my first try was the one in front...... again, nothing. So I tried the two in back. The top one gave me..... nothing. But the bottom one seemed to like the iPod and it connected. I gave the iPod a new name and merrily started loading it up with music. I got 4 or 5GB worth onto it when all of a sudden I got the dreaded "Device Removal" warning.
I sort of froze and wondered what to do next. Since I had already gotten the "Device removal" warning I decided that unplugging it would be ok. So I did so and wait a few minutes before connecting the iPod once more. It connected alright but now I got a message saying that "iTunes cannot read the content of iPod "iPod Color". Go to summary tab in iPod preferences and click Restore to restore this iPod to factory settings".
So I click OK and look at the summary. The iPod is listed on the left under devices but now the name is displayed simply as "iPod" and not iPod Color as I had named it. Capacity is n/a (can't read it) and software version is shown as 1.2.1. Serial number is also listed. I hadn't transferred much music onto it yet so I decided to just go ahead and restore it.
I got the "Are you sure you want to restore the iPod.." message and I click "restore". At this moment nothing happens for about 2 minutes. iTunes is frozen and then I get a message that pops up and says, "The iPod "iPod" (note the wrong name) could not be restored because it could not be found". I click ok, I unmount the iPod and here we sit.
I have tried this over and over several times on this G5 with EXACTLY the same results. I have tried two other cables and we get the same thing. I also tried restarting the G5 with the iPod plugged into the USB port that works and got the same thing with one minor variation. When I went to restore the iPod this time, it actually started the process. We got the blue horizontal barber shop pole and I really though we had a break through, but after about 15 seconds I got the message that "The iPod "iPod" (still the wrong name) could not be restored because it could not be found.
I'm not quite sure what to try next. I can't decide if the problem is with the OS (USB ports not all working) iTunes itself (maybe I can install a different version?) of the iPod. The iPod by the way was sold to me by a guy on eBay who reconditions the devices. He seems pretty competent so I think the iPod itself is in good working order.
Anyone have any suggestions? I appreciate your ideas.
    John

    Physician - heal thyself!!!!!!
Well after pick away at this problem for a few weeks (alone) I think I have solved the problem. Through my countless iterations of trying every combination of plugging and unplugging various USB devices in various USB ports, I realized that the one combination I had not tried was unplugging EVERY device from the G5 itself including the keyboard. But wait, I need the keyboard to input text into the computer don't I? I had completely forgotten that there are two USB ports on the back of my Apple monitor. So I plugged the keyboard into the port on the monitor and guess what? The G5 not only recognized the iPod but allowed me to restore factory settings and actually sych it with iTunes.
So, what I learned is that this G5 will not work with this 60 GB iPod with Color screen unless it is the ONLY USB device plugged into tone of the three USB ports. Right - I am sure the Apple Engineers view this as a "feature". Shyaa - right!
Well, it not idea but at least it works. It's pain to unplug every other USB device when you want to sych your iPod but I suppose that's the price we pay.
Is the question answered? No, not really. I still don't know if it's a hardware problem, an OSX problem, or an iPod problem. My guess is that since it's a G5 running a Power PC chip, the fellas at Apple won't give this a second look.
