Ipod with Windows ME..new program??

Hey would really love some help please!
Bought my ipod about a month ago, didnt realise that ITunes needed Windows 2000 or XP.
I have Windows ME and downloaded another program to put my songs on.
This has now expired and am now looking for another one...in the meantime i have formatted it and now comes up with a folder and exclation mark when I switch it on.
I am really stuck now with what to do and am worried I have messed it up completely
Any help would be greatful, cheers!

Formatted the iPod? In Windows Me? Oh dear, but you really may have messed it up.
Find a friend with a Windows XP computer and try to restore the iPod on that computer.
Then check this: James Bond 007, "connecting to Windows ME" #2, 07:09pm Jul 30, 2005 CDT
But really it will be in your best interest to upgrade to Windows XP or a new computer running Windows XP, or get a new Mac such as the Mac mini, if you want to keep using the iPod.

  • Using an iPod with Windows Me

As far as I know, you can't use iTunes with Windows Me. I knew that when I bought my iPod, but I figured surely I'd be able to use it without iTunes--with a different program, maybe, like Winamp. Apparently not: my computer wouldn't recognize the iPod as anything but a removable drive, which was fine, except I couldn't play anything on it that way. Tried the installation software that came with the iPod and was told it wouldn't work on anything but a Windows 2000 or XP either.
So then I thought, hey, I've got a semi-functioning Mac OS X at work; I'll just use that to put everything on my iPod, even if I can't use iTunes at home. Great, except it doesn't have the right version of iTunes, won't go online to upgrade, and demands a password to install from the CD. Again using it as an external hard drive, I stick something on it anyway and try to bring it home, whereupon my Windows Me tells me that the iPod needs to be formatted.
This is all making me crazy, because I paid good money for that iPod and I'd really love to, you know, use it. Is there any possible way I can use this iPod with Windows Me, with or without iTunes? Some kind of plug-in I can download, maybe?

I finally figured I had nothing to lose--I'd just downloaded a new version of Real Player, which supposedly will work with iPods and Windows Me--and I let my computer format the iPod, hoping that would let it work with Windows again. Apparently not. Now it won't turn on--it's giving me the folder-and-exclamation-point icon. Resetting it didn't help, and I can't restore it because I can't install the software to my computer in the first place.
I suppose the only thing to do is borrow a friend's computer or something.

  • HT1369 cannot csync my ipod with windows 8.

cannot sync my ipod with windows 8, previously used it on windows 7

Did you import the CD using the iTunes import feature? Using that feature gets them in a format compatible with the iPod.
What is the format of the songs?
    Do they play in iTunes?
Does other music sync to the iPod?

  • I have been using iPod touch and iTunes with Windows XP - no problems.  I now have a new computer with Windows 7 Home Premium.  When I try to sync the iPod with Windows 7 and iTunes it will not transfer all my photographs.  What can I do?

When I tried to sync my iPod Touch with my new computer none of the photographs were synced.  I use Adobe Photoshop Elements 10.  When I did it the first time the photographs were all muddled up in their albums.  When I tried to sync again the photographs were all removed.  On the third try I received an error message something like 'Unable to sync photographs program cannot be found.' Can anyone help.  (It may be to do with Windows 7 and Libraries??)

  • How to get dvd movies onto ipod with windows

Okay, I have finally figured out how to get movies from DVD to ipod for windows users, and it's free, with no watermarks. It involves a 2-program process. First go and download Videora Ipod Converter at http://www.videora.com/en-us/Converter/iPod/
Then download DVDFab Decrypter at http://www.dvdidle.com/free.htm
Now after you have installed these onto your computer:
    1. Insert the DVD into your disc drive.
    2. Open DVDFab and open the DVD folder, video_ts or whatever it happens to be
    3. Select your target destination for the files to be saved
    4. Click start to begin copying the DVD.
    5. Once everything is done being saved open videora ipod converter
    6. Go to setup and select the one click profile which size of video you would like and the output of the files
    7. Go to convert and select new transcode video, find your video file and select open
    8. Wait for the file to be completed transcoding
    9. Open itunes and select file, add file to library, find the file(s) and select okay
    10. Most of you should know what to do form here

For anyone who wants to get up and running, these are the settings I use for Videora.
After days of experimenting, I settled on the settings below which seem to give a good balance between filesize and quality. There will be a bit of blockiness in the dark shadows but if it's too much, just increase the 'bitrate'. Experiment with a short video, but make sure the video you experiment with is very high quality or you won't know what is or isn't down to your settings.
Again, don't use h264. Only Quicktime Pro has h264 nailed. You may be able to get some things to work in h264 but more likely, you'll be watching a movie and it will suddenly stop, or your iPod's hard disk will start munching away to a black screen. mpeg-4 works fine in Videora, always. No problems.

    Mode: MPEG-4 > CBR

    Bitrate: 96kbps

  • Recognizing an iPod with Windows Vista

I have a new computer that came with Windows Vista. I have not been able to get iTunes to operate correctly for Windows Vista to recognize the USB connection to my iPod. Anyone have a patch or downloadable software suggestion to resolve this?

  • Syncing iPod with Windows

I am wondering if I am able to connect my configured MAC ipod with the windows itunes?

If your iPod is formatted for Mac it won't run natively on a PC because the Windows OS does not support the HFS Plus file system and therefore will not see the drive. If the iPod is going to be used permanently on a PC or on both Windows and OS X then it would be best to restore and reformat the iPod in iTunes for Windows. Macs can read Windows drives so you can reload the songs from your Mac and use it on both platforms. Once it's restored for Windows any future software updates will have to be done on the PC to maintain the formatting. Alternatively there are third party programs that will allow you to use a Mac formatted iPod on Windows, this is one for instance gets good reviews: XPlay 2iPod on Mac and Windows

  • Unable to sync 30GB Ipod with Windows Vista

Hi! I just got a new laptop today - it has 64 bit Vista on it. I downloaded the 64 bit version of Itunes and was able to transfer my music to the computer into itunes. But it will not sync. The ipod is formatted with FAT 32 which is what I think maybe the problem but I'm not sure. Does anyone have any idea how to make this sync? Thanks!

This seems to be a really common problem with Vista. I have been trying for weeks to get it to work; sometimes it syncs a little, sometimes it doesn't. Sometimes it appears in the Devices list, sometimes it doesn't and sometimes it appears for a few seconds and then disappears. I find that, if I disable the Ipod Service and the ItunesHelper service and then restarts Itunes, I get a better, albeit still unreliable, connection but still rarely will it sync.
Tried it with Windows Firewall on, off and all points in between in terms of opening the requisite ports. Tried it with iTunes 7.2 and still no better. Tried resetting the Apple TV numerous times at various stages of this marathon.
What I have NOT tried yet is to completely remove iTunes 7.1.1 AND Quicktime and then reinstall everything and that will be tonight's exercise.
I am currently connecting and syncing quite happily from my girlfriend's Toshiba laptop so there is definitely no problem with the Apple TV.
I will post the results of my iTunes reinstallation attempt once I have it.
Has anyone got a working Vista implementation that we can discuss?

  • HT1353 How to use older iPod with Windows 7 & latest iTunes?

I have ipod classic 5th generation 30g that still has a lot of my music on it.  My computer with iTunes version that synched with it crashed.  New VAIO Windows 7 laptop can't recognize the hardware.  Where can I get a driver for the VAIO Windows 7?  Can I use my iPod with the latest iTunes?  Will I ever be able to load new music to this older iPod?

I fixed this by un-installing iTunes.  Next installed latest version for 64bit Windows 7.  Opened iTunes and connected my iPod to my laptop using the USB cable.  The driver was automatically updated and iTunes was able to recognize the older iPod and copied all my purchased music to iTunes on my new VAIO.
    Yeaaa!

  • Runtime.exec() - how to open new window for new program?

    Hi,
I have searched through the forums but haven't found an answer to this one yet. I am using runtime.exec() to start up a new java program. At first I thought it wasn't running properly but, after checking task manager, I have discovered that the new program I open runs, it is just completely invisible to me. I am wondering how I can get the new program to run in a command window or something where I can monitor it.
    Thank you for your help,
    Drew

Thank you all. After trying to figure out why the start command wouldn't work in the runtime.exec() call(not an executable - I am a dolt), I tried putting it in a batch file and it worked perfectly. Thanks for your help,
    Drew

  • IPod with Windows

First thing, I hate the fact that I bought an iPod instead of a Zune. I just realized it too late to get my money back. I really miss the user-friendly functions I'm used to with Windows.
    1. I have about 5700 tracks on iTunes, but I can't get it to do a mass update for the song titles and other information.
    2. It didn't import all the music from the Media Player so I've been doing it 1 CD at a time and still have about 1000 more tracks to go. I also can't even set up a queue to import. It's 1 CD and wait, 1 CD and wait...
    3. I want the ability to sort by album but it sorts by album artist.
    4. I can't get my iPod to use the 'Contacts' or 'Notes' options.
    5. I can't sort my songs once they're on my iPod. (I don't think I'm supposed to be able to, but that just seems stupid to me)
    6. I want to be able to use the 'Shuffle' function, but only in songs within 'My Top Rated'. It shuffles, but it's from the whole playlist.
The only advise I've gotten so far was from an iPod service rep. They suggested I buy a Mac laptop. Like I'm going to buy a $1200 laptop to make my $350 iPod work. I hope that's not the only option available.
      Windows XP

I guess I am still confused by what you want for sort. So pretend I am a moron (because I am) and start from the beginning. You are talking about while within the main library area of iTunes? And if so, when you click on the heading of "Album", does it then sort your library by album name? If so, it that what we are talking about?
    As to your other questions...
"1. I have about 5700 tracks on iTunes, but I can't get it to do a mass update for the song titles and other information."
iTunes can only look up information for full albums at a time that haven't been changed (track order is correct, nothing added or deleted, etc.) since the Gracenotes look up database works off the table of contents of full albums as a fingerprint to identify which album it is then fills in the track information.
Individual tracks do not have any sort of identifier that can be used to look up what those tracks are.
"2. It didn't import all the music from the Media Player so I've been doing it 1 CD at a time and still have about 1000 more tracks to go. I also can't even set up a queue to import. It's 1 CD and wait, 1 CD and wait..."
    What's the question?
"4. I can't get my iPod to use the 'Contacts' or 'Notes' options."
In Notes, on the iPod, there should be a note telling you how to add notes to your iPod. Did you see that one yet?
I think contacs can be synced from Outlook or you can export vcards from an application then drop those vcards into the contacts folder of the iPod (you need to enable disk mode on the iPod to get into the drive of the iPod).
"5. I can't sort my songs once they're on my iPod. (I don't think I'm supposed to be able to, but that just seems stupid to me)"
Ya I think they are always in a set sort. For "by songs" they are alphabetical. If you instead go into Artist, they are in album order. Same with by album I think.
"6. I want to be able to use the 'Shuffle' function, but only in songs within 'My Top Rated'. It shuffles, but it's from the whole playlist."
To shuffle in playlists, artists, albums, etc. you have to set the iPod to shuffle. Main menu -> Settings -> Shuffle -> Songs. Now when you play a playlist or something it will shuffle that playlist or something. Unfortunately, unlike iTunes where you can set the shuffle individually for playlists, on the iPod the setting is all or nothing. So to then play, for example, an album without shuffling, you have to reset that option to OFF.

  • Windows XP Wont Recognise My IPOD  (with Windows on Drive D?)

I have been using the my IPOD sucessfully with Itunes for over a year now. However since recently rebuilding my machine with Windows residing on Drive D: (was on Drive C orginally), the IPOD is not recognised by ITUNES or the Updater. I read somewhere that ITUNES and the Updater requires drive C: to be the main drive. I can't believe this but since I am desperate I will try anthing. However before I go to this extreme step, can anybody shed any light on this please. Much appreciated!

I really appreciate your help..thanks very much.
Now I put the "wee darling" into disk mode as you suggested and no, it did not show up in the disk management screen.
When I got it into disk mode, following the instructions, it came up correctly with "ok to disconnect" however, when I connected the Ipod, it did not come up "with do not disconnect" as it should have done, again according to the instructions.
I have previously and recently used this firewire port with my movie camera, so I know it works. I also get power from the Firewire port ok.
In case this helps, this is a first generation Ipod with the scroll wheel. (bit ashamed to admit this).
Its Christmas day here, so Merry Christmas and thanks again!

  • Using ipod with windows millenium

    Hi
I am having problems with installing ipod mini with my computer. Aparantly ipod requires min of windows 2000 or XP however my computer has windows millenium as operating system.
Having tried to upgrade to XP this resulted in my computer crashing and me having to use the computer recovery disc.
I am scared of trying to upgrade my computer. Is there any way that ipod mini can be used with windows millenium.
    Hoping for Help
    Shane

It can be done, Shane, but it's not easy.
iTunes won't work under ME, so you'll need a replacement. The iPod Updater, also required to prepare the iPod for Windows use, won't work either under ME. You'll need to install and run the iPod Updater on a computer with Windows XP to get your mini ready.

  • Using a Mac formatted ipod with windows itunes

Any ideas how I can update my mac formatted ipod on windows based itunes without losing all of my music? Every time I connect onto my pc I just kept being told I need to restore factory settings, yet when I connect to my mac it's fine.
    Any help is greatly appreciated

If your iPod is formatted for Mac it won't run natively on a PC because the Windows OS does not support the HFS Plus file system and therefore will not see the drive: How to determine your iPod's disk format
Macs can read Windows drives so you could restore and format the iPod on a PC then connect it back to the Mac and reload your songs. iTunes will allow you to use an iPod formatted for Windows on a Mac but Apple currently only fully supports using the iPod shuffle in FAT32 format on Mac, in other words all future software updates for the iPod would have to be carried out in Windows to maintain the formatting. Alternatively there are third party programs that will allow you to use a Mac formatted iPod on Windows, this is one for instance gets good reviews. It's a commercial program so you'll have to purchase a license to use it:: XPlay 2
