I'm having the same exact issue! Have you been able to figure something out yet? I've tried everything and I just can't get it to connect to my Mac. It works with my PC just fine though. I heard that it would be beneficial to reformat the iPod but I'm not sure how.

  • My iPod won't connect to my Mac... Help?

My iPod won't connect with my Mac anymore.
It connected last time I tried it (four months ago, about). It's a Gen Two or Three (I don't know the difference, sorry) and I haven't changed anything about my Mac since then, or my iTunes.
If you can help at all, please reply. And don't hesitate to ask for more info.
EDIT: Oh, and I've tried resetting the iPod, putting it in Disk Mode, using a different USB port and restarting the computer (several times).
The iPod says "Do Not Disconnect" and the iPod symbol appears on Finder and I am able to access it, but it won't appear in iTunes.

I was having the same problem--no iPod on Desktop, no iPod in iTunes. This fixed it for me, at least:
    1. Open Applications > Utilities > Disk Utility. (My iPod DID show up here, though it wasn't mounted.)
    2. Select the iPod in the disk list on the left.
    3. Click "Verify Disk." (In my case, this revealed an underlying error.)
    4. Click "Repair Disk." (If this works, great--stop here. It didn't work for me...)
    5. Click the "Erase" tab at the top of the right-hand main pane.
    6. Choose Mac OS Extended (Journaled) for Volume Format.
    7. Click "Erase" button at bottom right.
Almost immediately, my iPod showed up on my Desktop, iTunes launched, and it was as though I had completed a Restore of the iPod.
    Hope that helps....

  • IPOD CLASSIC NOT BEING RECOGNIZED BY MAC OR ITUNES

Used to work perfectly - suddenly neither my Mac book nor Itunes is seeing Ipod when connected to the Computer.
If I reset it and go into DISK mode everything works fine on both Mac book and Itunes!
Ive noticed that although I formatted IPOD for use under MAC OSX it now shows that it is formatted for PC!
Something has obviously become corrupted in the software so I need to reload it.
Can I restore my previous settings without doing a full Restore and loosing all my music in the process?
    Any help appreciated

  • IPod won't mount on new Mac Pro

I just got a new Mac Pro that came with Snow Leopard. After getting everything setup I plugged in my iPod shuffle and it won't mount when plugged into either of the 2 front USB ports or any of the 3 back USB ports. When I plug it into the USB port on the keyboard it mounts and I can sync it through iTunes. When plugged into the front two ports the green charging light comes on, but it doesn't mount. The back 3 ports just cause the iPod to blink the green charging light quickly, it isn't a solid green.
I don't know if this is a Snow Leopard problem or the Mac Pro. The iPod was working perfectly with my G5 running Leopard.
    Any ideas?
    david.

I just don't get computers sometimes (even after being a software developer for over 25 years).
I had restarted the computer multiple times while installing other software but the iPod would not mount.
I took your suggestion to try another USB device and the only other device I had was a Canon scanner. I installed the drivers which required another restart. And the scanner worked and now the iPod works on all of the USB ports. It is mounted in iTunes and I can sync it on any port.
I checked the console logs files and didn't find anything unusual before it didn't work and nothing different now that the iPod mounts.

  • IPod won't play album tracks consecutively, only one at a time

So I was trying to listen to some Brian Eno last night.
How do I tell my iPod that Brian Eno soundtracks are, um, soundtracks - as in, intended to be played piece after piece, one through thirteen? For example, if I go into eg a Kasabian album, I can play the whole thing without having to re-find the album for each individual track, + the tracklisting in the 'Now Playing' window on the iPod shows '1 of 13', '2 of 13', etc.
But if I try to play Eno's The Pearl, the 'Now Playing' display tells me each track is '1 of 1' - so it will only play one track + I have to go back into the iPod + manually select track 2, track 3, etc (which are all still '1 of 1'). And here's the weird part, if I look at the same tracks in the 'Get Info' window on iTunes on my laptop, each track is clearly labelled '1 of 13', '2 of 13', etc. Whassup with that then? It seems as if that info simply isn't making it as far as the iPod.
I tried designating the album as a compilation, but this just made Eno vanish from the Artists menu + didn't solve the problem.
Double weirdly, this seems to be a problem I have only with Brian Eno - is he on some sort of Apple blacklist??!
For the moment I've got a workaround, in that I've made Eno into a playlist - but surely there's got to be a correct solution?
    Any help gratefully received. Thanks.
    Fi

Did you ever get a sensible answer to this problem, I have a similiar problem on my Mac. I have one track from iTunes Store, which refuses to play on my iPod......have downloaded stack of music before, this has never happened previously!

  • IPod 1st generation not recognized on mac

Why can't I get any help with my iPod 1st generation? I DO NOT BELIEVE this is just a coincidence that my old iPod stopped working the minute I installed the newest iTunes. I have talked to apple and they say that it is my old ipod which is no longer under warranty. Are they kidding? Do they think I'm just going to go out and buy a new iPod?

I have downloaded the Shuffle Reset Utility but it
does not recognized my iPod. I have switch USB ports
numerous times. restarted my computer numerous times
and had an online chat with an agent at Apple that
lasted about 4 hours and I still can't get my iPod to
    work.
I had no problems with my ipod until I downlaoded the
new itunes. My Shuffle 1st generation is 18 months
old and no longer under warranty. Am I supposed to
buy a new iPod everytime Apple updates their software?
Given that the warraty ran out on it 6 months ago, and you appear to not have extended it through AppleCare, you're out of luck UNLESS you can resucitate your Shuffle.
ALL Of the things you've stated as having done don't include enough detail to let anyone HERE help you. Grousing about a dead Shuffle isn't giving us much of a foundation to work on.
NOW, does it charge (front LED lights orange) while plugged into a USB port? IF NOT, does it charge in a USB port on another computer? IF NOT... it D e a D.

  • IPod won't start with out hold on

Alright this is really strange to me but hopefully not to someone else. My iPod won't turn on normally; the only way to get it to turn on is to put it on hold. Then when ever I take it off of hold it turns off. I have tried restoring factory settings, updating, formatting and such but nothing works. I have no idea how to fix this other than to send it in, but I would rather not do that. Is there anything I can do, I am really clueless.

It sounds like you have done all you can, and if a restore using the iPod updater doesn't fix the problem, then this is most likely a hardware problem. At this point, I would contact Apple and see what they have to say. To find out what your support options are, go to Apple - Support and enter your iPod's serial number in the box near the bottom on the right side of the screen.

  • Canon MP180 scanner won't be recognized after Mavericks upgrade

    Dear Apple Support Communities members,
My Canon MP180 scanner won't be recognized after Mac OS X 10.9 (Mavericks) upgrade: neither in Image Capture nor in MP180 standalone app.
    The printer works well though.
    Any idea?
    Thanks a lot.
    Best wishes,
    Yves

    Well...
I asked Canon support and got the answer that OS X 10.9 (Mavericks) was not supported.
I am kindly being suggested either to downgrade from 10.9 or to buy another scanner. Cool.

  • IPod recognized on Mac computer but won't update!!! HELP!

I recently changed my computer from a Windows to a Macbook, and when I plug in my ipod it recognizes it on ITunes, and it comes up and everything, but then when I click "Update songs on Sarah's ipod" it doesn't do anything! What do I do??

There are a number of third party utilities that you can use to retrieve the music files and playlists from your iPod, this is just a selection. Have a look at the web pages and documentation for these, they are generally quite straightforward. I use Senuti but check the others out and choose whichever you are happy with. Once you have the missing files in iTunes you could restore your iPod on the Mac which will reformat it with the Mac file system and update from your reloaded library.

  • 80 G Video iPod (1.3) is recognized but won't sync with iTunes 8

After updating to Mac OS 10.5.5 and iTunes 8 my 80 G Video iPod (Software version 1.3) won't sync with iTunes 8 at all. That is, it starts syncing and within seconds the dreaded spinning ball appears. After that, the only thing left is to force iTunes to quit.
My iPod is in fact recognized, and I can adjust the settings. But it simply won't sync. So far, I have had no problem syncing my iPhone 3G (2.1).
I've repaired permissions, cleared caches, etc. etc., the works. I've re-apllied the 10.5.5. Combo Updater, re-installed iTunes 8 and as a last resort even resetted my iPod, all to no avail.
Please advise. So far I've seen many similar complaints but, unfortunately, very few answers.

One last thing I can suggest as sort of the Hail Mary pass in case the issue has something to do with the USB ports being messed up...
Do a reset the FW & USB chip sets on the mother board. Unfortunately, when you power down the computer there is always a bit of power still applied to the motherboard to keep things alive and this usually includes the ports to do stuff like detect when a device wants to wake up the computer. The downside of this is when a bus/port chipset goes into a weird state, locks up, etc., simply power cycling (shutdown & restart) the computer won't work.
So first thing to try is resetting the chipset and to do this you have to power down the computer and completely unplug the computer from the wall power (unplug the power cord to your Mac) and also remove the battery from your laptop. Also unplug everything from the Mac's ports (USB, FW, Ethernet, etc.) to make sure no parasitic power is still there to keep the chipset alive. Now let it sit for a minute (give those big power caps in there time to discharge). Now reattach the battery pack, plug the power cord back in, & start up the Mac. Now check and see if your USB ports & iPod work together any better.
    Best of luck!

  • IPod Shuffle not recognized on Mac or PC - Help!

So a freind of mine asked me to fix his iPod shuffle. He tried to fix it himself by plugging it into his Windoze PC and formatting it like a hard drive. I explained to him that it probably wasn't a great idea but at any rate, here we are.
I have access to a Mac Mini, and a PC both with the latest version of iTunes and the iPod Updater.
When I plug the iPod shuffle into either the Mac or the PC, it does not show up at all. It does show up in the Device manager of Windows as a Disk Drive but it's not accessible. It proceeds to peg the CPU at 100% and thoroughly bog down the PC. When I plug it into the Mac Mini, and run the iPod Updater, it tells me to "Plug in an iPod to update it." Problem is, the iPod is plugged in. This happens both on Windows and PC when I run the iPod updater.
Does anybody have any idea on what I should do to fix the iPod? I must admit, I've only had the Mac Mini for 1 day and my previous experience with the Mac OS was OS 8.6 on a 6400 so be nice :P.
    Thanks in advance,

  • Ipod w/color display not recognized by Mac

I cannot get my Mac to recognize a new ipod w/color display, which has previously only been formatted to a PC.
I used to have my ipod w/color display linked to my Mac, but, then it was stolen. My friend, who had the same exact ipod, gave me hers, which is the one I am now attempting to use on my Mac. She had it linked to an out-of-date version of itunes on her PC. I am aware this could be the issue.
However, on top of this, the new ipod has some battery issues. I have not been able to get my computer or charger to recognize it; when I plug it in to either it does nothing. It only works when attached to ihome or a car charger. I took the ipod to my local Genius Bar, who was able to get it to come to life when attached to their Mac. Ultimately, they restored it but told me that the battery was corrupted (they said that it was fully charged but the battery was still reading itself as dead, thus not turning on).
Why can I not get my Mac to recognize it? If I have it connected to my Mac, shouldn't it come to life when I plug it in? If I can't get it to come to life, how can I update it? Will a new battery fix any of this???
