Ipod won't charge using power block.

I bought an Ipod power block charger that connects into the wall and will charge the Ipod. when I hook everything up, nothing happens, the Ipod does not charge. I returned the power block thinking it doesn't won't and I exchanged it and got a new one, the same happens with this new one, nothing works. i tried different outlets. The wierd thing about this all is that I have a charger that plugs into the cigarette lighter in the car and the Ipod charges with that. I want to be able to use this power block though, what is going on? The ipod is a 40gb third generation Ipod.

Here's some info you may find useful:
iPods without clickwheels cannot charge over USB.
iPods with clickwheels will charge over both (with the exception of the iPod Video and possibly iPod Photo).

  • IPad won't charge using power adapter but will charge via USB

I have an iPad 1 that recently stopped charging using the power adapter. "Broken power adapter or cable" I thought and reached for a spare that I have. That didn't work either. The original power adapter however DID charge another iPad without any problems, so the problem cannot be with the adapter or cable.
Now this is the wierd bit - using the original cable plugged into my laptop I get the usual "Not charging" message but the iPad DOES charge slowly this way.
I rebooted the iPad, restarted it in recovery mode and restored the firmware, cleaned out the 30-pin connector port - all those useful bits of advice that you find on the internet but all to no avail. The iPad just will not charge using any of the many  original Apple iPad charger sthat I have been able to get my hands on but will only charge on an underpowered USB port!
The 30-pin connector must work otherwise it wouldn't charge via USB. Can there be some kind of wierd internal hardware defect that might cause such behavior?
I fear that if I take a 3 year old iPad to the Apple Store they might just give me their best smile and show me the latest iPads but this old iPad works fine otherwise and I don't really want to replace it.
    Anyone got any ideas?

Try this first - Reset the iPad by holding down on the Sleep and Home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider - let go of the buttons. (This is equivalent to rebooting your computer.)
And this - Unplug the charger from the iPad and then replug. May resume charging.
The quickest way (and really the only way) to charge your iPad is with the included 10W or 12W (5W on Mini) USB Power Adapter. iPad will also charge, although more slowly, when attached to a computer with a high-power USB port (many recent Mac computers) or with an iPhone Power Adapter (5W). When attached to a computer via a standard USB port (2.5W, most PCs or older Mac computers) iPad will charge very slowly (but iPad indicates not charging). Make sure your computer is on while charging iPad via USB. If iPad is connected to a computer that’s turned off or is in sleep or standby mode, the iPad battery will continue to drain.
Apple recommends that once a month you let the iPad fully discharge & then recharge to 100%.
How to Calibrate Your Mac, iPhone, or iPad Battery
    http://www.macblend.com/how-to-calibrate-your-mac-iphone-or-ipad-battery/
At this link http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/galaxy-tab-android-tablet,3014-11.html , tests show that the iPad 2 battery (25 watt-hours) will charge to 90% in 3 hours 1 minute. It will charge to 100% in 4 hours 2 minutes. The new iPad has a larger capacity battery (42 watt-hours), so using the 10W charger will obviously take longer. If you are using your iPad while charging, it will take even longer. It's best to turn your new iPad OFF and charge over night. In rare instances when using the Camera Connection Kit, you may notice that iPad does not charge after using the Camera Connection Kit. Disconnecting and reconnecting the iPad from the charger will resolve this issue.

  • IPod Photo won't charge with Power Adapter but charges through Computer....

Hi got this problem... searched the discussion board but didn't find any satisfying answers.
Hope somebody can help me out here.
    Problem description:
My iPod photo won't charge using the power adapter from Apple. Bought a second one won't work, used different cables won't work either.
however it does charge via the USB port of the computer.
And it also charges via the car stereo plug (forgot the real name but it's from the apple store).
So does anybody have a similar problem? Could it be the iPod that is defective and also destroyes the Power Adapter maybe?
didn't try a different iPod to charge yet. So that's one thing left to try for verification.
untill then maybe somebody knows help, and it might be just a little setting thing.
    Thanks for the Help

    hi Rene!
hmmmm. it sounds like you've already tried most of the things listed on these documents:
    iPod's battery doesn't charge
iPod: Troubleshooting the Apple iPod AC Adapter
iPod: About the Apple iPod Power Adapter
from what you're reporting, i'm currently most suspicious of the electrical outlets you're using with those adapters. if you try switching it to a different outlet, does it charge properly then?

  • My iPod won't charge - on any power outlet.

My iPod won't charge - it said for a while that the battery was empty (to the point of unusable) when I plugged it in, and left it plugged in for a a couple of days and now it will switch on but the battery is empty. I have tried resetting it (menu and middle button), and I have also tried to drain the battery and charge, but it does not work. there are no apple stores where I am /no genius bar so I can't go in store - and the model is recently refurbished - I swapped it out a few months ago - so shouldn't be facing any problems. Please help!

I have also tried charging it through several computers and numerous
    power outlets but none work.

  • My MacBook Air won't charge using the power cord and it's not the power cord that's malfunctioning. The battery is now exhausted.

My MacBook Air won't charge using the power cord and it's not the power cord that's malfunctioning. I went to Radio Shack and tried two new cords. The battery is now dead. Any thoughts?

Unfortunately, my battery has died as a result of not being able to charge with the power cord. Not sure what an SMC reset is but I have made an appointment to bring my laptop in to the Apple Store. Thank you for your response. Very much appreciated.
    Warm Regards,

  • 5G 30G Ipod won't charge or sync

My Ipod won't charge when connected to my laptop. It does charge when plugged into my car radio transmitter and dock. When I plug it into my laptop fully charged I get a message from windows explorer asking me if I want to scan and clean it to repair any problems. I have done this. It starts to sync with itunes (still fully charged) and then I get an error message saying the disk cannot be read. When I disconnect the Ipod there is almost no charge on the battery. I have restored the Ipod through itunes and reinstalled itunes.
I have replaced the battery and charged it again but I am still having the same problems.
I have synced an ipod shuffle on the same computer with no problems.
Any help would be appreciated! thanks.

come on guys? can anybody help?
I have run the manual diagnostics and the USB cable is recognized. I let the battery completely discharge for 5 days, rebooted it up and its draining power from the usb cable to operate, but there is no software recognition (other than in diagnostics) of the fact that the cable is plugged in. In disk mode it shows charging but does not recognize it is plugged into a computer. In normal mode it does not show charging or syncing. OS X does not acknowlede the ipod exists and windows does not recognize the device (several computers, all recognize other ipods).
I'm sure this must be a software issue but i cannot restore as i cannot get the computer to recognize the ipod! Help

  • Old ipod won't charge

Older ipod won't charge.  30 gig, white, I've shown videos on it, so it's one of the earlier color iPods.  I gave it to my mom 2 years ago and she never used it. I've tried a wall charger and plugged it into my computers, no luck.  I can't get it to turn on at all, so can't reset or restore.
    Thanks for any help!
    K Edmond

Checked some identifiers on Apple website, apparently it's a 5th generation.

  • My iPad won't charge using the charger brick

My iPad won't charge using the charger brick

you can try giving your device a reset and see if that helps. Hold down the sleep and home keys, past when you see the red power down slider and until you see the silver apple. Let it reboot and try. If that doesn't fix it, then time to move onto other trouble shooting.
Usually if an iPad won't charge (presuming you're using the supplied charger plugged into the wall), it's:
    bad brick
    bad cable
    bad outlet
    bad port on the iPad
you can eliminate the first three by swapping out chargers if you have another, swapping out cables and trying a different outlet. If you do that and eliminate the first three, then it may be the port on your iPad. If so, and your iPad is still under warranty, make an appointment at your local apple store and take it in.

What can I do if my ipod won't charge?

Find a more powerful USB port or buy a wall-mount charger from Apple.

  • Macbook Air won't charge or power on

My MacBook Air is 18 months old and won't charge or power on. Technicians diagnosed logic board needs replacing at a massive cost. Has anyone had similar issues or taken this up with Apple. They refuse to assist as warranty expired.

You are going to have to take the machine apart, and see what damage was done to the board that the MagSafe receptacle is attached to. Might be a single, broken connection. Might be much worse.

  • Hi- Iphone 5 wont charge using power cable or USB...I am using a genuine apple charger/cable..this started after I was prompted with new update for IOS 7.

Hi- My  Iphone 5 wont charge using power cable or USB...I am using a genuine apple charger/cable..this started after I was prompted with new update for IOS 7 yesterday. My phone is dead and wouldnt power up ..have tried resetting using itunes but i doesnt detect the phone and..pressing sleep/home button doesnt do anything

    Update
I guess that it just had a bad connecting port on the phone itself, no clue why it wouldn't work when plugged in both ways other than there is actually some differentiating between the two sides.

  • IPod will only charge using USB

hi, my ipod will not charge using a 110 or 12 volt charger, but will using USB - ideas? i restored and updated it.

If you are referring to the iPod Classic, it will only charge via the dock connector USB cable, either using a PC USB port or iPod wall charger. It also has a built-in safety circuit that will trip if the charging current goes above 1A at 5V.. So most 10W iPad charger will not work on the classic, unless it has a dual output port for lower current.
You can find these dual ports 10W iPad charger on eBay or Amazon.
    Have a nice day!

  • 4th Gen Ipod only charges with power block

I have 3 different 4th gen ipods, 2 of which will charge up when hooked to USB, firewire, and both my aftermarket Imode stereo and wireless car transmitter/charger.
One of the 4th gen ipods I have will only change when hooked with a firewire cable to the power block. It will not charge in any other manner. Is this a problem with the circuitry inside the ipod or something else? The battery seems to hold its charge just fine otherwise.

One of the 4th gen ipods I have will only change when hooked with a firewire cable
Are you sure it is also a 4G iPod? A 3G iPod (does not have click wheel) can only charge using FireWire. If they are all identical looking 4G iPods (with click wheel), the one that does not change over USB probably has a problem with it's USB charging connection. You could try using the Restore button in iTunes, but it seems like a hardware issue.

  • IPod Classic won't charge using MA242LL/A

I recently purchased a used MA242LL/A AV connection kit for use with my 120GB iPod classic. The MA242LL/A connection kit contains a connector cable with a firewire output, which plugs into the 2-prong power adapter, however, my iPod will not charge while resting in the dock (which is, in turn, plugged into a power outlet via the firewire cable and power adapter). Audio output is working properly via the dock, so that piece of the puzzle doesn't seem to be at fault.
Is the 120GB classic compatible with this firewire doc cable and accompanying power adapter, or will I need to upgrade to the USB style cable and a suitable adapter?

Is the 120GB classic compatible with this firewire doc cable and accompanying power adapter
    No.
