Ipod won't communicate anymore

I had to reinstall the operating system on my computer. I was able to download Itunes again and reload most of my music. However, now when I plus in my Ipod nano (older version) into the USB cable, Itunes and the ipod don't communicate with each other. Do I have to reload some Ipod software? I have a Dell Dimension 5250 and Windows XP home edition. Any help would be appreciated. Thank you.

See these.
USB drivers are not installed properly or are out of date.

my 5th generation ipod won't sync anymore to my PowerMac G4.  It worked fine, but when I installed a new hard drive it won't work anymore.  I've re-installed iTunes, the latest version for Tiger, I've reset and restored my iPod.  The ipod shows up fine in the source banner and I can transfer files to it, however when I unplug the iPod the files are not there.

Maybe try to repair the iPod's HD using Disk Utility located in the Applications -> Utilities folder.  If that doesn't help, try a low level reformat of the drive using the same application.  Make sure you choose Mac OS X Extended (Journaled) as the file system format.

  • IPod won't sync anymore after moving itunes folder

I just got a laptop and want to be able to transfer all my music from iTunes and iPod from the desktop to the new computer. I wasn't ready to do it completely but read that I needed to move the iTunes folder to a shared folder so that I could access it with my laptop via my network. I did not realize what the results would be however! When I docked my iPod to the desktop this morning, I noticed that my iPod was empty after it had updated. All 4000+ songs/podcasts gone! Ack! I noticed that iTunes seems to be ok, all the songs are there, except they all have an exclamation point next to them. Re-docking and trying to sync does not work. The music won't transfer. I put the folder back into the my documents folder but nothing changed. Even system restore didn't help. I am desperate. I am even willing to forget the idea of putting everything on the laptop if I can just get things to how they were. When I clicked on the exclamation point in iTunes it said the original file could not be found. I would hate to have to load each cd in again. Any suggestions?? Thanks in advance!

First I'll explain whats happened. when you moved the folder to a shared folder, then tried to update the iPod it wiped it out because iTUnes had no songs in it. All music shared over a network will not update to iPod, the songs have to be on the PCs harddrive.
What you need to do first is place the folder on the "Old" PC back to its default location in the "My MUisc" folder. It gets confusing because theres 2 iTUnes folders, one is named "iTUnes" the other is inside this one named "iTunes Music". So the "iTUnes" folder needs to be in the "My Music FOlder and the "iTUnes Music" one needs to be in the "Itunes" folder.
Once you have placed it back open iTUnes and make sure all the ! marks beside the songs are gone. DON'T UPDATE YOUR IPOD!!!! Since its already blank, you can use the whole iPOd harddrive to transfer the songs over. Hold down the shift and Ctrl keys. While holding them down connect the iPod let iTUnes open, and when it list the ipod, let go of the keys. this will stop an auto update from happening.
Now rightclick ipod in iTUnes, hit options, select "Manual Update". Now your iPod will be set to transfer. go here and follow the directions for moving the whole iTUnes library and songs to your new laptop. http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=300173
Once everything is transfered over you can rightclick the ipod and set it back to auto update or whatever you had it on and uncheck "Enable Disk Use"
I also see you have a toshiba laptop, iPOd has issues with some toshibas so this artical may also be of help if you have troble getting the laptop to see your iPod http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=300836

  • Ipod won't sync anymore.

I recently was at a friends house, and he had some music on his computer that I wanted on my iPod. I told him I didn't think it was possible to get music onto my iPod without my iTunes, but he proved me wrong and used another mp3 player (not itunes) to put some music onto my iPod using that program.
Anyway, I recently downloaded more music and put it on my iTunes. When I went to sync it to my iPod...iTunes still says "iPod Update is Complete", but the new music will not transfer to my iPod anymore. The only thing that changes is that my playlists get duplicated each time I try to sync.
What's going on? Was it because of what my friend did? How do I fix this?

Try restoring your iPod. Restoring will erase the iPod's hard drive, reload the software and put it back to default settings. Once the restore is complete follow the on screen instructions and it should connect to iTunes and give you a prompt to automatically update your library onto the fresh installation. If you want to update manually or using selected playlists choose no and it will default to manual mode and you can choose whatever setting you like: Restoring iPod to factory settings with iTunes 7

  • IPod won't run anymore

I tried out the linuxipod but it didn't work out too well, so I got the newest version of iTunes and reinstalled the firmware with it. Then it said, the iPod needs reboot. The iPod showed a loading screen an than ran completely black. Since that, I cannot turn the iPod on anymore, whatsoever.
The screen stays black all the time, you cannot hear the disk drive or notice anything else. Plugging the usb cable doesn't have any effect either. Since the iPod doesn't even turn on, it is also not noticed by the OS at all.
    What the ****????

    Try:
    - Reset the iOS device. Nothing will be lost
Reset iOS device: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Restore from backup. See:
    iOS: How to back up
    - Restore to factory settings/new iOS device.
If still problem, make an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store since it appears you have a hardware problem.

  • Some of the songs on my iPod won't play anymore. Why?

Since I got the last software update some of my songs won't play at all. Some will, but most of them won't. Until the update I had no problems. I've seen similar discussions all over the internet and none of the proposed solutions work.
    I've tried:
Converting my songs from MP3 to AAC.
    Restarting my iPod.
Many have tried restoring there iPods to factory settings, even removing there music from iTunes, putting them back on then re-syncing, but that didn't help so I won't waste a good 6 to 8 hours (considering my large amount of music.)
If it helps I have an iPod Touch (4th Generation)

Well, then the answer seems to be that you've got corrupted music files in your library. This is why attempting to convert to AIFF fails in some instances. The only likely fix is to delete then re-import the tracks - assuming you have the CDs. If you do this, you should sync your iPod between deleting and re-ripping. I have over 12,000 songs in my library (all compressed - though MP3), and more than 90% were ripped from CDs using iTunes. The occasional issues I have experienced have been resolved by re-ripping.
I have found that - at least on a Windows PC - I get better results if I do not run any other processes when ripping music with iTunes.

  • Ipod won't mount anymore with 10.2.8...?

Hi there I recently had to erase an imac G4 and re-install Jaguar on it. It is working fine now except it will no longer mount an ipod.
Is there a driver or something it needs that might have been automatically installed by software update in the past? It's running 10.2.8.
    Thanks

It depends on the iPod in question but many iPods need higher versions of iTunes to work, which in turn require higher versions of OS X.
    Which iPod is it?
    cheers

  • Surely someone knows why my ipod won't synchronize anymore ??

It plays fine. itunes plays fine. It simply will not synchronize. I have emptied it of all 13000 songs, factory restored it, and managed to get 4000 songs back on therre but now I can't even put one on there.
    Why ? Why ? Why ?

    - If not successful and you can't fully turn the iOS device fully off, let the battery fully drain. After charging for an least an hour try the above again.
    - Try another cable
    - Try on another computer
    - If still not successful that usually indicates a hardware problem and an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store is in order.

  • My ipod won't work anymore. ):

I am using a Mac that I got from my school, I am not allowed to do downloads so I couldn't update my ipod. I had my mom update my ipod from her computer. when she updated it, all my music was lost. I plugged it back in to my Mac, and when Itunes opened it said that I cannot use my ipod without the new Itunes. and like I said, I can't do any downloads. I reset my ipod just to see if the update would go away and now its stuck on a screen telling me to plug the ipod into itunes. Its only backed up on this computer, and this is where all my music is. I'm not sure what to do. help ):

What "reset" did you actually do? It sounds like you did the "Erase all content and settings". As you found out that does not change the firmware revision. You now have to find a computer with the right requirements to use your iPod. There is not legitimate way to downgrade. Sorry.

  • Help! My IPod 4G won't charge anymore!

Before this incident, I would've had to tilt my Ipod in some position JUST to charge! But now, since I can't find the exact "position" for it to charge, my Ipod won't charge anymore. And plus my IPod died too.

    Have you tried another cable?
    Another USB port?
    Another computer or wall charger?
Have you looked int the dock connector and iPod a looked for abmormalities like corrosion, bent contacts?

  • My iPod doesn't charge anymore.

My iPod won't charge anymore. I have tried charging via different USB ports on my laptop, as well as connecting it to various power outlets, to no avail. I also tried rebooting it, with the same result. The model number is MC544LL/A, and I have had it for about 2 years now. Any help or suggestions would be most welcome. Thank you!

    - See:
    iPod touch: Hardware troubleshooting
    - Try another cable. Some 5G iPods were shipped with Lightning cable that were either initially defective or failed after short use.
    - Try another charging source
    - Inspect the dock connector on the iPod for bent or missing contacts, foreign material, corroded contacts, broken, missing or cracked plastic.
    - Make an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store.
