  • Very frustrating.... iPod won't connect to computer or iTunes

I've seen other topics here posting similar issues, but I thought I would start a new one anyway.
Every time I connect my iPod to the computer, the "connected" screen pops up on the iPod, but nothing shows up in Devices on iTunes. Sometimes my computer recognizes it, sometimes it doesn't.
Up until a few months ago, I didn't have a docking station, so I connected my iPod to my PC quite often. I never had an issue with it. Now that I have a docking station that charges it, I don't connect my iPod nearly as often. When I do, I have problems. I tried downloading the new iTunes.... that worked.... for one time. Now it won't recognize my iPod again. So I tried re-downloading it again, still, nothing. I've reset my iPod; opened iTunes then plugged it in; plugged it in then opened iTunes; restarted the computer; and stopped the iPod service then started it again. Nothing helps; it won't synchronize and connect with iTunes.
Is this an iTunes problem or an issue with my iPod? Please help! This is really annoying.

    Hi,
I've had this problem too, but the support articles don't help. I reinstalled 10.6 multiple times but it did nothing, then finally downgraded to 10.4.1, which worked. Now it's doing the same thing with 10.4.1. Every time I've had this problem, the device manager says Apple Mobile Device USB Driver isn't working. I've reset it multiple times. I don't really want to have to reinstall again, any ideas why AMD keeps failing?

  • IPod won't connect to Computer or iTunes

When I plug my 5th gen. iPod nano into my Windows 7 PC, it doesn't show up in iTunes or My Computer. I've tried restarting my laptop and iPod, using a different cord, and connecting to a friend's PC which didn't work. Help please?

When you connected the Nano to your PC, did anything change on the iPod's display?  Did it appear to charge at all?
I assume you have worked through each and every suggestion in this Apple support document?
iPod not recognized in 'My Computer' and in iTunes for Windows
and connecting to a friend's PC which didn't work.
If the Nano is not being recognized by two different PCs, that rules out the possibility of an issue with your own PC and points to an issue with the Nano.  Check the Nano's dock connector port for any signs of damaged/bent pins or corrosion. If there is any debris lodged in there, take a can of compressed air and perhaps even a soft brush of some sort to dislodge and remove it.
Otherwise, you may need to take your iPod in for service or replacement.

  • Ipod Won't Connect To Computer Or Turn Off

I connected my ipod to my mac and the ipod screen turned to the usual do not connect. But the iPod icon did not show up on the desktop or iTunes menu. I unconnected my iPod and tried to turn it off but it won't. It continued to show the do not disconnect screen as well as being on hold even though it wasn't. This is the first time this is happened and I have had my iPod since it first came out. Any help would be great. Thanks.

  • IPod Mini:  Won't respond, Won't Connect to Computer...Help please?

I have iPod Mini, a little over a year. Model A1051.
It will not turn on, or restart.
When connected to the USB 2.0, the computer does not recognize that it is connected.
I've downloaded the iPod updater, but since the computer does not recognize it, nothing happens.
I know there is nothing wrong with my computer or USB 2.0 ports because I also have an iPod Video, Model A1136.
This iPod Video works fine, and connects correctly to the computer and iTunes.
Two days ago, my iPod Mini would not turn on, but when I hooked it up to my computer, through the USB 2.0, the "battery charging" icon came up and I let it charge overnight. The next day, the "restart" (apple) icon was flashing on and off every other second, and that's when I realized it was not registering in iTunes. Eventually, the flashing icon stopped, and at that point, the computer would not respond to toggling the hold switch and holding the center and on/off buttons.
Is the battery dead for good?
Is there some kind of warranty that covers this type of problem because it is a first generation iPod Mini (I heard that the first generation iPod Minis all had faulty batteries)?
If there is no warranty or coverage, is this fixable? How much would it cost?
Please comment if you have any suggestions...or the cure.

First, have you tried resetting it by holding the MENU and SELECT (center) buttons until you see the Apple logo while it's connected?
Your iPod came with a one-year warranty. Since your iPod is over a year old, unless you purchased an extended warranty, this will not be covered. Don't give up hope though... we'll likely be able to get it sorted.
As for the first generation battery rumor you heard - I have a two year old first generation mini that's still working perfectly.

  • IPod won't connect or turn on. Help please.

I have an iPod mini, I bought it in July last year, so I haven't had it for even a year. I've had no problems with it until recently.
At first, my iPod wouldn't turn on at all. I charged it and when it finally did turn on, the folder with an exclaimation point showed up. I've tried resetting my iPod, but when the Apple logo dissapears, a line just shows up then fades away and it goes back to the folder picture.
I've tried plugging my iPod in, to use the updater. But it doesn't even say that it's plugged in, neither my computer(Windows XP 2002-03) or my iTunes is accepting my iPod. So I can't restore it if the iPod Updates says it's not even there. I even left it there for 5 minutes, to see if it just needed to load or something, and it still didn't work. I don't think it would be the connecting cord, as after I tried mine I tried my sisters, same problem.
Sorry this was long, but is there anything I can do to fix it? Or do I have to take it down to the iPod store?
I wasn't sure if they'd fix it or not, because I got my iPod in California as a gift from my Aunt, and I'm in Nevada now. Would they still fix it if I had to take it in?
    Thanks,
    -Epona

See if any of these help.
    Try these.
    iPod won't turn on.
    iPod battery doesn't charge.
Your Windows PC doesn't recognize the iPod is connected.
iPod shows only an Apple logo and doesn't start up.
When restoring the iPod, it's often useful to put it into disk mode first.
    Putting iPod into disk mode.
If you take it to an Apple store, you should be able to get repair or exchange no matter where it was bought.
Just recently I exchanged some phones at a different Apple store to where they were bought.

  • IPod Classic Won't Connect to Computer or iTunes

My iPod Classic 160GB started to stop showing up both in Finder and on iTunes a few weeks ago. If I connect it to a wall charger then it will still charge, so I'm fairly sure it's not a problem with the cable dock or anything. I've literally tried every suggestion I could find, but nothing has worked so far. The iPod still plays music fine, but it won't sync with iTunes or show up at all in Finder.
I've already tried resetting it (both while connected to the computer and not) and switching USB ports (it didn't work on another computer's USB ports either). I've tried everything listed on Apple's recommended solutions to this problem. I'm mostly resigned to having to get a new device, but I wanted to check and see if anyone else had any other possible solutions. Once again, I have tried all the basic troubleshooting problems, so please don't give me those. I would appreciate any help you guys can offer, thanks!

I have this problem too please help.

Are you using the same USB cable that came with the ipod? Try to use another USB cable in case you didn't do that before. Did you check the docking port for any kond of debris or lint?

  • My computer crashed and I lost EVERYTHING, and my Ipod won't connect with the new Itunes I got without deleting everything on my Ipod. HELP!

Please help me, this is really upsetting. I really would like my Itunes to work. The message that pops up is saying that it will only transpher purchased items and I downloaded a lot of CDs so if you can please help me it would be lovely.

    Define crash?
    Empty/corrupt library after upgrade/crash
Hopefully it's not been too long since you last upgraded iTunes, in fact if you get an empty/incomplete library immediately after upgrading then with the following steps you shouldn't lose a thing or need to do any further housekeeping. In the Previous iTunes Libraries folder should be a number of dated iTunes Library files. Take the most recent of these and copy it into the iTunes folder. Rename iTunes Library.itl as iTunes Library (Corrupt).itl and then rename the restored file as iTunes Library.itl. Start iTunes. Should all be good, bar any recent additions to or deletions from your library.
See iTunes Folder Watch for a tool to catch up with any changes since the backup file was created.
If you've wiped your computer/bought a new one...
    You should be able to:
Transfer your purchases into a newly authorized library
Recover any other media using third party tools as suggested in this post from forum regular Zevoneer
When you get it all fixed, make a backup!

  • Help! iPod won't connect to computer

So, I got a new iPod Touch 5g about a month and a half ago and it was connecting to my computer just fine up until about 2 weeks ago when I updated my iTunes. I have an HP laptop that runs on Windows 8.1. I have gone through all of the steps that everyone keeps telling me. I've uninstalled iTunes, reset my iPod, checked my cable, which I know is not the problem because it works everytime I plug it into the wall, I have checked multiple times for a new update, and I've run diagnostics multiple times and everytime the same thing happens and I get the same steps which I've run through multiple times. When I connect my iPod it will charge but it won't recognize it in iTunes. I'm sorry if I sound rude, I've gotten extremely fed up with this because it happened to my last iPod aswell. Please help me.

  • Ipod won't connect to computer

when i connect ipod touch to my pc it show this error usb drive is not recognized
    i try
    If only "Unknown Device" appears:
Right-click on the "Unknown Device" entry, and choose "Properties" from the shortcut menu.
Click the Details tab, and in the drop-down menu, select "Hardware IDs"
If the hardware ID displayed starts with this:
USB\VID_0000&PID_0000      THIS IS WHERE ITS USB/UNKNOWN
This means that Windows cannot read the hardware IDs of the device, and so has replaced them with all zeros. This is typically caused by a faulty USB connection, or an incompatibility with your USB chipset drivers.
Disconnect the device, and unplug all USB devices from your computer. Shut your computer down, and power it back on.
Reconnect your device, testing each USB port for approximately 30 seconds to see if your device is recognized.
Test with an alternate, known-good 30-pin to USB cable if available.
Temporarily disable any "USB Enhanced Host Controller" or "USB 2.0 Host Controller" entries in the Device Manager, under the USB Controllers section. Do this by right-clicking on them, and choosing "disable".
Note: This may temporarily disable your USB keyboard or mouse. If so, disconnect your USB keyboard and mouse, if possible. Or if you are using a portable PC, connect an external keyboard and mouse, if necessary
After disabling USB 2.0 root hubs, reconnect your device.
If your device shows up in iTunes, try re-enabling your USB 2.0 root hubs by right-clicking on their entries in the Device Manager, and choosing "enable". If the issue returns, you may disable the USB 2.0 hubs as a temporary work-around, keeping in mind that sync will occur slowly, at USB 1.1 speeds. Then, consult your computer manufacturer for any updates for your USB 2.0 chipset.

  • IPhone 3g won't connect to computer or iTunes

I tried connecting my iPhone to my computer today but neither the computer nor the phone show any sign of connection. Phone is 3.1.2. Comp is running windows xp media center, iTunes 9.0.3 (or something like that). I've tried doing a full uninstall and reinstall of the iTunes program package (QuickTime, mobile device support, etc) but to no avail. The phone does charge when connected to the wall charger with the same cable, so it's not the cable. Any ideas?

Nevermind. Found the problem. The cable I was using was a third party cable that I got to replace the cable for my old iPod. Apparently, this cable worked to charge the iPhone, but not to transfer data. I just found the cable that came with my iPhone and tried that, problem solved.
