Ipod won't do anything

My ipod just stopped working. It has power, but the light stays on. I won't play and I can't turn it off. I tried to sync it with itunes, but it won't even sync. As a matter of fact itunes doesn't even recognize that it is even connected.
I don't know if this has something to do with it, but I recently downloaded itunes 9.0. When I was synching it the other day my ipod said synching do not connect, but itunes was saying the ipod was synched and its alright to disconnect.

First, make sure you're resetting properly. To reset, hold the MENU and SELECT (center) buttons until you see the Apple logo. It may take several attempts and is best performed while connected to power.

No one here said anything about an update or your device needing it.
FYI, you are not addressing Apple here, we are all users like yourself.
If the device is in recovery mode, the only option is to restore it.  All data on the device is gone.  This should not be an issue if the device has been used as designed and regularly synced/backed up.

Then it's time to take the iPod Nano to an Apple store or an AASP.  Whichever is more convenient for you.

  • My 5th gen Ipod won't do anything but show the " Connect to your computer, use itunes to restore" screen. However my computer nor anyone else's will recognize my ipod. What can I do?

My ipod will not do anything but show a screen that asks to "connect ipod to computer, use itunes to restore" My computer however will not recognize my ipod at all so there is no way to restore my ipod. I am not skilled in computers but if anyone has a step by step that would be great.

Did you try a hard reset with the iPod still connected to your PC?  Have you tried multiple USB ports, preferably high powered USB 2.0 ports?
To do a hard reset, first make sure the hold switch is in the Off position, then press and hold both the Select (Center) and Menu buttons together long enough for the Apple logo to appear.

  • My iPod Won't Show Anything But A Brighter Black Screen.

My iPod Touch 5g had been working just fine for the last 8 months, and even this morning. But, as I was getting into my car, I turned it on and nothing but a brighter black screen showed up. After a few tries of just pressing the on/off button it finally turned on. It worked for a while then, it just wouldn't turn on at all. When I got home, I plugged it in to the charger and it did the same brighter black screen. It's like it turns on in the background but doesn't let the actual screen show. I've plugged it into my computer and the wall, I've held the home and on/off button together but neither are working. It will also play music from my speakers if I press play on the speakers but it won't show me anything but a brighter black screen. Any tips?

Brighter black?  Black is black.  It has no shades.
Please tell me that it has NEVER been jailbroke.  If that's the case, here are some standard repair procedures:
First, try a system reset.  It cures many ills and it's quick, easy and harmless...
Hold down the on/off switch and the Home button simultaneously until you see the Apple logo.  Ignore the "Slide to power off" text if it appears.  You will not lose any apps, data, music, movies, settings, etc.
If the Reset doesn't work, try a Restore.  Note that it's nowhere near as quick as a Reset.  It could take well over an hour!  Connect via cable to the computer that you use for sync.  From iTunes, select the iPad/iPod and then select the Summary tab.  Follow the on-screen directions for Restore and be sure to say "yes" to the backup.  You will be warned that all data (apps, music, movies, etc.) will be erased but, as the Restore finishes, you will be asked if you wish the contents of the backup to be copied to the iPad/iPod.  Again, say "yes."
At the end of the basic Restore, you will be asked if you wish to sync the iPad/iPod.  As before, say "yes."  Note that that sync selection will disappear and the Restore will end if you do not respond within a reasonable time.  If that happens, only the apps that are part of the IOS will appear on your device.  Corrective action is simple -  choose manual "Sync" from the bottom right of iTunes.
If you're unable to do the Restore (or it doesn't help), go into Recovery Mode per the instructions here.  You WILL lose all of your data (game scores, etc,) but, for the most part, you can redownload apps and music without being charged again.  Also, if you have IOS-7, read this.

  • My screen is white. The ipod won't do anything. Won't even turn off. What should I do ? ? HELP PLZ

I was using my Ipod, sat it on my desk, turned around to look at something. When I turrned back around, the screen had a black apple with a line under it. Wouldn't turn off, so I held both buttons in and then it went off. without touching anything, it came back on with the apple, then it (the apple) started fading. Now I have a white screen. I tried plugging it into usb port, still nothing. It won't show up on my computer or turn off. Just sitting here with a white screen. What should I do? HELP.Somebody ? Plz ! ! !

    Try:
    - iOS: Not responding or does not turn on
    - Also try DFU mode after try recovery mode
How to put iPod touch / iPhone into DFU mode « Karthik's scribblings
    - If not successful and you can't fully turn the iOS device fully off, let the battery fully drain. After charging for an least an hour try the above again.
    - If still not successful that usually indicates a hardware problem and an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store is in order.

  • Something happened during restore and now iPod won't do anything

I have a 3rd Gen 10gb, and during a restore, the iPod just failed to respond, although I followed all the prompts at the correct times.
So now whether it is plugged in or not, the apple comes up and then the icon to plug in the lead to the iPod comes up then disapears. I have tried plugging it in, but it just doesn't respond, and it won't reset either.
Does anyone now what I can do to sort this?
    Many thanks

No, it doesn't have a firewire dock, just a dock connector that plugs straight in to my USB port, or AC adaptor
    Thanks for the suggestion though

  • IPod won't do ANYTHING, and isn't recognized by ibook

I have a brand new iPod mini. I installed the software, plugged it into my iBook G4, and the icon popped up in iTunes and everything seemed to be working...except that it said "Do Not Disconnect" on the screen and wouldn't go away...it was like that for over 6 hours. Eventually my computer went to sleep, and the cable was disconnected without being ejected properly. I tried plugging it back in and my laptop crashed. Now when i try and plug my iPod in, it makes a funny, quiet, high pitched beeping sort of noise...and the iPod isn't showing any pictures, or responding to any reset or restart methods. No pictures on the screen or anything! I've scoured the apple support website and can't find anything...and it's horribly frustrating! If anyone has any idea what to do please help me! (All my software is up to date as well)

Ok Rose, try the following instead
    1. Put your iPod in Disk Mode, press "Select"+"play" keys.
    2. connect your iPod with your Mac
    3. Open disk utility
    4. Click erase
    5. Restore the ipod updater

  • IPod Won't do anything (won't charge or connect to itunes)

I have the Same problem we always have this with tech in our house! I came to find this problem after using a faulty socket box, I hadn't noticed that while my iPod was charging in my Belkin USB Adaptor that the Red Light on the Adaptor was flashing (Power On and Off) consistently because of the power not getting through to my adaptor, so while reading my tech magazine there was a rather loud 'BANG' so as you do you go and have a look so I pushed my charger in to the socket harder and the light did not come up on my iPod or my Adaptor meaning that something was wrong with the adaptor... So I checked my iPod and it would not switch on or do anything for that matter!
Please help me on this one guys, i'm not usually the one struggling with tech!
    (I'm using a Mac not a PC)

Guessing its just me with this problem and nobody can help...
Will be taking it to the Apple Store soon if problem persists just hoping that it will finally spring into life while I do some work...
Surely there is someone out there with the same problem?

  • My iPod won't do anything - help!

I've got an iPod Classic, it must be 2 years old max now, but recently I've been having some problems with it.
For a while it's been making a funny noise and refusing to play certain songs, I just figured this was due to them being in a seperate format. However now I'm not so sure. I reset and restored the iPod, but now it won't sync with my iTunes library at all.
Looking around I've been seeing a few people saying that their hard drive has corrupted. I presume this is what has happened to mine, but is there a cheap fix at all? As a student I'm not willing to chuck out loads of money on something I could potentially do myself.. But any help would be great, thank you!

  • Fifth Generation iPod won't play anything purchased from iTunes!

My 30GB iPod video will not play anything that I have purchased from iTunes.
I just got it last week and this is really frustrating.
I got "Dave Chappelle: For What It's Worth" and the album "Liquid Swords" by Genius/GZA. The video and all the songs play fine in iTunes but my iPod skips through the songs not playing anything and when I try to play the video it goes black like it's going to start playing but then it just goes back to the menu.
I have looked through the support page and have tried de-authorizing and reauthorizing my computer, updating my iPod (it was up-to-date), restoring my iPod, removing the files from my iPod and putting them back on, re-installing iPod updater, running repair on iTunes, recreating your iTunes library, resetting my iPod, and even tried using a different USB port. All of which produced the same results as before.
If anybody could help me out here it would be greatly appreciated. I can’t believe it is this difficult to get files from iTunes to an iPod, aren’t these supposed to go hand-in-hand?!?

    Welcome to Apple Discussions!
First set of steps (These are general instructions. You may have tried some)...
Try playing the song in iTunes for a few seconds, then sync the iPod. Does it work?
Also, in iTunes go to advanced-->deauthorize computer. Now play the song. Type in your iTunes account information and password. Play a few song you have purchased for a few seconds each.
Sync the iPod. Do they work?
Also, make sure everything is up to date...

    Hello,
When you unplugged your iPod when it was done charging did you safetly remove the hardware from the computer before you unplugged the cord?
This is the SAFE way to unplug the iPod if you were previously unaware:
    http://manuals.info.apple.com/en/iPodFeaturesGuide.pdf
Also, I would try resetting your iPod, you can do so by:
Holding the center and the menu button in for 6-10 seconds or until you see the Apple logo.
    Hope this helps,
    Ms D.

  • Ipod won't do anything but restore

    Hello,
I've had my ipod for about 6 months now working fine. All of the sudden when I put a new cd on it, it needs to restore. Fine... but since I had itunes up my ipod showed I had all those songs, but they were empty. I restored it again, and now itunes no longer picks it up and all I can do is restore. It just flashes the do not disconnect screen. I have followed the procedures of switching ports, updating and reinstalling, resetting, and of course restoring. It worked great, now it does not work at all. Please help.
    Thanks... Patrick
