Ipod won't go dark since update

Ever since I installed all the updates and installed Itunes 7 my Ipod stays lit all the time flashing do not disconnect. It is plugged into my comp with USB. Before it would flash the same message but would go dark. I have tried restarting the ipod and also restoring the ipod. No luck so far. Am I the only one having this problem?
Jason

Guys, think this is normal and a "new feature" added to the new iPod Updater and iTunes 7, as long as your iPod is connected to iTunes with the "Do Not Disconnect" message on screen, the screen will first light up all so brightly but will go into a dimmer screen, but still lit.

  • IPod won't restore, format, or update

I received this iPod as a Christmas gift 2005. I received another one Christmas 2006 so I gave the first one to my 12 year old daughter (right after warranty expired). She has used it for a month, and now all these problems. At first I thought she may have uploaded a virus onto the iPod, either by song, or file. But I know if that was the case, a simple restore would fix it. No luck so far. Can anyone help? I have attempted to list below all the things that I have seen in the past two days of trying to fix this problem.
    -Error messages seen on iPod:
    Sad iPod icon
    “Please wait.
    Very Low Battery”
    “Connect to your computer.
    Use iTunes to restore.”
(Repeated in 3 different languages under the English version)
When iTunes DOES recognize iPod, these things happen:
System taskbar balloon says “Apple IPOD connected to USB”
    -Error message seen in iTunes:
“iTunes had detected an iPod that appears to be corrupted. You may need to restore this iPod before it can be used with iTunes. You may also try disconnecting and reconnecting the iPod.”
Only the "Summary" tab comes up w/ this description under:
(the picture showing is of an older iPod model-the picture of my avatar)
    "Name: IPOD
    Capacity: n/a
    Software version: n/a
    Serial number: n/a
    Format: unknown"
After I press the restore button (all other usb devices having been disconnected), it begins and then this error message:
"The ipod “ipod” could not be restored. And unknown error occurred (1418)"
I have taken a known working iPod apart, swapped hard drives. At that time neither work.
I have swapped batteries only…still does not work.
    Forcing into “disk mode” works.
SRV “Diagnostics” boot Sept 09 2006 (auto/manual) works.
    I have reset the iPod.
    I tried different usb ports.
I have restarted the computer with iPod connected.
When trying to update iPod w/ software 2005-10-01:
It tells me that the iPod is not mounted after it recognized that I connected an iPod...
or it gives me error message:
iPod Universal Updater has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience.
    and shuts down
I have also tried to use windows to format the hard drive, nothing happened.
I have tried on both my home computer and my work computer.
I hope someone out there has seen these problems before and knows exactly what I need to do. I really hope I don’t have to take it to a service center. I have tried to troubleshoot the hardware with a known working iPod. Maybe I didn’t do something correctly. But when I put the working iPod back together, it works fine Please help.
    Thanx in advance!

Yes, as a matter of fact I did see that article...and I believe I tried everything that it suggested. And other sites that I visited kind of made me think its something reading wrong, because at first I thought it was simply the hard drive that needed to be replaced, but then when i swapped with a good one and still had the same issue, I realized that it could be several things. But not knowing the complete ins and outs of the construction, maybe I did something incorrectly. Can anyone tell me how to reformat with a windows disk or something. Because at times I can get it to mount, it just seems to be a game and cat and mouse. One thing works, when the other won't. I regained hope when forcing into disk mode was successful. Not sure if that was false hope or not. But thanx for the suggestion.

  • Apple configurater won't restore backup since updating to version 1.2

Since updating Apple Configurator to version 1.2, I am unable to restore from a backup. I have supervised iPad 2s. Set one up the way we want and backup. Connect another supervised iPad 2 and try to restore. Fails everytime. If I restore from a backup pulled when I had the old version, everything works fine. It seems as if the backup is corrupt or something. I emailed support but the person who answered the email must work in the middle of the night. One question a day. At this rate, they will help in about a month.

    - Try moving the existing backup to a safe location and then try again. The backup is here:

    Windows XP: \Documents and Settings\(username)\Application Data\Apple Computer\MobileSync\Backup\

  • Ipod nano not being recognized since update

Ok, so everything was fine until i had to update my ipod nano(right around when the updated itunes came out). Since then, my ipod nano would connect sometimes, for a min. or two, or not at all. Now, it wont even connect, light up, charge, anything! It's not being recognized by My Computer, Windows, nothing.
I have tried reinstalling the software with the instilation disc, but all it did was pop up with an error saying im missing some file, and that only happened once. I know that its not the cable because the charger works and i know its not the usb port because other things still work in it. Also, i have plugged it into the back usb port, to no avail.
    PLEASE HELP!

Hey i am having exactly the same problem its really strange!! I have tried everything i can think of to fix it, reinstalling the USB drives and everything but it still wont recognise my ipod! HELP!!

  • IPod won't take 1.2 update from iTunes 7

Hoping someone can help. Upgraded to iTunes 7 but iPod won't take the 1.2 update. When the prompt comes up, I select install and it looks on my computer monitor like it's working, but in about 2 seconds the "Do Not Disconnect" logo on my iPod goes away, despite the fact that the computer is, in theory, trying to update the iPod. Eventually, it tires out and I've gotten the can't update error -50 message. Does the same thing when I try to Restore. Have reset, uninstalled iTunes twice, reinstalled and also reinstalled original iPod disc. Tried most everything on iPod support page.
Help? Also am seeing very little album artwork which I'm assuming is related.

    (1) next time you connect your ipod, decline to update and put enable disk mode. Then apply the update.
    (2) If that does not work, attach the ipod, format the drive, start itunes, restore & update.
    be warned:
Method 2 will erase out your ipod and require taht you reload all the music from your pc to the ipod.
    I ended up doing (1) with a nano and (2) with a 3G

  • IPod mini won't play songs since update

Recently, I had trouble using the Apple online music store, and couldn't preview any of the tracks on the CD I wanted to purchase. So... I finally downloaded the new iTunes software and bought four songs. The songs appear in my library, and show up on my mini, but when my "Shuffle Songs" gets around to them, they don't play. The title and artist pop up as if it's going to play, but it just skips over to the next song. The songs play perfectly fine from my laptop on iTunes, just not on my mini. And all my old songs are fine, just not the new ones I got after the iTunes update. Anyone have a similar problem??

I have the exact same problem. It just started doing this yesterday out of nowhere. I have been reading the postings and it looks as if heaps of people are having this problem. Do you know if Apple is doing anything to address this issue? I was thinking about trading this one in for a 20 GB iPod since they aren't even going to be making the mini's anymore.

  • ITunes store won't open and iPod won't sync after I updated to 10.5 on Windows 7

So I recently upgraded iTunes to 10.5 on my Windows 7 running PC and the minute I did that the store would no longer open up.  I get the "accessing" bar and it moves about halfway and then stops and disappears, then leaves my screen with a bunch of boxes and blue links instead of album pictures and what not (and the links don't work either).  I also tried to sync my iPod and this will not work either.  It goes through the "preparing to sync" mode and then makes it to "step 2 of 4" and freezes just after starting that, never to start again.  I've even left it running for hours while I went to sleep or to work just to see if it would kick into gear but the bar never moves again.  I've already configured the firewall to accept iTunes and I've done the whole uninstall/reinstall bit about 10 times, all to no avail.  I've tried moving back down to iTunes 10.4.1 and it works great, except that my iPod already got the update for 10.5 to go through so it will no longer work with iTunes 10.4.  I've been talking to a Tech guy for the past 2 weeks and we have tried a ton of things and nothing works, so if any of you out there have a solution please PLEASE help.  This is really driving me insane.

I have had the exact same problem since allowing the 10.5 version of itunes to update on my computer. I spent over 1 hour on the phone with the apple support team, and they couldn't fix it. After they couldn't fix it, they tried to blame my  Norton 360 security, even though I tried to explain to them that it is a Windows error, and it even happened after I deinstalled the security software. (and yes, disabled the Windows firewall.) I ended up deinstalling all apple programs, quicktime, bonjour, and itunes from my computer. I then googled "itunes apps. downloads" and found a website where I could download the previous version of itune for free. it's not ideal, but I was stuck in a situation where I couldn't use my ipod at all. I can survive like this until Apple realizes that we're not all crazy, and fixes the problem.

  • IPOD won't sync after latest update

I updated Itunes last night when prompted.  Now my IPOD Classic won't sync.  It says it's syncing but then stuff I deleted from Itunes is till on it and new stuff isn't.  In the new Itunes layout I can't see if tracks are checked or not or even see my IPOD settings.
    I hate this new update.

It seems obvious now but I finally, in frustation multi-cliked the IPOD icon that appears in the upper right of Itunes when your IPOD is hooked up. It brought up the IPOD menu and all my settings had been changed, so it no longer auto-synched checked items.
Apperently it no longer show the check boxes when looking at stuff already downloaded.  It grays unchecked tracks out.

  • 5th Gen ipod "double clicks" through menus since update

I recently updated the firmware on my early 5th gen ipod from the original 1.0 to the latest version 1.2.1. Since doing so it has a very annoying issue. Almost every time I push the select button in the middle of the wheel, it does a double click. That is, I select Music -> Playlists and suddenly I'm IN a playlist rather than looking at the list of playlists. I back out and choose Albums and instead of looking at the list of albums, I'm in the All submenu. This is extra annoying when it doubleclicks down to the point it's playing a song when I was shooting for a different song.
Have other people seen this? Is this a known bug in the latest firmware? Since this never happened before the update I have to assume it's a bug and Apple really needs to fix this annoyance quickly. In the mean time, is there a way to roll back your firmware to a working version? I never had an issue with 1.0, and now I wish I hadn't updated since it introduced bugs and did nothing else.

  • Safari won't even start since update to 3.2

I am having the same problem as lots of others I am reading about here. Since I upgraded to 3.2, Safari won't open at all. Just gives me the message that Safari "unexpectedly quit" before it even opens. I have been reading the posts and have tried deleting all the plugins (although I didn't seem to have the ones that were causing others trouble) I deleted all except bookmark.plist in user/library/safari. I even called Apple. She had me delete Quicktime, clear Cache, clear cookies. Nothing worked. She wants me to Archive & Install. Last time I did that I had a very bad experience (and it turned out it wasn't really necessary, anyway) so I am avoiding that.
So for now I am just using Firefox and hoping that someone will come up with an answer that will work for me.
    Thanks

    She had me delete Quicktime
An Apple employee told you that? You should never do that. Quicktime is a fully integrated part of the operating system and should not be deleted.
Rather than attempt a reinstall of bits and pieces I would also recommend an Archive and Install.
    How to Archive & Install:
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=107120
This document explains how to correctly reinstall a prior version of Mac OS X in the event that other troubleshooting does not resolve an issue:
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=25404
BUT: Don't install older versions of Mac OS than what comes with your computer:
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=25497
Once your operating system is functioning properly again you, and you have installed all security and Quicktime updates relevant to your system, this might help:
If your Safari keeps crashing, or if you are updating Safari (or just have):
N.B. Never delete Safari, never run it under Rosetta, don't use proxy settings.
(If you prefer to download updates via Software Update in the Apple menu (which would ensure that the correct version for your Mac was being downloaded), it is not recommended to allow SU to install major (or even minor) updates automatically. Set Software Update to just download the updater without immediately installing it. There is always the possibility that the combined download and install (which can be a lengthy process) might be interrupted by a power outage or your cat walking across the keyboard, and an interrupted install will almost certainly cause havoc. Once it is downloaded, you can install at a time that suits you. You should make a backup copy of the updater on a CD in case you ever need a reinstall.
Safari 3.2 for download can be found here:
    http://www.apple.com/safari/download/
Make sure you download the correct version for your system.
Also, observe the standard procedure for installing software: repair permissions and close all applications, install, then repair permissions again.)
Input Managers and other plug-ins from third parties can do as much harm as good. They use a security loophole to reach right into your applications' code and change that code as the application starts up. If Safari is crashing, the very first thing to do is clear out your InputManagers folders (both in your own Library and in the top-level Library), log out and log back in, and try again.
So, disable all third party add-ons before updating Safari, as they may not have been updated yet for the new version. Add them back one by one. If something goes awry, remove it again and check on the software manufacturer's website for news of an update to match your version of Safari. Remember: Tiger up to 10.4.10 used Safari 2.0.4 or, if you downloaded it, Safari 3.0.3 beta. Safari 10.4.11 used Safari 3.0.4 which was not a beta and which was updated to v.3.1.2, and now both Tiger and Leopard uses Safari 3.2. If Safari 3.2 is not the fastest browser you have ever used, then something is wrong!
(Trying to revert to a previous version of Safari can have repercussions, as Safari 3.x uses a completely different webkit on which other applications like iChat, Mail, Dashboard Widgets etc also rely, but if you really want to do this post back for instructions on the safe way to do so.)
Most errors reported here after an update are due to an unrepaired or undetected inherent fault in the system, and/or a third party ad-on. Add-ons that have been frequently mentioned here, among others, for causing such problems are Piclens, Saft, AcidSearch and Pithhelmet. If you have them, trash them and go the developer's sites to see if new versions are available for Safari 3.2.
You should also ensure that you have downloaded and installed the correct version for your Mac of Security Updates up to 2008-007, which is required for Safari 3.2. Like all security updates, these require a restart and a permission repair. Note that 2008-007 is a combo update: if you have missed a couple of updates this one will suffice.
To reiterate, Input Managers reach right into an application and alter its code. This puts the behavior of the affected application outside the control and responsibility of its developers: a recipe for problems. That's not to say that issues absolutely will ensue as a result of Input Managers, but you, as a user, must decide. If the functionality of a specific Input Manager or set thereof is really important to you, you may well choose to assume the associated risk.
Again, the advice is to remove all Input Managers from the following directories:
    • Hard Disk/Library/InputManagers
    • Home/Library/InputManagers
especially prior to system updates and updates to Safari (they can always be added back one-by-one later).

  • Ipod won't sync after iTunes update

After doing ALL of the things apple support said to do to solve the problem, it still is not fixed. I still cannot sync my ipod touch 5s with the new itunes. I reinstalled it twice, did the whole device support thing. It still won't work.
I did EVERYTHING. And it still won't work.
Can someone please help me with this? I heard something working for iphone, but not ipod 5s.
And my music was halfway synced when itunes stopped working bcs the update was done which basically means i can't listen to my music because as far as it shows on my ipod, the songs aren't on them.

  • My iPhone 4s with iOS 6 won't sync properly since updating my Mac to OSX 10.9?

Hi. I've kept my iPhone 4s using iOS 6, but I upgraded my iMac to OSX 10.9 yesterday and now it's not syncing properly. Can anyone help? Previously in iTunes I'm sure there was a radial button to sync calendars & contacts etc, but I can't see it now.

    Hi blu72,
Thanks for using Apple Support Communities.  With OS X Mavericks, you can sync your contacts and calendars with your devices using iCloud:

  • Ipod won't restore after software update

I was updating my daughter's iPod Touch last night with the new OS update. Everything downloaded smoothly, but when iTunes tried to restore her iPod, I got an error message that said there was a problem restoring the iPod. I have tried every single troubleshooting tip I could find and no luck. Is there anything that can be done without having to buy a new iPod? Any help is greatly appreciated.

Just some more information: I keep getting the "Connect to iTunes" screen on the iPod, and when I try to connect to iTunes, the iPod is not recognized at all. I have also tried the trick of holding in the Power and Home buttons at the same time; no luck.
