Ipod Won't Go into Recovery Mode

I tried holding down the home button as I am plugging it up to my computer, and I keep holding it after I get it in waiting for the Recovery Mode Icon to Pop up. But all it does is go to the home screen as if I turned it on. Help.

  • OS X Lion 10.8.2 won't boot into recovery mode

Help! OS X Lion 10.8.2 won't boot into recovery mode, I get a grey screen, the apple icon and the spinning symbol...Does anyone have any suggestions?
Have a MacBook Pro (2009) and had no problems until upgrading to LIon from Snow Leopard... thanks!

Hi there - thanks very much for your suggestion, it did reboot eventually but took a long time to get there.
I've have run Disk Utility. After Verifying the disk it said it needed Repairing - so tried doing that and got the message " Error: Utility can't repair this disk. Back up as many of your files as possible, reformat the disk, and restore your backed-up files" I have got Time Machine but haven't backed-up since Dec 12...Can I use "Restore" to copy the MBP HD to an external HD and then re-install Lion?

  • Ipod Touch Keeps Going Into Recovery Mode

Hi, I've had an Ipod touch for about 6 months now and haven't really had any problems with it to date. Recently (around the time I installed the 1.1.3 firmware), it seems to be randomly going into recovery mode.
When I plug it into my imac, Itunes says it detected an ipod in recovery mode, and I have to restore it. During the restore process the screen lights up with apple logo and spinning wheel, it says successful restore. But the ipod doesn't restart... just goes straight back into recovery mode. It usually takes about 2 or 3 restore attempts before it works properly. I resync and everything goes back to normal for a few uses. Then I go to turn it on and nothing... itunes just tells me to restore again.
Anyone else seen this issue before? I'm pretty sure the batteries aren't flat (since when it finally does restore, they usually start around half full... and I've tried leaving it on the charger for a few hours to no avail). And I only turn wifi on when I need it (usually turned off). I've tried pretty much everything I can find in the help files (hold button, hold+power, hold while connecting to itunes, nothing seems to wake it up... just black screen until a successful restore happens)...
    Thanks in advance...

I had the same problem with my Touch but it started the first day. It was also doing weird things like telling me the battery was full then half an hour later warn me there was only 10% left. It got better for a while but long syncs with iTunes usually threw it into restore mode again.
I finally brought it to the Apple store nearby and they were able to recreate the problem when they tried a sync on their machine. They told me it was a hardware issue and did an exchange right there. I have heard bringing it to an Apple Store will increase your chances of an exchange. Sending it in may or may not get you a new one. Good luck.

  • Why Can't I put my Ipod Touch 2nd generation into recovery mode?

I have an ipod touch 2nd generation. I set a passcode on the ipod and then i forgot it. i tried everything and nothing worked and eventually it got locked fully and says "connect to itunes" on it. This is a problem because i no longer have the computer that i last synced to. i have a new laptop now and i threw away the old one.
I know how to fix it. I just have to put it into recovery mode and then restore it.
For some reason, i can't put it into recovery mode. I tried all different methods.
these are the ones i tried:
    https://support.apple.com/kb/HT1212?viewlocale=en_US&cid=acs::itunes_help
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rm2D7-PCTaw
i tried a couple more but i lost the links of them.
when i try to do the part of recovery mode where you have to start up the ipod. it doesn't go into recovery mode. it just starts up and pops up on itunes saying i have to unlock the ipod in order for the device to connect to Itunes!
    Please help!

Nevermind! after countless tries, i was able to get it into recovery mode!

  • My ipod won't go into disk mode

i've tried and tried and it won't go into disk mode. it shows an apple then a folder with the ! and when plugged into the computer sometimes it'll say don't disconnnect for about 10 seconds and then it'll go back to the apple.
also it sounds as though the drive is stuck in a loop; a weird repetitive whirring sound when i hold it up to my ear.

If you can't get it into disk mode and restore the iPod it most likely needs service, especially with that noise it's making.
    Service request.

  • Update iPod on iTunes, went into recovery mode

I had an update on my iPod so when i was on iTunes it said to update so I did. It went into recovery mode, but i was luckily able to get it out (idk how lol). But i need to update it because my FaceTime isn't working and I am afraid it will do this again. Also when i try to update using just my iPod it gives me an error message saying it cannot update, any help?

The connect to computer and update via iTunes. See that topic here:

Make sure yo backup to both iTunes and iCloud before updating.

  • My MacBook won't boot into recovery mode after new hard drive installation. Please help!

I just installed a new hard drive. On boot it keeps on going to the flashing folder with a question mark inside.
I was able to format the new hard drive but am unable to boot into recovery mode to install the operating system over the air.
When I hold down Command -R it keeps on taking me to the flashing folder.
    Please help!

A new hard drive doesn't have a recovery partition. It's totally blank. You're going to need either your original install discs or a Snow Leopard retail disc from which partition, format and install OS X.

  • Ipod won't go into disk mode for recovery

This morning my IPod (80GB Video Ipod) wouldn't play, so I rebooted it, but it would not restart and it gets the red X sign. I followed the directions to get it to go into disk mode, but it still won't. It keeps going to the red X screen! I can't seem to find anymore help on how to fix this!!!
Anybody had this problem? How did you get it fixed, please don't tell me that you can't because I have only had my ipod for a few months!
How do I get my ipod into Disk Mode?!

For anybody experiencing the problem I described above, I have bad news and good news...
Bad news - The hard drive on your 5th gen iPod is shot if you are having the same problem as me with getting the "red x" and not being able to go into disk mode. It is irreparable...sad.
The Good News! - As long as your iPod is under warranty and has not had any water damage and can pass a visual inspection from an apple employee for physical damage they will replace it! Simply set up an appointment at an apple store with a "Genius Bar" employee. It only took about 5 minutes from start to finish for me to explain my problem, have the guy run like three super quick tests and then swap out my broken iPod for a brand new one.
    Good luck all!

  • I've accidentally apparently put my iPod Touch 4th Gen into Recovery Mode. I have not jailbroken. When I plug it in to my Windows 7 computer, it says that all values are n/a. I tried restoring and I got error message 2005. It won't turn on. How do I?

As the title says. Please, help me, I'm a little worried. Is it possible that I have somehow bricked my iPod?
EDIT: My iTunes is not up to date, I updated it last the week iOS 5 came out, it tells me that there's a new update. Could I need this update to restore to iOS 5.0.1 from my PC? Because I just did OTA to get to 5.0.1.

Never mind, got it to work. I stumbled around on Google for a while and somehow ended up reading things from the 'jailbroken' community. They had easy instructions to get out of Recovery mode. Thanks anyway though!
P.S. For anyone who experiences this, here is the fix: Hold Power and Home in unison for 6 seconds, then power on as normal.

  • My iPod touch won't go into recovery mode

I have a first generation iPod touch, with a slightly broken home button (I have to press it really hard to work).I had just erased the memory off of it, and it had rebooted. As it starts up, it keeps getting stuck on a screen with an Apple logo, wth a loading circle below. The circles spins for a few seconds and then stops.  I have tried hard reset (home and power button). I have also tried home and power button for ten seconds, and then just home button for ten seconds. I have tried that numerous times, while in iTunes, and while out of it. I really need some help, as it has no warranty left, so I cannot return it.
    Thanks in return,
P.S I really would apprecciate any help.

This program my place the iPod in recovery mode:
RecBoot iPod-1.0.2-Mac-Jaxov.zip - File Shared from Box.net - Free Online File Storage
