IPod Won't Hold Charge - Even With New Battery

I apologize in advance if this question has already been asked, but after a search, I could only find questions about similar problems, but not my exact issue.
I have a 5G 30Gb iPod that I purchased in November of 2005. The battery never has given me any problems, and I would charge it on average 2 or 3 times per week. Then, about one month ago, it suddenly stopped holding a charge. I remember leaving it charging via USB cable one night, then I uploaded my daily Podcasts the next morning, and after unplugging it, it would die within 30 minutes of use. I would have to plug it into the wall to build up enough charge to reboot as it wouldn't ever get enough charge from USB to reboot (it would always say "Very Low Battery" no matter how long it was connected to the USB).
Fine, since I've had it for nearly two years, I figured the battery probably needed replacing, so I purchased a replacement battery and replaced it myself thinking that would solve the problem. The thing is, the new battery behaves exactly the same way. I can leave it charging all night and the iPod will say "Charged" when I unplug it, and then it will be dead within just a few minutes of use. I'm wondering if it is some sort of firmware issue preventing the battery from charging properly. I have noticed for the short period that it will run off the battery, there is a "plug" icon showing up in the battery indicator so I'm wondering if for some reason the iPod always thinks it's plugged in whether it is or not.
I have also Restored the iPod to its factory settings to see if that would help, but it still behaves the same way. If I've eliminated the battery as the cause, what else could it be? I'm kind of frustrated because the problem seemed to happen all of the sudden. Anyone else experience an issue like this?

From your description I would say a part failed in the charge circuit. This would cause behavior in a new battery as you describe. You should consider having a technician look at. There are some good places on the net that will give you a quote before repairs.

Hi, Having a charging problem. Laptop suddenly shut down whilst using. Tried to start up but power light goes out and it shuts down again. With battery connected and ac adapter switched on the blue power light and yellow battery light stay on a few seconds and then shuts down, not allowing start up.
Took the old battery out thinking it was that and my laptop starts up fine using just the ac adapter as this is how I am currently posting this. Refit the battery and the power light comes on and off again every few seconds and prevents start up.
Have purchased a new battery thinking it was faulty but to no avail, exactly the same problem.
Left the laptop off to charge the new battery but noticed the blue power light and yellow battery light going on and off together every few seconds.
If I try to start the laptop up while the power light is on it starts to start but as soon as the power light goes out it stops. My thoughts are the charging unit inside my laptop is shorting out but I am no expert.
Does anyone have any idea what the problem is and would it be expensive to fix as I have just spent 48 on a e new battery.
    Thanks Mick

    >Refit the battery and the power light comes on and off again every few seconds and prevents start up.
Are you sure that the battery is compatible ? did you purchase the genuine battery from Toshiba ASP?
I think batteries from 3rd party retailer could not be compatible always so I would test the notebook with a battery recommended by Toshiba.
At the other hand it could be a motherboard problem but if the notebook start up properly using the AC adaptor, I would not be quite sure if its really a mobo issue.
    Try also this:
Remove battery and AC adaptor, press power button 30sec long.
Then insert the battery and connect AC adaptor and check if you could power up the unit.

  • Battery wont charge even with new battery

Tries two diferent maglink chargers...light stays green, battery remains at 0% .....despite a new battery. Tried most things. Any suggestions?

Have you tried resetting the System Management Controller? That is a good first step for power related issues such as this.
    Best of luck.

  • PowerBook shuts down even with new battery

My mom has a 12" PowerBook that she recently purchased a new battery for. Even with this new battery, the laptop shuts down seemingly randomly before the battery gets even down to 20%. They sent a new battery, and the laptop still does it.
    Any ideas?

Sounds like the power manager needs replacing. See these sources which may be able to fix it for less than Apple:

  • IPod won't hold charge anymore

Okay so I posted before under a bugmenot account, I didn't realize I wasn't logged into this one.
Here is the deal with my iPod.
I purchased my iPod on 01/07/07.
I was trying to use my iPod with my laptop that uses Microsoft Vista.
I installed iTunes 7.0.2 fresh along with the Vista Repair Fix.
I had all my music saved on my iPod (enabled disk use) and copied it all off onto my laptop.
I plugged in my iPod and was forced to erase all of my previous stuff on it since it can only support one library.
Note: enable disk space is checked
iTunes starts doing its thing and uploading everything to my ipod and it finally gets to about item 2200 out of 3000 which took FOREVER and then out of no where it gives me an error.
I look at my iPod and it says "Please Wait... Very Low Battery".
So I let it sit and after a while it turns off and the black screen with the white apple logo pops up and it turns back on.
Now it says that I have full battery (the little plug icon is showing).
I look through it and there are only 5 songs on it.
Meanwhile, Windows Vista pops up and says that the iPod is corrupted and offers to scan and fix it. I decline.
Instead I decide to just restore my iPod.
So I restore my iPod and all the jazz when it comes back on the iPod is no longer fully charged but it is charging with the little lightning bolt). I thought it used to slowly fill up the battery bar but I never paid that much attention to it. Now it just blinks from empty to full (green)
I get about 5 minutes into updating my iPod and I get the same "Please Wait... Battery is low" crap from before. I thought it was charging but I guess not.
I look at my iPod since disk use is enabled and I notice that I have two iPod Control folders. I can't delete either one though.
and I start uploading music again.
I get about 5 minutes into it and my iPod starts to beep and says "Please Wait... Battery power is low". Again!
I wait for it to do it's nifty "auto-reset" thing and when it comes back on I restore the iPod once more. After it finishes restoring, I check in Windows Explorer and there is only one iPod Control folder.
I start to update and I notice that after about 5 more minutes it says my battery is fully charged.
I think everything is going to work and it gets about 300 songs in and the same **** happens with battery low.
Any ideas about what is wrong?
PS - Sorry for double posting.

Apparetntly you didn't get the word about iTunes and Windows Vista. Have a look at this.

  • Ipod won't sync on laptop with "new" ipad

My ipod with 5,000 music tracks has always been used to sync on my laptop.  I have just plugged into the same laptop my "new" ipad, this has synced.  On inserting my ipod; it asks if I'm sure I want to remove all data and sync with the itune library - what?

Something happened and now the iPod things you are connecting to a different library/computer. See the following for making this "new" computer your syncing computer.

If all the synced media like apps and music are in the iTunes library it is very easy.

  • My iphone won't stay on, even with the battery at 100%.

My iphone 3gs keeps dying.  It won't synch or be recognised by the computer.  I spent the whole day yesterday trying and eventually it did restore and stayed on for a few hours but has died again, despite the battery being at 98%.  I tried holding down the buttons but that does nothing.  I got a new one 18 months ago after my first one broke down, so think my Applecare is done.  Any help with this would be greatly appreciated. TY

Take it to an Apple store or AASP.

  • My iPhone 4S won't stop rebooting even after new battery and restored

My iPhone 4S got a little bit wet on the top part. After letting it dry etc, it turned on and worked fine. Then it started constantly rebooting, it only stayed on when it was plugged in or when I was using it. I replaced the battery, still nothing. Then I completely restored it, and it still constantly reboots unless I'm using it or its charging!! Help!

You probably need to replace the logic board and possibly the flash drive.

iPod touch 2nd G won't hold charge. Restore does not help. Removed all apps and it still discharges even if not turned on and used for anythig. What gives?

If it is warranty, bring it back to the Genius bar and insist on a replacement.  If out of warranty, you can get a replacement iPod with a new battery for $79 at the genius bar.

    - If not successful and you can't fully turn the iOS device fully off, let the battery fully drain. After charging for an least an hour try the above again.
    - Try another cable
    - Try on another computer
    - If still not successful that usually indicates a hardware problem and an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store is in order.

just got a ipod 7th generation and having some difficulty copying tunes from 5 generation to new ipod; cant seem to sync old with new. any suggestions?

Plug your iPod in and when it appears in iTunes, click on it from under Devices in the left hand pane.  This brings you to the Summary tab.  Locate and click on the Music tab.  What configurations do you have made from under this tab?  Is your iPod configured to sync those playlists?

  • M9 Very Slow Charging Even With Quick Charge 2.0 Chargers

I have a continuing problem with very slow charging even with Quick Charge 2.0 chargers. For example last night I had the M9 plugged into a fast charger for over 12 hrs and it went from 5% battery to 87%.   I checked  the Settings - Battery usage history - and it displays "NO APPLICATIONS FOUND" - very strange...
Something is very wrong. I have multiple 2 amp and quick chargers all with poor charging times. I have tried each of these:

    https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00HP0FOCM/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o03_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1[/
The Ampere app displays varying charger power from 15 mA to 880 mA so I don't think it is accurate.
Testing with multiple chargers point to the problem in the M9. This is maddening. Seriously considering returning the M9.
    Any feedback?
