IPod won't load songs

Since upgrading to iTunes 5.0.1, I can't load songs on my iPod.
I did disk utility, reset to factory settings and now it will load a few songs then hang up.
Tried auto update, manual and still the same. Loads a few songs and then locks up.
Tried it with my laptop running tiger and iTunes 4.xxx and it loads songs no problem.
I've looked at the forums and see this is a popular problem with iTune 5 and fixes?
Apple screwed the pooch on this upgrade.

My ipod wasn't allowing me to load songs, then did and now it is stuck again it will load a couple of songs and then it will say it is updating but just freeze, the time also freezes on the computer. It will not stop the update if I ask it to and if I try to force quit itunes it does not work and the computer then will not restart - it is driving me demented! Does anyone have a fix? I have a 2nd gen ipod and am running the latest version updater, I have tried resetting and reformatting the ipod - it did nothing but delete what songs I was able to transfer to it! Am using tiger 10.4.3 and have run all the latest updates....

  • 4th gen iPod won't load songs; my 5th gen and Nano will...

I have a 4th gen iPod that was working with no problems until my girlfriend unintentionally erased all the songs when she installed iTunes on a new computer and connected the iPod. In the meantime, I acquired a 5th gen iPod and Nano and have been using them without event on my computer.
When I tried re-connecting the 4th gen iPod to my computer, the songs wouldn't load. I've updated iTunes and the iPod software to the latest versions and still can't get it to work. I've tried restoring the iPod numerous times and when I try to sync it (either manually or automatically) it says "the required file cannot be found". It has sometimes said "an unknown error has occured (-69)" which would mean something is wrong with the files themselves, but then why would my other iPods work fine using the same files?
What's weird is that the iPod won't load any of the songs but will load the names of playlists.
Does anyone have any ideas what's going on here?
    Thanks

    Hi, thanks for the response.
Yes, I did try the 5 R's a few times without much success, it seems.
And I did research the (-69) error message which on the site says,
"This error occurs when iTunes tries to send files to your iPod, but a file (or files) is unusable (something is wrong with it."
But like I said, I'm confused as to why one iPod would be happy with the files but my other one wouldn't. I've tried choosing random songs to put on the iPod (thinking maybe my first song in my library is corrupted) but no songs seem to load. The other error message I get is "The required file cannot be found". But why can my other iPods find them?

  • 3rd Gen. IPOD-Won't load songs from Itunes.

My sister gave me her 10 GB 3rd Gen Ipod, and it didn't come with the software. I used the Ipod updater and loaded the latest software. Itunes opens when I plug in the Ipod, but a window comes up that says the songs cannot be copied onto this Ipod.
All the songs have been imported from CDs, so I don't understand.
    Please help!
    Thanks,
    Jess

The message you got - did it go something like The iPod "whatever" is linked to another iTunes music library. Do you want to change the link to this iTunes library and replace all existing songs....
If so, you should click on the affirmative answer and then you can sync.

  • IPod Won't Load Songs Past 52

Ok, I have a iPod Shuffle and I have tried everything. I have reloaded and restored and even formated the iPod, nothing worked. I can not load any songs past 52. I have tried using different programs to load songs, but no success. Can anyone help??!!??!!

"Did you enable disc use and or adjust the "choose how much space will be reserved for songs versus data." in the settings?"
"Just going to mention that. =] Yes, to get to that, have your iPod plugged in and in the bottom right corner of iTunes you will see a little iPod, click it. Then in the window that pops up you will see a silde bar and make sure it is all the way on the songs side."
I can't find that on mine. The only thing in my corner is the eject icon. How do I disable for disk use?

  • My ipod won't download songs!!!

    please help me!
whenever i connect my ipod, it charges, but it won't load songs i recently added! what do i do????????

Check your update settings. Connect your iPod and click on it's icon in the iTunes source list (the narrow pane on the left). This will bring up the preferences tabs in the main pane on the right. The first tab you'll see is Summary, look for "manually manage songs and videos", if there is a check mark there then the iPod is set to update manually and you have to drag songs from the iTunes library to the iPod to load them on. If you want to update automatically you need to remove the check mark from there (I would also remove the "enable disk use" check mark unless you want to use the iPod as a removable storage device) and click the Apply button in the right hand corner:

  • Recently downloaded new ITunes.  Can't get my 3rd generation iPod shuffle to load songs in order.  Help????

Recently downloaded new iTunes.  Now I can't get my 3rd generation iPod shuffle to load songs in order.  Never had trouble with the old iTunes format.

I love the new version of Grid view but some of the other changes feel like they still need some fine tuning. And I miss cover flow even if I didn't use it that often...
You can restore much of the look & feel of the previous version with these shortcuts:
Ctrl-B to turn on the menu bar.
Ctrl-S to turn on the sidebar (your device should be listed here as before).
Ctrl-/ to turn on the status bar.
Click the magnifying glass top right and untick Search Entire Library to restore the old search behaviour.
Use View > Hide <Media Kind> in the cloud or Edit > Preferences > Store and untick Show iTunes in the cloud purchases to hide the cloud items. The second method eliminates the cloud status column (but perhaps it does more)
If you want to roll back to iTunes 10.7 first download a copy of the 32 bit installer or 64 bit installer as appropriate, uninstall iTunes and suppporting software, i.e. Apple Application Support & Apple Mobile Device Support. Reboot. Restore the pre-upgrade version of your library database as per the diagram below, then install iTunes 10.7.
See iTunes Folder Watch for a tool to scan the media folder and catch up with any changes made since the backup file was created.

  • G5 iPod won't load music

I just got a new 80G G5 iPod. But It won't update my music files. When I sync with iTunes, my videos sync as well as any Podcasts and my contacts. But none of my music files.
I did move my iTunes library to an i/o Magic external hard drive, but my videos are here and they are updating.
    Any suggestions?

    Hi miller2149,
What exactly happens when you try syncing music to your iPod? If you get any error messages, then please quote what that says.
Also, as a temporary solution, see if you can manually load songs onto your iPod, by selecting "Manually manage songs" under the "Summary" tab in iTunes, with your iPod connected. To save your changes, click on the "Apply" button in the bottom-right corner of your iTunes screen.
With your iPod set to manually manage music, now you can go to your iTunes library, and drag over whatever songs you want onto your iPod.

  • IPod Won't Play Songs, Videos Reset it, and it's Quite Sluggish

I have a 30GB video iPod (the old version). Everything was working fine until a few days ago, when the power on my iPod ran out because I fell asleep while listening to it. The next day when I turned it on, it said "Connect to your Computer, Use iTunes to restore" So I promptly did that, and it worked fine until I tried to play a video on it. It showed a blank screen, so I reset it by pressing the Menu and Center buttons. Then it showed the "Connect to your computer" screen again. So I restored it, and it would be fine until it locked up again and showed the "Connect to your computer screen" again. I left it alone for about eight hours, and when I tried turning it back on again, it was back to normal.I've seen that screen probably 10 times in the past 4 days, and I've restored it, just as many times.
Here's the list of problems I'm having:
    - the iPod won't play some songs when I click on them. It will show the Playing triangle in the upper left corner, but I hear no sound and the seeking bar doesn't move. I'll often have to click the Pause button, then hit it again to Play it, and then it will play the song.
    - The iPod is extremely slow. When dealing with songs or videos, it often takes a minute or more for the iPod to respond to my button clicks. Its hard drive isn't full, though; in fact I'm only using about 2 GB.
    - Videos lock up the iPod. Just about any time I want to play I video on it, it will show a blank screen and won't respond. Then I have to reset it and I get the "Connect to your computer" screen again. These aren't videos in the wrong format or anything, these are the same videos I've been playing on my iPod before with no problems, until recently.
    - Battery life is horrible. Although it hasn't been fully drained yet, judging from the power meter and how long I've been using it after it's fully charged, I'd guess it would only last about 2-3 hours. I would think it should last considerably longer, as the iPod is only about 3 months old.
Has anybody been experiencing similar problems, or know what I can do to fix it?

I've still had the same problems, but now when I try and turn on my ipod, it tells me to restore. When I do go to restore, itunes says that it cannot find the file needed to restore my ipod. The ipod itself also tried resetting itself, I guess, made it to the menu that asked what language I wanted it in, and then restarted again. This went on for an hour and a half, and I could't do anything. Is my ipod a lost cause?

  • IPod won't load video from iTunes

Hey there people, this is my first time posting in here and I really need a hand. I just bought a 30 gig video and I converted some files on my computer to mp4 and the videos are viewable under movies in my iTunes. The problem is that when I plug my iPod into my computer a warning box comes up telling me that I cannot load the file onto the ipod because the ipod won't support the video (or something along those lines). Is there anything that I can do to fix it?? Please help!!!
    Thanks alot,
    A.

What did you use to covert them? The iPod has rather specific conversion requirements where as iTunes is a bit more relaxed. So it is perfectly reasonable to have video files that will play in iTunes but are not right for the iPod (bit rate too high, etc.)

  • Ipod won't load new playlists?

I have an older 60gb Ipod (version 1.2.1) and have the latest Itunes software. Everytime I connect my Ipod to my (windows) computer I'm told that it's updated but the music, and specifically my new playlists, haven't been loaded to the Ipod. What do I need to do here?

hmmmm. it might be worth checking on the possibility described in the following document:
Windows confuses iPod with network drive or hard drive and may keep iPod from mounting or songs may seem to disappear

  • IPod won't display songs in MyMusic folder; can't copy songs to iPOd

I formatted my HD. I copied the library of the iPod back onto the computer into MyMusic. However my iPod won't display any of the songs that I recopied onto the computer. I was forced to reformat the iPod. My song library is in MyMusic the whole time but the iPod won't display any of it. How can I get my iPod to display the songs in MyMusic? I can't copy the songs onto the iPod as the songs are already in MyMusic.

Yes. I can see it there and play it as well...I just can't get it to transfer to my ipod from the itunes library. And it only happened with a few songs and I don't know what I did to make it so that it only trasferred to my library and not my ipod. But it is playable and viewable in my library and only when it is connected. Otherwise only the songs that are already on my ipod are viewable.
    Does that make sense?
Let me know if it doesn't
    Thanks so much

  • IPod won't play songs that were lost on my PC from drive crash

In January my hard drive crashed (Win2000) and I lost all the music on my PC. NO big deal, replaced the hard drive and restored my CD's, figured I could just play my purchased music from my iPod.
the problem is that SOME (not all) of my purchased music now won't play on my iPod even though the songs are physically there ... this started after iTunes 6 came out ... but different songs seem to play on different dates ... it is very weird. Today I sorted by "date added" and discovered that anything purchased between 6/22/05 (my birthday, coincidentally or not?) and 12/31/05 will not play on the iPod ... UNLESS I had copied the song to a CD and restored to my hard drive from the CD.
Songs that I have purchased since replacing the hard drive worked for a while, then wouldnt' work, but I could delete the song from my iPod and re-copy from my PC. Obviously this won't work for all the music that I lost though!
Music from this account is authorized for 4 devices so that isn't the problem, any suggestions?
    Thanks!

If you have made sure that both the iTunes and iPod software are current and have deauthorized and reauthorized your computer, try this:
    1. Deauthorize the computer.
    2. Create a new user in the system.
    3. Download the free song of the week from the iTMS in the new user account.
    4. Play the song in that user account to authorize again.
    5. Restore the iPod (using the iPod updater) in the new user account.
    6. Sync just the free song of the week and see if it plays on the iPod.
If it does, you appear to have a corrupted iTunes library file, and you should recreate the iTunes library file in your normal user account, and then sync your music back to the iPod and all should be well.

    How to restore the iPod.

Not sure what you mean by "devices". It's computers that are authorized for purchased music not iPods/

  • 30gb iPod won't load music

I recently got a new PC with Vista, I downloaded the new iTunes, authorized the account to work on my new PC. When I connect my iPod nothing transfers to the iPod. I loaded three CDs on my PC they are in iTunes, but I cannot get them to my iPod. My "old" music (music) loaded on my other PC is listed under my device, and is "greyed" out I cannot play that music or do anything with it.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks

"My "old" music (music) loaded on my other PC is listed under my device, and is "greyed" out I cannot play that music or do anything with it"
Grey text when you look at the content and lock symbol at the bottom of the screen simply shows that your iPod is set to syncronise (automatically update) with iTunes. If you want to access your iPod directly, drag songs to it, play it through your iTunes, connect it to a second computer etc. you just need to change the update method to "Manually manage songs and videos" in the iPod Summary tab and click Apply. The text will change from grey to dark and the padlock will disappear: Managing content manually on iPod
One thing to be aware of with manually updating is that it also enables disk use by default and the iPod has to be manually ejected before the "Do Not Disconnect" message will go away. Safely disconnect iPod
You are actually fortunate that your iPod did not sync as you cannot update automatically from multiple libraries or computers and your iPod would have been erased and replaced with the content of your new iTunes: Using iPod with Multiple computers

  • Help! Ipod won't shuffle songs, the song cover flow disappeared!!

Anyone, please help me. I am new to Ipod. I have 8 GB Ipod Nano, bought two weeks ago. I recently purchased more songs and currently have 50 songs on my play list on my computer. So last night after I bought the songs and transfered and sync all those songs, my Ipod worked fine (I could listen to all the songs, shuffle the songs, see all the cover flow, etc). This morning, after I fed my kids, I grabbed my Ipod and started listening to my songs and it worked fine - nothings wrong, until in the middle of playing one song, all of the sudden the song stopped playing. I thought the battery had died, but when I checked, the battery was still half full. So I went back to the menu button and tried to shuffle my songs but it didn't do anything/didn't play the song. My Ipod just showed that I have 50 songs on my shuffle songs. Then I checked the song cover flow, and it showed NO pictures of the song album (before this happened, when I check the cover flow my Ipod show the pictures of music/CD albums of a singer, but now it just blank!!). I already restart the computer, unplug the USB cable, restart my Ipod, re-sync my Ipod and still it doesn't work. I can't shuffle the songs, Ipod won't play the songs (though it shows that I have 50 songs on playlist), the song cover flow disappeared! I don't know what to do. Please help!! Thank you.

Ok so do the songs play and show up ok in iTunes? Were you playing the iPod through a set of speakers and not connected to the computer?
Have you tried performing a reset on the iPod yet? Or a restore on the iPod yet?
