IPod won't play complete Podcast

I have a 20GB iPod. Once in awhile I'll find a Podcast file that won't play to the end on the iPod. It's fine in iTunes. I've tried checking and unchecking the specific Podcast file (and re-syncing). Nothing seems to work.
This seems to coincide with times where my iPod won't update properly. I get the "Do Not Disconnect" on the iPod even though the iPod says its OK to Disconnect. I've set my iPod to allow disk use so I now have to eject my iPod manually but I still have the same problem with an occassional Podcast.
Any suggestions? Is it just a poor quality Podcast?
John

I'm having the exact same problem with my new iPod Nano.
It's happened with the Feb 19 and Feb 26 editions of this podcast: http://www.cbc.ca/ideas/podcast.html. There is no problem with these podcasts in iTunes 7. They are each a little over 50 minutes long, and on my Nano, somewhere in the early 20s of minutes, something happens (I think each time I've been fiddling with the volume control, but I'm not sure) and the podcast stops. When I try and play it again, one of two things happens:
1) The screen for playback slides about halfway on and then disappears and then nothing plays.
2) It starts to play from the beginning, but if I try and fast forward through it then the iPod instantly skips to the next item in the playlist.
I don't want to listen to the first 20 minutes again to find out if it would play past that point without fast forwarding, but given that it's happened with these two long podcasts that seem fine on their own (they're ordinary chapterless MP3s), I'm not eager to go through the frustration of getting further through long interesting podcasts and not getting to hear the rest.
I've tried deleting and re-syncing at least the first of those two podcasts, to no avail - the same effect happens again.
Help!

Ipod video classic 5th gen won't play video/podcasts or audio only a black screen with the play symbol and volume/progress bar. games work fine! any ideas?

    Here's some more info.
I tried installing the latest iTunes to my housemate's PC, logging into iTMS with my account, authorizing his machine to play my content, restoring my iPod to the factory settings, downloading the videos and copying them to my iPod.
It worked fine, and I can play my videos.
I have done the exact SAME thing on my own home PC twice, after completely uninstalling and reinstalling iTunes, QuickTime, and the Apple Software Updater. But I still can't get any videos downloaded on my home PC to play on my iPods.
    Any thoughts?

  • IPod won't play purchased music from iTunes Store

My iPod won't play purchased songs from the iTunes Store. They play on my computer, using iTunes, through the iPod, but my iPod won't play the songs with headphones, or in my BOSE speaker station, nor in my car using my Belker radio adapter. I've purchased a few songs before, and haven't had this problem. I wasn't prompted, as I have been before, to enter in a password before playing the songs.

i have the same problem, and i looks like there are another 4 or 5 discussion threads with the same prob. my ipod is about 14months old, got one of the first 4th generations when they came out -- have never had a problem, then when i downloaded itunes 6, all of a sudden everything i have purchased since then plays fine on my computer and just keeps scrolling thru and not playing on my ipod. very very frustrating. i have tried everything, right down to a complete restore on it, and nothing helps. also, when i downloaded itunes6, my purchased music playlist disapeared -- i spent 2 weeks and 5 emails going back and forth with tech support because they wouldn't address the issue, and am wary of going to them with this one. i thought the drive or memory on the ipod was corrupted and was going to buy another one, but now i'm not so sure -- is anyone having this issue with a 5th generation? because what it looks like is itunes 6 downloads may not be compatible with 4th G, and that makes me a little cranky. any one find a solution for this yet?

  • IPod Won't Play Songs, Videos Reset it, and it's Quite Sluggish

I have a 30GB video iPod (the old version). Everything was working fine until a few days ago, when the power on my iPod ran out because I fell asleep while listening to it. The next day when I turned it on, it said "Connect to your Computer, Use iTunes to restore" So I promptly did that, and it worked fine until I tried to play a video on it. It showed a blank screen, so I reset it by pressing the Menu and Center buttons. Then it showed the "Connect to your computer" screen again. So I restored it, and it would be fine until it locked up again and showed the "Connect to your computer screen" again. I left it alone for about eight hours, and when I tried turning it back on again, it was back to normal.I've seen that screen probably 10 times in the past 4 days, and I've restored it, just as many times.
Here's the list of problems I'm having:
    - the iPod won't play some songs when I click on them. It will show the Playing triangle in the upper left corner, but I hear no sound and the seeking bar doesn't move. I'll often have to click the Pause button, then hit it again to Play it, and then it will play the song.
    - The iPod is extremely slow. When dealing with songs or videos, it often takes a minute or more for the iPod to respond to my button clicks. Its hard drive isn't full, though; in fact I'm only using about 2 GB.
    - Videos lock up the iPod. Just about any time I want to play I video on it, it will show a blank screen and won't respond. Then I have to reset it and I get the "Connect to your computer" screen again. These aren't videos in the wrong format or anything, these are the same videos I've been playing on my iPod before with no problems, until recently.
    - Battery life is horrible. Although it hasn't been fully drained yet, judging from the power meter and how long I've been using it after it's fully charged, I'd guess it would only last about 2-3 hours. I would think it should last considerably longer, as the iPod is only about 3 months old.
Has anybody been experiencing similar problems, or know what I can do to fix it?

I've still had the same problems, but now when I try and turn on my ipod, it tells me to restore. When I do go to restore, itunes says that it cannot find the file needed to restore my ipod. The ipod itself also tried resetting itself, I guess, made it to the menu that asked what language I wanted it in, and then restarted again. This went on for an hour and a half, and I could't do anything. Is my ipod a lost cause?

  • Repaired screen and now iPod won't play

I replaced the broken LCD screen in my son's 1st gen black nano. It looks beautiful! There is a problem with the ipod now though. The iPod won't play. Everything works perfectly...screen is bright and beautiful, click wheel works to move through all menus, change volume, etc. You can choose a song, but the song won't play. The little triangle that stands for play is in the top left corner like it wants to play, but the status bar that tells you how long the song is doesn't move at all. You can fast forward through the song manually, but it won't play.
I have reset the ipod by toggling the hold button and pressing the select and menu choices from the click wheel. I have done the 5 R's that Apple suggests. I have even restored it to original facotry settings. iTunes can see it and re-downloaded all of the music onto it. All of the software on the computer is updated and the ipod software has been updated. Everything works fine except it won't play!
When I had the iPod open and was working on it, there were 2 ribbon cables that needed to be connected, 1 was the click wheel cable and 1 was the LCD screen cable. I have attached those securely and both are working properly except for the matter that it won't play songs. There was 1 other flat copper cable that seems to be glued to the click wheel that I didn't see in any of the pictures in the repair manual. It's not a ribbon cable. One end is still glued to the click wheel, but the other end is loose. This is probably the problem. I don't remember disconnecting this during the repair, although I know it had to be connected somewhere. I reaches up close to where the earphone jack is. Does anyone have any idea where this flat copper cable is supposed to be connected? I would appreciate any help you can give me! Thanks!

Here is the URL for the picture of the copper cable. The dark part at the end of the copper cable is a piece of silver metal mesh that is glued on one side of the copper cable. You can see that it is glued at the other end to the back of the click wheel underneath where the battery was glued down. I vaguely remember that it was connected to something else, but I don't remember disconnecting it because I was so intent on getting the ribbon cables disconnected without damaging them.

  • My ipod won't play any music

My ipod won't play music. I tried playing music with and without headphones and when my ipod is in the dock, but it said music was playing except there was no sound. Can anyone help?

Do the headphones work in another device?
Does the iPod play any sound?
Try the following to rule out a software problem:
    - Reset . Nothing is lost.
Reset iPod touch: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Restore from backup
    - Restore to factory defaults/new iPod.

  • IPod classic - won't play video podcasts

    Hi Community!
I have a shiny new iPod classic 160GB, and I love it ... except for the fact that I can't play video podcasts with it.
They play fine on iTunes, and my audio podcasts work great, but no video podcasts.
When I click on one, the screen goes black for a few seconds, then goes back to the menu.
    Please help me!
    Thanks!

Hi, I have the same problem, but videos i converted to mp4 under the iPod specs..
I transferred some and all played OK... decided to transfer more vids and now those freshly videos don't play
They transfer to my iPod classic, i.e no error message.
Then i browse my ipod try to watch a movie and the same thing as you, black screen and then the menu slides back into place as i have not watched it
I tried reset center +MENU, tried restoring ipod, now i tried "Create an iPod or iPhone version" and i got this warning
"One or more videos were not converted because they're on the right format" so the format or encoding is not the problem with my videos
I will reinstall itunes if that doesn't work i will defrga my hard drive if no then a itunes repiar... i hope something works

  • 1st Gen 10 Gig iPod won't play my Audible downloads

    HELP!
Just updated my iTunes to v5. I have a huge collection of Audible books, etc. I purchased over the last 4 years. I keep these in a different Folder-Library so I can add without having them all put on the iPod every time I turn on iTunes to update my 1st Gen. iPod (10gig).
Purchased a new book Thursday night from Audible. Noticed iPod was totally discharged (still original battery) when I plugged in the FireWire. So I charged it overnight. Tried to update next am & noticed Desktop G4 did not recognize the iPod. So I completely reset the iPod. Still wouldn't recognize the iPod. Plugged in, I tried the iPod Updater-(up to v1.5). Finally got iTunes 5 to see my iPod. Then I cleaned up my iTunes Library-all duplicate songs, multiple Podcasts and Audible downloads were trashed.
Thus, a clean music library of approximately 5 Gigs. I then successfully re loaded the iPod using a new FireWire cable.
The download from Audible was an unabridged book on File Format 3 of Audible- aprox 98 megs in 2 files.) Book was transferred to iTunes where I Playlisted it from main Library of iTunes into Audible Play list. Again, I updated the iPod.
Now the main Problem. The iPod. I can see the Book and click it all the way to play- where it freezes and merely shows the static title- no scrolling,,etc. Sometimes I can cleanly back out and play another music selection on the iPod. Sometimes I have to soft reset it while plugged in to get out of the selection
So I trashed the new .aa file and tried some of the old ones. Same thing. My ancient iPod sees them but absolutely will not play any of them. And iTunes is still acting geeky about mounting my Pod in the application. (I have it turned off as a disk image/ whatever- in iTunes preferences.) And sometimes having just recognized the iPod, with it still mounted in iTunes, if I click iPod Prefs in iTunes, Preferences will say there is no iPod attached. I've turned off all music sharing in Prefs too. (Not that there are any other computers networked and only one other User in the Desktop machine.)
I absolutely can not access any Audible content (.aa) on the iPod though it all plays fine in iTunes.
Although I'm smitten with the newest Gen. iPods I really hate to give up on my Original. Any suggestions/help will be deeply appreciated. Thanking y'all in advance, I am,
    John Patton IV
    ([email protected]) or
    jpiv2brn2b for iChat AV

    Hi John,
Here is what I suggest you do. Clear the iPod of everything, including music and Audible content. The iPod should now be empty. In iTunes, click on Advanced, and choose Deauthorize computer. Make sure to choose Audible, and proceed to deauthorize your Audible account. Once you have done this, go into the iTunes library, select an Audible book, and try to play it. You should be asked to put in your Audible username and password. Please go ahead and do so. The file should start playing in iTunes.
Now here is the important part. Go ahead and transfer that book over to your iPod. Make sure that book is the ONLY item on your iPod, including music. If it is, go ahead and try to play the Audible file. Chances are, it should be playing. If it is, you can feel free to transfer the rest of the content back to your iPod, as the problem is fixed.
Please let me know if that helps or not, as Audible is always looking for feedback. Thanks!

  • Ipod won't play any songs

Ok, had this problem for a couple of week's now and am at my wit's end on it. My 5th Generation video Ipod will not play anything. With both songs and videos, I select one and it shows the play icon but just sits there with the time at 0:00 almost as if it were paused. I can fast forward through the song but wherever I tell it to play it just sits there. No sound or anything.
The weird thing is that I can play the songs off of my Ipod in Itunes or hooking it up via USB to another device like my xbox 360 just fine. It's just the Ipod itself that won't play anything.
I am using the latest version of Itunes and have tried both resetting and completely restoring my Ipod several times, all with the same result.
Has anyone else run into this or have another solution that might help me?
    Thanks.

  • IPod won't play certain songs

    Hi,
I old iPod died during a firmware upgrade and I went out and bought a fifth gen video iPod. I thought it was great but it is having problems.
    1) When playing through playlists it comes to certain songs that it just won't play. The clock says 0:00 and doesn't advance. One can simply skip the song by moving forwards or backwards or going back to the menu. The songs play just fine in iTunes. However more and more songs are now not playing on the iPod.
They are not purchased from iTunes but are loaded from CD. So this is not the same problem previously reported. I have started loading songs back from the CDs but I do not want to go through this again a thousand times.
    2) If I listen to songs on the iPod (the ones that work) and assign ratings, the ratings are not transferred back to the iTunes library. Neither does the play count get update. I do not have it set on manual sync.
I have tried everything in the articles I have found. No luck. I still think the last software for the iPod is a bit flaky...
    Grateful for any ideas.

I have almost the same exact problem. The songs play fine on my computer (on iTunes) but some will be skipped on the actual iPod. When I attach my iPod and look at its library, the songs don't appear "ghosted" out but some have the little next to them.

  • Ipod won't play any files!

I am using a fully updated ipod and itunes. This morning my son accidently disconnected my ipod while it was flashing do not disconnect.I was using Anapod explorer 8.9.6.

But wait it gets better, there is a playlist called the name I first gave my ipod with all my songs in it only they also won't play.
The files are still there when I open anapod but it won't let me move them or play them either. I don't want to restore my ipod cause I don't have a backup yet !
    Please somone help me!

Aren't the songs on your computer?
As long as the songs are on your computer, you can
restore your iPod. Or, are the songs not on your
    computer?

No the songs are not on my computer.I only have a 40gb hard drive and my ipod is 60 GB. I have a new hard drive in the mail but I don't have a good backup as of yet.

  • My iPhone 4's ringer or alerts, texts emails videos on YouTube or iPod won't play sounds however when I get a call the sound is loud an clear. I know it's not a problem with the speakers. It once said that it was connected to a tv when connected to dock.

Recently my iPhone 4's sounds are going haywire. I have a Jensen radio iPod dock that I hooked it up to earlier on in the week(first time too) and when it played a song, my iPhone said that this video was being played on a television. Since then the ringer(at times) along with my texts, you tube videos and iPod on my iPhone won't play music through the speakers. However sometimes my ringer comes through. Same as alarms. When I try to adjust the volume settings it doesn't do anything. My speakers work fine. It's just getting it to recognize its not being played on a tv anymore that is annoying.
Does anyone have any clue what to do?
    Thanks

DaVBMan, thanks for that post. That clears up something for me. I think I have experienced that funny noise as well. It sounds like a Morse Code message. I have heard that same noise while at Church on it's PA speaker system. When I heard this, I figured the speakers were picking some radio frequency noise, but I couldn't understand what exactly it was. When I purchased my iPhone, I already had an old cable, stereo jack on one end and RCA plugs on the other. I noticed the same noise on my speakers. So, I am figuring if I replace the cable, I should be fine.

  • Ipod won't play through headphones anymore... and I JUST bought it!

I just bought my 5th Gen. ipod nano a week ago and was working fine. After I had used it on my ihome docking station, it won't play through my headphones anymore.... I use the ear buds that came with it- all the player does is imediatly play through the speaker- is there a setting or something where I can hear through the ear buds? I know I have the earbuds pushed into the jack all the way, I can actually hear some music in the earbuds (just not very loud). What can I do?

Sorry, allow me to ask you a question, have you tried to increase the volume of the iPod, if Yes, then bring it for service ... it is a hardware issue

  • IPod won't play purchased music after upgrading.....

    Help -
My boss has the 30g video IPod. He has upgraded his Itunes software to 7.0 and also upgraded his IPod to 1.2 (whatever the newest version is). He is not having the problems I have seen others are having but the issue he is having is that his IPod will not play his purchased music.
I did find this article (http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=303854) on the website and have tried everything it suggests to fix it. All the software is up-to-date, we have deauthorized and reauthorized his computer, and I have followed the instructions to recreate the Itunes Library. Still the songs won't play - he can navigate to the folder of purchased music on the IPod and it will let him hit play but it will just display the song and album cover and then keep skipping to the next song - never actually playing the song.
Can anyone please give me some advice for what else to try? If all else fails he would like to just restore his IPod and go back to ITunes 6.0. I tried this by uninstalling ITunes 7 and then installing 6 again but when I open 6 it says it can not be opened because the library was created by a newer version of ITunes. Can anyone tell me how to fix this?
Any help you can provide would be greatly appreciated!!!

I have this exact same problem since I bought my new 80GB iPod.
All purchased songs play fine in iTunes on my Mac but they just skip past each track when I try to play on my iPod. As mentioned above I have tried the advice Apple give and have restored my iPod and recreated library but I still have the same problems.

  • IPod stops after playing 1 podcast

I bought my iPod Nano mainly to play podcasts that I subscribe to thru iTunes. With 1 exception, this combination has worked beautifully. I like that every time I sync, the podcasts that I listened to gets removed and replaced with new podcasts downloaded by iTunes.
Here is the exception. When there are multiple episodes of a podcast, lets say "The Ed Schultz Show", Nano stops playing after each podcast and returns to the main menu! How do I get it to cycle thru all of the unplayed episodes before stopping and returning to the main menu? I picked this podcast because each daily podcast is broken up into small segments instead of one big podcast.
This may be a futher irritation - the episodes are listed in most recent first so I have to start at the bottom and work my way up. This is inconsequential at the moment since I have to select and play each episode singly but may become an irritation IF there is a way to make it play all episodes as I am trying to make it do. I want it to play chronologically as intended.
One possible solution I read about was to put the podcast in a (smart)playlist. However I can see a potential problem here. On iTunes, I have the podcast setting to delete all unplayed episodes of a podcast. However, since I only listen to the podcasts on the Nano, not in iTunes, it seems to me that iTunes thinks that none of the episodes have been played since all of the episodes are still there. So if I create a playlist to hold the podcasts (in hopes of getting them to play continuously), I have a feeling that one of the best features of the iPod/iTunes in playing podcasts would be defeated, i.e. automatic removal of all played episodes!
Any comment/advice would be greatly appreciated.

    Howdy,
I haven't replied back to this post yet until now, but I think I might have figured out what was causing the problem for me (or at least reproduced the problem reliably).
I have noticed that the problem is only present when I manually delete all individual podcast episodes from a particular podcast but leave the podcast title heading on my iPod.
If I leave at least one episode under each podcast title heading, the iPod behaves normally.
