IPod won't play mp3 files

Recently had to reset my iPod & reload iTunes incl my whole library. Now all of the mpeg song files won't play on my 80g iPod. They will xfer but won't play. B4 the reset all of my files played. I would convert them to AAC but i have over 11k songs-- i shouldn't have to as the player supports these files. It has played them all before.
The imports setting on iTunes is already set to convert to AAC but it never physically does it. It has never mattered before.
What settings, resets, changes can I make.

Aren't the songs on your computer?
As long as the songs are on your computer, you can
restore your iPod. Or, are the songs not on your
    computer?

  • Lumia 930 Xbox music suddenly won't play MP3 file

    OS version: 8.10.14157.200
    Xbox Music version: 2.6.414.0
I was listening with a wired headset, then suddenly it stopped playing (in the headset at least). Somehow the music continue playing in the loudspeaker with the headset plugged in. I stopped the music because seriously I'm in public. Tried playing music again and yep it won't play anymore, its just loading (the dots). So I restarted Xbox music, again it still won't play, and I am now getting an error prompt: "Sorry, we can't play this file on you phone. Error code: 8007045D". Of course, it played again after restarting the phone. This is not the first time this happened, its getting frustrating.

There might be two separate things here, not playing through the headset and not able to open the music library. If it is just one MP3 file not playing then that file is probably corrupted and you can simply delete and transfer a new copy.
However, given what happened during playback, I lean towards the file itself not being at fault. You don't say if you have restarted the phone itself, this might help because a simple temporary issue with the app is going to linger until a restart. Otherwise, check if there is an update for the app in the store, updating it would give you a fresh, unblemished copy.

  • Creative muvo tx fm won't play mp3 files anym

i have a creative muvo tx fm 52mb mp3 player. i bought it right before spring and have used it this summer. just last week i noticed that it will not play my mp3 files anymore.it will only play wma files. when i try to listen to the mp3 files it just plays a terrible static noise.
    can someone please help!!

What version do you have on there now? The latest is v.23.03 and you can get it from here. If you don't want to use that one because it will remove the FM Recording function go to a website called DAPJukebox and look for an earlier version there.

  • ITunes 11.4 won't play mp3 files but quick time plays them

I have a huge collection of music files from the nokia store which I got for free (an offer for lumias). When tried to import the music, Itunes refused to import some of the files. They are all mp3 formatted and QuickTime plays them. It tried converting the files with VLC and some of them were imported but the rest won't convert. Can someone tell me why the files won't import and how to import them? Also, can someone tell me how to get iTunes to automatically get the aong info?

Yes, you can change the extension sometimes and it may be enough to make something playable.  WAV can hold various codecs including mp3 encoded material (http://www.nch.com.au/acm/) and changing the extension to a wav that has mp3 in it may be enough to trick applications into reading the mp3 inside.  Of course if it isn't mp3 inside then changing the extension won't work.
I use a utility for a specific task but it produces only .mov from mp3 format material.  It is mp3 codec material in a .mov wrapper.  Now as far as I know there aren't any tools which will repackage mp3 codec in .mov to .mp3 without completely recoding the audio which is highly undesirable.  If I rename the .mov to .mp3 my lossless mp3 editing tool will accept it, though sometimes it needs additional laundering to get it to work smoothly.  The end result is a clean .mp3 produced without loss but it does involve tricking the editor into thinking it is working with a pure .mp3.

  • 20G iPod Won't Play AIFF files

It simply scrolls past them. Any reason for this? The same thing happens with Apple Lossless.

Why don't you try converting the AIFF files to Apple Lossless? I think you may have to burn the AIFFs to CD Audio, then import them, but I assume this would reduce the size of the file to a similar size to a compressed AIFF, and you won't lose the sound quality.

  • Safari won't play mp3 - only downloads the files

Very annoying, this: I am running Safari 5.1.4 on a Lion MacBook Pro (latest version of Lion), but for some reason it won't play mp3 files - it always ends up downloading them.
However, if I try the same web page with the same mp3 files on, say, Chrome, they play just fine.
    How can I fix this?

Thanks for the reply, but that's not what I want at all - it's too inconvenient.
I want mp3 files etc. to play back from *within* Safari, like it used to. Not sure when this was broken, but it is broken. As I said in the first message, playing mp3s etc. from within Chrome works just fine (I don't have to open another app to play them back), so I know this should work in Safari, too.

  • N95 won't play mp3

My N95 (Vodafone) won't play .mp3 files. I copied a gigabyte of tracks to my 2Gb memory card. The music player sees all the tracks fine but when I try to play one I get about a second of music & then silence. It appears to play (time counter moves forward) for about 20 seconds & then stops.
I tried copying a track to phone memory in case it was the card but the result was the same. These tracks play fine on my iPod & on my pc.
A .dcf file in my Digital Sounds folder plays fine.
Do I just have a broken phone that I have to send back?

    scoobyman,
thanks. I had a look at that but my problem is not with transferring mp3 files. I copy them directly to the memory card. The problem is that the N95 will not PLAY them.

    Hi David,
Thank you for your detailed question. It sounds like the real issue is pdf files. Are there any antivirus/firewalls that might be blocking this specific file type? or are there any preferences in your control panel that might be blocking this?
Do you have any stored preferences for PDF files in Firefox?

  • IPod Won't Play Songs, Videos Reset it, and it's Quite Sluggish

I have a 30GB video iPod (the old version). Everything was working fine until a few days ago, when the power on my iPod ran out because I fell asleep while listening to it. The next day when I turned it on, it said "Connect to your Computer, Use iTunes to restore" So I promptly did that, and it worked fine until I tried to play a video on it. It showed a blank screen, so I reset it by pressing the Menu and Center buttons. Then it showed the "Connect to your computer" screen again. So I restored it, and it would be fine until it locked up again and showed the "Connect to your computer screen" again. I left it alone for about eight hours, and when I tried turning it back on again, it was back to normal.I've seen that screen probably 10 times in the past 4 days, and I've restored it, just as many times.
Here's the list of problems I'm having:
    - the iPod won't play some songs when I click on them. It will show the Playing triangle in the upper left corner, but I hear no sound and the seeking bar doesn't move. I'll often have to click the Pause button, then hit it again to Play it, and then it will play the song.
    - The iPod is extremely slow. When dealing with songs or videos, it often takes a minute or more for the iPod to respond to my button clicks. Its hard drive isn't full, though; in fact I'm only using about 2 GB.
    - Videos lock up the iPod. Just about any time I want to play I video on it, it will show a blank screen and won't respond. Then I have to reset it and I get the "Connect to your computer" screen again. These aren't videos in the wrong format or anything, these are the same videos I've been playing on my iPod before with no problems, until recently.
    - Battery life is horrible. Although it hasn't been fully drained yet, judging from the power meter and how long I've been using it after it's fully charged, I'd guess it would only last about 2-3 hours. I would think it should last considerably longer, as the iPod is only about 3 months old.
Has anybody been experiencing similar problems, or know what I can do to fix it?

I've still had the same problems, but now when I try and turn on my ipod, it tells me to restore. When I do go to restore, itunes says that it cannot find the file needed to restore my ipod. The ipod itself also tried resetting itself, I guess, made it to the menu that asked what language I wanted it in, and then restarted again. This went on for an hour and a half, and I could't do anything. Is my ipod a lost cause?

  • ITunes Won't Play MP3 Attachment

    Greetings,
Are there iTunes Preferences that first need to be in place before playing an MP3 created in iTunes and received through the Internet?
I've created a song in GarageBand2 then exported it to iTunes, and finally converted it as an MP3 to email through the Internet.
Various friends tell me the song plays fine on PCs without iTunes, yet, one friend who is using an iMac/iTunes setup cannot play it! How can this be?
Any help would certainly be appreciated.

Choose a genre you like and download
any one file for testing. All the files on
Download.com are in the mp3 format. See if iTunes
    will play that file.
Let me know if you can play the mp3 file you
downloaded. If you can, then the problem is not
iTunes ability to play mp3 files but with the discs
    themselves.
    Tom -
I did what you suggested and had no trouble with iTunes playing the mp3 file.
Because you cannot see the discs in Finder and need
to shut down the computer to eject the discs, I
suspect there is a problem with the discs themselves.
Couldn't the problem still be with the iBook? The reason I say this is because I was able to play one of the disks before on the iBook. Now it won't play.
On the other hand, all these disks come from the same source and may be defective in some way as you suggest.
Have you tried playing the discs in another computer
    or mp3-enabled cd player?
As I don't have another mp3 player, I'll have to find someone who can test them and let you know. I won't bother you again until I find out.

  • SWF to play mp3 files located on the server

    Hello,
Does anyone know if it is possible to create an SWF file that can play mp3 files directly from the server, without the need for a streaming media server or external JS.
And also for the application to read the current directory its located in and build a playlist based on the files inside.
any information of examples would be greatly appreciated.
    Peter.

As for loading and playing the files there is no issue.  Simply load them as you would load any file.  You can even use a relative path if they are in the same folder as the SWF, or a sub-folder that is in the folder with the SWF.
As for looking at the server directory for what files are there, and using them - I know of no way to do this.  That doesn't mean it is impossible, just that I haven't come across a method in my experience.
What I typically do is to archive the list of files in an XML file, and load the XML.  I know, that adds an extra step, and an extra file, but it is the easiest method for approximating what you want to do.
    Let me edit this response.
You could use javascript, or a server language to grab the list of files in the directory and pass it into Flash via the ExternalInterface classes.

  • ITunes takes a few seconds to start playing MP3 files

I just started using this new MacBook Pro and transfered my music library to the new laptop. I'm having a problem with iTunes playing MP3 files: when I double click on a MP3 track iTunes seems to freeze for like 3 - 4 seconds before the track starts playing and then it plays normally without a hitch. This is happening with each and every MP3 track that I have in the library as well as new MP3 tracks that I'm adding. Th short delay/freeze also occurs when I try to view or alter the info of an MP3 track in the library, so that when I right click on a track and click Get Info, the 'Get Info' screen will take about 3 - 4 seconds to show up and the same freeze happens when I click OK to close the 'Get Info' screen.
Note that this happens only with MP3 tracks. Tracks purchased from the iTunes store (AAC) do not have this problem and start playing without any delay/freeze.
Another weird tidbit: When MP3 tracks are in the same playlist (or album) and I let them play one after another (without me skipping to the next/previous song) then the delay/freeze does not occur at all. This delay seems to just happen when I start playing a song or when I click the fast forward/Rewind buttons to skip to the next/previous track.
Does anyone know what might be causing this? And if a fix is available somewhere? Thanks in advance!

It only happens on mp3s not on AAC's to me too! Just so you all know. I thought an EXTERNAL DRIVE was my problem but after hours of research I found it's probably an intentional bug (just kidding Apple you don't hate other companies that much....geesh! ) It might not be this...but you never know.
I thought maybe it was the TAG but it seems this has nothing to do with it. Point is either Apple left a bug on the last update of itunes MP3s because to them it's less of a priority or it's being messed up by Amazon folders (still looking in to), or maybe there was a problem with the install.
So far my options are to get an MP3 to AAC convertor and dump my 3000 songs into a program for converting, wait for an update, reinstall, or keep looking for a missed solution.
    Any help would be appreciated!!

  • Repaired screen and now iPod won't play

I replaced the broken LCD screen in my son's 1st gen black nano. It looks beautiful! There is a problem with the ipod now though. The iPod won't play. Everything works perfectly...screen is bright and beautiful, click wheel works to move through all menus, change volume, etc. You can choose a song, but the song won't play. The little triangle that stands for play is in the top left corner like it wants to play, but the status bar that tells you how long the song is doesn't move at all. You can fast forward through the song manually, but it won't play.
I have reset the ipod by toggling the hold button and pressing the select and menu choices from the click wheel. I have done the 5 R's that Apple suggests. I have even restored it to original facotry settings. iTunes can see it and re-downloaded all of the music onto it. All of the software on the computer is updated and the ipod software has been updated. Everything works fine except it won't play!
When I had the iPod open and was working on it, there were 2 ribbon cables that needed to be connected, 1 was the click wheel cable and 1 was the LCD screen cable. I have attached those securely and both are working properly except for the matter that it won't play songs. There was 1 other flat copper cable that seems to be glued to the click wheel that I didn't see in any of the pictures in the repair manual. It's not a ribbon cable. One end is still glued to the click wheel, but the other end is loose. This is probably the problem. I don't remember disconnecting this during the repair, although I know it had to be connected somewhere. I reaches up close to where the earphone jack is. Does anyone have any idea where this flat copper cable is supposed to be connected? I would appreciate any help you can give me! Thanks!
iPod 1st gen black nano   Windows XP

Here is the URL for the picture of the copper cable. The dark part at the end of the copper cable is a piece of silver metal mesh that is glued on one side of the copper cable. You can see that it is glued at the other end to the back of the click wheel underneath where the battery was glued down. I vaguely remember that it was connected to something else, but I don't remember disconnecting it because I was so intent on getting the ribbon cables disconnected without damaging them.
