IPOD won't respond or connect

a week ago my shuffle stopped working. it wouldnt charge from a wall charger and the computer didnt recognize it. i let it sit for a few days and finally it responded to the wall charger. I fully charged it and used it a couple of times. then it stopped responding again. Same thing. compter wont recognize it (computer doesnt see it and no light on IPOD) and it doesnt respond to the wall charger. I know the computer and charger both work fine because another shuffle responds normally. any ideas?

Perhaps the battery is/was on its last legs.

Place the iOS device in Recovery Mode and then connect to your computer and restore via iTunes. The iPod will be erased.

    - If not successful and you can't fully turn the iOS device fully off, let the battery fully drain. After charging for an least an hour try the above again.
    - If still not successful that usually indicates a hardware problem and an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store is in order.

  • Ipod won't respond to anything

I have a 20g ipod with click wheel and color screen.
First, my ipod wouldn't be roconized by my itunes. No icon came up in the source list. Nothing would happen when I would connect to my imac.
Now, my ipod won't stop flashing the do not disconnect symbol.
I have tried resetting my ipod but it won't respond to that either.
The only thing that seems to change on it is when I plug it into an electrical outlet, the battery changes to charging mode. The battery was low but still green, is that part of the problem?
    can anyone help?

I did that last night and nothing works. I know I don't have a dead battery because it was fully charged yesterday.
besides, when I plug it into something, nothing comes up; not even the little "charging" symbol.

  • 2nd gen ipod won't restart or connect to itunes

My ipod sometimes won't be recognized by any computer if it's been connected to a non-computer usb port like a wall charger. This is normally fixed by reseting the ipod nano (toggle hold then press & hold menu + play/pause) but now the ipod won't reset using this method (I've tried multiple times). Is there a way to fix either of these problems?

  • Help! iPod won't work or connect to XP

Please choose the appropriate forum for this topic. Thank you. All the music was erased off my 5G 30GB iPod Video last week for some reason (interestingly, the photos were still there). When connected to iTunes, it gave me an error message about needing to "reinstall the iPod software."
Today, I got a new hard drive and installed XP Pro on it. I connected the iPod via USB and the little taskbar bubble popped up saying "Found new hardware -- iPod." Next, I installed the iPod + iTunes software from the CD, restarted the PC and run iTunes. My PC and iTunes didn't indicate that the iPod was connected, so I plugged the USB cable into another slot -- nothing. (I know it isn't the USB because I plugged in a thumb drive and it works fine). I've also tried to update/restore the iPod... but alas, I can't because it's not recognized.
What happened to the iPod is even stranger. After the hard drive was wiped, I was able to turn it on and off and view photos. Now, it only displays the white Apple logo with the black background. The backlight keeps switching on and off randomly, the iPod won't turn off, and the hard drive is making the same noise it does when you change a song, only every few seconds (I assume it's doing this because it keeps turning the backlight on and off constantly).
I've only been able to use the iPod one week out of the two weeks I've had it -- and I'm really disappointed about it. Will I have to send it back to Apple? (hopefully under the 30 or 90 day warranty, whichever I qualify for)
    Help is appreciated.

5G Video 30GB   Windows XP Pro

In order to restore it, it has to show up on the desktop, I think. It doesn't. I downloaded the software, and it's waiting for me to plug in the iPod (which is plugged in).
I actually have been reseting it every minute or so since I read your post. Before I restore it, the battery icon doesn't show any lightning bolt or motion. Then if I restore it, it appears to be charging for a short time. I was wondering if I was going to have to charge it in lots of short increments (I don't have the optional charger).
I dug out the manual from under the desk. And it says that if it is extremely low on power, I may need to leave it charging for 30 minutes before it is recognized. I think from a sentence in there: "Leave iPod mini connected until at least the battery icon animates." So, maybe it is actually charging when it appears to be unconnected and has no lightening bolt.
I've turned it off and left it plugged in and am waiting for a charging battery icon to appear. If that doesn't work, I will try leaving it on and plugged in (so far it just turns off when I do that). Again, any suggestions are welcome.

  • My iPods won't respond or display anything

I have two iPod touches that both went out at the same time.  They just won't respond to anything.  I have tried the methods in the troubleshooting section to turn them off but nothing happens.
They don't appear to charge at all when I plug them into the wall adapter (I have tried three different ones, and confirmed them all work with my classic ipod) and they just don't respond at all.  I have held the home button and the sleep button simultaneously for over 2 minutes many times, and nothing happens.  When i plug them into the computer, nothing happens either... no chime to tell me a usb device was plugged in and no confirmation from itunes that anything was plugged in.
Whats strange is that, when I plugged it into the car charger this morning, I got the recovery image on one of them instructing me to plug it into my pc for itunes to recover it.  By the time I made it inside, it went away and I was unable to recover it.  I was thinking maybe I need to let them drain again until the battery is completely depleted, but without indication of how much battery is left, i could be waiting for a month.
Does anyone have any suggestions or ideas?

  • My ipod won't respond

I just recently purchased my nano. As instructed I loaded the software, but the ipod still isn't responding. I did the three RRRs as instructed and kept reloading the software, but still nothing. When I went to the device manager, it shows the ipod but it has this yellow exclamation point on top of the words ipod. After viewing the ipod properties it says "the drivers for this device are not installed (code 28). To reinstall the drivers for this device click Reinstall Driver." I click okay to reinstall the driver, put the ipod software cd back into the cd drive and it says it doesn't recognize it. The Ipod Updater will not recognize that the ipod is connected. I open iTunes and the ipod is still not showing. Can anyone help because I'm about ready to throw this darn ipod out into the swimming pool.

    Hey, thanks mazmedia.
I went through the entire post that you listed, but still my ipod will not open up in itunes and I can't even update it. So, I called the 1-800 # again and the rep had me go through my computer to make sure I had the appropriate hardware, which I do. After, we checked the device manager and looked at the USB controllers. The tech told me I need a USB 2.0 Hub to operate my ipod. Since I initially connected my ipod to my girl friend's Mac my computer system is not picking up the ipod. So, before I go to a computer store, and spend more money to get my ipod working, can someone tell me if getting a USB 2.0 Hub placed on my system, will do the trick.
People I'm desperate at this point because I'm ready to toss this pod in the pool.

My iPod was currently dropped in water but it still works. Now when I restored it it worked but my proble is that it won't let me connect to wifi. It's almost as if it'ss restricted but it's not.

    Try:

least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Power off and then back on the router

  • My iPod won't respond to anything!!

my 20GB iPod has been working fine since I got my new one in July. Just last night, however, it wouldn't respond to anything. I tried everything and I followed all of the instructions in the "iPod Help" section of iTunes. when I plug my iPod into the wall charger, it won't do anything; when I plug it into my computer, it won't do anything. it won't turn on at all! I have no idea what to do.

  • Ipod won't recognize internet connection to update 1.2

I downloaded and updated to itunes 7 and the summary tab informs me that new software is available to update my ipod software. When I click on ipdate however it refuses to recognize my internet connection. I am online while this occurs. Since many of my video files just purchased seem to require this software (unless my tv shows won't sync for some other reason)this has been very fustrating.

    Hi,
I too am having this exact problem. Please let me know if you have gotten any assistance on this.

  • IPod won't update, says connection time out

I'm writing this for a friend i do a lot of computer help for.
His iPod Touch (first gen) will not update, consequentially he cannot update his new applications.
I would hate to restore it and wipe out everything but thus far, that's what I'm thinking we may have to do.
Any recommendations? It keeps saying that the connection timed out when downloading the 2.2 software.

You'll just have to make sure the playlists equal less tahn 20 (18.7) GB. This may mean cutting or two playlists down in size, or cutting one or two playlists.
Once you do that, go to edit\prefs\iPod, and check the boxes by all of the playlists totalling less than 20 GB.

  • Ipod won't unlock or connect to Itunes?

Okay so when i switched on my laptop about half an hour ago the first thing i did was connect my ipod to itunes, itunes refused to open so i disconnected the ipod, Itunes now runs smoothly-
However, my Ipod classic 6th Gen (which i literally brought on Thursday) is displaying the lock button- it had been locked prior to connecting to itunes but now it seems frozen that way
I tried to connect to itunes again but the system wouldn't recognise the ipod, however when i disconnected a notification showed up telling me that the ipod was potentially corrupted and should restore it
any advice? I'm at my wits end here!
