IPod won't stay in standby mode

When I turn off the iPod by holding down the play button, it does go into standby mode, but only for a very short time.
But if it's off for more than a few minutes, it always restarts whenever I turn it back on, meaning it shows that apple logo for quite a while, and starts at the main menu.
It's not a huge problem, but I think it's very annoying, and I really miss the standby mode from my previous iPod (also an iPod Classic, it was sent to repairs and I got a new one back - if this one is faulty as well, I'm gonna be really ****** off with the quality of these products)

The alarm-clock might be turned on, try to turn this off.

  • Lenovo T61 won't stay in Standby mode

Im running windows xp. my computer wont stay in stanby mode when i close the lid or click start, shut down, and then choose the standby option.  When i click shut down the computer wont stay shut down.  It just restarts.  Basically my computer wont stay in standby mode or shutdown.
what could be the problem? and solution...?

Check your system logs in your Console application for clues to what is triggering it to come back on. USB hubs or something connection to the computer via USB or Firewire often cause this issue. Try disconnecting any external devices.

  • IPod won't stay in disk mode

I have the dreaded sad face icon. I am attempting to restore it. I am able to put the iPod into disk mode. It will stay in disk mode and charge with the A/C charger. When I try to connect it to the pc it will flash "do not disconnect" for a few seconds then reboot and go back to the sad face. It will not stay in disk mode long enough for me to attempt a restore. Anyone had a similar problem?

Well, I got frustrated enough to try the "whack in on the desk" method of iPod restoration I have read about in a few places. Low and behold IT WORKED! Took two tries. I banged it on my desk fairly hard three times and now it has started fine and is charging as I type this. All songs are still there at first glance. It seems like a dumb thing and your mileage may vary, but it worked for me.

  • 6th Gen iPod won't stay in standby

I have a 6th gen iPod classic that I recently resurrected by installing a new battery. I also restored the firmware via iTunes after replacing the battery. I can pause playback and the backlight times out OK but it "wakes up" about 30 seconds to a minute later. This continues to repeat and drain the battery. I have tried forcing it into standby (holding play/pause) and engaging the hold switch to no avail. It seems that if I keep it docked to one of my speaker units it sits and charges and behaves. What could cause this?
    Thanks,
    Joe

    Hello jfusco,
It sounds like something may have been misseated when you replaced the battery putting extra pressure somewhere on the inside of the iPod causing it to come out of sleep.  Double check to make sure everything is as exactly as it should be.  Not really much else for suggestions at this point.

  • Apple TV won't stay in standby

Whenever I put Apple TV on standby then exit and go to watch TV or a DVD within minutes the Apple TV has powered up again. It won't stay in standby mode.
    Any suggestions?

Having the same issue. Holding play also no longer seems to work in putting ATV into standby mode, and now requires going to the menu selection. But as soon as another button is touched on my remote, ATV lights back up.

My ipod nano, when it enters standby mode, pause the reproduction of music, how do I solve this problem?

This is usually an indication that your headphones are not plugged ALL the way in.  The white part of the headset should be flush with the body of the Nano and no silver from the headphone plug should still be seen.

  • HT1904 Hey my iPod won't stay on a game im playing or apps I open and sarfi keeps going back to home page

Hey my iPod won't stay on a game im playing or apps I open and sarfi keeps

Try closing all apps via the taskbar and then see if they then stay open : from the home screen (i.e. not with any app 'open' on-screen) double-click the home button to bring up the taskbar, then press and hold any of the apps on the taskbar for a couple of seconds or so until they start shaking, then press the '-' in the top left of each app to close them, and touch any part of the screen above the taskbar so as to stop the shaking and close the taskbar.
For Safari you could also try clearing its cache, cookies and history via Settings > Safari
If that doesn't work then you could try a soft-reset : press and hold both the sleep and home buttons for about 10 to 15 seconds (ignore the red slider), after which the Apple logo should appear - you won't lose any content, it's the equivalent of a reboot.

  • Ipod won;t stay on!

I just got this second hand iPod. Its a 30G black Video. Then ight i got it, it froze on me. I looked online, and it said to reset it. Once i reset it, it would.t turn on for about 2 days. Now I can turn it on, but it won't stay on for even five minutes, even though it says it has almost full battery. an anyone help me?

there are only 2 other options
    1. put it in disk mode and restore ipod
    2. if step 1 fails, then get ipod serviced. if the ipod is within its one year warranty, parts and labor are covered. you only have to pay shipping to sent it in. you can also buy an extended 1 yr warranty ($59) that covers the ipod for an additional yr. and it covers shipping

  • My ipod won't go into disk mode

i've tried and tried and it won't go into disk mode. it shows an apple then a folder with the ! and when plugged into the computer sometimes it'll say don't disconnnect for about 10 seconds and then it'll go back to the apple.
also it sounds as though the drive is stuck in a loop; a weird repetitive whirring sound when i hold it up to my ear.

If you can't get it into disk mode and restore the iPod it most likely needs service, especially with that noise it's making.

Koopie, the bad news is: that's not at all an uncommon problem with the iPod Touch. I have the same problem at work. We have no problems at all connecting to our Wi-Fi with Dell, Sony, HP, Asus, Palm or any other devices except two: my Touch and my boss's iPhone. Apple has the most finicky Wi-Fi known to man.
But enough ranting. The first thing you'll want to do is to check to be sure that your router's firmware is up-to-date. That may just solve your problem; it does in some cases. I've also found that turning the Touch's Wi-Fi off and on sometimes helps. You may have to do it four or five times to get a reconnect. You might also check your router's instructions to see if there is a way to reset it by going in through your web browser, which may be more convenient than pulling the plug.

  • T61 WinXP won't stay in Standby or Hibernate

I have a T61 running WinXP that will not stay in Standby or Hibernate modes.  Any time I force the computer to go into Standby or Hibernate, it enters the sleep state then immediately resumes.
Here is a list of things I have attempted:
    - Updated drivers for video and network
    - Disabled Intel AMT
    - Disabled firewall and antivirus
    - Disabled network cards to wake on LAN (both in the BIOS and in Device Manager)
    - Nothing in the Event Log
    - No processes are running when performing standby or hibernate
    - Unpugged USB devices
    - Disabled wireless (WiFi and Bluetooth)
    - Created another local user account and confirmed the problem still exists
    - Ran CCleaner for my temp files and registry clean
    - No applications running when I attempt sleep mode
Other than reimaging the computer, is there anything else I can do?  The symptoms started after I installed the DirecTV2PC software, which I have uninstalled.

I have the same issue. I've tried a number of things which I listed down below and they are in the order that I did them for the most part. The issues that I have are the laptop will not shut down from start menu, it'll shut down for a second then boot back up.
Running XP SP3 possibly downgraded from Vista Basic, I say this because it is a Lenovo Thinkpad T61 laptop I got from work and has a Vista Basic sticker on the palm rest but running xp.  Can't standby or hibernate, can only shut down holding power button for 4 sec. When I close the lid it will go into standby, (the indicators will go to the half moon, then will jump back to battery. Same goes for trying hibernate and shutdown from the start menu.
From all the options that I've tried, if I enabled them or changed any settings and the change didn't fix the issue, I reset the settings to what they previously were. I talked a network manager who had the same problem where he claimed to have fixed it with some registry settings that he can't remember which ones there were.
    1) Checkdisk
    2) Defragmenting HDD
    3) Cleaned up Hard Drive of temp files
    4) Can't properly shutdown from safe mode.
    5) Uninstalled Alternative Input Type from Office 2003 (ctfmon.exe)
    6) registry edited “powerdown after shutdown” to enabled
    7) Unchecked “automatically restart” in system failure settings of startup and recovery in system properties.
    8) msconfig: unchecked LPMGR in startup, unchecked thinkvantage registry monitor service in services.
    9) Enabled AMT in bios. Changed thinkvantage power control to all modes, and enabled intel amt while cntrl+p options.
    10) Reset all options in #9 to default.
    11) Updated ACPI Power Management, Management Engine FW and Power Manager from Lenovo site.
    12) Updated Bios, uninstalled power manager, uninstalled power management driver both with revo, used ccleaner to clean registry
    13) Restarted and installed power management driver and installed power
Any other suggestions? I also tried shutting down without the battery and the laptop plugged into the wall but same deal. I'm trying to find a solution without 1) having to send the laptop into tech support for them to fix or 2) completely reinstalling the OS.
Thanks in adavnced for any help.

  • My iPod won't stay powered off

My 1st gen iPod refuses to stay powered off.  I can switch it off by pressing the power switch, then swiping the "slide to power off". The shutdown screen displays (spinning circle of lines) for a couple of seconds and then the screen switches off. It looks as though the iPod has actually powered down at this point, but less than a second later it boots up again.
I have disabled Wi-Fi, turned off notifications and there are no alarms set, so I can't see any reason why it should want to power up by itself.
I have only recently tried powering it off - for the last couple of years I have generally left it just in sleep mode, and that has been fine. However the battery seems to be on its way out, hence wanting to power it off completely to rateain as much charge as possible
But why does my iPod refuse to stay powered off? Any thoughts?

I did power off the iPod when it was in the "reset to factory" state, and it powered itself up again just as before.
A service sounds expensive, and add on the cost  of a new battery and it is probably more cost effective to purchase a new 4gen iPod or alternative product.  For now I think I'll just wait until the battery completely dies (and I'll know because it will stop trying to power itself up).
I have actually found a way of getting it to power off, and stay off:
    Connect it to my MacBook
    Power off
Disconnect the cable from the Mac
Remove the cable from the iPod
If I remove the cable from the iPod first then it immediately powers up again - perhaps because the connections don't disconnect as cleanly as they do with the USB end of the cable.

  • Iphone won't stay in Airplane mode after connecting to some accessories

I've observed that the iphone doesn't stay in airplane mode after I connect it to a Kenwood KCA-iP500 adapter for Kenwood head units. Here's the story.
After I connect the iphone to the iP500, the iphone pops up with a message that says the attached accessory is not compatible with the iphone. It further asks me if I want turn on airplane mode. I choose to activate airplane mode, and I assume it turns on airplane mode. After my drive I disconnect the iphone from the ip500, and I observe that the iphone comes out of airplane mode automatically.
The use of airplane mode is crucial for me because I work in a Mexican border town and I want to avoid data roaming charges. I manually put the phone in airplane mode, put it into standby mode and went about my business. Some time later I went back to the home screen and noticed that the phone was trying to register to a phone network. I kept trying to keep it in airplane mode but it kept coming out by itself.
I'm guessing that the feature that temporarily activates airplane mode and then automatically deactivates it when the accessory is disconnected keeps it out of airplane mode.
The good news is turning the phone off and then back on fixes the problem.
