Ipod Won't Sync, gives several error messages

I have been having trouble with my itunes lately. Whenever I try to plug my ipod into my computer when itunes is up, the error messages "The ipod "Alexander's Ipod" cannot be synced. The required disk cannot be found" and "Attempting to copy to the disk "Ipod" failed. The disk could not be read from or written to" come up. A few days ago I managed to get some of my songs on my ipod. I went to go back again to add more to my ipod later that day and the syncing started and was working again. It got up to all my songs on itunes (syncing like 3000 out of 3000 songs), and that message came up again. Restore hasnt worked either. I hope this makes sense. If anyone could help be out, It would be greatly appreciated.

*Check your iPod with Diagnostics Mode*
It's possible that your iPod's hard drive has started to fail. Take your iPod and place your right thumb on the centre SELECT button and your left on the top MENU button. Press down both thumbs for about 6 seconds until your iPod reboots. Immediately move your left thumb around to the rewind button |<< on the left and hold this down together with SELECT for a further 6 seconds. Your iPod should now switch into Diagnostic Boot mode. Press MENU for *Manual Test*, then select *IO > HardDrive > HDSMARTData* to reveal your stats. For comparison here are mine for my 2 year old 6th Generation Classic:
Retracts: 889
Reallocs: 12
Pending Sectors: 0
PowerOn Hours: 2202
Start/Stops: 894
Temp: Current 24c
Temp: Min 10c
Temp: Max 50c
Take a note of your results. When finished press *SELECT & MENU* for 6 seconds to reset the iPod again.
With modern disc drives sectors are no longer marked bad by a disc scan, if the SMART firmware detects a sector it has trouble accessing it will attempt to invisibly reallocate it to a spare area of the disc.
Note that I've only 12 remapped sectors and none pending. To help explain what the numbers mean here is an extract from the Wikipedia S.M.A.R.T. article:
*Reallocated Sectors Count*
Count of reallocated sectors. When the hard drive finds a read/write/verification error, it marks this sector as "reallocated" and transfers data to a special reserved area (spare area). This process is also known as remapping, and "reallocated" sectors are called remaps. This is why, on modern hard disks, "bad blocks" cannot be found while testing the surface – all bad blocks are hidden in reallocated sectors. However, as the number of reallocated sectors increases, the read/write speed tends to decrease. The raw value normally represents a count of the number of bad sectors that have been found and remapped. Thus, the higher the attribute value, the more sectors the drive has had to reallocate.
*Pending sector count*
Number of "unstable" sectors (waiting to be remapped, because of read errors). If an unstable sector is subsequently written or read successfully, this value is decreased and the sector is not remapped. Read errors on a sector will not remap the sector (since it might be readable later); instead, the drive firmware remembers that the sector needs to be remapped, and remaps it the next time it's written.
Large numbers of Reallocs or Pending Sectors would suggest your drive is failing and that you may need to repair or replace your iPod. Check your stats after another attempt to update your iPod. If the numbers increase that again points to hard drive failure. While it won't be good news at least you'll know it isn't some random software problem and you can decide what to do next.

i plug my ipod in to the usb port, it lights up but the screen doesnt change to the normal connecting or syncing screen and it doesn't show up on itunes. there is no dinging sound for connection. no error messages. all my usb ports work, tried them out with other equipment but ipod wont' sync. please help.

I have the same problem.  I have 64-bit Windows 7, all updates installed, anti-virus uninstalled, and have a specific firewall exception made just for iTunes, however the iTunes Store still refuses to load.  After waiting a (very long) period of time I get the following screen:
Sometimes I won't get this screen at all, and iTunes will finish loading with a blank screen.  All of my other computers can load iTunes perfectly fine.  This error occurred directly following the iOS 5 update for my iPhone.  Seeing as that the only computer affected was the one updating my iPhone, I figure there's some connection between the two.  I have
    cleared catche, cookies, everything
uninstalled and reinstalled all Apple software and components (and end processes)
    completely deleted my iTunes library
tried creating a new account, but can't even do that becuase I can't connect to the store
tired de-authorizing and re-authroized the account
    signing-out and signing back in
    disabled parental controls
made sure I WASN'T behind a proxy server
    I
Apple Support tried to help with my request but for some reason refused to listen to the notion that this problem occured because of an iOS5 update (and iTunes 10.5).  The only thing I haven't done is wipe my harddrive, which seems to be the only option now.
    Somebody please help.

  • IPod won't sync, spurious permission error

I have just purchased the new iPod with video. It will not sync with my library, after adding ten or twenty songs, I get an error that says "Attempting to copy to the disk 'iPod' failed. You do not have enough access privileges for this operation". It goes on to claim that I don't have write access to my Music Folder, which seems in direct contradiction with the first (in bold) message.
I've double checked the permissions on my music folder, and I do have read/write access to all the files and folders inside. I have run the Disk Utility and have done the "Repair Permissions" out of superstition.
Does anyone know if it's possible to get a more helpful error message out of iTunes? I suspect that this problem doesn't really have anything to do with permissions. I had a couple of songs where the file had been deleted and received the same error (but after I hit OK it gave me the name of the missing track).

I couldn't find any good information on rebuilding the iTunes library, so I decided to tackle it by hand. This did, in fact, fix my problem.
    Back Up Your Playlist Data
Open iTunes and choose the "Export Library" option from under the iTunes menu. Save this file to the desktop. This file represents all of your playlist data.
    Delete Your Library
Quit iTunes and open up your Music folder. Nvigate to your "iTunes Music" folder. Inside of that is a folder called "iTunes". Located inside of that is your iTunes library, it is comprised of two files:
    iTunes Library
    iTunes Library.xml
Move these files your desktop, they will no longer be read by iTunes.
Add Track Back to Your Library
Relaunch iTunes, all of your tracks and playlists will be missing. Drag your Music folder onto iTunes, iTunes will re-add all of your tracks.
    Import Your Playlist Data
Now that your tracks have returned, import your playlist data back. Choose the "Import" option from under the iTunes menu and choose the file your exported back in the first step. iTunes will load in your playlist data and re-link your tracks to your playlist.
After this final step, I can now synchronize my library to my iPod without issue.

  • IPod won't restore...error message saying "Can't mount iPod"...

I have determined that I need to restore my iPod based on my problem (I manually update playlists and cannot add a playlist because I get an error message saying "The disk cannot be read from or written to.") So I open iPod updater 11-17-2005 to try to restore my iPod and I get an error message saying "Can't mount iPod". I can't restore or update my iPod because of this error message. Can anyone help me? I've been all through the discussions, online help, etc., and can't find this particular error message. Thanks!!

I came to charge my iPod because the battery went low, after few minutes it came on with this do not disconnect, i tried to restore it also says can't mount, it has been exactly two days. I disconnected the iPod and the backlight and the message did not go off until the battery ran out. I also need some help my address is [email protected] Seriously I just got my iPod click wheel 30Gb color display, video, photo.

  • IPod won't sync, gives 'Delayed Write Failed' error.

I've had my iPod classic 80gb, for roughly a year now, and I never really had any permanent issues with it, until last week. I plugged it into my laptop and left it on over night. I wake up in the morning and all my songs and videos were gone. iTunes was reading the data as 'Other'. Overnight, without me doing a single thing, everything was gone. I unplugged it and plugged it back in, and all the files were gone. Completely. Space had been returned.
I painstakingly put my songs back in that afternoon. The next day, I plugged the ipod into my office computer, and tried to sync my podcasts. After syncing about 20 files, iTunes froze. Then a yellow bubble popped up saying 'Delayed Write Failed' after which it wipes out everything I was able to sync.
I've done everything, from restoring the ipod, to re-installing iTunes to formatting the disk to straight up performing a chkdsk. As i speak right now, my laptop won't boot up after i performed the last chkdsk, which told me i had a bunch of invalid sectors or some other. For one week, I've searched the net and it seems no-one has a solution to this.
Any help? I don't have an Apple store in my country, and I don't want to believe that i have to get a replacement.

    1st - Sorry I can't help you.
I also have iPod Classic 80gb and have had no trouble till two days ago (11/08). I connected my iPod and it showed up as a source in iTunes but none of my music was shown. I reconnected it and same thing, I checked for update for iPod but it said it was up to date. I then used iTunes to restore my iPod to factory settings. It went through the process and restarted but after that would never show up as a source in the iTunes window.
When I connect the iPod to my PC it detects the USB Device as an iPod right way (so it doesn't seem to be a USB Driver issue) but then the "Auto-Play" window shows up and it makes my PC slow way down and then eventually I see the "Windows Delayed Write Failed" error mesage in the task bar. If I check My Computer it shows the iPod as a drive.
I've done everything listed in Apples Support Page for this, from restoring the iPod, to re-installing iTunes, clearing temp folder and old registry files, updating iPod Service in MsConfig. I have also tried to sync the iPod with my other PC and see the same error so it seems the iPod is corrupted. I don't know anyway to restore factory settings again since it won't show up in iTunes anymore. I've searched the net and it seems no-one has a solution to this.

  • Ipod won't sync."unknown error (-69)"

I've had months of no problems with Ipod classic 80g. I purchased some more music, one song of about 20 synced onto my ipod. Then I got a message from itunes saying: "Attempting to copy to the disk "MOM'S IPOD" failed. An unknown error occurred (-69)" I've spent hours trying different options, my recent purchases are on my library, but only the first song is on my ipod!! This happened right after the last update of i-tunes. Is there a bug with that or what?

Thank You!!! I don't know WHY file (Eric Clapton-Pilgrim CD)was bad when I've had it in there for a few months. But that's what it kept stopping on when tring to sync. So I deleated it and sync finally ran thru w/o a ERROR code. I think I will try to reinstall it later and see what happens. Thanks again for responding. it is easy to get lost in all of this info, I had't found that page.

  • My ipod won't sync. keeps coming up with error message saying ' itunes could not back up ipod because a session could not be started with the ipod' help?

My ipod won't sync to my itunes. Keeps coming up with the error message 'itunes can not back up the ipod because a session could not be started with the ipod? it has been coming up with this message for the lst 2 weeks now. Will let me charge it but won't let me sync anything. Really not sure what to do or where to start or anything!

Follow these instructions to completely remove Apple software
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1923
Then use free Ccleaner to repeatly repair your registry until it's fixed.
    http://www.piriform.com/ccleaner/download/standard
    download iTunes again from Apple.
    http://www.apple.com/itunes/
If you have 64bit Vista or Windows 7, look for the seperate download of iTunes for that further down the page.
Once installed, use the Apple Software Update under your Start Menu to fully update all Apple components.
Your content will remain on the drive in the Music > iTunes Folder, nothing is deleted.
You  should be making backups of your content regularly, either through  iTunes or via copying the iTunesFolder in your Music folder to a  external drive.
Windows  is notorious for having "other" issues that make it unstable, we as  volunteers helping others can't always resolve those issues.

  • IPad 2 gives an error message when sync'ing to iTunes on iMac

The iMac where iTunes sits gives an error message that the iPad is sync'd to another iTunes library "do you want to erase and sync?" we can get rid of the error message saying "cancel" but it still won't sync and the screen is on all night with this error while charging. Anyone have any ideas? Never sync'd "around..." to another library!!

Is there any chance you accidentally "deauthorized" your iTunes account?  Make sure your account is authorized with your Apple ID.  Unless you have a faster USB on your Mac, you're better off charging your iPad with the supplied 10 W wall charger.  If you sync under your current circumstance you will lose you apps and synced content, which means you'll have to redownload your apps, etc.
