Ipod won't turn on and isn't recognized

I've tried everything with my ipod, but it just isn't working. I would love to be able to fix it myself but I can't figure it out at all.
My ipod is a 30g 5th generation one. That "sad face" icon comes up every time I try to turn it on for a few moments, then it just shuts off. If I try to charge it, it does that same thing over and over again. Also, when I plug it into my computer, it doesn't show up on itunes or any files.
Yes, I have put it into disk mode then plugged it in. When it's NOT hooked up to the computer, and it's just being charged by something else, it charges in disk mode. But if I put it in disk mode then plug it into the computer, it stays in disk mode for about 15 seconds then shuts off. The computer won't even recognize it in disk mode either.
So here are my main problems: It won't turn on, the computer doesn't recognize it, and putting it in disk mode won't do much.
I HAVE tried different cables and ports, it still does the same thing. I have also tried a completely different computer. It still doesn't work.
What I really want to know is how to restore it with all these issues, if that's possible. An even better one would be how to get my computer to recognize it.

it sounds like your ipod need hardware.
I would book an appointment for a genius bar. http://www.apple.com/retail/geniusbar/

  • My ipod won't turn on and isn't recognized by iTunes or computer

My iPod Touch (2nd Generation) won't turn on at all. I tried charging it with different cables and in different outlets and it wouldn't charge. My computer (a mac) and iTunes won't recognize it and the sleep button is jammed so I can't restart it. What should I do?

Need more info to help, assuming that the iPod screen is totally blank now, when you switch it on.
When you plug it in to charge, what do you see on the iPod screen, after 30 minutes, while still connected?
Have you tried using another USB cable or port?

  • IPod classic won't turn on and isn't recognized

Today, I started having problems with my 80gb classic and have no idea what to do with it.
I took it out of it's dock charger and plugged it into my laptop and was accessing a file off it. About a minute after I connected it, my computer said it had disconnected and I looked down to see the sad ipod face. I tried resetting it, switching it into disk mode, plugging it back into my computer and nothing would work. It's not being recognized in Finder or in iTunes and the screen won't turn on for anything. I'm out of ideas of what to do with it since this is the first major problem I've had with it.
Any suggestions on what to do would be really helpful since I have no idea what to do next with it.

I have the same problem with a 20G classic. I assume it may be a dead battery but when i use the docing station i get the apple logo and a clicking sound(HD trying to boot up) then a "folder logo with !"
Will the battery replacement allow me to charge and reset the operating sytem syncing with iTunes?

  • SanDisk Sansa Clip Zip Won't Turn On and Isn't Recognized by Computer

Hi, Newbie here with my first question. I've had my Clip Zip for four years and it recently ran out of juice while listening to a song. I plugged it into my car charger for a recharge, but the device would did not turn on as usual, nor was it detected by my PC when I got to work. Here is what I have tried so far: 1) Plugging it into other PCs (five of 'em).2) Holding the power button down for 20 seconds to reset it. (while disconnected from PC).3) Holding the power button down for over one minute to reset it.4) Holding down the power button and the center button at the same time for 20 seconds. When that didn't work, I tried again, this time for over a minute. Then I tried holding down the power button, then the center button a second afterwards, again as above.5) Holding down the power button and the return button at the same time, as 4.6) Trying to put it into MSC mode.7) Checking the device drivers via Device Manager, but it still wasn't detected by my PC. (I followed the intructions in this article for 6. and 7.: http://hubpages.com/hub/Troubleshooting-SanDisk-Sansa-Clip-Zip-MP3-Player-Problems) Thinking it was perhaps a faulty USB cable, I bought a new one. Still won't turn on. Tried everything as above - again. Still won't turn on. Tried this suggestion from another forumite: Koto SanDisk UserPosts: 63Registered: ‎03-21-2012  0  Re: froze and now it won't turn on[ Edited ] Options ‎05-01-2012 03:33 PM - edited ‎05-01-2012 03:36 PM Hold the Power Button over 20 Seconds. Leave the Power Button and press Again!. This Reset the Player. The leave and Again is important. Have the Player Akku Power?Plug the Player 30 Minutes on the PC to load and repeat Reset Method. But it still won't turn or be recognized!  Does anyone have any suggestions, or is it kaputski? Four years seems a depressingly short shelf life for an MP3 player. Thanks, Mino

As I'm not keen on spending more money on a device that may no longer work again, can I assume that I could try the same thing but just keep it plugged into my PC?
Sure, this is just a measure that some people sometimes have found success with.  With your PC, just make sure that the PC is on or that the USB port is still providing power/charging when the PC is off.

  • IPod won't turn on and isn't being recognized by my PC

Hi all, hopefully someone can point me in the right direction. My iPod has worked fine. I purchased one of those iHome alarm clock players for it about 4 weeks ago. I haven't used the iPod on it's own in a while.
This morning, the alarm went off just fine. I went to plug the iPod into my PC and nothing. I couldn't get it to reset or turn on either. The computer says it doesn't recognize the player???
I think it maybe the battery, but I thought the iHome would charge it. Anyone?????

I was hoping someone would answer your question. I have 2 ipod nanos. I recently purchased an alarm clock/charger for my ipod. I love it, however now my computer will not recognize my ipod. It does recognize my daughter's ipod which is exactly the same as mine. I am using Vista. WHy WHy Why???

  • IPod won't do ANYTHING, and isn't recognized by ibook

I have a brand new iPod mini. I installed the software, plugged it into my iBook G4, and the icon popped up in iTunes and everything seemed to be working...except that it said "Do Not Disconnect" on the screen and wouldn't go away...it was like that for over 6 hours. Eventually my computer went to sleep, and the cable was disconnected without being ejected properly. I tried plugging it back in and my laptop crashed. Now when i try and plug my iPod in, it makes a funny, quiet, high pitched beeping sort of noise...and the iPod isn't showing any pictures, or responding to any reset or restart methods. No pictures on the screen or anything! I've scoured the apple support website and can't find anything...and it's horribly frustrating! If anyone has any idea what to do please help me! (All my software is up to date as well)

Ok Rose, try the following instead
    1. Put your iPod in Disk Mode, press "Select"+"play" keys.
    2. connect your iPod with your Mac
    3. Open disk utility
    4. Click erase
    5. Restore the ipod updater

my itunes need a update and i pluged in my ipod awhile doing the updat now my ipod won't turn on and the screen has a itunes ion on it what should i do? i really need the help

    Try:
    - iOS: Not responding or does not turn on
    - Also try DFU mode after try recovery mode

    - If not successful and you can't fully turn the iOS device fully off, let the battery fully drain. After charging for an least an hour try the above again.
    - Try another cable
    - Try on another computer
    - If still not successful that usually indicates a hardware problem and an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store is in order.

  • My iPod won't turn on and i've done everything

I was driving and my iPod fell of the dash board and onto the floor, and now it won't turn on. I got an iHome for Christmas and have been using it so I know my iPod is fully charged. I tried connecting it with the USB so I can use it on iTunes and charge it just in case and my computer says it doesn't recognize it. It doesn't appear under devices so I'm unable to restore it.
I've only had it for alittle over a year, what the heck is wrong?

    Try these.
    My iPod won't turn on.
iTunes 7 doesn't recognize the iPod.
    Your Windows PC doesn't recognize iPod</font color</a>.
iPod appears in Windows Explorer but does not appear in iTunes.

  • IPod  won't turn on and makes funny noises...

My iPod won't turn on. When I try turning it on it starts making a funny noise, almost like when a cd player tries to read the cd and can't but keeps trying to. Then the apple picture shows up and after a few seconds it goes blank. It is out of warranty and this is a replacement for another one I had that the hard drive crashed on. Sometimes it goes to the "Do not disconnect" screen or the folder and exclamation point screen. How can I get this fixed or is it not worth it? Will Apple replace this one too?

It is pretty easy.I called the customers service for the questions. An officer asked me:"Have you ever put some songs into your Ipod?" "Have you ever safely remove youe Ipod form your computer?" I suddenly realized I sometimes did not remove it safely.
I think you may meet the same problem. What you can do now is to push both the "Wheel" and "Menu",and keep pushing for 6-8 seconds. It will restart, and you will see an apple in the middle of the screen.

  • Ipod does not turn on and is not recognized in Itunes and computer

For some reason, one day, my ipod nano 4th generation just stopped working. On the device manager, I can see that the apple mobile USB driver is installed but it is not listed as an external hard drive on my computer. When I plug my ipod in, I have to push the top and the middle button together until it makes the sound when the computer recognizes a new USB. Then, it keeps saying 'waiting for ipod' and I eventually get a 1601 error message. I've tried everything, and it doesn't work at all. do you guys know how to fix this? This is just making me angry and furious.

I have the same problem as from this morning my ipod nano just won't turn on and when I plug into computer its recognising an external hard drive but NOT syncing with itunes....Its just gone completely dead!!! Can anyone help?
