IPod won't turn on, cannot be reset

I got my iPod Touch 2g for Christmas and have been using it without problem (no dropping it, smashing it, etc.) I had it synced to my laptop for a week but then wanted to sync it to my desktop today. I plugged it in and my desktop recognized it, iTunes found it, and I was able to transfer songs onto it.
Then I unplugged it to check on how everything was stored and it wouldn't turn on. Neither my laptop nor my desktop can recognize it now; when I turn on iTunes, they can't find anything. I ran a Diagnostics test with my iTunes and it said it had no problems doing anything but finding an iPod. I pressed the "ON/OFF" and "home" buttons at the same time but it won't reset. So I cannot reset or restore it with iTunes or by pushing buttons. The battery was almost fully charged - when I plug it in to recharge with my AC charger, it doesn't light up to indicate it's charging.
The back panel is hot to the touch and has been even though I unplugged it from the computers 20 minutes ago.
Please help, I can't find other topics that sound like my case.

Try to force it into recovery mode: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1808
However, if it is overheating, you may have other problems and should probably have it looked at.

  • Ipod won't turn on unless is reseted. and that takes 10-15 minutes

After a couple of months working properly, the problems started. I turn it off by pressing play/pause until screen goes off. After it's off for less than an hour, it won't turn on by pressing play or any other button. It will only come alive by reseting which takes 10 to 15 minutes before the apple comes out. Yes, I do the select menu thing properly, before I had this problem it took only 10 seconds to reset it when I had to. Any idea? Thanks

If it's taking that long to reset then it doesn't sound well. I'd recommend you check the iPod's hard drive for errors by sticking it in disk mode. Reset using *Menu & Select > 6 secs* then hold *Select & Play* as soon as the Apple logo appears. Once in disk mode connect to your PC, find the drive in Windows Explorer, right-click and open Properties, go to tools and check the drive for errors. Once you've confirmed the drive is OK or fixed any errors a restore in iTunes should correct any problems with the firmware & library on the iPod that may be causing it to behave badly. Don't forget that a reset will wipe out everything on the iPod so check you have your originals before proceeding.

  • IPod won't turn on after Soft Reset?

My 8GB iPod Touch has been lagging and glitching a lot lately. So I did a Soft Reset, and now the black screen with the little silver Apple logo is on there, and stayed there for 30 minutes. If I press any button, it'll go all white and restart the reset.
Now I've waited for about an hour, and it won't turn on. Plus it won't connect to my iTunes if I plug it into my laptop.

    Try:
    - iOS: Not responding or does not turn on
    - Also try DFU mode after try recovery mode
How to put iPod touch / iPhone into DFU mode « Karthik's scribblings
    - If not successful and you can't fully turn the iOS device fully off, let the battery fully drain. After charging for an least an hour try the above again.
    - Try on another computer
    - If still not successful that usually indicates a hardware problem and an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store is in order.

  • IPod won't turn on unless I reset it

    Hiya,
I have had a problem with my ipod since yesterday. It worked just fine before but when I wanted to listen to some music yesterday it wouldn't come on. I thought the battery might be flat but even when I connected it to the PC via USB it didn't come on. I then reset it via Select and Menu and it came on again, but then when I switched in back off and on, same problem it wouldn't come on unless I reset it via Select and Menu.
I have reinstalled iTunes, I have completely restored the iPod, problem still persists. It worked just as it should before I could wake it up by pressing any button and put it into sleep by pressing the Play button, but now it just won't come on if I press any button, I have to reset it every time using the Select & Menu button even if I just but it to sleep for only a few seconds. It seems just to directly go into deep sleep now. Sleep timer is set to off, already checked that.
Anyone else having this problems and is it fixable???
    Thanks for your help!

Well, I restored it again, synced it with itunes and then let it switch off itself after disconnecting from my pc and now it's working again fine . Resolved!

If nothing works, then you may have no choice but to go to an Apple Store. If it comes down to that, make an appointment with the Genius Bar.

  • My iPod won't turn on and it makes an eerie beeping noise

I took it to a Genius Bar yesterday and the iPod was working and today it went to its original state as the day i took it there and they said that it needed to be restored which it did and it was also to be charged for 5 hours, which it did, and they deleted everything in it. A lady blanked it out so it would work and now it doesnt.

  • 1st Generation iPod Won't Turn On

I have a original 1st generation iPod.  Yes, the one with the scroll wheel and 5gb (wow!) drive.  It doesn't turn on though.  Originally, I suspected a loose connection from the battery to the logic board, but testing with my multimeter shows me the connection is fine.  The iPod doesn't turn on at all.  I tried plugging it into my computer's firewire port and pressing the menu and play/pause button to no avail.
I have a picture in this post of the iPod - all dead like a brick.  Do any of you have any suggestions?  I am at a brick wall right now and need to find some solution.  Or if any of you know where I can get the iPod repaired or get a cheap logic board replacement?  I can't spend too much though.
    Thanks.
