IPod won't turn on, even when plugged in

Hey all -- I can't get my ipod mini to turn on, and when I plug it into my ibook, nothing happens -- the computer doesn't seem to know it's there. Any thoughts?

Alex,
Have you tried doing a Reset on it yet? And if so did
you give it a few tried before giving up?
Patrick
I have an unusual problem..... I let me friend borrow my Mini and a few weeks later she tells me that it's not working dead!!! The iPod is about two years old...Think???....I asked her give it back....I plugged it into my iBook and Now all you see is the Apple Logo then the battery dead!!! I leave the iPod pluged in and sometimes it turns on and iTunes recognizes the Mini but it shows a sign that says something like your iPod is currupted and may need to be unplugged...Plug it back in and restore...But Thing is that I'm not able to restore it but I can't WHY?!?!?!?!

    - If not successful and you can't fully turn the iOS device fully off, let the battery fully drain. After charging for an least an hour try the above again.
    - Try another cable

  • Macbook Pro 13" won't turn on even when plugged in and battery in "good health".

It started the day before yesterday: My husband called to tell me that the Macbook wasn't turning on.  So I told him to hook it up to the charger and plug it in; according to him, the charger light was on but the laptop still wouldn't power on.  Then I told him to hold down the power butten for a couple of seconds (about 5 or more) then release it; again, it still wouldn't power on.
When I arrived home, I took it to a friend and had him take a look at it.  (There are no Apple stores on Guam and I bought my laptop from a military base in the States, so I couldn't just "take it to the store".)  He opened it up, disconnected and reconnected the battery, resecured the back panel, and plugged it back in.  The Macbook powered on.  At that time, he suggested downloading the Battery Health App and following the instructions to calibrate my battery gauge - which I did.  By the time I finished calibrating the battery, the stats indidcated that my Battery Healthy was still pretty good (92.something %).  Afterward I did poked around a few forums (including Apple) and found a few threads suggesting to reset the SMC; so I did (using the instructions for the Macbooks with the built-in batteries: Shut down laptop, plug in the charger and hook it up to a powersource, press option+control+shift+power button at the same time then release, and the press the power button).  After all that trouble, the laptop still remains down.
After being misled by the Battery Health App, I'm wondering if it's just a case of "dead battery".

The MBP should work with the power adapter connected.
Put your serial number of your MBP in the entry field in this web site:
    http://www.chipmunk.nl/klantenservice/applemodel.html
This will provide you with the exact model MBP information.  The OS that you show (which may be incorrect) indicates that it is Tiger.  If that is the case, the SMC that you performed was using the wrong directions.  This way we may be able to clarify this situation.
    Ciao.

  • IPOD WON'T TURN ON EVEN AFTER TRYING TO RESET IT

PLS. HELP! MY IPOD WITH VIDEO WON'T TURN ON EVEN AFTER TRYING TO RESET IT. THE BATTERY IS FULL. IT WILL JUST TURN ON AFTER 24HRS. WHEN THE BATTERY IS DRAINED EVEN WITHOUT USING IT BECAUSE IT IS IN FROZEN STATE. FOR INSTANCE AFTER DISCONNECTING FROM THE COMPUTER SAFELY AFTER CHARGING IT I KEPT IT OPEN BUT WHEN IT TURNED OFF AUTOMATICALLY IT WILL NOT TURN ON.

Ok well, if you do not have the Ipod starter disk, you can’t do very much to save it anymore. It is completely gone.
At this point I would recommend you calling Apple and setting up a repair. I would suggest you buy their warrantee plan, ($50 and good from 2 years) and it starts as soon as you buy the plan, NOT when you got your Ipod. The reason I would suggest that is, because if they deny your problem (like they did to me 5 time before finally replacing mine) it will save you a LOT of money. There may also be further issues as well with your Ipod.

They might even have a few ideas on how to fix it as well!
As for “Viruses” I would highly doubt it. Viruses are programs designed to destroy certain parts of computer. Such as, a virus that destroys windows computer, does not do anything to Mac computer. It does not have the same components. The same thing goes for Ipod, PSP, etc. Files my contain viruses in them, but it would not effect the product in most cases. Only if you transfer the file on it to another computer, could it do anything.
Your problem is, most likely your ipod just broke. Or should I say, just stopped working. Ipod’s are notorious at doing such things. Apple will take care of it. BUT GET THE EXTENDED WARRANTY! That is the only way to make sure they fix it. It is cheaper than buying a $350-$400 new 60 gig Video.
Good luck my friend, God Life

  • IPod Won't Power Up, Even When Connected to Mac

I'm trying to figure out if there's any chance this could just be the battery, or a more catastrophic failure (harddrive, etc.). The iPod will not power up, even when connected to the Mac, and will not mount as a removable drive either.
I've been having trouble with the battery for some time now (it will only hold a charge for about an hour, two tops) but I would think that even if the battery failed outright it would still work when plugged in (either to the wall, or to the Mac).
Does anyone know for certain if that is the case? I'd hate to waste any money sending this off to ipodresq.com for a battery if it's something more serious. (And this one is so old, if it is a harddrive failure or anything like that I'd be better served to buy a new one.
    G4 933 (Quicksilver)   Mac OS X (10.4.4)

Thanks for those links; I performed a hard reset and that seems to have brought the iPod back to life, at least for now. I suspect that the battery is no longer holding any significant charge and needs to be replaced, which might be why it locked up in the first place.
So now I get to decide if this 1st gen iPod is worth the money to replace the battery, or if I should just finally buy a new one. (I definitely do not want one of those rumored touchscreen models, though, if they turn out to be reality... impossible to navigate by touch alone while driving, and I have no use for video on an iPod - I want to watch video BIGGER, not smaller!)
    Thanks again!

    - See:

    - Try another cable. Some 5G iPods were shipped with Lightning cable that were either initially defective or failed after short use.
    - Try another charging source
    - Inspect the dock connector on the iPod for bent or missing contacts, foreign material, corroded contacts, broken, missing or cracked plastic.

  • HT1349 i pad won't turn on even after plugging into computer?

I pad will not turn on even after plugging into computer and into wall. Any suggestions?

Have you tried a soft-reset to see if that gets it to boot up ? Press and hold both the sleep and home buttons for about 10 to 15 seconds, after which the Apple logo will hopefully appear - you won't lose any content, it's the iPad equivalent of a reboot.

  • My ipod won't turn on even after i held down the buttons

my ipod won't turn on, i tried holding down the 2 buttons at the same time but the illuminated apple sign keeps appearing, when that stops it goes to a white screen and when that finishes it goes back to the apple sign

How long have you left it to charge?  At least half an hour or more?  Did you try a hard reset after leaving it to start for a few hours? To reset the device, press and hold both the Select (Center) and Menu buttons together long enough for the Apple logo to appear.

  • My iphone 5 won't turn on but when plugged into power source it keeps showing apple logo?

My iPhone 5 won't turn on at all and then when I plug it into a power source either into a plug socket or into my laptop with the USB cable it keeps showing start up screen with apple logo over and over again on a loop.
I have tried holding the top and front button together, this didn't work. I have also tried connecting to my laptop and following the reboot steps that I found on another discussion forum. Neither worked for me. The phone just won't reboot and it keeps continuing to loop the apple logo screen over and over without me touching anything.
The iPhone won't even connect to itunes and so itunes seems to not recognise my phone because its not even turning on (just continually apple logo screen appears for 5 seconds, goes to black screen and then repeats).
I don't know what is happening to it! Can anyone help? Is it a fault with the hardware or have I dont something to it? The next appointment at the genius bar for me is monday so I'm going to keep looking for any more recent ones until then but I really need to get it sorted before then so if anyone can help that would be great!
    Thanks

Try a reset when your iPhone is plugged into the charger as you say it does not respond when not plugged in...
Press and hold the Home and On/Off buttons simultaneously until you see the Apple logo, then release.  This may take up to 10 seconds.  This is the equivalent of a re-boot and you will not lose any data.
See if it will charge after this.

  • Iphone 4 won't turn on, even when I try to hard reset.

I have two 8gb Iphone 4s. They are probably close to 2 years old, if that.
Yesterday my wife's 4 shuts down out of nowhere and does not come back on. I have tried everything I know of to get it back on. Turning it back on the normal way with the hold button process, and doing a hard reset. It doesn't respond at all. The phone had more than 50% battery before it shut down, and I have been charging it all day afterwards. No response. I even tried plugging it into my pc itunes.
My iphone 4 is doing the same thing for the past month. It shuts down when i have it in pocket and not paying attention to it. The regular method of turning it on and off again does not work. I actually have to hard reset to get it back on. It's done this twice to me so far.
*** is going on with these devices? Are they built in a way to degrade and stop functioning after so long? Both of our phones are in super excellent condition. Clean with no marks on them. They are even still using IOS7 (iphone 4 won't handle 8)
