Ipod won't turn on/reset

I went to turn my ipod on earlier today and it turned on briefly and then the screen slowly faded to nothingness. Later, I tried to reset it and I got the apple logo (with no backup light) for a few seconds but then that died. I tried to reset it again and got nothing. My computer (Windows XP) does not recognize the ipod either. I have also tried the 5 R's and they did not help. Also after looking at the apple support page, it mentioned something about charging the ipod. So I also tried this (although it did not respond when plugged in) and left it there for about a half an hour. Then I realized that my ipod was really hot, so I unplugged it. Now I am getting no response from it once more. Anyone have any suggestions?

I'm having a similar problem, only mine won't turn OFF. I have 2 computers...Macbook Pro and a Powerbook...normally both would recognize it when I plug it in the USB but neither will now. It's been frozen for several hours now. I tried plugging it into the wall charger, nothing. The light stays on and it won't do anything.

  • IPod won't turn on, reset, or anything!! Please help!

I've had my ipod nano 2nd gen for a little over 3 years now, & it has never given me any problems at all. The other day, however, I had my ipod plugged in to my computer for a few hours, & it seemed to be working fine. My ipod takes about 1hr to charge, & I've only let it completely die a couple of times. The next day, I got on the computer & routinely I plugged it in, but the "Do not disconnect" screen didn't pop up, so I tried resetting it. The apple sign showed up, but the light didn't turn on, so I reset it again, & my computer finally recognized it. I left it to charge for a good 3 hours. Next day, same thing happens, but I finally get it on the home screen & it says the battery is dead, which makes no sense.
Now it won't turn on at all, it won't reset, it won't show me ANYTHING, not even that the battery is dead. My computer won't recognize it, either. I've tried resetting it countless times. I don't know what to do, can anybody help out? Am I just doomed?

    Hello choiecakes,
    And welcome to Apple Discussions!
Sounds like your iPod's battery may be toast especially considering it's probably more than a couple of years old given that it is a 2G Nano, which have been out on the market for quite some time now. You can opt to have Apple replace the battery for a hefty price, a third party repair company, or do it yourself using instructions on the web.
    Hope this helps.

    Try:

    - If not successful and you can't fully turn the iOS device fully off, let the battery fully drain. After charging for an least an hour try the above again.
    - If still not successful that usually indicates a hardware problem and an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store is in order.

If nothing works, then you may have no choice but to go to an Apple Store. If it comes down to that, make an appointment with the Genius Bar.

  • My iPod won't turn on and it makes an eerie beeping noise

I took it to a Genius Bar yesterday and the iPod was working and today it went to its original state as the day i took it there and they said that it needed to be restored which it did and it was also to be charged for 5 hours, which it did, and they deleted everything in it. A lady blanked it out so it would work and now it doesnt.

  • 1st Generation iPod Won't Turn On

I have a original 1st generation iPod.  Yes, the one with the scroll wheel and 5gb (wow!) drive.  It doesn't turn on though.  Originally, I suspected a loose connection from the battery to the logic board, but testing with my multimeter shows me the connection is fine.  The iPod doesn't turn on at all.  I tried plugging it into my computer's firewire port and pressing the menu and play/pause button to no avail.
I have a picture in this post of the iPod - all dead like a brick.  Do any of you have any suggestions?  I am at a brick wall right now and need to find some solution.  Or if any of you know where I can get the iPod repaired or get a cheap logic board replacement?  I can't spend too much though.
    Thanks.
