IPod wont backup, corrupt or not compatiable

sorry everyone, I thought I had this wrapped up.  I found the folder they were hidden however, my ipod is still not recognizing where the backup folder is and I keep getting the same message:
iPod wont backup, corrupt or not compatiable
How do I get my ipod and backup folder to link up?
Thank you

What happens if you remov the backup files and then try to sync/backup?
The message is saying that the backup is mpt compatible with the iPod and one reason is that the backup is corrupted.
Just what are you try to do?

I have an issue, running Windows XP and I don't have the location where the backup's are stored on my pc: Documents and Settings\(username)\Application Data\Apple Computer\MobileSync\Backup\.  What I do have is the following: Documents and Settings\(username)\ there's a AppData folder followed by:\LocalLow\DataMngr\ .
I have the latest update, 5.0.1 and I have the iPod Touch 3rd gen.
I have tried removing itunes and all that is associated with it then reinstalling and I keep getting the same message.  I've reset my ipod thinking that would help but still, no backup.
In iTunes, Edit, Preference, Device there are no backups.
What am I doing wrong, can anyone help?
    Thank you!

    Try here:

    Backup are here:
Tunes places the backup files in the following places:
    Mac: ~/Library/Application Support/MobileSync/Backup/
    Windows XP: \Documents and Settings\(username)\Application Data\Apple Computer\MobileSync\Backup\
    Windows Vista and Windows 7: \Users\(username)\AppData\Roaming\Apple Computer\MobileSync\Backup\
Note: If you do not see the AppData or Application Data folders, you may need to show hidden files (Windows XP, Windows Vista, Windows 7), or iTunes may not be installed in the default location. Show hidden files and then search the hard drive for the Backup directory.

I recently got my iphone 4 stolen, so I have borrowed my mom's iphone 3gs, but when I try and back it up, it gives me this error " backup is corrupt or not compatiable."  How can I get this information back?  I have tried uninstalling itunes and reinstalling.  I'm not having any luck with this at all.  Please help!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Even if deleted all the backups shown in iTunes Preferences>Devices, check the actual backup folder on your computer to be sure there isn't one still there that needs to be deleted.  You will find them at one of the following locations:
    Windows XP: \Documents and Settings\(username)\Application Data\Apple Computer\MobileSync\Backup\
    Windows Vista/7: \Users\(username)\AppData\Roaming\Apple Computer\MobileSync\Backup\
    Mac OS X: ~/Library/Application Support/MobileSync/Backup/

I'm trying to erase the restored backup on my MacBook Pro that was meant for my iPhone 5... I found out the software is corrupted and continued to affect my phone. Where do I find it And how do I erase it to start all over?
On a Mac your backups are in /Users/<your username>/Library/Application Support/MobileSync/Backup
(Open Finder, hold the Option key, and select "Library" from the Go menu to get to your user's Library folder.)
In Windows, the fastest way to get to your backup folders is:
    - (Windows 7 and below) Start -> Run -> type %appdata% (with the percents) and press return.
    - (Windows 8) Search -> type %appdata% (with the percents) and press return.
From Application Data, navigate to Apple Computer, Inc. -> MobileSync -> Backup.
You can match your device identifier with the backup folder name by clicking on the Serial Number field in iTunes (which will switch it to your device identifier.) Delete (or rename, if you're worried about making a mistake) the folder with the matching identifier.
I know this thread is about a corrupt backup blocking updating the backup process, but in case anyone is having a corrupt backup blocking a restore (a much scarier problem,) and you don't have the original device/data to make a new backup, I hope you'll take a look at the information I've been writing about fixing backups on my company's blog:

  • Why is my ipod touch saying "backup corrupt or not compatible" error message?

My iPod touch has been fine for years and I only really add new music sporadically. Now I am getting an error message saying that it cannot back up my iPod because it is corrupt or not compatible with the iPod. I have already done a factory reset and it still has not fixed the issue.

Did you try deleting the existing backup?
iTunes>Preferences>Devices and select that backup and click on Delete?

  • BACKUP CORRUPT OR NOT COMPATIBLE WITH IPOD

I have the current version of itunes, but when I go to update my ipod, I am getting an error message that says that it could not back up because the backup was corrupt or not compatible with the ipod. Below that, it says to delete the backup for this ipod and try again. I'm not sure what that means or how I can delete the backup.
Do I want to do a system restore?
I have tried it several times and have restarted my computer to no avail. Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

    Hello EmSpitz,
    And welcome to Apple Discussions!
Have you tried deleting any previous backups via iTunes Preferences? To do this, head to the Edit drop down menu and choose Preferences. When the window pops up, head over to the Devices tab. Here you will see a section where you can delete previous backups by highlighting a specific backup and choosing *Delete Backup*. Then restart iTunes and try restoring and updating your iPod once again.
If still no luck, double check for other backups via this location on your PC.

  • Backup corrupt or not compatible?

hi, I've updated my iPad to iOS 5, however when I try to restore to my previous backup, the message "iTunes could not restore the iPad because the backup was corrupt or not compatible".. How do I fix this? Thanks!

Hi I have the same problem - but with Iphone
And I find the problem why Itunes after install new OS5 cant restore backup - because during backup antivirus MCAFEE kills some files from BACKUP directory. I think it was picures from my PHOTOS.
When I delete last BACKUP from iTunes and SYNC my Iphone like first time usage. And everything will be on own places - notes, contacts, applications with saves, etc. AND lost ALL my PHOTOS. But !!!!!! happens more horror problem - my Iphone cant calls from CONTACTS!
When I tap to CONTACTS from main menu - iPhone shows for me contact list - when I tap to separate person iPhone drop me out to main menu without expanding VC card with photo and number. ALSO when iTunes SYNC my iPhone it shows ne next message :"itunes could not sync contacts to the iphone because the contacts are in use by the iphone.Close the contact setting in iPhone and sync again"
IS THIS BUG WITH NEW OS5??????
Please help to fix it ASAP!!!!
P.S. did the same way with iPAD2 with turning of MCAFEE and Ipad2 restore without message " "iTunes could not restore the iPad because the backup was corrupt or not compatible" - everything was fine.
