Ipod wont charge or connect

My 8gb Ipod Touch 2g shut off due to low battery, but when i plug it into my mac, it shows the low battery symbol with a lightning bolt and then the apple startup symbol, then shut off, and then repeats the same pattern over and over. the ipod will not connect to itunes and also will not charge. also after awhile of being plugged in the port where the cord is plugged it gets very warm. tried connecting my friends ipod and it connects fine and tried his ipod cord and still wont connect.

My grandson's iPod Touch 2nd gen just did the same thing. It didn't seem to recharge when connected to the Mac and when plugging in the really low battery symbology (thin red line lightening boat, etc. show up, then after a while the apple shows up. Sometimes the battery low symbol will show up again, followed shortly by the apple again, and then the apple stays there and the screen never goes to sleep while charging.) I tried resetting it after it had been charging using the wall socket charger for a while, but it seems not to be working. I'm going to see if it will charge using the wall charger for a while, but I'm not holding on to a lot of hope after seeing your post. I'll post back if I have any positive results.

I assume that you are referring to the ipod being plugged into your Mac when charging. The Mac cannot be in "sleep" mode if you want to charge the ipod by plugging into USB. However the Mac can be in "sleep" if you plug into the Firewire port. The reason is that the FireWire port is powered while the USB is not when the Mac is asleep.
BTW you can charge via the USB 1 and not just USB 2. I have a 4G ipod that will charge when connect to my older iBook (2002 model) that only has USB 1.

    - If not successful and you can't fully turn the iOS device fully off, let the battery fully drain. After charging for an least an hour try the above again.
    - Try another cable
    - Try on another computer
    - If still not successful that usually indicates a hardware problem and an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store is in order.

  • Ipad wont charge when connected to laptop but charges when connected to wall outlet

ipad wont charge when connected to laptop but charges when connected to wall outlet

The quickest way (and really the only way) to charge your iPad is with the included 10W or 12W (5W on Mini) USB Power Adapter. iPad will also charge, although more slowly, when attached to a computer with a high-power USB port (many recent Mac computers) or with an iPhone Power Adapter (5W). When attached to a computer via a standard USB port (2.5W, most PCs or older Mac computers) iPad will charge very slowly (but iPad indicates not charging). Make sure your computer is on while charging iPad via USB. If iPad is connected to a computer that’s turned off or is in sleep or standby mode, the iPad battery will continue to drain.
Apple recommends that once a month you let the iPad fully discharge & then recharge to 100%.

At this link http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/galaxy-tab-android-tablet,3014-11.html , tests show that the iPad 2 battery (25 watt-hours) will charge to 90% in 3 hours 1 minute. It will charge to 100% in 4 hours 2 minutes. The new iPad has a larger capacity battery (42 watt-hours), so using the 10W charger will obviously take longer. If you are using your iPad while charging, it will take even longer. It's best to turn your new iPad OFF and charge over night. In rare instances when using the Camera Connection Kit, you may notice that iPad does not charge after using the Camera Connection Kit. Disconnecting and reconnecting the iPad from the charger will resolve this issue.

  • Nano wont charge or connect with USB but will with firewire.

My nano has been acting CRAZY. When I hook it up to the firewire charger it charges, but of course it wont sync. It holds the charge fine. If I hook it up with the normal charger it does NOTHING. It wont charge or connect to iTunes. What did I do? Also, I use the same cable to do my iPhone. It worked great for both. Then it quit for the nano.

    Well,
You probably didn't have iTunes open (if that's where it syncs from).
If that' right, then when you want to charge or sync from your iPod, make sure iTunes is open.
This should help, but if you already did this, I'm sorry. I have no advice.

    Welcome to Apple Discussions.
Crackling and buzzing sound? Kind of worrying as this may indicate hardware malfunction. In that case you may need to take it to an Apple Store (if there is one) to let them check on it.
Can you borrow or get an iPod USB AC charger and use that to try to recharge the iPod?

my ipod wont charge at all and there is a continuous charging sign when plugged in ? what can i do

    - Have you tried differnt cable/USB port?wall chargers
    - Have you tried resetting it:
Press and hold the On/Off Sleep/Wake button and the Home
button at the same time for at least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - When you connect it you computer doe you se the iPod in iTunes?  If yes I would try restoring it.  First from backup and then to factory defaults.
    - You may have a battery or hardware problem and thus an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store may be in order.

  • My ipod wont charge. The screen flashed white yesterday and now it doesnt work

My ipod wont charge. It died yesterday and when i did the lock home button thing the screen flashed white. After that the dead signal wont even pop up now an suggestion. Its a ipod touch 4 generation, 36gb I tried charging it to my computer, wii,tv, wall plug NOTHING WORKS.!
    1. The lock button and home thing WONT WORK.

    Try:
    - Try another cable. Some 5G iPods were shipped with Lightning cable that were either initially defective or failed after short use.
    - iOS: Not responding or does not turn on
    - Also try DFU mode after try recovery mode

my ipad wont charge or connect to my itunes on my laptop please help

The best way to charge the iPad is via the wall plg - most computers, especially older ones, do not provide enough power to their USB ports in order to charge the iPad at a sufficient rate (it may still be charging but slowly; it will probably be a bit quicker if the iPad's screen is off).
In terms of connecting to your computer's iTunes, then there is troubleshooting help here http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1538
