Ipod wont charge :((

I have a 3rd generation nano. It's about 1 year and 3 months old.
Here is the problem: a little while ago my nano wouldn't charge anymore. When I plugged it in, either with my wall plug or the USB connector to my computer the battery would say it was fully charged, but then when I unplug (even after hours of charging) the battery would still be empty.

I am so disappointed in my brand new iPod Nano and the support I received yesterday when I called the Apple technical assistance number. Details: I won an iPod nano on Wednesday when attending a Government conference held in St Louis. One of the vendors at the event gave away this brand new iPod nano. It had never been opened and was brand new. The battery is defective. I have charged it numerous times using both a laptop and a direct A/C charger. The battery will not hold a charge. I've reset the iPod numerous times and still the battery will not hold a charge. Support attempt: I called Apple yesterday and when I gave them the serial number of the box I was told the iPod is over a year old and therefore not covered by warranty. Issue: that doesn't make sense. The battery is obviously defective and yet Apple does not stand by their product. I am shocked by this customer service from a company as widely known and popular as Apple. Outcome: so now I have the bug and want an iPod, but I am leaning towards buying an MP3 player instead. If iPod batteries are known to be defective then why would I want to try another one? Any thoughts??

my ipod wont charge i have replaced the cord and everything, all it does is show the apple icon then go to a battery sign of red then back to the sign its a constant repeating session what is wrong with it???

You can does that plug your iPod somewhere else like the sockets on walls because sometimes the mac is getting less power so it cant give a bit of power to your iPod if it gives the mac will shut down
If in the socket it doesn't charge get New power adapted if it still doesn't charge get a new USB cable if it still doesn't charge take it to apple :)

I am very disappointed in the apparent build quality of these players, my fist one's screen stopped working and under the warranty I got a replacement - which is just stopped working completely for no apparent reason after less than 4 months! Useless, will certainly be looking elsewhere for my next mp3 player is this is deemed acceptable - for the features I can get a different brand cheaper than a repair!

- Have you tried differnt cable/USB port?wall chargers
- Have you tried resetting it:
Press and hold the On/Off Sleep/Wake button and the Home
button at the same time for at least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
- When you connect it you computer doe you se the iPod in iTunes? If yes I would try restoring it. First from backup and then to factory defaults.
- You may have a battery or hardware problem and thus an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store may be in order.
