Ipod wont disconnect

Ipod won't finish the disconnection from the pc. The ipod screen gets stuck on the disconnect screen. If I try to disconnect it anyway, it just stays on that screen. I have tried a reboot on the ipod and a restore and it still does it. I figure it must be a pc problem, but I have no idea where to start. Any suggestion???

Take a look at these links: http://www.methodshop.com/gadgets/ipodsupport/donotdisconnect/index.shtml and http://www.ghacks.net/2007/01/05/fix-do-not-disconnect-on-ipod/.
Hope it helps.

  • Ipod wont disconnect - it just hangs

I just got my 60 gig video ipod loaded up the software on my Dell windows xp media center. All was going well. loaded up a bunch of songs - everything was still fine. then i followed the instructions for loading some images (15) using the brouse function (broused my a file in my images file structure)and chose a file with 15 images in it. The ipod then went into the dont disconnect state and staid thier for over an hour. I followed the instructions for forcing a disconnect and a window popped up saying that the "ipod cant disconnect files are in use by another program" I then followed the restart instructions and as my computer was restarting it then hung (never did that before). in desparation i had to cut the power to it. that worked but every time i reconnect my ipod it dose this. It does however work (when disconnected) and the images are on it. New and lost!

yeah, this is the most common new interaction we've been seeing between an antivirus/firewall and itunes/ipod. fingers crossed, we'll get some reliable treatment for this (other than the switching off McAfee prior to a sync workaround) sooner rather than later.
unfortunately, the discussions in the Captain Hook thread pretty much encapsulate the state of the art in the forums at the moment on treating this. (although i haven't debriefed with btabz with this for a few days.)
it might be worth periodically refreshing this thread with a post to check on further developments.
if you've got the time and the inclination, it might also be worth making a bug report directly to Apple about the issue:
    iPod Feedback
i figure it can't hurt, and might help with raising the visibility of the issue with the right folks at that Apple end of things. (i don't know if there's any similar sort of feedback channel in place over at McAfee.)

  • HT201210 why does it say my ipod is disconnected and because of this it wont let me backup or download my music

why doesnt my ipod connect to the computer? it keeps saying that my ipod is disconnected so i cant download my music or updates and ive tried everything help would be nice thanks

    - Reboot the computer
    - Reset the iPod. Nothing is lost
Reset iPod touch: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Make sure you are connecting directly to the computer. Not through an extension cable or hub
    - Try another USB port.
    - Try another cable.- Lod at the dock connector in the iPOd. Look for corroded or bent contacts and other abnormalites
    - Try another computer. If problem still occurs then you likely have hardware problem with the IPod and an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Aple store is in order.

I updated to 7.0 and now my ipod wont play in my car stero. I have reset, bought an itunes song and reset again but nothing is working. Pandora wont play. I can hear it very slightly in my speakers if I turn up the speakers but it is so faint. It plays thru its own speakers and my radio plays thru my speakers in my car so my its not my speakers.Help! Hi Novagurl2369!
I have an article for you that can provide some helpful troubleshooting steps to address your issue:
    No sound through stereo headset1
Inspect the headset jack for debris and clean if necessary.
Connect the headset and make sure the connector is pushed in all the way.
Check the volume setting. Adjust the volume by pressing the volume up and down button on the left side of the iPhone.
If you are trying to listen to music and cannot hear any audio, make sure that the music on iPhone is not paused. Try squeezing the headset microphone to resume playback. Additionally, from the Home screen you can choose iPod > Now Playing, then tap Play.
Make sure the latest version of iTunes is installed on the computer that you are syncing the iPhone with (songs purchased from the iTunes Store using earlier versions of iTunes won't play).
Try another Apple headset (some third-party headsets require an adapter to be used with original iPhone).
Try a different song or video.
Check to see if the iPhone alert sounds or other iPhone sound effects exhibit the same audio issues.
Disconnect the headset from the iPhone and see if sound comes from the built-in speaker.

  • Ipod wont start up

My 3G Ipod got disconnected while applying the latest update. Now It wont mount to my pc. When I plug in the Ipod the Apple symbol Appers for a few seconds, then a picture of the Ipod plug (the part that plugs into the bottom of the Ipod) appers on the Ipod screen, there is also and arrow pointing away from the plug. I'm guessing its telling me to plug it in, but it is pluged in!! The Ipod then turns off after 2seconds. When its pluged in a message pops up on my computer saying "USB Device Not Recognised".
I also have a Photo Ipod and it will mount to my computer no problem. I have tried all the USB ports but same thing keeps displaying on the Ipod! Resetting it doesn't fix it either.
3G   Windows XP   Ipod Photo works fine.

    Hello,
First try ] these five steps (known as the five Rs) and it would conquer most iPod issues.
    http://www.apple.com/support/ipod/five_rs/
If does not work, please have a check of your iPod in diagnostic mode
    Diagnostic mode solution
If you have tried trouble shooting your iPod to no avail after all the steps above, chances are your iPod has a hardware problem. The iPod's built-in Diagnostic Mode is a quick and easy way to determine if you have a "bad" iPod.
You need to restart your iPod before putting it into Diagnostic Mode. Check that your hold switch is off by sliding the switch away from the headphone jack. Toggle it on and off to be safe.
Press and hold the following combination of buttons simultaneously for approximately 10 seconds to reset the iPod.
    iPod 1G to 3G: "Menu" and "Play/Pause"
iPod 4G+ (includes Photo, Nano, Video, and Mini): "Menu" and "Select"
The Apple logo will appear and you should feel the hard drive spinning up. Press and hold the following sequence of buttons:
iPod 1G to 3G: "REW", "FFW" and "Select"
iPod 4G+ (includes Photo, Nano, Video, and Mini): "Back" and "Select"
You will hear an audible chirp sound (3G models and higher) and the Apple logo should appear backwards. You are now in Diagnostic Mode. Navigate the list of tests using "REW" and "FFW". The scroll wheel will not function while in diagnostic mode. For further details on Diagnostic mode can be found at http://www.methodshop.com/mp3/ipodsupport/diagnosticmode/
Try to do the 5in1, HDD R/W and HDD scan tests. Some successful cases have been reported after the running the few tests under the Diagnostic mode. In case it does not work in your case, and the scan tests reports show some errors then it proves your iPod has a hardware problem and it needs a repairing service.

My ipod wont reset. I get an x with a circle around it, what does that mean?

    Hello Phoenixx56,
This article is for that exact situation.
iPod Displays a Red "X" Icon
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ts1463
    Resolution
    Restore iPod from Disk Mode
    Disconnect iPod from your computer.
Manually put iPod into Disk Mode.
Open the latest version of iTunes and connect iPod.
    Restore iPod.
    Setup Service for iPod
If you cannot force your iPod into disk mode and restore it, then your iPod may need service. Click one of the links below to setup an iPod Service Request online or make a reservation at the Genius Bar before visiting your local Apple Retail Store.
    All the very best,

  • Ipod wont restore or go into disc mode

My ipod wont turn on properly. when i try it displays the apple icon for a few seconds and then the folder/exclamation mark icon before turning itself off. I tried restoring the software but i get an error message saying 'can't mount ipod'. It wont go into disc mode either, i just get the apple icon. I think it needs professional help and i know it hasnt been a year since i bought it and it should still be under warranty but i cant find my receipt. any help would be greatly appreciated.
    thanks

I just updated itunes with my ipod connected.  When the update finished my computer didn't recognize the ipod and then itunes thought there were 2 ipods connected to my computer.  After I disconnected the iPod I tried to turn it on where I get the big red X and what sounds like hard drive crunching.  I've tried started in disc mode, but it won't.
And smacking the iPod on the table, is that really the way to get it to work???

  • Ipod wont turn on /show up my computer

    hey there
my ipod wont turn on. it sounds as if its firing up, then fails and displays the sad i pod icon. I've tried restoring factory settings etc but because my computer wont recognise it this can be done
if anyone could help me out i;d be very grateful
    Thanks

The Sad iPods icon or folder with an exclamation mark are the toughest problems to deal with, and must do a Restore in order to fix it. However, when your iPod is showing this icon, it is probably too late for your computer to recognize the iPod.
    1. Try these five steps (known as the five Rs) and it would conquer most iPod issues.
    http://www.apple.com/support/ipod/five_rs/
    2. Try to put the iPod into Disk Mode if it fails to appear on the desktop
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=93651
    Still can't see your iPod?
Several things could keep iPod from appearing in iTunes or in the Desktop/Finder when you connect it to your PC/Mac. The most likely causes are listed below in logical order. Check from the top of the list to see if that is what's keeping iPod from appearing.
    3. Try to wait 30 minutes while iPod is charging.
    4. Try another known-good FireWire or USB through Dock Connector cable.
    5. Try another known-good FireWire or USB port on your computer .
    6. Try to disconnect all devices from your computer's FireWire and USB ports.
    7. Windows users having trouble with their iPods should locate a Mac user. We've found that in many cases when an iPod won't show up on a PC that it will show up on the Mac. Then it can be restored. When the PC user returns to his computer the iPod will be recognized by the PC, reformatted for the PC, and usable again. By the way, it works in reverse too. A Mac user often can get his iPod back by connecting it to a PC and restoring it.
    8. Try to do an Erase (Disk Utility) on a Mac computer or a format with a PC (Disk Management tool) but ensure you choose the right Drive (your iPod not your Hard Disk of your computer). You may need to plug and unplug your iPod with the computer for several attempts, and switching around Format and Restore, and hope out of sudden, it will get recognized.
    9. Diagnostic mode solution – which I copied from a thread of a post from thinktwice
“Then I cam across this special Diganostics Mode that you can get to by resetting and then while the Apple is showing pressing the Select and backwards keys simultaneously. It bring up and weird Diagnostic utility witha a abunch of tests. Here is what I did
    - I tried the 5in1 test and got and error on Firewire.
    - I did the HDD R/W and surprisingly it passed.
    - I went on to the HDD scan. This supposedly tkaes acouple of minute so I waited. I think 4-5 dots appeared then nothing. The iPod started to get hot. THe disk was spinning away. After a while the battery got very low. THis test chews up the battery. So I escaped out by resetting and went to connect it to a power source.
My USB was dangling out of my computer and I was too lazy to get the Firewire AC adapter thing going so I connected expecting the whole lockup thing with iTunes. Surprise. IT was recognized immediately and has been working like a champ. So go figure.
Details on Diag mode can be found at http://www.methodshop.com/mp3/ipodsupport/diagnosticmode/index.shtml
10.Let me ask you a question, if an iPod with no iPod software with it. When your connect it with a computer, what would happen?
Yeah, the computer will treat it as a fresh external hard disk, which will get force mounted, the computer will ask you to format the iPod. It does not really matter the format is completed or not, the key is to erase (or partly) the corrupted iPod software on the iPod, after that the computer will recognize it.
Once it has been completed, eject your iPod, open the iPod updater and interestingly, you will able to do the Restore this time.
Base on the above, that's why I suggest Windows users who experience trouble with their iPods should locate a Mac machine or vice versa. PC computer will not recognize a Mac formatted iPod, but it will get mounted in an attempt to format your iPod.
But, if none of these steps address the issue, your iPod may need to be repaired. You can arrange for service at the iPod Service Website.
I have just read an interesting solution about the Sad iPod, it does make sense but the warranty will be waived once you open the iPod, I would not do it myself as I am not good on doing this

  • Ipod wont shut off or restore :(

I want to restore my Ipod, but I follow the directions and nothing is working how it should.
My ipod wont shut off (yes I've reset it)
I plug it into my computer and it goes from "do not disconnect" to "okay to disconnect" back and forth, back and forth
I opened Itunes and I don't see the "source" (my Ipod) so I can do a restore on it.
    What do I do?
I tried to open the apple updater and it gives me a windows error and "needs to close" so that wont work
what the **** is wrong with this

I was able to put it in Disk Mode. When I plugged it into the computer it said "your ipod needs to be restored to be formatted with windows. would you like to open itunes to do this" or something along those lines. BUT when I click okay, itunes opens and my Ipod keeps going from "OK to Disconnect" to "Do not disconnect" over and over and I can't do anything.
The Ipod update still isn't working
    what now?

  • IPod wont open on Itunes

I downloaded songs and now the ipod wont show up to update the new songs. I have tried all the help topics with no luck. Do not want to spend alot of time adding and deleting stuff on my computer. HELP

I also have that problem sometimes. Have you tried disconnecting the Ipod from the computer, and then reconnecting it? That usually works for me on my 2d gen 2GB nano (using Windows XP).

  • IPod wont show up at all.

The iPod seems to charge (sometimes), but wont show up on the computer. The iPod wont even show the "don't disconnect" icon on the screen. I've tried different computers (Mac and Win) and have reset the iPod, but to no avail. The only other thing I can think it could be is the port going bad, but I'm just wondering if anyone knows of anything else?
    Thanks
    Dave
