Ipod wont show up in itunes after i restore to factory settings

My ipod does not show up in my itunes list but it shows up in my computer as a drive
it all started when i got my ipod back after getting it fixed ( it was a problem with the battery) well it said that i needed to restore the factory settings so i did then a message came up and said your ipod is now restarting it will come back to your iptunes list after it has restarted.... but it didnt
and now when i plug my ipod in i get a bubble come up that says:
"windows was unable to save all the data for the file F:\iPod_control the data has been lost the error may be caused by a failure of your computer hardware or netowrk connection please try and save this file elsewhere"
i have done everything i can to try and fix this (5 R's and such) but i have gotten no results
please help quickly as i use my ipod all the time and cant function without it =]

I have a similar issue.
Mine shows in iTunes and in PC. It will also allow me to sync.
But when I do sync, it runs fine for about 10 minutes, then I get an error similar to yours with a directory location. It keeps syncing and will periodically show the errors. Then it will lock up.
I have run chkdsk, awindows utility (chkdsk [driver letter]: /R /F) over the iPod when it has been restored and it found nearly 400mb of bad sectors.
I though this would fix the problem but is has not. When I run chkdsk over it again, it does not find anymore bad sectors (it does however tell me that it has 400mb of bad sectors logged.)
I am banging my head against a wall trying to fix this, or even find out what the issue really is. I assume it is a dodgey hard drive, but I do not want to replace it and still have the problem.

okay so i hadn't updated my ipod in a couple of months (bad i know but we have really slow internet here and it takes forever to download things) then i downloaded the update a couple of days ago and it started installing then came up with an error saying it failed.
It was late at night so i just switched off my laptop and went to bed, and the next morning i tried to turn on my ipod and it was stuck on the connect to itunes screen. When I plug it in it comes up with a box saying "Windows needs to install device driver software for your Apple Mobile Device (Recovery Mode)" I clicked the locate and install device driver software, but it can't find anything.
It wont come up in itunes and i've tried the restoring thing, but it's not working...maybe i'm doing it wrong? idk help anyone?

I HAVE THE SAME PROBLEM! Downloaded 9 point whatever it was, and then it said i needed to update my iPod, so i lugged it in, all was hunky dory and then it said i had to restore my iPod and so i tried that and now it wont restore it, keeps coming up wit some whacky error and the iPod is stuck on the connect to iTunes screen and its driving me insaaaaaaane!!!!

After update my ipod doesnt show up in itunes. i plug it in and you hear the bleep noise but nothing happens after that. All my drivers are up to date. i already reinstalled itunes and all the apple items that goes with it.

What version of iTunes do yu have? You do have at least XP with SP3?

IPhone 3G(S) wont show up in iTunes after installing Snow Leopard

I just installed Snow Leopard 10.6.3 yesterday and now when I plug in my iPhone 3G(S) it wont launch iTunes and wont show up in iTunes when I open it.
It launches and shows up in iPhoto with no problem?
Any hints on what to do?

ive got a fifth generation video ipod, and i think ive got itunes 6.0.1 or something of the sort, and whenever i hook it up to my computer via usb, the ipod displays the "do not disconnect" symbol but wont show up on itunes.

I have plugged my ipod into my mac and it charges, but wont show up in itunes or on the desktop, I have tried resetting the ipod, reinstalling itunes and checking for all updates. I have also changed cables, ports and plugged it into a different computer and the same thing occured. The ipod is not new, and it used to work, now i just want to re-sync it.

Daughter IPOD Touch 4th lost all music from itunes, Itunes suggested to restore to factory settings. Have done so last few days, all showing 20 hours to restore then times out and starts back to 20 hours again. Will not sync at all. HELP

IPOD TOUCH(4th gen) MUSIC DISPLAY has wiped out all my music. The music I have is all still on ITUNES but will NOT SYNC. When attempted a displayes message appeared- Cannot read contents of IPOD (my IPOD name), go to Summary tab to Restore to factory settings. When I click OK it takes me to a CLICK on RESTORE OPTION, which I did. Then it explains that I will lose all APPS, etc.. to restore. I clicked OK again and it shows my IPOD is Downloading Software Update. The only thing being it has done this for 3 days now. It starts by stating will take 20 hours, goes down to 12 or 10 and prompts OUT and when I redo the thing again it starts back up at 20 hours but continually times out. *Also, in case it matters ,the SYNC option on my IPOD in ITUNES is Highlighted as to where I cannot use that option. Everytime I start it back up I get the same message (Cannot read contents of IPOD, go to Summary Tab,etc..) Help.

Itunes promted me to update my software and my iphone 4s froze with the bar underneath the apple logo. I pushed the home button and start for 10 secs. Now itunes is saying restore to factory settings, it says in itunes I backed up . Should I reset?

Thanks. The prompt it is giving me is if you are expeirincing problems with your iphone you can restore its original settings by clicking restore. Should I click that? It is saying my iphone is in recovery mode.

For some reason, my iphone does not show up on my itunes after upgrading my mac to leopard and ilife 08. The phone was syncing properly before the upgrade. I also installed all the patches that were available for downloading but I did not try syncing between the main update and patches. I am running itunes 7.6 and had been running 7.5.1 before that. My iphone is on firmware 1.1.2 and I have it set to manually sync. My ipod video is syncing fine but I had that set to automatic syncing.
I checked the system profile and the usb is showing the iphone just fine.
Can anybody help?

Yup. It does work, had the exact same problem, iPhone showed in system profiler under USB, and iTunes would not recognize, reinstall fixed it all. It almost looks like a permission problem after the reinstall to where some .plist files got wrong settings set, repairing permissions might work too.

My ipod wont show up in itunes and I can't restore it

Currently, my iPod won't show up in iTunes. I have reset it multiple times, but to no avail. I have gone back and forth from disk mode several times and still nothing works. Every now and then iTunes says it's preparing to restore iPod, though the device doesn't show up, but then nothing happens. I have re-installed iTunes, rebooted, re-installed drivers, and I'm at a loss as to what to do next. Any ideas?

5th Generation iPod wont show up on itunes

I recently got an iPod from someone, but when I plug it in my computer it won't show up in iTunes. When I got it, it had no battery at all. So I charged it and now I would say it is at about 75%. The iPod works fine, but I tried resetting it a few times and that didn't do anything. I want to restore it to factory settings but I need iTunes to do that, and iTunes isn't recognizing my iPod. It is a 5th generation 60GB. The iPod currently is fully charged.
