Ipod Wont Shut Down

My ipod won't shutt off. I hold the off button and it appears to momentarily shut off then the battery icon shows up in the window and it shows fully charged. It doesnt stay shut down. Obviously the battery depletes itself while not being used. I have re-set the ipod and I have also completley restore it. All software is up date date. Im baffled, any advice ?

Since my last sync, my nano will not shut down either. The following message pops up continually (even after I dismiss it): "firewire connections are not supported. To transfer songsm,, connect the USB cable provided. Press CENTER to dismiss." Can anybody help get rid of this message. I have made no changes to I Tunes, I have not updated the program, I have made no changes to my Nano. It has worked great for years, but now...

    - Try a reet:
Reset iPod touch:  Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Next connect to computer and restore if it shows in iTunes.
    - If still one, then lett the battery fully drain.  After charging fro an hour try the above again.

    Hi,
Try restoring the iPod touch, as described here: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1414
Do you have any 3rd-party firewall software on your Mac? Another user, Luc, describes a similar issue caused by firewall software here: http://discussions.apple.com/message.jspa?messageID=10499334#10499334
If the issues resolved by disabling the security software, it probably just needs to be reconfigured.

  • IPod Nano shuts down randomly and doesn't restart unless connected

This happened to me two days ago. I was working on a pool listening to a podcast, with the iPod in my pocket. I was wearing black pants and it was very hot, so I'm not sure if it's simply an issue of overheating, but what happened was while I was listening to the podcast the iPod completely shut down. I took it out of my pocket and tried to reset it holding the menu and center buttons, but the iPod wouldn't respond to this. The iPod was completely charged the night before so I'm sure this isn't an issue. I took it home and hooked it up to my computer and it worked fine. But today, it did the same thing, listening to the same podcast (TalkRadar) and wouldn't respond to the menu and center buttons again, but it responded to plugging it in to the computer. Something else happened, too, the iPod would turn on and off randomly even while connected to the computer and I would have to unplug the iPod and re-plug it back in. Does anybody have an idea of what the problem is? I want to know whether or not I should send it in for repair.

If resetting or restoring the ipod does not work, take it to an Apple Store. Let the staff examine it. If you have Apple Care, call them.

  • ITunes wont shut down

Sometimes, especially after a long session using my iTunes, it continues to function but wont shut-down when I try to close it. The only way to close it is to initiate the task manager and shut it down via override.
Is there a fix needed for this problem?
Does it signify a more serious problem?

  • EXTERNAL HD WONT SHUT DOWN AFTER SHUTTING DOWN LOGIC ,HELP

When Im done recording in logic and after I close down the session and shut logic down. I then try to shut down my external HD and I get a message saying " LOGIC IS STILL IN USE AND EXTERNAL HD CAN NOT BE SHUT DOWN, TRY QUITTING APPLICATIONS AND THEN SHUT DOWN" Logic is already shut down and there are no other applications running and it wont let me shut down my external HD. I tried to switch HD's and it still wont shut down after I close all applications. PLEASE HELP....

When you say shut down, you mean "eject" right?
Will it, incidently, eject during a session when you haven't used Logic at all?
One thing you should make sure of with your external HD is that it is formatted correctly - it needs to "un" journalled... may not be the problem, but worth checking.
What kind of external HD is it?

My macbook wont shut down when I close lid, how do I prevent this?
This had happened before and I seem to recall having to disable blue tooth.
    Is this correct?
    Charles

It's not suppose to shut down when closing the lid, it's supposed to sleep.

  • Netbook NB305 Wont shut down.

I have had my net book for about 2 weeks and it now will not shut down. I can put it to sleep or hibernation but it wont shut down or restart. Cntl/alt/del wont work either, so I dont seem to be able to shut it down, either with or without the ac cord attached. I have run a virus check and there is nothing wrong.

    Hi
What happens if you go to start -> shutdown? Do you get any error messages?
Maybe there are some different processes running in the OS background which prevents the OS from shutdown.
I would go to msconfig and would check the startup tab.
There you can find some apps which would be loaded while booting up the unit
Maybe its just a OS issue
The other solution proposal; try a system reinstallation. Maybe this is a option for you

  • Macbook pro wont shut down without holding the power button nor cycle for updates to restart.

macbook pro wont shut down without holding the power button nor cycle for updates to restart

Sorry I said sorta wrong. I can shut down and I can update to the point of restart but it just sat for 45 minutes after an update. It goes through the update and to restart then the bars chase each other in a circle and it never restarts. So I hit the power button and go through normal reboot but loosing the update in the process. It does not matter how long I wait for a natural reboot after an update or click to restart it will chase the little bar in circles all day literally and never reboot.

  • My mac book pro wont shut down or let me log off

My macbook pro wont shut down or let me log off.  The only thing it will do is sleep.  Finder says I have programs running in the background that is causing this problem.  How do I close the programs down when I can't find what is running?

  • IPod Touch Shuts down and Wifi stops working

I am having a huge pain in the butt issue. I loved the iPod touch for the first year I had it, after which I had a problem, but that was fine. I was in warranty and got a new one. A year later now, I am having another issue. It seems like the things are disposable! Not too impressed with Apple.
My iPod will shut down on its own every couple of days completely on its own, which I have heard is a common problem, but when I turn it back on, the date is set to December 31, 1969 (I believe this is the beginning of the Unix Calendar?), but everything else appears to be working. When I launch any apps that require wireless, they appear to work fine, but nothing loads. i.e. Safari loads the bar part way, email continually loads, but nothing happens, etc. The only way to get it back to normal is to go into iTunes and do a restore from a backup. I would like to go to factory defaults and start from scratch, but I have a tonne of data on there that I would need some way of getting off safely. I should also mention that when the iPod shuts down, the only way to restart it is to plug it in.
I can't seem to find anyone else who has had this problem. I would appreciate any help!
    Thanks,
    A

Thanks for the tip so far Lucas, but i am stuck at the "Connect to iTunes" screen of the recovery process. when i try to restore i was prompted that "The Ipod Software Update server could not be contacted". I am currently at work so i am wondering if i am being blocked from contacting the server because of the firewall and other network security measures. But again thanks at least i have some level of hope.
