IPOD WONT SHUT OFF

I stupidly went to settings on my 20gb ipod and clicked reset... It went to Japanese and then one of the songs displayed in english. There is still some Japanese writing at the top of the screen. I tried everything in the book but it's just frozen. Can anyone out there help me??

Hi mtry1,
Also, if a resetting the iPod doesn't seem to be working, then try these things, and see if they help:
-- Try toggling the Hold switch. Flip the "Hold" switch on your iPod (located on the top) back and forth several times.
If that doesn't seem to do anything, then try this sort of technique:
1 - Connect your iPod to your computer.
2 - Now begin to rapidly toggle the "Hold" switch back and forth while your iPod is connected.
3 - After you've done that for a little while (for perhaps 15-20 seconds), eject the iPod if needed, then disconnect it from your computer.
-- Try letting your iPod's battery drain out. Use your iPod enough that its battery finally goes completely dead, asking for you to re-charge it.
At this point, connect your iPod to your computer's USB port, or connect it to a charger, and leave it there for a couple of hours.
Now see if your iPod will turn off after trying that.
-- If none of these work, you might want to try Restoring your iPod. Note that this does delete all the contents off the iPod, but often clears up iPod issues you might be facing.

  • Ipod wont shut off or restore :(

I want to restore my Ipod, but I follow the directions and nothing is working how it should.
My ipod wont shut off (yes I've reset it)
I plug it into my computer and it goes from "do not disconnect" to "okay to disconnect" back and forth, back and forth
I opened Itunes and I don't see the "source" (my Ipod) so I can do a restore on it.
    What do I do?
I tried to open the apple updater and it gives me a windows error and "needs to close" so that wont work
what the **** is wrong with this

I was able to put it in Disk Mode. When I plugged it into the computer it said "your ipod needs to be restored to be formatted with windows. would you like to open itunes to do this" or something along those lines. BUT when I click okay, itunes opens and my Ipod keeps going from "OK to Disconnect" to "Do not disconnect" over and over and I can't do anything.
The Ipod update still isn't working
    what now?

  • 30Gb Video Ipod wont shut off

I have a 30GB Ipod video. It works fine, all features work, plays video, etc. The problem is it wont turn off using the Play button. I have reset the ipod 3 times, still nothing.
    Any idea's?
    Joe

I had the same problem. I ended up just letting the battery run out and then recharged it.
It was working fine, but now it freezes during songs randomly and wont respond. I switch the hold button back and forth and press menu and play till it restarts but then a little later it will freeze again. I thought that maybe restoring it would do the trick but now it will not sync. It will start loading my songs but at some point, a message box pops up saying the requested file is unavailable. After that, when I unplug my iPod, it is frozen on the "Do Not Disconnect" screen, and I have to reset it. How do I get my iPod to sync?

I got my ipod (30 GB - U2) in July and have the same problem. Every now and then it just won't shut off, can't figure out why. I switch it off by pressing down the play/pause-button until it shuts down and then lock. But once I unlock it, well it's still been on power and the battery capacity has been lowered. Have not tried to reset it, but I'm considering it..

Just wait a couple of seconds and try again because the iPod can be busy doing something. If that doesn't work then you should reset your iPod(to reset hold menu + the center button and wait untill the Apple logo comes up).

  • Help! My Ipod wont shut off....

I turned on my Ipod, clicked on "shuffle songs" and it froze. It wont respond to anything I do. I've tried plugging it in to my computer, doesnt do anything. I've tried plugging it in to the wall outlet, doesnt do anything. I've tried toggling the hold switch and pressing the off and center button, doesnt do anything. It keeps making sounds like its trying to do something, and its stuck on the main screen. Its been doing this for over an hour now, and I REALLY dont want to have to drive all the way to the Apple store. Can anyone give me any suggestions on what I can do?

same here. i've tried the first 4 of the "5R's". I REALLY want to avoid that last "R".

  • 5G iPod wont shut off??

I came home tonight and noticed my daughters iPod in my Ilive radio with ipod dock... The song was stuck with the backlight and it won't turn off... Suggestions?

    Hello,
I can't help you, except to say my 5G Ipod does the same thing. I have had to let it run down completely and then recharge it to clear the fault - if it does it one more time I will take it back for an exchange (it's done it twice so far).

Will not turn on, will not turn on unless connected to power, or unexpected power off
    1. Verify that the Sleep/Wake button functions. If it does not function, inspect it for signs of damage. If the button is damaged or is not functioning when pressed, seek service.

  • My ipod randomly shut off and wont turn back on

My ipod touch shut off last night while i was charging it and it wont turn back on

Please tell me that it has NEVER been jailbroke.  If it has never been jailbroke, here are some standard repair procedures:
First, try a system reset.  It cures many ills and it's quick, easy and harmless...
Hold down the on/off switch and the Home button simultaneously until you see the Apple logo.  Ignore the "Slide to power off" text if it appears.  You will not lose any apps, data, music, movies, settings, etc.
If the Reset doesn't work, try a Restore.  Note that it's nowhere near as quick as a Reset.  It could take well over an hour!  Connect via cable to the computer that you use for sync.  From iTunes, select the iPad/iPod and then select the Summary tab.  Follow the on-screen directions for Restore and be sure to say "yes" to the backup.  You will be warned that all data (apps, music, movies, etc.) will be erased but, as the Restore finishes, you will be asked if you wish the contents of the backup to be copied to the iPad/iPod.  Again, say "yes."
At the end of the basic Restore, you will be asked if you wish to sync the iPad/iPod.  As before, say "yes."  Note that that sync selection will disappear and the Restore will end if you do not respond within a reasonable time.  If that happens, only the apps that are part of the IOS will appear on your device.  Corrective action is simple -  choose manual "Sync" from the bottom right of iTunes.
If you're unable to do the Restore (or it doesn't help), go into Recovery Mode per the instructions here.  You WILL lose all of your data (game scores, etc,) but, for the most part, you can redownload apps and music without being charged again.  Also, read this.

  • 7th Gen iPod Nano shuts off randomly

My iPod Nano is just about my favourite piece of hardware that I've ever bought from apple. I'm primarily a pc user when it comes to computers, and having a basic, small iPod means I can listen to music and podcasts and leave the more complicated tasks to the equipment that I've spent more money on. However, my iPod recently started bugging out in a way that makes it nearly unuseable.
The iPod will quite happily run for a day or so if I don't use the touch screen. This is fine for podcasts as I can use the volume and play-pause on the outside. However, if I want to make a choice on the screen, about one in five touches will cause the iPod to shut off. If I reset it, it will either flash the apple logo and shut off again, or get to the homescreen with the loading symbol, then make three short beeps and shut off again. General internet searches have proved fruitless, and although the iPod is cheap enough that I can buy a new one without it being too much of an issue, I would much prefer to keep that money for other things.
Although apple hardware isn't my area of expertise, I believe that there may be some kind of issue with the battery, as there have been black-outs and brown-outs in my area and my iPod has ben charging during a couple of these. I was thinking that the RAM could also be in bad shape for some reason, but I did a dram test, which it passed. The iPod is currently in diagnostic mode, so I can give information on the battery and the like if that would help, but I have no idea what the numbers mean personally.
My warranty ran out a few weeks ago and I live about two hours from the nearest Genius store, so bringing it back isn't really an option. Any help would be much appreciated.

Well the bug appears to have been fixed by the 1.0.3 patch. My battery is still stuffed so I will have to buy a new one at one point, but at least this issue is sorted out.

  • Internal mic wont shut off even though its disabled. How do I fix this?

Im trying to run samplitude music studio mx software and use the line in and mic in ports to record. The external mic that's built into my laptop wont shut off, and records background noise on my tracks. I have an HP Pavilion dv7-6c95dx with an i7-2670QM processor running windows 7 home premium. How do I disable it from somewhere else besides the control panel, because it suggests the mic is disabled already? will I need a different laptop to run the software?

    Hi,
Did you solve this problem because I have EXACTLY the same one.  I am running Samplitude Music Studio 2013 on Windows 7 Home Premium on a Pavillion D6.  I have high quality external mike input ruined becaus the on-board condenser mike will not disable, even though I disabled the "Integrated microphone array" as recommended.  Is it because some software or other device driver keeps it active? Samplitude has no disable function for input devices and it makes no difference if you run WDM, MME or ASIO device drivers.
I did have to replace the computer screen once. Possible glitch? I hear DELL stopped ptting built-in mikes into their laptops!
    Any advice/help deeply appreciated!

  • Help! My Ipod wont switch off!

    please help me..
my ipod wont switch off..i hv a 30GB ipod video..
normally it will switch off automatically after a few mins if i dont play songs, but recently it wont switch off and it's using up the battery!
and when i press hold Play button to switch off manually, it doesnt hv any effect..
    help!
does this happen to any of you??

I think this is some type of bug. I have had this problem with my iPod photo and now my 5th gen. iPod.
It's most noticeable after ejecting the iPod from the computer. It takes a short while before you an turn the iPod off. Sometimes it will not turn off when viewing a video. So hit the menu button and start playing a song - then it will probably turn off. It's a bug because the iPod will sense the button press by changing the top porting of the display (toggling time etc..) but it simply won't turn off. I wonder if it's something to do with the hard drive spinning at the moment???
Anyway, try playing a song and try again.
