Ipod wont sync after a crash

My computer crashed. After it rebooted and fixed some problems, I get an error message stating I need to reload Ipod software. Will I loose all my media if I reload programs. I have many many tunes & do not want to have to rip my life away again.

The answer is you shouldn't but it doesn't come with a guarantee, which is why you have iTunes backed up, right ?
If you don't do it now.
Putting a copy of the music file on your desktop will save you grief if something goes wrong and you'll have a full up-to-date file to use as back up (I recommend and external hard drive ) in case you haven't got one already.
You can delete the file on the desktop when you're done.

  • IPOD WONT SYNC AFTER ONE NIGHT OF HAVEING IT!

i just connected my touch to my computer and on the itunes window the following came up: ''this ipod cannot be synced b/c the apple mobile device service is not started'' my ipod was on but it was not syncing

Welcome to the discussion groups! Sorry it is under these circumstances.
A Google search pointed me to
http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=1838328&tstart=0 (no solutions, but some suggestions to try (different USB port, for example). And it pointed to
    http://yukichigai.googlepages.com/iphonex64 to try.
Before looking at these make sure your OS is all up to date, all service packs, etc., and you have the latest versions of iTunes and Quicktime.
One thing you don't say: did it EVER sync? If so, did you do anything to change the iPod? "jail breaking" or anything?

  • Ipod stops syncing after about 11gb on data transferred

ok, my ipod stops syncing after i transfer about 11gb of data.
my music collection alone is 12gb, i also have alot of photos and videos and other contents.
it doesnt matter which format the ipod is in, mac formatted or windows formatted its the same result.
    its an 80Gb ipod classic.
any one have any clue as to why this is happening?

Actually at 1200ish songs the iPod hard drive starts making some severe clicking/clanking noises. I'm guessing it means the hard drive is screwed since it's the same symptoms as my last iPod
Why does this happen? Both my iPods were about 2 years old when the hdd's started clicking, surely hdd's last for more than two years?

Hi, I'm having the same problem as crystalfromsaline.

I'm currently using Snow Leopard 10.6.3 and have the latest version of itunes.
Hope this is enough info, any help you could offer would be much appreciated.

  • IPod stops syncing after a while, won't eject and then crashes iTunes

Whenever I try to update my iPod Classic 80GB, after 1000 songs or so the iPod stops syncing (gets stuck on a song). Then the iPod won't eject, even when dragged into trash.
Then, when trying to eject iPod or quit iTunes, iTunes crashes and has to be force quitted with iPod cable removed.
When I check my iPod it says there is no music/photos etc on it.
I have reinstalled the latest iTunes and restored my iPod with the latest version, my OS software is all up to date too.

  • Ipod wont sync

so recently i got my computer reformatted i have 2 hard drives in it one with all my stuff on it and the other is new so i tried to sync my ipod after i reformatted and now it wont sync the songs and video comes up with 2 error messages itunes could not copy(song name) to the ipod (ipod name) because file could not be read or written and the other one say attempting to copy to the Disk (Ipod name) the disk could be read from or written this is new cause before i got it reformatted it would load them up even with the 2 hard drives any one know the problem cause it even affects the songs when i play them on itunes it pauses for a bit the plays it again

Well... this is where it gets weird. She's had an eMachines computer for a few years... gives her trouble with the DVD and CD drives. Still works ok, otherwise. Then I got her the iPod and it works ok for a month or so, until the computer crashes every time she connects the iPod to any of the USB ports. Everything else still works fine in the USB ports but the iPod. Every so often between crashes she can get the iPod to update. Then the computer stops working together.
So she junked the computer and bought a brand new HP (tried to get her to buy a Mac, but she doesn't listen to me.) and the whole computer works fine. She plugs in the iPod and nothing happens. No error messages. Nothing. It's like nothing is plugged in. Won't even charge the battery if it's connected to the computer. I think it's possible that the iPod itself might actually display the "Do not disconnect." but otherwise... there's nothing.
Explain to me the reset and restore... she's done something, but I think it's just the regular reset (laying the iPod flat and pushing different parts of the click wheel.)
(And I don't know her update settings off hand... it should be auto update... but I'm just guessing.)

  • My Ipod wont sync with my new library and I dont know why not. It will show that it is connected through home sharing, but it is only avalible when i am with my laptop! I dont know how to get this current library as mine on my ipod, help!

My ipod will not sync with my laptop. I have had previous Ipods in the past, but since then I have grown out of most of my music. Also about a year and a half ago I got a new laptop. I used the same Itunes name, but now on my new Ipod it has all of my old music and it refuses to download any of my new music. When I am using home sharing though, it says that I can turn on my "Library" but that my "music" is what is perminately on the computer. This only works though if I am near my laptop. When I try to transfer my library onto my ipod it wont let me. My music on my ipod is completely different than my normal itunes library on my computer and I have no idea how to transfer it. When I plug it in, it wont sync at all, or show that there is any device even plugged in. I am frustrated and tired of not having any  of my music, so someone please help!!!

You can only sync to one computer/iTunes library. To make this your syncing computer:

  • Ipod Wont Sync My Music in itunes

Ok big problem. I have all my music saved onto a 120Gig Western digital Portable Hard drive. i have an 80gig ipod. ive had it for about 5-6 months. i am now having a problem where it wont sync. what happends is that all of my music is in the itunes library. when i try to sync my ipod, none of the music syncs and all of the locations of the original file become lost. when i go into my hard drive and look, all of the files are missing. but when i either unplug the hard drive or restart my comp all of my music is there again. if i try again it does the same thing over and over. any suggestions? t would be appreciated. thanks.

In answer to your last question, no - your iPod is not a goner, but you need to work out what has happened first so that it doesn't happen again. I'm guessing that if you look at "Other" on your iPod you may find it's quite large.
Look on your iPod, go to the Settings menu and choose the About option; on that first display the graphic should show lots of blue (audio), some darker blue (video), some yellow/orange (photos if you have any) and a small amount of orange/red (other). That's the sequence, don't worry if the colours are slightly off or not there. If the last one - other is larger than the audio then that's where your storage has gone!
I still think that your PC has allocated a different letter to the external hard drive compared to when you previously added the music. Then, when the iPod cannot find the music on your PC when synced, it moves the songs to "other". Have you checked to make sure there are no "rogue" drive letters still allocated and have you ruled out the possibility of connecting the hard drive in another sequence when connecting up other USB devices? (As I mentioned in my last post.) Once you have done that, then look in iTunes.
If I understand you correctly, only some of the songs (in iTunes) have an exclamation mark against them, while some do not, is that correct? If so, it means that iTunes cannot find the location of ones with exclamation marks. So look at some of the songs that do not have an exclamation mark and try the *Get info/Where* to find out where iTunes thinks they are. Then check to see if the same drive letter is allocated to the hard drive when you connect it. They should be the same letter, are they?
If not, that's been the problem. If they are the same, try "asking" iTunes to see if it can now find the location of one of the missing tracks. (It's possible of course, that some newer added songs were added after the drive letter changed and this will be a problem, but let's hope not!)
So, what's the situation now? If you think the problem is a changed drive letter, make sure that the correct drive letter is now allocated and then ask iTunes to find the missing songs. (Unfortunately, this might be on a song-by-song basis!)
Once you find the missing songs, (or if you don't you will just have to import them again into iTunes.) and your iTunes is now complete again, it's time to sort out the iPod.
Connect up the iPod and on the iTunes Summary screen, use the Restore function. This will restore your iPod to its factory settings and remove everything from it, thus freeing up the missing storage space. then a fresh Sync will add everything back onto the iPod again. As you can appreciate, all this will take a bit of time, which is why you need to understand what happened so you don't have to go through this again.
Let us know how you get on.
    Good luck,

It's very frustrating and Im hoping someone can help me soon,
    Kelly

My ipod was working fine over a week ago and now it wont work!
Let's start with the basic: What changed between the last time it worked and nopw? Did you update your iTunes to a newer version? Plug in any new USB devices? Change the port to which you connect your iPod? Add any new devices that changed drive letters? Apply any patches? Drop or expose the iPod to temperature extremes?
If we know what changed, we can start to figure out how that change caused this problem.
P.S.: If your answer to "what changed" is what I think it is (i.e., you updated iTunes), then reading this summary post of mine may give you a clue as to the problem.
