IPod Wont Sync - Sync starts but stops

Searched for this topic, found lots of similar but nothing exactly the same.
1. Open iTunes (10.2.1.1)
2. Connect iPod (OS 4.1 8B117)
3. iPod touch shows up in the list of devices
4. Get a message, that new iPod software is available, I click Cancel
5. Syncing "iPod touch" Starting sync message appears
6. Syncing "iPod touch" (Step 1 of 1) message appears. Syncing screen on iPod appears with slide to cancel.
7. iPod returns to list of apps and iTunes stops the sync without any messages
8. Click Sync again and same thing happens again
Some background...
Successfully synced iPod before, but have reformatted my PC since that sync. Reinstalled iTunes and authorized my PC with the same iTunes account.
Have tried this sync on both my Dell Win7 (64-bit) and on a Desktop WinXP (32-bit) with the exact same results.

- It appears that you have tunes set up to manually manage music. Since you reformatted the computer sees the iPod as a different/new iPod. What you need to do is to transfer you iTunes purchases to the computer by:
http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1848
- You can also redownload at no addition cost apps. See:
http://support.apple.com/kb/HT2519
- You can move non-iTunes purchases to youyrcomputer by:
http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=2713942&tstart=15
- After you move stuff to your "new" computer, you need to restore you iPod via iTunes and sync it to the "new" PC.

I reset my computer and ipod and it says that my ipod is syncing music but when I look on my ipod touch there is no music there. How can i fix it? I have backed up and restored my ipod touch 4th gen several times.

This came from another thread, but worked for me.  Problem is with newest iTunes 4.62.  Unistall iTunes, as well as its helper programs (Apple Application Support, Apple Mobile Device Support, and Apple Software Update).  Reboot, and reinstall iTunes.  It will reinstall all the other ones and you should be able to connect your nano.  Good luck.

  • My Ipod wont sync with my new library and I dont know why not. It will show that it is connected through home sharing, but it is only avalible when i am with my laptop! I dont know how to get this current library as mine on my ipod, help!

My ipod will not sync with my laptop. I have had previous Ipods in the past, but since then I have grown out of most of my music. Also about a year and a half ago I got a new laptop. I used the same Itunes name, but now on my new Ipod it has all of my old music and it refuses to download any of my new music. When I am using home sharing though, it says that I can turn on my "Library" but that my "music" is what is perminately on the computer. This only works though if I am near my laptop. When I try to transfer my library onto my ipod it wont let me. My music on my ipod is completely different than my normal itunes library on my computer and I have no idea how to transfer it. When I plug it in, it wont sync at all, or show that there is any device even plugged in. I am frustrated and tired of not having any  of my music, so someone please help!!!

You can only sync to one computer/iTunes library. To make this your syncing computer:

  • My ipod wont sync any of the tv shows I bought from my ipod, but I can sync the ones that I bought from my computer. I didnt click manually manage tv shows and I made sure to click all of them to sync. I didnt get them illegally btw. Thanks !

    thanks for reading this people.
I have a third generation 32 GB ipod touch. I have the second newest version of itunes, and use a Windows 7. I bought 28 tv shows from my ipod (NOT computer) (some of them were the free kinds, if that has anything to do with anything). But, when I tried to sync them onto my cmoputer, then sync them BACK onto my ipod. it wont...
I DID NOT check the manually manage videos thing, and i DID click all of them to sync. It is sorta bugging me because i really want to see my glee..:D
but the weird things is, my songs and apps that i bought from my ipod WILL sync back. But it is just my tv shows... x(
    PLEASE help!!!!!!!!!!
if there is anything else you need to know to help me, please tell!
    thanks,
    Sarah

Installing iTunes does not cause content to magically appear on the computer.
Your media is only where you put it.
iOS devices are not backup devices.
Copy the media from the old computer to the new computer.

  • My iPod wont sync to my iTunes.

It'll say it's syncing but then it'll stop and say "Error -1303" or something along those lines and I've tried restoring it and resetting it numerous times but it still doesn't work. I've alsop tried manually adding songs but it still will only let me go so far before saying some sort of error with my iPod. My iPod started acting weird a while ago so I did the select button and menu button reset and then it deleted everything off of it and since then I've restored it a lot of times and stuff but it still wont sync. It's an iPod classic 80gb. My iTunes is also up to date and the software on the iPod is as well.

You can follow this guide to transfer the music and video from iPod classic back to computer, and then manually add the files into your iTunes to combine with the new iTunes library, and then re-sync your iPod. Hope it helps. Feel free to email me if you need further help.

  • My ipod wont sync all my music/files, comes up with an error now

    HI there!
My ipod was working fine over a week ago and now it wont work!

I have restored it many times, uninstalled and installed itunes a few times too, and nothing
Also when i plug my ipod in it comes up on my laptop screen that i should scan and fix my ipod as files on there that arent right?!
It's very frustrating and Im hoping someone can help me soon,
    Kelly

My ipod was working fine over a week ago and now it wont work!
Let's start with the basic: What changed between the last time it worked and nopw? Did you update your iTunes to a newer version? Plug in any new USB devices? Change the port to which you connect your iPod? Add any new devices that changed drive letters? Apply any patches? Drop or expose the iPod to temperature extremes?
If we know what changed, we can start to figure out how that change caused this problem.
P.S.: If your answer to "what changed" is what I think it is (i.e., you updated iTunes), then reading this summary post of mine may give you a clue as to the problem.

  • Ipod wont sync

so recently i got my computer reformatted i have 2 hard drives in it one with all my stuff on it and the other is new so i tried to sync my ipod after i reformatted and now it wont sync the songs and video comes up with 2 error messages itunes could not copy(song name) to the ipod (ipod name) because file could not be read or written and the other one say attempting to copy to the Disk (Ipod name) the disk could be read from or written this is new cause before i got it reformatted it would load them up even with the 2 hard drives any one know the problem cause it even affects the songs when i play them on itunes it pauses for a bit the plays it again

Well... this is where it gets weird. She's had an eMachines computer for a few years... gives her trouble with the DVD and CD drives. Still works ok, otherwise. Then I got her the iPod and it works ok for a month or so, until the computer crashes every time she connects the iPod to any of the USB ports. Everything else still works fine in the USB ports but the iPod. Every so often between crashes she can get the iPod to update. Then the computer stops working together.
So she junked the computer and bought a brand new HP (tried to get her to buy a Mac, but she doesn't listen to me.) and the whole computer works fine. She plugs in the iPod and nothing happens. No error messages. Nothing. It's like nothing is plugged in. Won't even charge the battery if it's connected to the computer. I think it's possible that the iPod itself might actually display the "Do not disconnect." but otherwise... there's nothing.
Explain to me the reset and restore... she's done something, but I think it's just the regular reset (laying the iPod flat and pushing different parts of the click wheel.)
(And I don't know her update settings off hand... it should be auto update... but I'm just guessing.)

  • Ipod wont sync with Itunes

    Hello!
Ive plugged my Ipod into my laptop with Itunes open and it normally syncs automatically, when i came to do it today it wont sync and when i try to do it from the file menu the sync option is greyed out. Itunes wont even show my Ipod on the left hand side as it normally does. Help please?
    Thanks

Sumiko, I'd suggest you start a new topic with your issue (use the "Post a new topic" link at the top of each main topic page). It's generally better to ask a question as a new topic rather than as a reply in someone else's thread. It's more courteous to the original poster, and is more likely to get your question the attention it deserves.
    Regards.

  • How come my ipod wont sync new songs?

my ipod touch wont sync new songs but they appare on itunes when its connected but when i disconect it there not there can some one help me?

Was the iPod previous synced to another iTunes library/computer?
Have you successfully synced from this iTunes library/computer before?
Do the songs play in iTunes?
Do you have the right boxes checked to sync?

Do you have any Restrictions (Settings>General>Restrictions) set that would prevent syncing those songs?

  • Ipod Wont Sync My Music in itunes

Ok big problem. I have all my music saved onto a 120Gig Western digital Portable Hard drive. i have an 80gig ipod. ive had it for about 5-6 months. i am now having a problem where it wont sync. what happends is that all of my music is in the itunes library. when i try to sync my ipod, none of the music syncs and all of the locations of the original file become lost. when i go into my hard drive and look, all of the files are missing. but when i either unplug the hard drive or restart my comp all of my music is there again. if i try again it does the same thing over and over. any suggestions? t would be appreciated. thanks.

In answer to your last question, no - your iPod is not a goner, but you need to work out what has happened first so that it doesn't happen again. I'm guessing that if you look at "Other" on your iPod you may find it's quite large.
Look on your iPod, go to the Settings menu and choose the About option; on that first display the graphic should show lots of blue (audio), some darker blue (video), some yellow/orange (photos if you have any) and a small amount of orange/red (other). That's the sequence, don't worry if the colours are slightly off or not there. If the last one - other is larger than the audio then that's where your storage has gone!
I still think that your PC has allocated a different letter to the external hard drive compared to when you previously added the music. Then, when the iPod cannot find the music on your PC when synced, it moves the songs to "other". Have you checked to make sure there are no "rogue" drive letters still allocated and have you ruled out the possibility of connecting the hard drive in another sequence when connecting up other USB devices? (As I mentioned in my last post.) Once you have done that, then look in iTunes.
If I understand you correctly, only some of the songs (in iTunes) have an exclamation mark against them, while some do not, is that correct? If so, it means that iTunes cannot find the location of ones with exclamation marks. So look at some of the songs that do not have an exclamation mark and try the *Get info/Where* to find out where iTunes thinks they are. Then check to see if the same drive letter is allocated to the hard drive when you connect it. They should be the same letter, are they?
If not, that's been the problem. If they are the same, try "asking" iTunes to see if it can now find the location of one of the missing tracks. (It's possible of course, that some newer added songs were added after the drive letter changed and this will be a problem, but let's hope not!)
So, what's the situation now? If you think the problem is a changed drive letter, make sure that the correct drive letter is now allocated and then ask iTunes to find the missing songs. (Unfortunately, this might be on a song-by-song basis!)
Once you find the missing songs, (or if you don't you will just have to import them again into iTunes.) and your iTunes is now complete again, it's time to sort out the iPod.
Connect up the iPod and on the iTunes Summary screen, use the Restore function. This will restore your iPod to its factory settings and remove everything from it, thus freeing up the missing storage space. then a fresh Sync will add everything back onto the iPod again. As you can appreciate, all this will take a bit of time, which is why you need to understand what happened so you don't have to go through this again.
Let us know how you get on.
    Good luck,

  • Wifi sync starts then stops

iTunes doesn't see my iPhone 5s as being on the same network except for about 10s when iTunes first starts up. It sees it, tries to sync, then it stops (sometimes iTunes gets locked up) and then the iPhone disappears from next to the library and then it's gone. I've worked with with Norton and both Bonjour and all the Apple devices seem ok in the firewall... I am not sure what to try.

Never mind about the message display, it looks fine now.  Perhaps just a temporary thing.  (Aside: Is anyone else bothered that after signing in Apple doesn't redirect back to the page from which you signed in?)
After quite some troubleshooting I found if I uninstalled the antivirus (Symantec.cloud, which is basically Norton Internet Security on non-Servers) and turned off Windows Firewall, it still won't connect/sync.  I get the same 10 seconds or so of starting, then it disconnects/disappears from iTunes.  At that point I am not able to ping the phone.
Further if I ping my phone, my wife's 5s, or our iPad 2 (iOS 7) I usually get "Destination host unreachable" or "Request timed out" until I do something on my phone.  Pinging to an old 3GS works every time.  So it seems like iOS 7 is either turning off networking when it thinks it is not being used, or perhaps throwing up a firewall of its own until the networking is in use.  That may or may not be relevant but in the end if the Symantec software is not installed that's not the problem...the problem would seem to be with iTunes/iOS 7/iPhone 5s.

  • Ipod wont sync videos

my 30 gig video wont sync any of my videos.
when i try to apply the changes, itunes says that my ipod is done syncing, so i unplug it and check to see if my videos are there, and they never are...
    any suggestions?

I am having a similar issue. But mine is more specific. All my videos are syncing except for a certain group. I recently purchased Lost: Season 3 on iTunes. Every time a new episode is released, I download it into my library. Itunes shows that I have all of the episodes currently released. However, when I sync my iPod, only the most recent episode shows up on the iPod. Why can't I sync all of the episodes in my library to my iPod?
