My ipod ran out of battery about two weeks ago. When I tried to charge it again with my wall charger, the ipod did not recognize that it was charging. No light came on or screen changed to show that it was charging. The back of the ipod felt warm but that was about it. I then tried a different cord to charge it with my computer. The same thing happened (the screen stayed blank and looked turned off) and when I did a reset on the Ipod my itunes said it could not recognize the ipod. PLEASE HELP.
It is a second gen. red ipod nano. It hasn't had water damage or been dropped. I have no idea what could have happened. Thanks

What have you tried so far in terms of troubleshooting?  After leaving the Nano to sit and charge for at least 30 minutes, try resetting it by pressing and holding both the Select/Center and Menu buttons together long enough for the Apple logo to appear. You'll want to make sure the Hold Switch is not in the On position as well.

    Error 1604
This error is often related to USB timing. Try changing USB ports, using a different dock connector to USB cable, and other available USB troubleshooting steps (troubleshooting USB connections. If you are using a dock, bypass it and connect directly to the white Apple USB dock connector cable. If the issue persists on a known-good computer, the device may need service.
If the issue is not resolved by USB isolation troubleshooting, and another computer is not available, try these steps to resolve the issue:
Connect the device to iTunes, confirm that the device is in Recovery Mode. If it's not in Recovery Mode, put it into Recovery Mode.
Restore and wait for the error.
    When prompted, click OK.
Close and reopen iTunes while the device remains connected.
The device should now be recognized in Recovery Mode again.
    Try to restore again.

  • Ipod will not turn on and is not recognized by windows to restore it

I have a 30g video ipod that worked fine for about a week. Today i tried to turn it on and i got the sad face with the website for apple support. I tried the 5 R's but nothing worked. I can't get the ipod to go into disk mode and i can't restore it because itunes doesn't recognize it. It also is not showing up in my computer. When I plug it into my usb port it alternately shows a battery that isn't flashing or anything and the sad face with the website address. I don't understand why it suddenly stopped working for no reason. Does anybody have any suggestions or have been experiencing the same problem with their video ipod?

  • Ipod does not turn on and is not recognized in Itunes and computer

For some reason, one day, my ipod nano 4th generation just stopped working. On the device manager, I can see that the apple mobile USB driver is installed but it is not listed as an external hard drive on my computer. When I plug my ipod in, I have to push the top and the middle button together until it makes the sound when the computer recognizes a new USB. Then, it keeps saying 'waiting for ipod' and I eventually get a 1601 error message. I've tried everything, and it doesn't work at all. do you guys know how to fix this? This is just making me angry and furious.

I have the same problem as from this morning my ipod nano just won't turn on and when I plug into computer its recognising an external hard drive but NOT syncing with itunes....Its just gone completely dead!!! Can anyone help?

  • Ipod wont turn on and computer doesn't recognize it

I've had my ipod for two years and never had any problems until four days ago when I unplugged it from my computer after it had finished charging and syncing. I went to plug it into my speakers but noting happened when i hit play. I unplugged the ipod from the speakers to check the ipod but it wouldn't turn on. After trying holding down the power button and the home and power button to no avail, i plugged it back into my computer. The computer didnt recognize it and it didnt show up in my itunes and the ipod started getting really hot in the bottom left corner. I unplugged it to let it cool down, but four days later it still wont turn on and my computer (imac) isnt recognizing it. As if this wasnt bad enough, I borrowed my brothers old chromatic, and used that for a day but it too died when i tried plugging it into the same speakers. And it too isnt being recognized by my computer. I now have two dead ipods and im thinking its because of these killer speakers...are they done for good or can they be saved?
    BTW- neither were jailbroken

After charging for at least an hour I would try to place the iPod in recovery mode and then restoring it via iTunes.  For recovery mode see:
iPhone and iPod touch: Unable to update or restore
If still not recognized, try placing in DFU mode and restoring.

Last is to make an appointment a the Genius Bar of an Apple store.  I would also not use the speakers until the problem is resolved

  • My ipod wont turn on and ive alredy tried everthing

my ipod 5 wont turn on and ive tried doing everything

If you're really tried "everything," then throw it away!  Otherwise...
Please tell me that it has NEVER been jailbroke.  If it has not been jailbroke, here are some standard repair procedures:
First, try a system reset.  It cures many ills and it's quick, easy and harmless...
Hold down the on/off switch and the Home button simultaneously until you see the Apple logo.  Ignore the "Slide to power off" text if it appears.  You will not lose any apps, data, music, movies, settings, etc.
If the Reset doesn't work, try a Restore.  Note that it's nowhere near as quick as a Reset.  It could take well over an hour!  Connect via cable to the computer that you use for sync.  From iTunes, select the iPad/iPod and then select the Summary tab.  Follow the on-screen directions for Restore and be sure to say "yes" to the backup.  You will be warned that all data (apps, music, movies, etc.) will be erased but, as the Restore finishes, you will be asked if you wish the contents of the backup to be copied to the iPad/iPod.  Again, say "yes."
At the end of the basic Restore, you will be asked if you wish to sync the iPad/iPod.  As before, say "yes."  Note that that sync selection will disappear and the Restore will end if you do not respond within a reasonable time.  If that happens, only the apps that are part of the IOS will appear on your device.  Corrective action is simple -  choose manual "Sync" from the bottom right of iTunes.
If you're unable to do the Restore (or it doesn't help), go into Recovery Mode per the instructions here.  You WILL lose all of your data (game scores, etc,) but, for the most part, you can redownload apps and music without being charged again.  Also, read this.

  • My iPod Touch 4G cannot be turned on and is not recognized.

Okay, so, this is a long story, but I registered on this forum just to share it with someone, see if anyone had a similar problem.
A month or two ago, the home button on my iPod Touch 4G broke. Okay. So I started using that assistive touch feature. The one with the home button on the screen. Well, that's the background of this story. Let's get into the real meat.
This morning, there I am, waiting to get into class, watching a documentary on my iPod Touch. I grab my two-year old charging cable, plug it up on the PC I always use in class and move it around- it's so old, it needs to be at that right spot to charge up. Well, it starts charging, but once I unplug it and plug it again... something weird happens. With the PC. It gives me a "USB Device not recognized" error.
I thought the cable had finally gone pfft. Not a problem, I had a newer, better one back home. So I go back to watching my documentary- the device is working fine- and when it comes time to class, I press the lock button and put it back on my backpack. Fast forward five-six hours. Lunch time. I pull out my iPod Touch, press the lock button and... nothing.
Black screen. Nothing happens. No sound, no video. Okay, weird. I press the lock button again and again, and still, nothing happens. Maybe I need to turn it on? I hold onto the lock button, but it doesn't turn on or off. Maybe it needs to charge? I borrow a friend's cable, plug it up to a wall charger- the one from Apple- and... nothing happens. I take that cable, plug it up to a PC, and nothing happens. Except for the "USB Device not Recognized" error.
So that's where I am. I can't go to DFU mode cause my home button's borked up. Charging, pressing the lock button, reinstalling iTunes, nothing works. It just sits there. But I know it's not bricked up, because when I plug it up, it gives me that "USB Device not recognized" error.
I'm probably taking it to technical assistance tomorrow, but I'd at least like to hear if anyone had the same problem. All my stuff's there: my Things app with my homework stuff, my TV Show Tracker app, and while I did back app data to the iCloud, I'm not sure I can just put that data on my brother's iPod Touch. Help?

First try the following since it appears y have a computer problem:
iOS: Device not recognized in iTunes for Windows
    I would start with
Removing and reinstalling iTunes, QuickTime, and other software components for Windows Vista or Windows 7
    or
Removing and Reinstalling iTunes, QuickTime, and other software components for Windows XP
Run this to help if it identifies the cause

Have you tried on another computer to help determine if you have a computer or iPod problem?

  • My ipod nano 7th gen does not turn on and is not recognized by my pc

Don't know why my ipod does not turn on anymore. I only had it for 2 weeks. It also is not recognized on my pc or itunes when I plug it in with my USB.

How long have you left the iPod to charge?  It can take up to 30 minutes for the iPod to power on or show any signs of life.  How long did you press and hold the Select (Center) and Menu buttons to reset the iPod?
It might not to also make use of another USB sync cable if you have one laying around to rule out the possibility of a faulty/damaged cable.

Last week my 5th generation ipod touch dropped face down onto the ground.  When picked up the screen was black and did not turn back on.  I tried to connect it to the laptop but it did not recognize the ipod.  Also when it is plugged into the laptop the area by the camera gets warm like it is charging.  But still has a black screen.  I've tried to reset and count to 10, but nothing happends.  Is there anything that can be done to fix this?  Or is it completely dead?  Somebody, anybody please help.
