Ipod wont update due to deleted playlist

i have accidently deleted a playlist on my ipod, and when i went to update my ipod all of the songs were taken off it. now when i try to update my ipod the following message appears:
Songs on the ipod "Tom" cannot be updated because all of the playlists selected for updating no longer exist.
i have tried looking for the playlist how ever i cannot find it.please help i have been trying to fix this for ages!!!

hiya!
okay, while the ipod is plugged in and showing up in the sourcelist, go "edit > preferences" and click on the "ipod" tab.
you currently have "Automatically update selected playlists only" selected in there. compare the playlists that show up in the window below that option with the playlists that currently exist in your sourcelist. deselect any that no longer exist. click OK.
for some more info on using that updating/syncing option (and the others), see:

  • Ipod wont update, restore, WORK!!??

hi everyone, my ipod's been playing up, its the second time this has happened, the last time i managed to sort out the problem but it was an accident! It started off by suddenly deleting all the songs in my ipod, they're still in my library but wont update onto my ipod, saying there is not enough memory. I have tried resetting, and then update/restoring but I keep getting a range of different error messages from "Internal error" to "formatting failure" i have searched through all the discussions on here but none have helped!! the ipod updater i downloaded seems to disappear on my computer leaving one from jan06, which is obviously out of date. PLEASE HELP!!!!
    thanks xxx

    You've seen this?
    Internal manager error.
If after trying all else, you could try a format of the iPod in Windows. A full format does a check and remap of bad sectors on the iPod hard drive, and you would need to restore the iPod as normal (using the iPod updater) afterward. This can also work when the iPod is recognized by the computer, but not by the updater.
First, put the iPod into forced disk mode.
See: How to put the iPod into disk mode.
On your PC, go "my computer" and right click on the iPod, then choose "format". Ensure the settings are at "default" and that "quick format" is not checked. Now select "format". It will take a while, but when that's finished, restore the iPod using the updater.
If you need to, reset the iPod to exit disk mode.

  • Ipod wont update songs from itunes after new update

I downloaded the new itunes update 5.0 and now i cant update my ipod. it keeps telling me that there is not enough room on it. so i unchecked about 1000 songs and it keeps on saying the same thing. it also took about 3000 songs off my ipod. the only way it will update is if i let itunes update it with a choice of songs they pick. please help.

    Hello All,
I think I came up with a work around by accident and didn't realize it until I read this post.
Did all the same stuff most have done, reset to factory, reapplied the updates, etc, still not enough free space, even though there was plenty before.
Sooo, I went into iPod options, changed from "Automatically update all songs and playlists" to "Automatically update selected playlists only". I did this assuming that the amount of space used on my iPod would be cut in half, at least. So I sync'd and when it was done, my iPod was back to the way it originally was, having about 800MB free on a 30GB G3 iPod. Hmmm... so I looked at the pref's again and realized that the "Only update checked songs" was still checked. I have been using this setting for at least the past two years after my audio collection began to exceed my 30GB iPod's capacity. So in the end, it ended up syncing just my playlists PLUS anything that was checked which brought me back to where I started before I made the jump from 4.9 to 6.0.1. The only difference was the switching the setting "Automatically update all songs and playlists" to "Automatically update selected playlists only". Very odd. I suspect a lot of users got in trouble on this one.
Please let me know if this fixes the problem for anyone else.
    Kindly,
    James

  • Ipod wont Update in Itunes. HELP!!!!!!

Heya guys. After installing Itune 6.0, I seem to be having problems with my Itunes recognizing my Ipod. Its plugged in and charging on a USB 2.0 cable, but when I use Itunes, I cant seem to have Itunes even recognize that my Ipod is plugged in and charging. It wont update it for me. Everything else seems to work fine, I can download podcasts just fine and go into the music store.
Could it be that I need a USB cable? Before I would get a message saying something like the cable wasnt fast enough, but I didnt have trouble with it then.
This is my computer that Im trying to get my Ipod to update on Itunes. I have tried to reinstall Itunes, but have trouble there.
When I go into Itunes, I press the Edit Tab, then preference, then Ipod tab. It says then it isnt connected. But if it isnt connected, then how come it shows on my Ipod that it is charging?
From what I've been reading, Itunes 6.0 is causing alot of grief. Im sorry if this is long-winded but I hope that I gave some details that would help. Thank you if you can be of anyhelp.

  • Neither of my iPods are updating one of my playlists

The songs from the playlists are all copied over, but my one Smart Playlist WILL NOT transfer over. The playlist is there on one of my iPod's but there is no music in the playlist. The other 5th Gen iPod doesn't even have the playlist listed.
I've tried resetting the 3rd Generation iPod, but it hasn't cured the situation. I've tried changing the songs in the Smart Playlist and it still won't update. All my other playlists, including one other Smart Playlist transfer over no problem.
All my playlists include both protected and unprotected songs...its a real mystery. It only started after upgrading to iTunes 7.0. I have all the necessary software updates in place too. I upgraded to 7.01 iTunes and I still have the same problem. I have lots of room on both iPods too. This is super ******* me off and I'd really like help!! ANYONE!!!!

as much as i'd love to help, i have the same problem, but mine is only every so often, my ipod freezes when i plug it into my laptop, and then i have to reset it manually and it becomes corrupt, i'm about ready to go buy a zune, i got it for christmas last year, and it hasnt worked right since day one, and i hate to get a zune because i love my ipod, but try to reinstall the apple drivers from your device manager, just uninstall any usb driver that has to do with your ipod, and then reconnect your ipod and it should reinstall them automatically

  • My ipod is formated for windows xp. new laptop is windows 8. ipod wont update on new laptop, what do i do now?

my new laptop is windows 8. iPod is formatted for windows xp. new laptop knows iPod is there but wont update. how do I fix this?

    hey there oddball35,
It sounds like you are trying to update your iPod with your new computer. Without knowing the specific symptoms, I recommend you start with choosing the iPod model you have from the following website:
    iPod Troubleshooting Assistants
    https://www.apple.com/support/ipod/five_rs/
If that does not resolve the issue, are you getting any error messages, or what specifically is preventing the restore from happening?
Thank you for using Apple Support Communities.
    All the best,
    Sterling

  • IPod iTunes is up to date but my iPod wont update all songs???

The fact that Apple wants me to pay $50 for one incident...enough said! Sorry, I'm better now. So I have a legacy issue. iTunes version and iPod software versions are up to date but when I look at "My iPod" through iTunes it does not show all songs synced to my iPod?? Essentially my iPod is locked and grayed out and wont update new songs I have bought from iTunes. There is even a little lock at the bottom of the iTunes page "within" my iPod.... I cannot seem to unlock it and it is not because the iPod is physically on hold. Huge bummer - hugely annoying and Apple help desk wants $50 to tell me whats wrong with their product...

I've just started having a very similar issue. My iPod (20 GB dock connector, touch wheel with the four buttons above etc.) crashed for about the third time, wiped out all the songs on it and crashed iTunes each time I connected it to my Mac. In the past I have just loaded the iPod Updater again to re-install the software and start from scratch so I did this again. However, this is the first time I have done that after upgrading to iTunes 6 and I used an old iPod updater that I had previously downloaded (2005-03-23).
Everything seemed normal except none of the music I have purchased from iTunes will copy across to the iPod, error message = "some of the songs...were not copied..because your iPod software is too old. Go to...to get the latest iPod software update." I downloaded 2005-10-12 but it doesn't seem to do anything. Can anyone help?
With the updater I have just run the .dmg which opens the volume and then I've run the .mpkg. Do I need to do anything else?!?!?

Set the iPod to sync manually, and then drag the songs you want transferred to it onto the iPod in the iTunes source list. If you get any error messages, post back with the text of those messages; following these instructions may be necessary.

  • My 4th generation ipod wont update without deleting all of my Media. I dont want to do that. What do I do?

I have a 4th generation 64 gb iPod Touch. I had a laptop that it was synced with but it crashed. Everytime I try to update it pops up a messege saying "Erase all media and update". I do not want to do that. It wont even let me put more music on it. Im not sure what to do..Im scared because its a 64gb iPod i love it to death. It is all I own. How can I put music on it without deleting all of my media. Or where can I store all the media to restore later?

I realize that, but I was just updating to the most recent software when I got an error message & now it's just showing I need to restore. Is there a way to back it up first or avoid the resetting to factory?

  • 1st Gen Ipod touch - 'updated' library by deleting all but newest

Hi all. A couple of days ago I probably hit the capacity on my 16gb 1stG touch, after downloading a couple of podcasts. It 'updated' my music and video library, deleting all but the newest items.
I'd like to know if my old stuff is still on there - I haven't synced it to a computer since my computer crashed, though we do have carbonite so not all is lost. Was just hoping I wouldn't have to go through all that - that the music and video would still be in there somewhere!
I have used the Touch Copy software before and have put this same question in to their support. Any help / advice would be appreciated! Thank you in advance!

I've had the same thing happen multiple times over the last year. It always follows downloading podcasts through iTunes (not through a podcast app).
I've only ever fixed it by re-syncing to iTunes. However, I'm away from my computer and no don't have access to any of my music or audiobooks.
I'd love to know how to fix it from the iPod only. I've just power cycled and reset (hold wake/home buttons til it reboots) with no impact.

        dont worry, be happy

    Also:
If you don't have access to a computer
If you are using Find My iPhone, you can use Remote Wipe to restore your device. If you have been using iCloud to back up, you may be able to restore the most recent backup to reset the passcode.
