Ipod wont update or restore... now what?

I was having problems with my ipod, so i tried to update it. The update failed, and i was told I had to restore it. The restore failed and now my ipod cannot be used with itunes. It tells me that i must restore it with itunes first, which keeps failing... It's just a circle of issues! what am I supposed to do with it?

it says it says the network server cannot be contacted and that i need to check the network settings. i click ok, and the message is itunes has detected a ipod in recovery mode; you need to restore it... which is just continuing

    hey there oddball35,
It sounds like you are trying to update your iPod with your new computer. Without knowing the specific symptoms, I recommend you start with choosing the iPod model you have from the following website:
    iPod Troubleshooting Assistants
    https://www.apple.com/support/ipod/five_rs/
If that does not resolve the issue, are you getting any error messages, or what specifically is preventing the restore from happening?
Thank you for using Apple Support Communities.

  • HT201210 IPOD WONT UPDATE OR RESTORE

I haven't been able to update my iPad 2 for the longest time now. I've tried to do it just through the device only for it to get stuck on calculating download time and then give me an error message. I've tried to go through my computer as well only to have it hang up on connecting to the ipad update network. I'm getting quite frustrated and got to the point where I just tried to reset and restore everything and that won't even work! Please help, I've run out of ideas...

    What happens when you try?

  • Ipod wont update or restore or load in itunes

Help - i have a 3rd generation 20gb ipod. It started going to a new song halfway through another song & i thought i'd let the battery run down. I've done that & i've come to my ipod & it's totally blank - there's no songs at all. When i try to connect it to itunes it just freezes. I've downloaded the new update but when i go to restore or update in one USB port it doesn't detect the ipod. In the other it says it's initializing but never does anything more. I've tried 2 different USB cables....no joy. I can't get it to detect it at all. Can anyone help me please? I can't find any related problems at all
    thanks suzy

See below for paste from help. You need to use the /f or (ideally) the /r parameter. You need to run it from a command prompt.
    Syntax
    chkdsk [volume:][[Path] FileName] [/f] [/v] [/r] [/x] [/c] [/l[:size]]
    Parameters
    volume:
Specifies the drive letter (followed by a colon), mount point, or volume name.
    [Path] FileName
Specifies the location and name of a file or set of files that you want chkdsk to check for fragmentation. You can use wildcard characters (that is, * and ?) to specify multiple files.
    /f
Fixes errors on the disk. The disk must be locked. If chkdsk cannot lock the drive, a message appears that asks you if you want to check the drive the next time you restart the computer.
    /v
Displays the name of each file in every directory as the disk is checked.
    /r
Locates bad sectors and recovers readable information. The disk must be locked.
    /x
Use with NTFS only. Forces the volume to dismount first, if necessary. All open handles to the drive are invalidated. /x also includes the functionality of /f.
    /i
Use with NTFS only. Performs a less vigorous check of index entries, reducing the amount of time needed to run chkdsk.
    /c
Use with NTFS only. Skips the checking of cycles within the folder structure, reducing the amount of time needed to run chkdsk.
    /l[:size]
Use with NTFS only. Changes the log file size to the size you type. If you omit the size parameter, /l displays the current size.
Displays help at the command prompt.

  • I needed to reset my iPod touch because my pass code was changed and I didn't know what it was, but now iTunes wont let me restore it what do I do?

Please help me!! I needed to reset my iPod touch because my pass code was changed and I didn't know what it was, but now iTunes wont let me restore it what do I do?

You'll need to connect it to the iTunes library you normally sync it with and restore it.  If iTunes asks you for this passcode before it will let you proceed, connect the iPod to iTunes in recovery mode instead using the instructions in this Apple support document.

  • HT201210 ipod software update for restore takes over 5 hours

My daughter forgot her password and I have been trying to restore for 24 hours now. The process has been taking hours (5 or 6), but then doesn't work to restore the device. I have disabled antvirus and followed detailed instructions found here and elsewhere. The ipod is brand new, updated, and itunes is up to date as well. However, the ipod softward update for restore is taking FOREVER.
Are there any other tips or will I need to take this to the Apple store?

The same thing is happening to me, I already made a lot of backups, I restarted the computer and the iPod and it's still using more then 30 gbs from my memory, and I have free memory, it's not full. But I'm relieved I'm not the only one.

  • IPod Classic wont update OR restore

Well, I've had my iPod Classic (80 gb) for about a year now. For a few months it's been trying to update but I haven't been able to because it keeps having an error while downloading it. So I just haven't been updating it since It wont let me. The other day my iPod kept skipping songs and doing crazy stuff so I plugged it in and it said the iPod was corrupt and I needed to restore it. So I tried that and it said update and restore. I keep trying to update it but it still won't update, therefor it wont restore. And thats the only option I have. Any suggestions or help?

  • Ipod wont update, restore, WORK!!??

hi everyone, my ipod's been playing up, its the second time this has happened, the last time i managed to sort out the problem but it was an accident! It started off by suddenly deleting all the songs in my ipod, they're still in my library but wont update onto my ipod, saying there is not enough memory. I have tried resetting, and then update/restoring but I keep getting a range of different error messages from "Internal error" to "formatting failure" i have searched through all the discussions on here but none have helped!! the ipod updater i downloaded seems to disappear on my computer leaving one from jan06, which is obviously out of date. PLEASE HELP!!!!
    thanks xxx

    You've seen this?
    Internal manager error.
If after trying all else, you could try a format of the iPod in Windows. A full format does a check and remap of bad sectors on the iPod hard drive, and you would need to restore the iPod as normal (using the iPod updater) afterward. This can also work when the iPod is recognized by the computer, but not by the updater.
First, put the iPod into forced disk mode.
See: How to put the iPod into disk mode.
On your PC, go "my computer" and right click on the iPod, then choose "format". Ensure the settings are at "default" and that "quick format" is not checked. Now select "format". It will take a while, but when that's finished, restore the iPod using the updater.
If you need to, reset the iPod to exit disk mode.

  • I downloaded itunes 10.5 and now my ipod wont sync up with it, whats wrong?

i downloaded itunes 10.5 and ever since then my ipod wont get recognised by itunes, how do i fix this?

This tutorial for downgrading says you have to do this when that notice appears after you've downgraded:
iTunes 10.5 upgrades the iTunes library file and won’t let you downgrade, so you will need the prior version library file. Here’s how to go about that
    5) You will need to rename iTunes Library.itl to iTunes Library.bak
    6) Go into the “Previous iTunes Libraries” folder where you will find several files with dates in their names. The most recent one will have the .itl extension, but the others don’t. Copy that to the parent folder ~/Music/iTunes/ and rename it iTunes Library.itl
    7) Congrats. You’re done.

  • Ipod wont update from itunes

my ipod was not updating with new songs i had downloaded. it would just say ipod updated and nothing happened. so i wiped it clean using the restore function to start from scratch and i am getting the same situation. it won't update any songs now and just says ipod updated. not sure what to do. anyone have any advice?

    Hello,
Go to "Edit> preferences> iPod" and set your option for "manual".
Now, go to your iTunes library, and select what songs you want to put on your iPod, then drag-and-drop them into the name of your iPod in the left source area in iTunes.
You may want to simply manually manage your music like this, dragging the songs from the library, and simply dropping them to your iPod. This might avoid the kind of issues you were having.

  • IPod iTunes is up to date but my iPod wont update all songs???

The fact that Apple wants me to pay $50 for one incident...enough said! Sorry, I'm better now. So I have a legacy issue. iTunes version and iPod software versions are up to date but when I look at "My iPod" through iTunes it does not show all songs synced to my iPod?? Essentially my iPod is locked and grayed out and wont update new songs I have bought from iTunes. There is even a little lock at the bottom of the iTunes page "within" my iPod.... I cannot seem to unlock it and it is not because the iPod is physically on hold. Huge bummer - hugely annoying and Apple help desk wants $50 to tell me whats wrong with their product...

I've just started having a very similar issue. My iPod (20 GB dock connector, touch wheel with the four buttons above etc.) crashed for about the third time, wiped out all the songs on it and crashed iTunes each time I connected it to my Mac. In the past I have just loaded the iPod Updater again to re-install the software and start from scratch so I did this again. However, this is the first time I have done that after upgrading to iTunes 6 and I used an old iPod updater that I had previously downloaded (2005-03-23).
Everything seemed normal except none of the music I have purchased from iTunes will copy across to the iPod, error message = "some of the songs...were not copied..because your iPod software is too old. Go to...to get the latest iPod software update." I downloaded 2005-10-12 but it doesn't seem to do anything. Can anyone help?
With the updater I have just run the .dmg which opens the volume and then I've run the .mpkg. Do I need to do anything else?!?!?
