Ipod wont work in wall outlet?

I have a Ipod 4 gen and it has stopped working plugged into the wall but works in the computer. I have tried the cords to see if they work and they work with others. What do I do?

Hi Carlover22, Have you inspected the port for foreign debris; lint, dirt, corrosion? If you find anything there that shouldn't be, try blowing it out or use an artist paint brush, like the kind you would find in a child's water color paint set, to carefully remove the object which may be interrupting connection. Some have used a toothpick to remove debris, BUT be careful!! you run the risk of damaging or breaking the contact pins in the port if not careful. If not the problem try a Reset, press and hold the power and home buttons together about 15 seconds until the Apple logo appears, then release both buttons, if that does not work, go into Settings>General>Reset>Reset All Settings. If still not working try a Restore from backup or Restore to new. Just remember to make backup copies of all you stuff, pictures, music, contact lists, etc. before Restoring or that info may be permanently erased. If still not working Contact Apple Genius Bar and have your iPod evaluated.

I had to change my hard drive, now i'v tried to reinstall itunes it says i have to restore my iopd touch to factory settings and will loose my files. I have a few films on there and they show up on my purchases. If i restore, will i be able to get my films back ? as at the moment my ipod wont work now untill i restore anyway.

Syncing to a new iTunes library or computer will erase your ipod. Only if you back up your device manually before syncing, you can restore from that backup again. A manual backup does not include the sync process.
    Here's how to:
Disable autosync in iTunes, connect your ipod to your computer and right click on it in the device list and choose backup. iTunes will backup your ipod without syncing.
Transfer your purchases the same way, choosing "transfer purchases" this time.
When you connect your device for the first time, all media content will be erased. But you can restore your settings and app data from your manual backup afterwards.
Don't forget to set up at least one contact and event on your new computer to be able to merge calendars and contacts when you sync the ipod for the first time.

  • IPod Charging: computer vs. wall outlet

Today I was buying a 3rd Gen nano at a big box electronics store, and the guy there said I should really buy the AC wall charger (power brick, I think) because charging with my computer results in distorted pixillation. I asked him why this was and he said "The computer uses really dirty energy to charge. The wall outlet uses much better energy."
I've been using iPods for several years (I also have a iPod touch and a 5th Gen), and reading hundreds of articles and forums; this is the first I've heard of this. I also have not noticed any picture distortion in my iPods. Is there any difference - other than perhaps charging time - between charging with the computer and charging with the wall outlet?

Okay, that's funny! I have a 3rd gen Nano that I purchased right after they came out. Once or twice, I've charged it using an old firewire cable and AC charger from many iPods ago. Other than that, it's always been charged using my computer. Perhaps my computer has a special energy cleaning program but my Nano still performs flawlessly. I never would have thought I'd use it for video but I do and it works well.
Something niggles at the back of my brain about line conditioning. I can't remember very well but something about residential power having spikes and dips making it "dirty"? Haven't heard of any such problems with USB.

  • Iphone 4s wont charge with wall outlet only using computer usb

Iphone 4s wont charge using wall charger will only charge when connected to my laptop. tried restoring but has not worked. any suggestions or is my phone non fixable

Then make a backup, update the iOS, restore as new and test again.  If issue persists with known good chargers/cables/outlets, only on this one device, get the iPhone 4S serviced/replaced by Apple.
If within warranty/AppleCare+, it should be free unless there is some type of damage to device. ($199 USD + tax or $79 USD + tax if you have AppleCare+ and incidents left)
If outside or warranty/AppleCare+, then expect to pay $199 USD + tax.

  • Please help me my ipod wont work! D:

I need serious help D:! ok so i have succesfully synced music onto my ipod b4 but i wanted more songs so i was syncing music onto my ipod touch once again and once the sync was almost finished it said something about an error and then when i unplugged my ipod all of my songs that i had 1st put on my ipod were gone D:! after that my ipod stopped showing up on itunes on one of my computers so i switched to the other and it started doing the same thing. i came on here and was told it might be because itunes wasnt up to date so i updated itunes and my ipod but after the update, during the time when it was backing up software i think, another error popped up and said something about how the session had timed out, my internet connection is fine to so it wasnt that. after that another error popped up saying i needed to restore my ipod back to its factory settings and i said ok but another error always pops up saying the sesion timed out of something! now my ipod is like it was when i first got it! the screen shows the end of a usb cord pointed at the itunes sign! ive tried turning it off but it wont work! and when i try to hook it up to itunes on either off my computers it doesnt show up in itunes and a message from windows pops up and says "Found new hardware: Windows needs to install driver software for your apple mobile device (Recovery mode)" please help me i cant even do anything at all with my ipod right now! D:

The Internet provider might have too many people using the Internet than what the particular servers are setup for. Or your computer just needs to reset. Try restarting your computer. Also do a hard reset on the iPod. Hold the power button and wake button down until you see the apple logo come on. Let go. Then let the ipod finish bopting up . Then restore your iPod as a new iPod, NOT from the backup.

  • The first row of numbers on my ipod wont work...what maybe the problem?? Help!

the numbers 1,2,&3 wont work on my ipod...im lost!

Try the standard fixes to rule out a sftware problem:
    - Reset. Nothng is lost
    - Restore from backup
    - Restore to factory defaults/new iPod
If yu still have the problem that indicates a hardware problem and an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store is in order.

  • So I tried to downloaded IOS6 and now my ipod wont work.

  • IPod wont work above 10000 ft

I was watching the news today and heard a story about iPods not functioning at altitudes over 10000 feet. Being someone who lives in the mountians in colorado where I live and spend most of my time over 10000 ft feel that the warning should have been more readily available. What should I do if my ipod breaks and wont work? Will Apple cover the repairs? Does Microsoft work better at high altitudes?
    Please Help

While it is true that some Ipods will work well over 10,000 feet, Apple has set that up as one of their specs. There are several reasons that they might have done so. All the components that Apple uses to make up their ipod have operating limits. These may or may not be set up by Apple. For an example and just an example. The maker of the hard drive might have an operational spec of 10,000 feet (not sure what the real range is) and might have only tested to this altitude. They will then post that spec in their docs. Apple then has to decide if they will use that hd. It they do, in order to stay in their contract and warranty range of the hds' they will post that spec. In my experience as an electronic engineer is that in the electronic industry 10,000 ft is pretty much a generic altitude that manufactures give to products that are non aerospace specific.
So bottom line is that it might very well work to twice that altitude, but it has only been tested to and certified to 10,000 feet. I do know that millions and millions of Ipods are used on small planes all the time and that there are people that live in Co. USA that work and travel in altitudes much higer then 10,000 feet and they work well. I have seen a post from a guy in Co. that has a picture of a G.P.S. and I believe the altitude is in the mid 13,000 ft range and he states it works fine. Remember these are operating specs for optimum performance. Real ranges could be much different. I do know for an example that there is lcd display on the space shuttle that is rated to 400 miles above the earth (how they got that sheesh) but the same display is on a pda that you can buy in just about any store. The screen on that pda (the exact screen) has a service cieling of 10,000 feet. Cost of testing and certification. The manufacture only tested a handful of the screens to extreme altitudes because of the cost. Cost of the screen for the shuttle, 1500 dollars. Cost of entire pda 250dollars. Hope this helps.

      Windows XP Pro

Click on control panel/admin tools/computer management/disk management/right click on the iPod to re-assign the drive letter.
Choose something lower down the alphabet, say 'M' or something similar.
The iPod can be confused by any other storage devices assigned a similar drive letter even though they may not connected at the same time.

  • Updated windowsn, now Ipod wont work

I recently upgraded from Windows ME to Widows XP. I did this in order to be able to update my Ipod. My Ipod is relatively old, and ran under the MusicMatch Jukebox before. Now with an upgraded music match, and a new download of itunes with windows XP, my Ipod wont sync-up. It doesnt start in Itunes or musicmatch, and it keeps all music as music match. Also, I can't add new music. Any suggestions?

Get rid of Musicmatch. iTunes does not work well if it is used along with Musicmatch.

  • IPod wont work with iMac but works in Vista

I have an 80GB iPod Classic that works perfect on my computer running Windows Vista and iTunes 7. I have only ever used it with iTunes.
My iPod's format is FAT32 (Windows). And it's running software Version 1.1.2 and disk use is enabled.
When i try and plug it into an iMac (iMac G5) running OS X 10.3.9 it doesn't work. It doesn't come up as an external drive so I can't access it as an external disk and it fails to work in iTunes.
I have upgraded the Mac to the latest version of iTunes but this still doesn't solve the problem. I tunes gives me the following error "iTunes has detected an iPod that appears to be corrupted...". This is not the case, my iPod is not corrupted.
How can i get my iPod to work on the Mac?

If you buy an iPod, you are Apple's customer whether you use Windows or Mac OS X. Therefore, your statement
nice how they screw their own customers.
    makes zero sense.
If Apple products work in Windows for an extended period of time, this is because the most common and popular (by far) version of Windows is getting on 8 years old. And since XP is so prevalent, Apple has to support it, just like any other company that makes products that work with Windows. It is highly unlikely that Windows Vista will ever surpass XP in usage; Apple will no doubt continue to support XP with iTunes and iPods when XP is TEN years old.
For Mac OS X, Apple has been pushing the rate of development much faster. Therefore, Panther is already "old" technology, even if it was released after Windows XP. Panther is PowerPC-only and most active Macs (in the installed base) are now Intel-based, with 3 million new Intel Macs being added to the installed base every quarter. ALL Intel Macs use Tiger or Leopard. Most Power PC Mac users with supported hardware have at least upgraded to Tiger, if not Leopard. Therefore, only a small fraction of Mac users still use Panther day to day. SO... Tiger is obviously a good cutoff point for backward support, just as Windows XP is a good cutoff point on the Windows side. It's just common sense, not Apple trying to "screw customers."
It's not just Apple using this common sense. Many, if not most, third party software and hardware Mac products being released right now require Tiger or Leopard, just like with Apple.
As for your actual problem, I would try Restoring the iPod on the Windows side (assuming you have a copy of all the files on the PC). A Mac should be able to read FAT32 format, both in iTunes (using manual management) and as a hard drive using Finder. If you can get this to work, you can copy the iTunes media files onto the iPod as files (not through iTunes) and then transfer them to the Mac as files. Then load them into the Mac's iTunes library.
Continue using your Windows PC to sync the iPod. On the Mac side, use +manual management+ (do not sync).

  • My ipod wont work with this other computer

my computer that had my ipod music and information on it crshed so i went to go use my ipod on my moms computer. she also has an ipod but doesnt use it much so i uninstalled itunes the re-insatlled it under my information. but every time i plug it in i cant do anything with it but charge it.
??how do i update music onto my ipod through this computer??

You really didn't need to uninstall then reinstall iTunes to get your iPod to work, nor do you need to install the ipod software again.
What happens when you connect the iPod to iTunes? Is it recognized in the source list? Do you see any messages? Do you have your iPod set to transfer songs manually?
