IPod worked fine, sync'd fine, apps functioned BEFORE iTunes 8.2.1.6 update

I got a new iPod Touch in March...16gb 2G. I have Windows XP. Everything's been working fine up until the last two iTunes updates. The new 8 has yielded the worst problems.
I've noticed PRIOR to iTunes 8 that my downloaded apps stopped working. The factory apps still work however (mail, clock, safari, etc)
A Month or so ago, I started noticing when i plugged it into the computer it shows up as a camera in XP. Read that wasn't a big concern. It didn't start doing that in the beginning though, just recently.
Now that I have iTunes 8, the iPod will NOT sync to iTunes. When I plug it in, iTunes won't turn on automatically (its set up to) and once it is open, my iPod won't show up in my devices.
I've checked the following:
USB port (they all work fine)
The cable (ipod shows up as camera on My Computer so I know the cable works)
The iPod charges, just doesn't sync in iTunes
I've run the diagnostics in iTunes and it says no iPod is connected when it IS.
Cliffs:
ipod won't mount/sync in the new iTunes 8. Worked fine prior to update.
Now the downloaded apps I have won't work either.
It also wouldn't let me download the latest ipod update either.
How do I fix this issue? I've seen other similar issues posted but mine only resulted after updating iTunes. Now it won't sync to even update it.
I'm reluctant to reset the iPod in case it still won't be recognized in iTunes.
HELP!

tried suggested article and it worked for me....
http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1925
be sure to delete and restart as frequently as it suggests.
Be sure to go to C: application data, local data, program files, etc and control panel and erase any and every thing to do with iTunes, Apple and mobile devices....restart restart restart.
When i reinstalled itunes again, this time it installed differently....as if brand new. Once I plugged ipod back in, it mounted immediately and all my playlists and library data was still there despite "erasing/deleting" everything. Whatever, it works, so I'm happy.

ipod will not sync after mcafee vulnerability scan installs itunes update?

When I tried the first time it asked me if i wanted it to stop syncing and to restore. It gave the choices of yes and cancel, i didn't click either because the option box went away and it just stopped restoring on its own. I did the store again and now it is asking if i want to set up as a new ipod or to restore to Andrea's ipod. Should I set up as new?

  • How many different iPods can I sync with my single iMac user/iTunes account?

    Good Day to All,
Can anyone tell me how many different iPods & iPhones can I successfully consistently sync/integrate using my one "user account" in iTunes on my iMac? This ist situation:
I have always (and only) synced etc. my iPhone with my one iTunes UID which is under my ONE "User Account" on my  iMac. Recently, my elderly folks gave me 2 iPods they have never used. One is a little silver 4GB shuffle (the little guy with a built on "belt clip" & it verbally tells you what song and artist is playing. The other is also an iPod shuffle ( only 1GB), also has the metal "pinch to open; belt clip"; also no display, however it came with a little USB Dock and THIS ONE has all of the user controls on the face of it in a circular patter of course..
To have COMPLETE successful "interaction/integration/syncing" etc (with no issues/complications etc) with my iTunes currently and previously only used with my iPhone, do I have to create two new additional "User Login/accounts" on my iMac (one for each iPod) to have all three if my devices work perfectly fine, or can I just use my same iMac login (UID) & iTunes that I use with my iPhone and have no worries?
(ie: I created my girlfriend her own iMac login UID which she has always used for backing up/syncing etc her iPhone with HER iTunes library etc)
In short, does iTunes have the ability to have multiple iPods & my iPhone under my one existing iTunes account AND using the same single iMac login/UID I've always used with my iPhone?
Obviously, I know I could create an iMac login for my mom's, another for my dad's & create them both their individual iTunes accounts, but they really don't want to have to worry about dealing with all that. I'm teetering between just treating them as my iPods and mixing/adding their limited CD's into my library (again, if iTunes allows multiple iPods etc as explained above..
OR; my other thought would be (again, if one iTunes account can integrate the two iPods as seperate devices and to just create ONE iMac UID login and ONE iTunes account under my dad's name, and use that one account for both of their music, both of their iPods, importing their CD's into the same iTunes library, then when syncing etc. just doing selective transfers/sync's of the specific music for each iPod... Even then, will iTunes be able to differentiate the two as far as backups/restored etc? I think  answering my own question as I type due to the cloud... For completely individual cloud interaction/integration, I would def need to create each of them their own iTunes accounts, otherwise they will have all of each other's songs on their devices.. (ie: And my dad def doesn't want to worry about skipping over my mom's Journey or Aerosmith tunes to get to his Willie Nelson and vice versa for example.
(Sorry sooooo drawn out; thinking outloud) I guess it seems obvious that since all their digital music has to be on my iMac, I really should create them each their own iMac UID login as well as their own individual iTunes Acounts to insure cloud services work easily for restores/backups etc...
Thanks for stumbling thru my thought processes here (if I didn't lose ya long ago); I'm exhausted and throwing thoughts at the classroom board to see what sticks.... The best easiest way that is.. (The two aren't always the same obviously!)
Thank you all for your precious time and consideration and most if all; YOUR PATIENCE!! Any confirmation if the options and suggestions are greatly appreciated. You know, gotta take care of the folks & what is the simplest for them as just end users is the most important or they'll NEVER bother with them in the end...
    Respectfully appreciative,
    DB

You can use as many iPods with one iTunes library as you want.

*i've reset the pod a bunch of times*
Have you tried "restoring" your iPod? Restoring will erase the iPod's hard drive, reload the software and put it back to default settings. Once the restore is complete follow the on screen instructions to name the iPod and automatically sync your songs and videos onto the fresh installation. Press Done and the iPod will appear in iTunes and start to sync. If you want to sync using selected playlists uncheck the box beside the sync automatically instruction and press Done, it will default to manual mode and you can choose whatever setting you like: Restoring iPod to factory settings with iTunes 7

  • HT201263 I don't have a computer, but my iPod is saying it needs to be connected to iTunes to complete iOS 8 update.

I have the newest generation iPod and I've been trying to do the iOS 8 update. It downloaded and then when I hit install, it powered my iPod down and then said it needed to be connected to iTunes. Recently, my laptop crashed and I lost all of my music. So now I am without a laptop and I can't sync my iPod to any other computer because I'm afraid I'll lose the 4,000+ songs I've gotten over the years. The iPod won't even turn back on now, all I get is the USB connect to iTunes. I'm not sure where to go from here.

If one of these programs will not kick the iPod out of recovery mode then yo will have to connect to iTunes and restore and thus erase the iPod.

  • IPod Nano Music syncing is fine but...

I can't sync photos or contacts. From what I read on the manual online my photos must be in Photoshop. Is this correct or is there a way around this?
Contacts, I guess it's not working with Vista. I am using Windows Live for my emial and contacts. Any help?
    TIA

    Hi ChrystyVOG;
WARNING I just received word from the IBM CERT Team that the security for Microsoft Live has been breached. Their recommendation is to have nothing to do with it until Microsoft is able to redo the security. At the present time the hackers are to defeat the Microsoft Live security one third of the time.
